Right now I am collecting.

Before I got banned on the other place a second time I bought from someone there all of TWD hardcovers.

Got my daughter Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Ironheart TPBs. Told her to put them back on MY bookshelf when she's done, lol.

I got all of Unknown Soldier TBP.

I bought all of Ms. Marvel hardcovers. Five Volumes.

I have not read a SINGLE PAGE OF ANYTHING! I'm aggressively buying off ebay and Amazon used.

CUrrently looking for Mirage TMNT comic collections and what I fear will be the most expensive: Neil Gaiman's Sandman, the complete collection.

I finally started House of X !
And while I'm not sold at all on the whole premise and new status quo, I can say with confidence that it felt really fucking good to read a comic book by talented people.
Ok, I'm unfair, a lot of books are good, but in a sea of trash not worth the paper it is printed on.

Case in point, I had just finished Rosenberg run on Uncanny X-Men. It was mainly mediocre (I'm trying to be nice here), elevated to glorious turd by Larroca. And books like this are a dime a dozen.

Hey MetaComics ! Get out of this torpor ! :anguished-face:
Things are happening. Nowhere near enough to go to the happening bunker, granted, but eh.

So we have a pretty great comic bundle overall, with great variety, some classic Dread, lots of modern 2000ad, something for everyone.

And today is the first day of DCFandome event (the other day being September 12th).
Lots of panels, focus is more movies / TV no one will watch for this first day. The other will hopefully be more comic books. One can hope.

If you want a schedule,
has a cool thread.

Organized my bookshelves.

This is my collection so far. I just purchased vol 1-10 of Y the Last Man.

There's currently an auction on eBay for Absolute Sandman vol 1-4. Those can run up to $100 each. I'm trying to mentally determine how much I'm willing to spend....

So yall know, I'm collecting right now.

Ironically, buying those hardcovers of TWD for about $150 from someone on Era was one of the last things I was able to do before getting perm'd x2.

I hate to say it but I think Gideon Falls in now high on my drop list. It has been 16 issues at such a glacial pace that it feels double.
It's clearly written for the trades, but even then, I fear it would still be light.

Readings of yesterday night...

The Umbrella Academy vol.1 : The Apocalypse Suite
Beautiful, and overall really good. Had a hard time with it, my reading OCD made me feel a lot of the dialogs were coming from out of nowhere. A little too much 'wait, what'.
A little sad to not have been blown away, but as I said, overall, great.

Chew vol.1 : Taster's Choice
Art is not so great in the very first issues, and I have a hard time with the subject and the darker elements of the series. But when it goes bonker, it's quite fun.
So, another great reading.

It was a good night :coffee-blob:

Next, maybe...
Follow up volumes for each series
Locke & Key vol.1

I have to see how it goes on the long run, but reading in TPB form was so much better than by 24 pages chunks... feels like an evidence that I had somehow forgotten, lost in the hype of monthly the release cycle.

Read The Boys #1-6
As expected, and I could stop my post here.

I like Robertson's art but it is inconsistent (or there are fill-in artists I didn't notice). And I'm glad to see I will be treated to Snejbjerg art down the line !
Ennis ? Well, as fucking expected. There are moments, and the overall thing is solidly written, but I think a little bit of subtlety would elevate his message. Ennis is basically his own worst enemy.

This is probably the best place to ask.

So does anyone here know if it's possible to have the comixology web viewer actually show contend in HD ? (I think it's not possible after some quick research, but you never know).

I just don't understand why you get lower quality on a PC than on a phone/tablet. And it's even funnier If the comic offers a DRM-Free backup (that it's clearly way higher quality than the web viewer).

I find it kinda sad that for some comics if you want to read them in a desktop a pirated version has higher resolution than the one they offer you (in case you can't download a backup).

Comixology support is shit-tiers, anyway.

A few weeks ago I noticed that the app crashed upon login on a recent Ipad Pro and an Ipad 4. The Ipad Pro had just been updated to ios 14 beta since it was the only way to correct a major bug in the OS for me.

Support : hey what's up ?
Me : Your shit don't log in. iOS 14 beta.
Support : We don't support beta OS.
Me : Ah well, it doesn't log in in whatever iOS version the ipad 4 was left on.
Support : Oh that's surprising.
...
Deafening silence since then.

