For my very rare watching session, I saw two Twilight Zone epispdes and one Harley Quinn.
I think Harley Quinn is a decent time waster, nothing mind blowing but it corrected the edgy violence of episode 1 and found a good middle ground.
Unfortunately, while The Last Flight episode for TTZ was a little slow but very decent (written by Matheson it’s no surprise), The Fever was almost physically difficult to watch. Imagine a premise simple enough that anyone can guess its development, and then add 25 minutes of nothing.

As an Indian, it's kind of my duty to share the gospel of Indian films.

Highly recommend watching the Indian fantasy epic Bahubali duology. If only for the scenes like this

It's on Netflix with subs.
I've seen a lot of Bollywood movies.

I've really enjoyed some, Dhoom, Baazigar, a couple of the Kajol and Shah Ruk Khan movies, others I'm not remembering just now.

People don't know how awesome a dance sequence can be, everything is memes to people sometimes.

(My GF got me into this stuff over the years)

Also, saw the new star wars, which damn son, they done fucked it up. Waste of cast, potential, a lot of actual good ideas, waste of some fine visuals.....

Now everyone else is busy building their own headcannons just to deal with where TROS left star wars lol. Join the party pal, been there since 2014.

Always happy to find a Bollywood appriciator.

People in India actually used to take those songs seriously back in the day, haha.

Highly recommend watching Anand (Or any movie by legendary director Hrishikesh Mukherjee). And Sholay if you want to see what western tropes in Indian movies look like.

Currently watching Season 3 of Ducktales (2017). So far three episodes have aired this season & it's proven to maintain the same level of quality that was available in both Season 1 & 2.

If anyone's legitimately interested in watching the show the first episode is available to watch for free on the official Disney Channel YouTube channel. Once you hear David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck, it's very hard going back to Alan Young's portrayal of the character in the original series.

Amitabh Bachchan as a young man, I've seen him in a few movies as the 'Dad'. I've heard of it but never seen it. Its looks like something.

I have to confess, I couldn't finish Ackbar, despite the cast....

Sholay, at the very least as a piece of cultural history, and surely more, looks super interesting. But as is often the case when your interests drive you a little further than the absolute mainstream, good luck finding it.
In France all I could find was a physical DVD.

Was the star wars clone wars show always this great? The last episode was amazing. Having watched rebels and all, this only makes me want to go back and try to watch the first 6 seasons.

My wife and I burned through Gravity Falls at the recommendation of our neighbour. It truly was like an animated Twin Peaks for tweens, and so damn good.

I find that the first 6 Series of Red Dwarf hold up quite well, the dynamic and banter among the main 4 characters always manages to put a smile on my face. Although Holly 1.0 is my fav. version of Holly, shame he was only in the first 2 series only.

I

will look into those, see if I can stream them here.

Personal Log - Day 2

Looks like I'm alone here. Am I the only surviving TV watcher on earth ? Would be ironic, as I watch a couple of things per year, but... wait, I think I heard a noise outside. Some strange bumps on the windows, I could only barely hear something like 'Strrrwrrsssssss' and 'Mavllllll'. Media Consumption sure look different these days. And creepy.

~

Yesterday I watched a surprising amount of stuff, for someone who doesn't watch TV or Movies anymore.

I continued...
...Harley Quinn s1 with s01e06 You're a Damn Good Cop, Jim Gordon

Great, pretty great show overall. They course corrected the over reliance on gore of ep 1 and found the right amount I think. Rare, but funny. Maybe still not a must see, but if you are looking for a fun 'mature' (translation 'immature') spandex cartoon, it's a very solid proposition.

...my Twilight Zone s1 rewatch with The Purple Testament (GREAT) and Elegy (Good premise, dogshit conclusion that drags the whole thing far away into BAD territory).

Then on a whim watched 'What we do in the shadows' (Movie)
Very unfunny, unpleasant to watch with family (mum: 'oh well, your tastes are still shit'). Grows on you, has heart. Still mostly unfun. With cringe. Then you continue to think about it in bed. And realize you liked the movie as a whole. Cast is good. Endearing. IDK what to think anymore.

And 'What we do in the shadow' (TV) first episode
Interesting to see what they could do with a budget consisting of more than the 10 bucks of the movie. It looks like a TV Show at least.
More traditional humor, more safe too, you can bet on the virgins being spared somehow. It has potential with the long form of a TV Show. Cast isn't bad, but I think I preferred the movie in this aspect.

Finally closed the night with Doctor Who 2005 s01e01, 'Rose'
Not that great of a pilot, it has evidently aged, the enemy is more than a little ridiculous, and the last few scenes are almost unbearable to watch, in a let's make the shots 3 times the length they should be, oh and let's go back to more or less the same ones multiple times. I swear they could have shaved off 10 minutes of runtime with a sane direction.
Sneak Peek of e02 looks depressing but shock full of Sci-Fi stuff, excited.

As you may have guessed, I tend to generally be a harsh critic :thinking-blob:

I use TVTime, it has a web version and iOS/Android apps. Many people also use Trakt.tv, which can be used on the web or through one of the many third party apps available.

If you want an anime-only service anichart plus anilist is the way to go right now I think. MyAnimeList is the good old reliable one, but their website is starting to feel a bit dated imo.

Edit: What's your letterboxd, btw?

