I missed all the fun convo about P&P RPG ?
Oh, it was two pages of hair splitting :thinking-blob:

Team Pathfinder is D&D 3.5
also
Team Pathfinder 2 seem to differentiate itself enough to be its own game

Swenhir are you reading the first or second edition of Pathfinder ?
Second edition I believe, and I am not familiar enough with them to know which is anathema and which is the good one :p.

Also I am glad that "next-gen" upgrade is free for pc owners and previous owners. I am still not fond of this practice of making it look as if updates like these are a privilege when they were free as a matter of course before console makers decided there was an easy buck to make.

Oh it was pure curiosity, no anathema involved.
But for the record, yeah, while PF 1st ed is a rework of D&D 3.5, they seem to have done some interesting mechanical changes with 2nd ed. Like action points, ancestry before it was cool etc. Starfinder looks cool, too.

I wish I had a social life :tightly-closed-eyes:

Then you luckily have no need to care about, or contribute to, a discussion that is explicitly about finding appropriate labels and categories for things.
But can I still have an opinion, or should we all agree to one definition that some want to strictly apply to products sharing names/rule sets and that nobody should ever "disrespect" or...?

Because this "discussion" is more than a little anal.
Especially in a time where games, genres, and even medium are getting mixed together.

Now that I'm awake I can tell you it is indeed a 1st edition.

Since you seem to know this and potentially be a player/DM yourself, which one would you recommend getting to first? Or both?

Anal or simply specific ?

Eh, I'm unfortunately not that knowledgeable in reality. Hard to DM without players.
PF1 is a lot more to digest (crunchier) that D&D5. So for a beginner that's something to take into account. Now between PF1 and 2 I'm more uncertain (didn't read PF2 yet). It's a definite change with the Action Points system, and like I said they are more 2020 about things than D&D, dropped the 'race' and have gone with 'ancestry', playable Goblin because everybody love these little fuckers etc.

But if you can Stomach PF1, it has the advantage of having seen several years of supplements now, the choice is vast. PF2 is what, two years old ? It's more limited. Though at the pace Paizo publish books for it, it could be relative.

edit - now why the fuck did I capitalize Stomach ? I think my mind was thinking I was gonna write Starfinder :tightly-closed-eyes:

An empty reply wracking my soul with aching curiosity
Which one was it? Blink once for 1st edition, post a kitten for second.

Okay, saw your edit, I'll go with 1 then. If only because it kind of ties into my KM run and I like being able to understand the mechanics even more for maximum prejudice. Sword Saints are so fun, especially with wider critical ranges :p.

Control got a patch and transferring save games from one version to the other is now supposed to work for unlocking the DLC.
But if I understand this correctly you need to do some manual work.

Your Steam save game directory is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\xxxxxxxx\870780\remote
(if you installed Steam in the default location, of course)

You can find the other save game files in:
C:\Users\XXXXXX\AppData\Local\Remedy\Control\

If you want to transfer savegame-slot-01: you need to copy all files (except preferences_data) to the steam save game directory and rename them.

For example

global.chunk --> savegame-slot-01_global
hub.chunk --> savegame-slot-01_hub
maintenance.chunk --> savegame-slot-01_maintenance

You get the idea. delete the ".chunk" portion and add "savegame-slot-XX_" infront of the files.

As long as it works thats fine with me.
Ill give it a try whenever i can, thank you for the notice 👍

Either you care about the labels, and when you disagree with someone about whether something is X or Y, then you do care, or you don't care, as you just said. You can bring forth your view, and try to argue for it, if you wish. Perhaps we get a nice discussion out of it, or perhaps not.

Regarding Craftopia, just my opinion, I can't respect the idea of taking a number of ideas (and even animations) from other titles and make it into one game. It looks absurd and crazy but also reminds me that it is a giant copycat. Yes, inspirations exist and it is normal to learn from competitors, but directly copying and making it a selling point is unscrupulous.

Oh but I don't really want to share.
Don't want to end up "dismissive" of franchises, or enter whatever debate about how X is only this and that, but definitely not what is written on the box of that other product.

I'm not the one trying to stifle all discussion because my terms are obviously right and superior.

Someone asked the right questions on the thread link posted on that tweet. I hope they can give us an answer about that particular issue.
It seems it will follow the Borderlands 1 Goty then goty enhanced method but I don't recall having it DLCs so that's an issue on TW3.

Also, the game (goty edition) and the expansion are still on sale so that leaves the people affected by this free update with some margin depending on the answer given.

Also, since we were talking about RPGs, I saw a deal on "Shadows: Awakening" on Indie Gala ($5.99) , a game I wasn't aware of. Any thoughts about the game?

Reason: added Shadows:Awakening

PF1 being a D&D game is a pretty specific debate. Nothing anal, you just have to be interested in PnP to know about that.
I don't see how on earth we can go from a relatively nerdy debate about PnP RPG rulesets to if someone gives a shit or not about the labeling of 'Dragon Quest, Wasteland, Gothic and Dungeons&Dragons'.

Like I said, and maybe I missed some turns, but it went something like that...
  • PF1 is a DnD game ! / PF1 is its own thing !
  • What about 'insert some random spin off video game' ? (yeah, let's mix rulesets and brands)
  • I don't give a shit about labels, insert lots of video game franchises as example.

