Dicey Dungeons sold really well.

…I still don’t really know how to talk about all this. That’s actually why this blog post is so late. I kept trying to write it and getting nowhere.
I tried to keep my expectations low – I’m really proud of this game, but there have been so many indiepocalypse stories in the last few years that I was nervous that it all might go wrong. And I, uh, took some risks. I blew a huge chunk of my Super Hexagon and VVVVVV savings to make this. I was quietly hoping it would do ok, but really I was just hoping that at the very least it wouldn’t end up being a total disaster.
What actually ended up happening is that it shot right past those quiet hopes, and massively exceeded my wildest ones – it’s been by far the biggest and most successful launch of my career. Within just its first month, Dicey Dungeons outsold the lifetime sales of my previous two games on Steam combined.
Terry deserves it all and more. VVVVVV and Super Hexagon are phenomenal btw please play them

Downunder.
I managed to somewhat mitigate the stuttering issues I've been experiencing in Resonance of Fate. Basically frame times will jump all over the place until I set Windows Power Profile to high-performance. Secondly, increasing the swap file size as suggested by some folks in the Steam Community forum helps, but not by much. Stutters during combat still happen, and also during exploration as well, although it's not as bad when I set it to Balanced Power Profile.

I'm not sure how Tri-Ace optimised the game, but the model viewer in the Bestiary also has stutters when rotating the model. Something tells me it's related to the Hi-Res texture pack, but the 11GB VRAM on a 1080Ti should be more than enough. It's a fun game and it's definitely prettier than I remembered in PS3, but pulling these acrobatic gun moves didn't look so good when the game stutters all the time.

not just hinted , they straight out said whole trilogy will get Definitive editions ... and given the last behind the scenes video for AoE4 . DE for AoE3 is well on the way.
And they even sadi they are not sure about what to do with AoM
Ah, it was AoM they werent sure about, well that's good. I stand corrected. Hopefully all of them, and maybe Rise of Nations too while they're redoing old Microsoft RTS

Since The Outer Worlds keep crashing I decided to look into other games available through game pass. I installed Forza Horizon 4 and I'm impressed by how well this game runs on my pc while looking good.

I hope MS releases it on Steam someday.

Oh, the good old times of Soundblaster configuration on your IBM PC compatible system.
Today's "tinkering" is easy compared to DOS and Windows 95 driver installations and game configuration.

fucking sound blaster!

Edit: when exactly did "IBM compatible PC" die out as a phrase/sticker?
With Intel's "Intel inside" and Microsoft pushing Windows95 so heavily over DOS
Hey, don't hate on sound blaster! I still have a creative SoundBlaster Z in this pc right now

What are you even playing?

Going back and forth, between Disco Elysium, Trails 3rd, and Gears 5 (on Gamepass) right now. Oh, and Steins; Gate and a bit of Iconoclasts too, but mostly the first three.
Ah, meant to quote Tizoc and his quicktime comment - but what are your thoughts on Disco and Gears? I've had to stop playing Gears altogether, which is sad, as it was quite fun.

If I'm reusing the SSD with W10 on it in my new build, do I reinstall Windows now or after I've done my build and have it booted into windows?

Probably a silly question, but yeah

I'm assuming on new build with the same Windows I have now --> Boot into Windows, then reinstall Windows 10? And obviously activate it etc

After the build is the safest bet. Before that you can create a usb windows 10 install from your existing windows 10 using this tool: Download Windows 10 (Create Windows 10 installation media)

And use that USB to install a fresh win 10 on your new build.

Note if you're changing motherboard and your current WIn 10 key is a OEM key you will probably need to buy a new Win 10 key.

Yeah, it says it's tied to my MS account but I have a feeling I'll need to re-purchase Windows.

Sorting the USB windows out now. Just to be clear, I can boot into windows from my SSD like normal after the build and then use the USB to reinstall Windows 10 on that SSD?

Are you just upgrading the cpu/gpu? or it's an entirely new build? like from intel to amd? If it's the latter create the usb installation now, and after the new build, boot from usb to install a fresh win 10, formating your ssd. It's the safest way to avoid headaches with compatibility.

Or you can create the usb installation now, and try booting from your old windows installation ssd on your new build and see if it still works. either way, have that win 10 usb ready before the build.

entirely new build other than my PSU, SSDS and GPU

Going from a 6600k to a ryzen 3700x

I'll make sure to boot from the USB. Sorting that now, its about 70% done.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it

A fresh install is the best way then. Don't forget to backup your files, And your game saves as well. GameSave Manager is a pretty good tool.

