Nice thread.

1) Blasphemous

A really neat Metroid-vania that isnt too difficult.

2) Dark Souls II
(09/02/2020)

Originally got halfway through this then dropped it for SOTFS, finally finished it today.

3) Metro Exodus
(23/02/2020)

Got the "bad" ending.

4) DOOM Eternal
(24/03/2020)

Great game, although near the end it got a bit too hectic for me.

5) Castle Of Illusion
(04/04/2020)

Pretty short and simple platformer.

6) Jettomero
(03/05/2020)

Neat little game about a robot trying to save humanity. Soundtrack and artstyle is really nice.

7) Dead Space Series
(10/07/2020)

Played through the whole series again now 3 is on STEAM. Probably my favourite horror series.

8) Darksiders Genesis
(23/07/2020)

A worthy addition to the series, let down by some bugs and control issues.

9) Toki
(24/07/2020)

Never actually finished this back in the day, so just put it on Easy and beat it in under 2 hours.

10) Halo 3 MCC
(02/08/2020)

Finished a Heroic playthrough, still my favourite in the series.
Finished my 10th game this year, although some of them are replays :V

51. Carrion - Short and sweet metroidvania-like. You play an escaped genetic creation trying to reach freedom. It can be difficult to work out what to do at times and when the monster grows very large fine control can be a bit unwieldy. Interesting mechanic where the monster has different abilities at different sizes requiring you to trim down or bulk up for various situations. Fights range from sneaky stealth to just random panic mashing! ★★★ 1/2

52. Iron Danger - Stunning looking and sounding RPG with a completely unique fight mechanic. You can freely wind time back and forward during fights to fine tune/edit your tactics. Die? Wind it back and put in a dodge or block. Controls aren't that great, selecting things is a little haphazard, clicks aren't always recognised, selected the right character finicky etc... Sadly it bombed hard and the story ends on a sequel hook unlikely ever to be realised. ★★★★ 1/2

Finished the Assassin's Creed Odyssey The Fate of Atlantis DLC.

It's pretty good overall, not overwhelmingly large either like the main game, but the ending is really unsatisfying.

53. Halo 3 (MCC) - Did play this many moons ago on 360 but barely remembered any of it. Missed the awesome cinematics and varied environments of Halo 2, seems like a step back. ★★★ 1/2

54. Kids - Is it a treatise on peer pressure? A demonstration of going against the flow? A suggestion to eat more fibre? A short somewhat interactive animation that will leave you asking questions. ★★★

#28 done. Finished Murder by Numbers.

It's nice but the nonogram to story ratio is a bit off for my tastes, at some point you just want to find out what happens next but there are several nonogram puzzles in the way. Soundtrack's a killer. 🎶 Not THE killer though. :smart-thinking-blob:

Call of Cthulhu (2018) - Lovely little atmospheric game. First person adventure game with some RPG elements for replayability or to just suit what style you want. The story is the usual amalgum of Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror so if you're familiar with Cosmic Horror or other games in the genre you know what you're looking at but it does it well. There are some gameplay segments that can be frustrating but they are short and do not reoccur, in fact i'd say the game itself is just the right length and doesn't outstay it's welcome which is refreshing these days. There's some polish needed on some animations and at times it does look a bit crappy but it makes up for it by being utterly gorgeous at other times. It's quite odd like that.

Bought it for £8 and really, really, really cannot complain at all.

55. Halo Reach (MCC) - I initially gave up on it at release after the first two boring levels but it gets much much better later on. Probably my 2nd favourite after 2. In the end it's basically the Halo-verses version of Rogue One to A New Hope with Cortana being the death star plans. ★★★★

56. Ever Forward
- From the My Time at Portia comes a 3d puzzle adventure sharing a similar aesthetic to Rime without the danger. Set in a dream world, the protagonist relives a calamitous event in a post-apocalyptic world. Most of the puzzles revolve around avoiding the gaze of floating cameras.