I sorted myself out by linking my account to Amazon and logging with those credentials.
I left super impressed by Comixology, much respect.

In conclusion, I don't want to say that digital is shit and you may be better served buying stuff and downloading a backup from somewhere else. I don't want to say it.

I'll be honest if they offer a backup I download it (I'm too used to reading CBR/Z files from the times when finding comics here was harder) and If not well I'll find a way to get one.

Revealed content
I would rip (myself) a copy but the only way I know how to do it won't give me an HD copy :(
E: At least the backups they offer are truly HD.

I started Devilman Lady on a whim. Was kinda feeling nostalgic for Devilman.
...
It's problematic, to say the least :fearful-face:
Didn't expect horny as fuck Go Nagai, nor rapes, nor underage girls, and the link between poor immigrant people and devil beast is 'ohmygadwhat' at first.

Apart from this big caveat, the other big meh was the long science sequence in ch.2, felt very forced, very hey, let's expose the plot.

Other than that, keeping in mind that it's certainly not a manga for the 2020 sensibilities, it was not bad. A little too samey compared to the original, and the link with it is bizarre at first glance, but ok, it's Devilman all right.
I don't hate it. I kinda like it.

A little worried at the prospect of reading 65 chapters at this omega smut level though.

Ack, guess I'm avoiding Devilman Lady

OG Devilman manga holds up due to its themes for the most part IMO

At any rate, y'all should check out comics by Saladin Ahmed-

I plan on checking out his Ms. Marvel and Spiderman (Miles) runs.

Also Sonic #32 had some good moments

Catching up to Immortal Hulk

May give the series a re-read just for the fun of it down the line :p Would be nice to have a separate series that is just horror stories featuring the Hulk, even as a mini or maxi series.

I resubbed to Viz for a month rto catch up on a bunch of stuff. So here goes.

Twin Star Exorcists
So the premise of this was basically that the lead girl and boy have to get married and their child will be the actual chosen one to defeat evil and all that.
We've been through multiple timeskips by now, and while I got frustrated at certain parts of the story because the male lead got increasingly more spotlight (and unfortunately it feels like it hasn't been equalized again), they actually got married in the latest few chapters.
What devilry is this in my action shonen? A main couple that gets married and the story still continues!??? Madness. Huge props for that.

Mission: Yozakura Family
When this started I was really into it and wanted it to be very successful because it got a ton of potential. I kinda stopped at the early 20ies because unfortunately I felt like it wasn't realising its potential. I gave it another chance after hearing good things and indeed the author did really turn it around (funnily enough with the arc right after stopped, lol) since an actually intriguing main plot got finally introduced and slowly unraveled. It's really really good right now.
It's spy action/comedy btw.

Also started reading Mashle: Magic and Muscles, another one of the semi-recent new series in Jump.
I'm loving it. It has great visual gags and comedic timing, but also hype action and serious moments with creative powers. Just a lot of fun right now.

The 2019/2020 Suicide Squad series by Tom Taylor is great. Even if you hadn't read any SS series or know little of it, do give it a read through comixology, since the TPB release is scheduled for 2021 despite the last issue already being released =_=

Flash Annual #3 has a story featuring them if you want more and it's quite nice on its own.

Yumekui Merry (lit. Dream Eater Merry) finished recently and I finished it too! (Did a reread from the beginning since it was ages ago I last read it do the the translation being in limbo for a good time).
It holds a bit of a special place for me, since I probably started reading it like 10 years ago and I really like it as well.

So, what is it about?
Yumeji has the power to forecast a person's dream based on the multicolored auras that surround them when he looks through his fingers. His skills are unpolished, but when he sees a black aura, he knows for certain what that person will see that night, a nightmare. Yumeji has been having nightmares himself recently, where he is chased endlessly by an army of cats until he awakens. But when a strange girl named Merry literally falls into his life, his experience with dreams becomes bizarre and dangerous when he vows to help Merry return to the world of dreams from whence she came.
It's running in a Seinen magazine, but essentially it's an "urban fantasy" action shonen, where a "regular" human gets into contact with a supernatural side of the world that is not visible to normal folks. And it's exectuted extremely well and hits a lot of tropes I personally really enjoy.
It has a large cast of good characters, a story that is planned from the beginning (seriously, there's tons of setup and foreshadowing for big twists and small things alike throughout from the very beginning).
And I love the art and creativity that goes into it.

