I would agree except for the last sentence. Making the audience buy Mbappé's jersey is part of his job, as advertisement is the n°1 reason why soccer is a money machine, and Mbappé is paid for his skills as well as the indirect benefits for the club in terms of image and business. The equivalent for a Twitch streamer would consist in making the audience purchase merchandises with the name of the streamer, or items advertised during the stream. However, tipping people who are so much more financially successful than the vast majority of their audience feels wrong to me, especially if the imbalance is not clear to the audience.

Today I finished Heaven's Vault and it got me thinking how awesome it would be to have a true "tomb raiding" game with more puzzles and figuring ancient stuff out instead of cinematic platforming and shootouts.
The game is all about deciphering glyphs and figuring out an ancient dead language and, while it may sound as exciting as collecting stamps, it's actually a great gameplay concept used to tell the story of the world and what happened to the ancient civilization. A truly masterpiece when it comes to using the videogames' medium strengths to do something unique that's impossible to do in films or books, rather than copying their story telling techniques. It has some faults, techically it is far for perfect, but it's an absolute must play as far as I'm concerned.

Reads like something I could have written.

like

I had made it to a major outpost in the Western expanse of Yara, a Caribbean island that’s a thinly veiled stand-in for Cuba, when I was confronted by a new set of systems and upgrade paths. Icons flickered on the UI calling me in half a dozen different directions. I needed to collect loot and crafting materials to upgrade the camp to make it easier to collect loot and crafting materials, I could also send lieutenants on errands to gather loot, I could spend time learning about cockfights, pet a cute wheel-chair bound dachshund and unlock a new quest line, or push the main story forward.

It felt like an exhausting chore list. I needed gasoline and metal to construct the buildings. Constructing these buildings would unlock new systems including a cantina where I could trade in fish and animal meat to gain temporary buffs. If I wanted to make the most of the fish meat, I would first need to use more gasoline and metal to construct the fishing hut to find the best spots. I closed the game.
Over the weekend, I attempted to go back a few times but I never made it past this camp and its list of activities. It’s not worse than past games, it’s very much the same. That’s the problem.

It was fun when I did the first time in Far Cry 3, which came out in 2012. It was a little better but the same when I did it in Far Cry Primal. It was entirely boring and unnecessary when I did it in Far Cry 5. The fact that Far Cry 6 thinks it can essentially deliver the exact same game a decade later is just depressing.

I mean in one hand everyone who manages to monetize well their time while not hurting anyone is perfectly normal. In other hand I can't say that I am not a bit disappointed to see that a lot of streamers earn in a month more than I earn in a year despite me having a job that has far more responsibility. Hell they earn more than jobs like firefighters or doctors even in the west.

But that is life I guess.

Among all the numerous, recent launches, there's always games that slip through the cracks.

This award winning Japanese indie game was released today on Steam, but not many people seem aware of it:

Ah man, always love ‘slip through the cracks’ games.. low profile games that look lovely. Thanks for bringing this to our attention :cat-heart-blob:

I just finished Industria, it took me around 4 hours as expected.

The game is quite intriguing, and the plot grabed my attention the whole time. After finishing I left the game wanting to know more about that world, to kow exactly what was happening.

Playing through it you can definitelly feel how influential the Half Life franchise was to the developers. Be it the opening, the city design and even some sound effects. One important aspect that helps to differentiate it from HL is the main character being voiced (I know Alyxe is voice on HL:A but you get what I meam) and imo the VO was good.

Even though I liked the game I can't say that it doesn't have issues. In the actual build I found some objects missing colision, the performance also feels a bit over the place but I won't comment much about it as my pc is a bit outdated.

If you want something to quench your thirsty for a new non VR HL game I recommend Industria, just keep in mind the current state of the game.

Tried Forgive Me Father, and hated it. Character have no mass, he slides. The enemies don't make noise, here is no weapon feedback, coupled with the art style I was more of the impression I was fragging paper creatures than playing an fps.

Heard about this in one of Onion Games' videos and it sounded pretty neat. Didn't know it came to Steam. Or I forgot... So thanks for highlighting it!

Edit: Here's the video, the creator of the game is in it and they talk about the game.

Edit 2: gotta say, don't love how every youtube URL auto-embeds. Sometimes you just want to leave a link.

I'm bored something hard. Not satisfied with my current combo of Octopath Traveler / Somnium Files. I think I will keep Somnium and drop Octopath, this shit makes zero effort to hide the fact that you will keep doing the same thing 70 hours in as in 30. Usually there is a plot to keep thing relatively interesting, but not really here.
But for the life of me I don't know what to play instead.

Funnily enough, since I love Onion Games' output (and I follow the works of everyone that worked at Love-de-Lic), I saw those exact same videos. ;)

The game was already in my wishlist, but it took a massive "bump" in interest (and I bought it at launch) exactly because of that showcase. (y)

He is stepping down as Gearbox President but staying on in the company. At least he won't leave his fetishes and company documents in restaurants anymore (or at least you would hope so).

Probably too soon to see if this has an effect on the EGS exclusivity going forward, as he always came across as the biggest proponent of it.

Speaking to GamesRadar+, brand director Stefan Marinescu said, "it's very important to understand how [Frontline is] different in many ways." In his words, the new Ghost Recon is not a complete departure from the battle royale genre but still boasts plenty of significant changes as "a tactical, action, massive PvP shooter" — that's what the team wants to call the game."We didn't want to come to the market with the same thing as everyone else," Marinescu told GamesRadar. "It was always about our vision of it. Within the team, we are gamers, and we are all shooter gamers. [...] We have this experience, and Frontline is our own very personal take on the genre, and what an authentic, massive military shooter would ideally be as per our vision. That is why we did not go for the same recipe."

It sounded very pleasant, yeah!

I'm sure you're also excited for Moon. Hope we get a date for that soon.

Will DQ finally get new music or will SE double down on homages of a war crimes denier for every next game :d

Well, I’m bad at dropping games. I continued Octopath.
It’s not bad, just mediocre, in that it doesn’t do anything terribly wrong, it’s just long and boring.

Maybe adding a third game, more actionney, to the plate will help.

Doubt SE will get rid of the music, too iconic.

At least the war crime denier and bigoted POS won’t see any cent now.

I hate music in DQ games, they all sound like fart trumpets. Listening to OST makes my ears bleed. My life expectancy decreases every hour spent with Dragon Quest. I really really hope SE modernizes music in DQ. The sound design in Final Fantasy games is always top tier, they should give DQ similar treatment.

ok who's the most odious living person in the Japanese gaming industry now

Nobody quite as suspect as Sugiyama springs to mind, thankfully. Though I'm sure there are plenty who share his views.