47The Citadel4A fast paced shooter with an anime aesthetic. While the game has a number of neat ideas and solid moment-to-moment gameplay, it also suffers a number of poorly thought gameplay mechanics, uninspired levels, and a big helping of jank.★★
48AMID EVILAn Hexen/Heretic inspired FPS. Not terrible, but weapons don't feel particularly great and each level has only a small number of different enemies. Ultimately it was not that exciting to play.★★★
49Seven Days: The Purple Envelope¾A short bookend to the true end of the visual novel Seven Days, released as free DLC. If you've already played and enjoyed Seven Days, then do not miss out on this chapter.★★★★
50Steins;Gate20½A great time-travel themed visual novel. Steins;Gate stands out with its unusual aesthetic, a great cast of characters, and a solid use of time-travel as a narrative device. It does have some unfortunate aspects, but overall ended up being a very positive experience.★★★★★
51Ultimate DOOMAt its core DOOM still holds up, which is impressive for a game that old. That said, I did play it using a modern engine.★★★★
52The Silver Case13½The book club visual novel of the month. An intriguing read, but also one that kept piling on twists long after it should have started wrapping up the story, to the point where the story felt like a mess at times.★★★

57. Wasteland 3 - Both full of content and strangely empty at the same time. Outside of the major story areas it feels like content was cut. Brilliant idea and mechanics matched to typical unity performance and plenty of choices with no obvious right answer. ★★★★ 1/2

58. Marvel's Avengers -
The campaign is actually really quite good and mechanics fun after you level up a bit. The endgame is a confusing mess and it's sluggish at best on a base PS4. Tony's head doesn't quite look right and Thor's has clearly been in an accident with a hammer. ★★★

#34, Horace. Kind of wish it was trying to be less like Meatboy. Also kind of reminds me of the worst parts of Evoland and the sequel where they have these different little gameplay sections, but they are never really that good and their only job is to be a reference to something.

#35, The Search. Up its own ass a bit. Feels like it's trying to say something but the only thing it's saying is what someone else already said, literally. So much of the writing is "I remember author/important person/philosopher/whatever said x" and it's kind of crap. It was free though so I guess there's that.

#36, Simulacra. Could do without the horror aspect of it, kind of don't gain anything from it. Would be a more interesting game if it focused even more on the "detective" stuff.

59. Strange Brigade - Much more fun that I thought it would be, looked great and ran great. Surrounded by a fun story-line, it something everyone should try. It's clearly been designed around 4-player play and the balancing at one player is very easy in a massive open world. ★★★★ 1/2

60. Halo 3: ODST - Pretty boring and unambitious. Feels like an expansion pack/DLC. ★★ 1/2

61. Vampyr - Fun RPG set after WW1 during the Spanish Flu epidemic. The main content is great but most of the side stuff is forgettable. It also punishes you heavily for not biting people and giving in to your thirst which might have seemed like a good idea in theory but in practice it's just annoying. Weirdly balanced at times as well. ★★★1/2

62. Watch Dogs 2 - Better in many ways to the first, better characters, a fantastic recreation of San Fransisco and surrounding areas, a brighter more inviting world yet still feels like every other ubisoft game. Dozens of tools, yet you only need a couple. ★★★

63. Kystopia Nova's Journey - If you've played the first, you'll feel right at home. Same sort of puzzles and gameplay. Does tell an interesting story about environmentalism and conservation versus industry and progress. ★★★1/2

64. Ratchet & Clank (PS4) - Had no idea there was one made for the PS4, great game, apparently it's a remake/re-imagining of very first game as a movie tie-in. Might play some more, I do have a sealed copy of A Crack in Time for PS3 but not sure where to start. If only Sony had some sort of back compatibility. ★★★★ 1/2

65. Transformers: War for Cybertron - Pretty good 3D shootfest. You play half the game as each faction though both sections barely differ, enemies are red or blue depending on your faction, no real enemy variation, characters are just carbon copies each side... Some fun spectacular moments and good variation in boss fights. ★★★ 1/2

66. Watch Dogs: Legion - Not sure if removing set characters and replacing them with generated ones really worked. The idea is fantastic but in the end the game gave you so many ways to play that aren't needed. It was so easy on normal I just played two characters, a sassy Indian woman who could summon cargo drones and an Italian spy with the worst accent of all time. The writing of the characters was also atrocious, not sure if any of the writers had even been to London. City building wise, the last two WDs are unparalleled yet they still struggle to fill them with interesting content. Collectables? Really? Probably the most enjoyable of the franchise but still generic. ★★★ 1/2