I’ve had my Windows license on 3 cpus and I think I’ve never had reactivated my copy manually lmao
I worked 7 years Microsoft Support. even with Horror stories about hardware locks, Microsoft had the most laid back attitude to (non-business) activation and (non-business) Piracy issues in all of my experiences as a customer service rep.
MS didn't care if you previously used pirated software, it only cared that you use a correct license when you contact them and if you didn't have one, you could buy them directly from MS, sometimes even at a discount. You got 1 License working on several PC's? don't care, if you got it working, congratulations, the automatic Key lock-and-destroy (license unusable) happened at such a high number, that a normal consumer would never get to that point. Microsoft cared about people using Windows. Some people trying to circumvent the activation is of no concern.

Fun Fact: the last FCKGW key from a customer who insisted that his copy was legal, I got in 2016. At that point, XP wasn't even supported anymore. Us old guards could still recite the key from memory :D

Ah, meant to quote Tizoc and his quicktime comment - but what are your thoughts on Disco and Gears? I've had to stop playing Gears altogether, which is sad, as it was quite fun.
Disco is absolute fire. I'm almost afraid to play it, because the sheer number of choices and the degree of freedom is insane.

I like Gears 5. It takes the same gameplay from Gears 4, but there's less annoying bits, I feel. The "open world" aspect, is mostly just that you have a big hub area, which you navigate in a skiff (a sort of land based boat, it looks fairly cool) and you can pick locations, each of which is a linear mission in its own right. It works well, and I really like Kait as a character, the banters are nice in this one.
The only really annoying thing so far was the bulletspongy boss of Act 2, but once you figure out what you are not allowed to do, it becomes a bit easier. Generally speaking, I feel Gears should give up on the whole "boss fight" thing. It's an antiquated concept that doesn't fit well into their design. I generally feel the world would be a better place if Western devs would leave boss fights to Japanese developers.

46k concurrent for Fallen Order.

Pretty decent all things considered. Would have been more I think if steam version was put on preorder in the summer and not 2 weeks ago.

Its still nowhere near as impressive as Sekiro doing 128k or 129k for Dark Souls 3 tho. Then again the steam version of those games was the only way to play it while Fallen Order is also available on EGS, Origin and Premiere. EA definitely made the right move by putting it on all possible platforms. Imagine if this was Origin only it would done weak #s. I am surprised they didn't put the new Need for Speed on everywhere else as well. Seems like EA always sends that franchise out to die.

And as expected Schreier said that an overhaul is coming for Anthem. Bring on the F2P relaunch for Steam next year kthnxs :sneaky:

If for story then i would say most likely yes
The story and setting seem.interesting
Visually however it is a product of its time, same goes for gameplay mechanics
Thankfully the game hs cheat codes for a small exp boost and cheat engine can help level up hella fast in order to be able to clear the game faster among other things.

I'd be at 13 years old if I hadn't lost access my old Steam account and had to make a 'new' one at some point. (not something I cared about a lot at the time if you remember those days :p)

I'm only at 10 years old now.

So the more I play the Jedi the more I sort of feel bad for it. Is it a "good" game? Oh yes very much so. Does it have issues? It does and some of the issues might just have to do with the situation of EA/Respawn and most importantly of Disney. Does Disney really care about Star Wars game? I have my doubts. Does Disney care about Marvel games I have my doubts.

Now let's look at Star Wars vs Marvel. Both of these have been around for a very long time but it was not until 2012 or so that Disney bought both Star Wars and Marvel. Prior to Disney buying both of those IPs multiple companies (including Lucasarts) were making Star Wars game, the same can be said for Marvel stuff. But after Disney purchased Star Wars stuff changed. With Star Wars they gave EA the 10 year exclusive license (with some exceptions it would seem since the Lego Star Wars games still do exist and those are done through WB who owns TT, and well LEGO Star Wars prints money so Disney would not get rid of that) so since 2013 or so the only Star Wars games that we have gotten are basically the Battlefront games and even then they were not that great. Then you look at Marvel those also had games made by different companies prior to the purchase but the difference is that that series didn't get an exclusivity deal made. Is that because there is more of a "rich history" with Star Wars game compared to Marvel games? The only Marvel games that I recall that people have really liked are the NES X-Men game, Marvel VS Capcom games, and Spider-Man 2 game.

So in more recent year EA has Star Wars and both DICE and Respawn have made games with the IP, others were also set to make games as well but those games were cancelled/studios shutdown.