This honestly feel like a 'who are you talking to' moment.
Stiffle discussion about what ? :shrugblob:

It's fucking pricey, even on CDKeys btw. I'm out. Which hurt a little, given the campaign has been approved by @ISee
It's an okay and fun Marvel Story, but the further I go the more bugs and other problems I'm encountering. Feels like all the polish was front loaded.

I had a solo mission with Iron Man where Enemies spawned in larger waves and at faster rates than I was able to handle. Restarting the game fixed that, it was still a bit challenging but a far cry from the insane enemie waves I was getting before.

The newest one was a Black Widow solo Missions (the first). It's long, looks cool and introduced a lot of new enemies that kicked the shit out of me during the first encounter. But that's not a problem; performance shambled into pieces after 2/3 of the level and made the final boss fight and the though fights before it unplayable. FPS dropped from ~80 to 20 whenever the boss or other enemies did something.
I had to resolve to easy difficulty because I didn't want to loose one hour of progress, and even that was rather difficult and a bad experience.

I was also getting a "Device_Hung" error during one Hulk & Kamala mission. Always at the beginning of the last cutscene. After five tries I resolved the issue by spamming the space bar to skip the cutscene immediately, which is a shame. But I was frustrated for having to redo the same mission that many times.

I wasn't able to shoot as Ironman in another mission and a lot other smaller bugs.

Judging by Reddit, people on PS4 are also complaining about crashes and bad performance if the game ran for too long.

It is again a game that didn't launch in a good technical state. The first 6-7 hours running perfectly fine is even more of a warning shoot than anything else tbh. Because that's past any kind of refund period.

edit: Ah see, that's what I'm talking about. They fixed some of the bugs, though my "device_hung" error wasn't in a sewer level.

As long as the tone is respectful I think there's nothing wrong with being nerdy about it all. Perhaps it should be its own thread given the passion and energy involved :).

I just feel like we all have the same base of knowledge and what we like to call things varies from being a strict adherence to WotC's branding department to more intuitive and vague based on personal logic.

The one silver lining I can see is that most of them are fantastic games.

Except BG3 that I'm still not feeling :toucan:

In personal gaming news, does anyone here remember, Datura? I've owned it for close to three years and I've just now completed it. (My PS4 was downloading EVERYTHING)

Yeah. In 2012 and on the console, I bet this would've won weirdness of the year award on PSN. In 2020, coming from a long time PC gamer, especially one who has dabbled heavily in experimental, low to no budget horror games, its on par with a bunch of those. Not as scary as some, not even as graphically impressive as some (although impressive for the PS3) I'll remember it most for its control scheme. The Dual Shock 3's six axis function get a major workout on this one, you tilt, turn, jerk and all around abuse your wrists with this one.

Ok, I ended this post too soon. If I can sum up my feelings on Datura, I'd say that if I'd played in 2012, I would have been intrigued by the seemingly random settings of the various game play stages, (kind of like What Remains of Edith Finch and how it mixes wildly different settings) and the different games skills I needed to progress. Investigation, quick twitch, careful and precise input. As to the story, who the fuck knows what this was about? I figure that you croaked and you're in the afterlife, replaying your memories.

I wouldn't buy it nor spend time playing it, as Edith Finch does everything this game does and better (including horror) but its work at least watching the trailer on YT, just a time capsule kind of thing.

why are we comparing pricing on a 2013 game and a 2020 game again?
The point was not that a game released in 2020 should be cheaper than a game released in 2013. I was looking for a game with a campaign which would be worth it. I think GTA V shows an example of a meaty campaign. If I could be sure that Cyberpunk's campaign was good, I would have posted this:

Plus, I don't think years matter so much in the case of GTA V: the game was 59.99 € at launch. So, the exact same price.
It is a price-point which leads to very high expectations, at least when it comes to me. I am doubtful that Avengers meets those.

Grand Theft Auto V · AppID: 271590

It is just my preconception ("the campaign cannot be worth it"), and I am sure most people would disagree as the game is #1 top-seller on Steam.
Just like I cannot stand any of these super-hero movies, yet people must love them, based on the money earned by the producers of these movies.

Incredibly surprising passion. I didn't expect that when I opened Meta this morning :smiling-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I mean people rarely take the bait when I allude to PnP RPG, and my thread about a new RPG (Vaesen) got a respectable number of views but no reply some months ago.
I guess that's the power of a debate involving the two biggest PnP RPG on the market.

I was pretty stunned myself. At the same time, over here we're probably smack dab in the middle of that P&P-fond demographic so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise in retrospect :).

Do any of you fine people play P&P anything? I've been dabbling in D&D 5 lately and looking at online websites to find text-based games. Somehow, I do better that way.

Still playing an old D6 Star Wars RPG System from West End Games. It is now out of print for over twenty years, but has dozens of good systems and additional lore books.
Unfortunately not too often, maybe 5-6 times a year. But still with mostly the same people that I started playing P&P in another life. Involves Pizza, sugar drinks and grown men rolling dice for 12-16h to escape the silly situations that they managed to maneuver themselves into.

Could be worse, some men poker for money. We pilot a (now) heavily modified garbage freighter, always in dire need of more credits.

We didn't meet once in 2020 though, for obvious reasons. Which makes me sad.