67. Close to the Sun - Really quite good but completely forgotten about. Beautiful design, vast areas as good as anything AAA games can produce. The moment you walk into the theatre, you realise they went all out here. Fun characters and a setting cribbing hard from Bioshock. You play the sister of one of the researchers on a boat responding to a call for help and once you arrive on this bastion of free thought and research you realise, predictably, it's all gone to hell in a hand basket. The controller could use a bit of work though, the contextual stuff was too precise making it hard to do things quickly. A little more leeway in where you were pointing could have helped especially in the chase scenes. ★★★★ 1/2

Updated for Murdered: Soul Suspect
I keep meaning to play this.

68. Assassin's Creed Valhalla - It's pretty much the same as the last two with a different skin. More ancillary boring crap but better story for the most part. Game gives you all these weapons and tools but is stupidly easy on normal, I was still using the same two axes and outfit I first got in Norway at the end of the game. The town you create is fun, hearkens back to ACIII. The story... well... it's both consequential and inconsequential at the same time. Outside of the animus important stuff happens but inside your influence is pretty minor and in no way do you feel the story is unique to you. ★★★★

69. Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction -
Good silly fun, travel the galaxy reducing enemies to their component parts. I did kinda zone out on the story after a while, it's more convoluted than the Matrix sequels. Can't spam Mr. Zurkon like in the PS4 remake, so you just spam the laser turret instead. The final boss was a decent challenge as well though I thought at times health pickups were very limited with the long long breaks between save points. ★★★ 1/2

Eh. The story probably works for some people a lot better.
It's also very much a mobile game that just happens to be also on PC. The little interaction there is very mobile like.

53Project WarlockGood old-school inspired shooter with a nice aesthetic. The difficulty curve is a bit weird, with the game being the most difficult in the beginning and then spiking a few times before flattening out as you've built up a large arsenal of weapon, weapon upgrades, and powers. Some of the later weapons/upgrades feel very overpowered.★★★★
54Doom II: Hell on Earth6DOOM II was honestly a bit of a disappointment after playing DOOM I. The new enemies and weapons were an improvement, but the level designs were a massive step down from DOOM I.★★★
55Koihime Musou30¼I picked this up after playing Eiyu Senki, since I wanted something similarly casual. That turned out to be a mistake. This game is worse than ES in every way imaginable and completely squanders what is actually an interesting premise. The gameplay in particular was such a massive wet fart that the it would have been a major improvement if you could just skip it outright, but sadly that is possible after clearing the game once. Sheer stubbornness is the only reason why I ever finished this game.
56Coffee TalkCoffee Talk is VA-11 Hall-A if it were written by a teetotaler, and one desperately trying to be socially aware. The first part just gave the game an odd feel, since the setting felt like a bar in all aspects but the beverages served. The second part is fine with me, but I came away from the game feeling like it dealt with those issues in a way too coy and shallow manner. At the end, I probably enjoyed the lofi music more than the story and (limited) gameplay.★★★
57Bokuten - Why I Became An Angel19¾Bokuten had a lot of things going for it, including good music, good art, a likable cast of characters, and an interesting premise/mystery, and it even impressed me by handling one particular topic with much more sensitivity than I expected from your typical eroge. But then it sorta went off the rails, with the last common-route chapter being a colossal 'what the fuck were the writers thinking!?'. Side routes were weak, with one includings its own WTF, and overall the game did not do a great job of delivering satisfying (tragic) endings. However, despite all that I still came of out Bokuten mostly having enjoyed my time with it, though I cannot really recommend it.★★★

70. Halo 4 - A return to more interesting story telling, heartbreaking at times. More interesting mechanics and level design and a whole new enemy and weapon type. Does do the whole defend an area a bit too much. ★★★★

71. Doom Eternal -
Not sure if I like that much. The changes from the 2016 version are quite stark, annoying jump/moving systems, weird level design and a very glass cannon protagonist. Great soundtrack but a nonsensical story. You never feel like Doom Guy, but his slightly useless understudy. ★★★