I usually share stuff I watch on letterboxd but when watching stuff at home I just cant concentrate, I usually have to do something else at the same time, usually looking at stuff online, so all the movies Ive seen lately I cant even say what I thought about them or how good I thought they were haha, so havent been able to update my letterboxd.

Cant wait for cinemas to open again so I can enjoy movies fully again.

I added you, Li Kao. ;)

Do note the following about my letterboxd listings, to avoid any confusion:
I watched so many stuff growing up (thousands and thousands of films of every type, especially "genre" films), and my memory isn't what it used to be, so with more obscure stuff, I don't always remember if I previously watched the full film, or just pieces (or the trailer).
So, I had to decide on a criteria, to mark a film as watched for the first time, or re-watched, and since for me rewatching films on DVD or Blu-Ray that I never got to watch at the cinema, in their proper aspect ratio (not pan and scan, like on VHS or TV showings), felt like watching the film for the first time (since so many details, and image information, was lost), I decided on the following: unless I'm 100% sure I watched a film at the cinema, or that I watched it recently in their correct aspect ratio, I always mark the first time I register them on letterboxd as "first time watch".
So, don't be surprised if I mark most films, including certain very obvious ones, that everyone watched at least once in their life, as "first time watch". I surely watched it before, I probably just wasn't 100% sure I watched it at the cinema, or in their correct aspect ratio. :)
I also don't mark as watched films I watched before opening that letterboxd account, so what you see is what I've been watching since then.

Also, for the sake of my sanity, I don't rate films. Rating a film, and then comparing with the ratings I gave to other films, and trying to have coherent scoring, was taking years off my life.

You have to watch the TV series, it's gotten even better this season. There is also a newish TV show from New Zealand, might be hard to get, called Wellington Paranormal. It's a spinoff of the movie starring the two cops that were in it from Taika and Jermaine.

Speaking of TV Shows, I finished watching Better Call Saul s5, which confirmed the show as one of the best to ever air (much better than Breaking Bad in my view), and The Plot Against America, which was also very good (not Simon's best work, but his stuff goes from amazing to very very good anyway) and made me want to read the book that had been sitting in my library forever.

I think I'm going to start my rewatch of The Americans now.

Watched The Addams Family (2019), don't go out of your way to see it. It's not that bad, but they forgot to put a writer on it.
On a side note I was really underwhelmed to see that for a franchise still so well known, there apparently exist no complete comic strip edition. Pop culture preservation, what's it for motherfuckers.

Then I watched Knives Out (2019) and wow ! The hype was decidedly earned imho. I have nitpicks, I don't know about rewatch potential, this is too wordy, this is tiring, the famous Borges quote about the mystery's resolution applies, the actors are great, and I'm in love with Ana de Armas...

Note the line lashman :grimacing-face:

On a side note, my hobby these days seem to try to understand how to watch
  • Gangs of London (no French channel announced)
  • Won't you be my neighbor. Apparently, as the show never reached my shores, nobody gives a shit about it. Except me. My best guess would be Netflix + VPN, but paying a VPN just for one movie doesn't make much sense :thinking-blob:

I'm not sure where to post this but I found it an entirely too interesting watch not to share. Oners have become increasingly popular with both God of War and 1917, and now to some extent Extraction. The logistical problems have been discussed a lot but the storyboarding, how to fulfill the functions that editing normally does for these edit-less movies wasn't explained as much, which this does:

Finished watching that new show Devs a few days ago.

Overall a very good show and I would say close to perfect but I just wasn't a fan of that finale. Not to say it was bad but just not was I was expecting. Still tho all the episodes leading up to the ending were excellent. I would recommend the show to any Ex Machina and Annihilation fans. Garland did as well as you can possibly do transitioning to TV with this series and his style. Impressive AF. He should do more TV in the future for sure.

Soon I am gonna try and watch that show The Purge from last year. I know it didn't review well but still gonna give it a shot. The Purge films never reviewed well but were still kind of entertaining for me so I am interested to see how the TV attempt went.

Watched The Assistant. Not a bad movie. Very slow and silent to the point of feeling more like a Eastern European movie than an American one. Safe to say that Julia Garner is one of the best actresses on the scene at the moment, always excited to see movies or shows when she's in it.

Finished Gangs of London and it was great, for most part, some of the action were fantastic but the story overall didn't go in a good way. Sure I might be hyped for what comes next but it's essentially a totally different show than the one I was watching and building up in my head.

I saw people mention torture scenes ? Are these frequent or very torture porn ? Because they can shoot or maim half of London, but this is probably my line in the sand.

Hmh there are quite a bit of torture but usually I don't like too torture porn stuff and here it never bothered me. But the action can be very violent and brutal. But it is still made for TV.

This last arc of The Clone Wars is ridiculously good.

This is really making me fall for Star Wars all over again. The continuity with Episode III, the ominous tone of the beginning of Episode 11, the parting with the mandalorians and the execution of order 66. And that line drop at the end of the episode, establishing the first link I know of with Rogue One.

The Mandalorian is good Star Wars but this is the first story connected to the PT/OT that I really relished in watching in a long time

Started watching Upload, it's like a low budget comedy Black Mirror about virtual world as an after life but it's actually pretty good, touches on some real shit, like how would it be if after life was made by say a greedy game company.

Only four episodes in so far. I hope to they keep up the realness. Because there is a "murder mystery" but that's the least interesting part.