(I have tons more saved, but I leave it at this :grimacing-face: )

It lands the ending as well! (a part of the final arc drags a bit though).

It also has the best cat.

A rough scanlation is out for One Piece's 1000th chapter. You could find it on reddit's one piece subreddit.

They teased us with the whole "Luffy said the same thing as Roger" thing again :p

Caught up to one Piece but still waiting for 1,000 to be made available :p

Not much shocking stuff in these recent chapters, but hopefully the battle against Kaido ends by summer time :p

Following him that leaves the following characters and antagonists to clear up
Blackbeard
Sabo
Dragon
Im
Giants' Island
Then Laugh Tale

Could still be a few years left to wrap all that up but hey least we getting there!

Also Kaido's devil fruit is the Fish-Fish fruit....makes sense if one knows about eastern mythlogy dragons.

Yesterday I read...
Fallen Angels (2019) #2
Marvel Comics (2019) #1001
King Thor (2019) #2

Ok, I wasn't in the best of moods, but I'm generally not that hard to please. So it's no small feat that the first two have convinced me I need to prune my catch up list and reevaluate what I do with my entertainment life.
Abysmal.

Keeping things that way would mean it's not a hobby but work. It would be self-harm too.

I'm thinking of skipping it. I was very much interested because Al Ewing Hulk but on the other hand there is Al Ewing Valkyrie, which while decent is nowhere near giving me as much pleasure as the former.

Sorry for the late reply! Rather hard to follow @s on here sometimes ^^;

I don't follow comics much, and do need to catch up on Hulk and Marauders on Marvel side for one thing ^^;
I generally read what peeps on the discord channels I am in are reading and grab those, so for that series I cannot comment I'm afraid

For sci fi though, do check out Green Lantern: Far Sector. Not TPB yet but it's really good I hear. Saladin Ahmed's recent work is good I hear, so try to give those a read if you could.

Was recommended this series by a friend and divided straight in and read it. I'd heard of the series but this would be the first one I read of it, and I am quite liking it.

Caught up with Undead Unluck again, just in time for the current arc to end.
Wow. That was an amazing end to a fantastic art. Super hype and emotional as fuck at the same time, masterfully done.

It's absolutely baffling how this started out as "ugh, the male MC runs around naked and sexually harasses the female MC, was that really necessary" to "it's really good and the romance is very wholesome" in the span of a few chapters, and it's only been an upwards trend since.
Absolutely bizarre trajectory I have no explanation for.
But it's now one of my favorites that are currently running in Jump.

Great cast.

For starts, if you are OK with 80s comics, there is nothing wrong with starting out with the original 80s run of TMNT by Eastman and Laird (Mirage comics). The big collected editions collect just about all the issues they did for the series, along with guest writers and artists.
It's been a long time since I read them myself but they still hold up IMO. tHERE is a nice grunge aspect to the art and stories. You may notice there is a side series titled 'Tales of the TMNT', these are additional side stories told alongside wahtever major plot they had at the time.

The original 80s series would be refered to as 'Volume 1', or lets say 'Series 1', Series 2 continued after it but it lasted a few dozen issues.
The 3rd series...kinda suffered from 90s comic syndrome but I want to re-read it someday. 4th series was left incomplete I think as few years later, IDW picks up the TMNT license and started a new series.

The IDW series is of course more modern and there is nothing wrong with jumping into this instead, esp. as IDW loves releasing big collected editions of their series ;P The IDW series is slow though, so if you can get a lot of the big collections for a good price, it'd be much better than getting TPBs.

Transformers series is another matter all together but one thing I will say is that, one again, if you are OK with 80s comics, check out the IDW classics collections that collect much of the Marvel US and UK comics. IMO they still hold up for the most part.
Shit it made me care for this guy and he's part of a curious gimmick they were trying for the toyline (Octopunch)

During the 90s and early 2000s, the TF comic license was picked up by Dreamwave but it's been a long time since I read them and I think those are in limbo sadly :X

The IDW Transformers series is a different matter but I'll say that a certain IDW TF series from the 2010s is among my top 5 comic series of all time. More on that in a future post, but for now I've provided some tips on where to start.