Now if we look at Marvel you have different devs making games with those IPs, there was the Insomniac Spider-Man game, the SE Avengers game, Marvel VS Capcom Infinite, and the KT Avengers Musou game thing. This is course is not even looking at mobile games.

Of the EA games, it seems that a lot of money was poured into the Battlefront games and that they even got a lot of PR, but then you look at the Jedi game and ya they didn't really seem to do that with the game and you can tell from playing the game as well.

Then you look at Marvel stuff, a lot of money and time was poured into Spider-Man (hell I think there were even talks of Sony maybe getting the exclusive rights to Marvel games which I hope does not happen). The KT game did get some coverage and stuff but it kind of came and went. And of course the SE Avengers game, so far that game does not look that good and it seems like SE is giving better treatment to that came compared to what EA did with Jedi. EA does not like Respawn.

I'm not sure if the Avengers game will be getting this or if the Spider-man game got this but I know for a fact that Battlefront 2 did get coverage by ABC here in the US. By which I mean they did an Interview with the person from the campaign of the game and asked her questions about the game. Doing stuff like that is not something that most games do.

So with all of that said it makes sense why expectations for Jedi were pretty low, this meant that the bar that Jedi had to pass in order to be liked by people was not that high seeing how we have gone years with out a "good" Star Wars game that people really liked.

The Jedi game does feel like a quality game but I'm sure that those that have played have felt that the game had limitations and that it's not nearly as poslish compared to say if it was the Insomniac Spider-Man game. The animations and stuff feel off in the game (you do get use to them later) oh and I've come across a number of issues with in the game, example include rag dolls, jumping and just physics in general.

This feels like a AA game at best. Its no where near the quality of a AAA game (and that includes AAA games that have game breaking bugs). While a AAA game may have game breaking bugs there are certain things that make them feel like a AAA game.

I wonder how much they could have improved the game had they given it a much larger budget and faith behind the game. Because its' limits do stick out at times. The way you Interact with some objects just feels off, where you can't even "touch" certain things and they feel like they have an invisible force field around them. Take the ship as an example try to climb it, you can't and the issue is the way it feels when you try to "touch" it.

I'm done complaining for now
---

----

The SE game will likely get more cover than the Jedi game ever did. The Jedi game will likely end up selling more copies than Avengers and have a much higher user and critic review score.

And Jedi may end up being the only EA game on EGS.

i swear, my download speeds on the xbox app are so damn slow. I feel like I used to get way better speeds via the regular windows store.

edit: 2 hours to download 40gb. That's a good 15-20 minutes on Steam for me.

edit 2: I canceled it. Gonna try the Windows Store. After canceling, I got a popup asking how the experience was. I clicked it, ready to give them my thoughts...

DF never did do a video on Code Vein did they?

I just remembered that I did get the season pass for that game.

Also it seems that Bandai did a survey asking people if they would like another one.

As far as "Anime games" go it felt more impressive compared to some of the other ones that Bandai has released this year. The other ones have not sold that well. It was a decent souls like game with a cool Character Creation the combat could be cool but stuff like the enemy designs were just bland

It finally happened, I'm free from the curse! Almost 1 year later, after clearing the whole map and finishing all quests (and spending shitload of hours in photomode), I'm done with Assassin's Creed Odyssey! I haven't touched DLCs, but lol nope, not today Satan! Well, it was a good game after all, but it took way too long to finish it. Going to gather the thoughts and make a proper review on it, but considering how long I was playing it I'll probably forget some details lol. Also, not going to touch new AC games for next few years, I had more than enough of that gameplay loop.

Just finished Fallen Order. 7/10.

The first hour was the best. The story was better than I thought. The things dragging the game down was some annoyances with the combat/moveement, the loot/chests is purely cosmetic, so never really cared about it, some of the jedi powers should have been given to Cal much earlier on, lack of alien variety.

I did explore every planet in the end with about 85% exploration complete with the exception of Bogano with 60/70 (don't remember exactly).

Whish I could drive vehicles in the game.

Im not gonna put this one in the spoiler though: I love BD-1 (the droid).

So for about 15$ I have played/finished Fallen Order Deluxe, NFS Heat Deluxe, NFS Payback Deluxe, Sea of Solitude, tried out Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighborville, FIFA 20 and BFV.

Not bad.

Also it seems like Little Misfortune is coming on Premier 21st nov.

But Fate of Atlantis is so good though! The DLC areas are even prettier than the main game so you can easily spend another dozen hours in photomode.

You can safely skip Legacy of the First Blade though. It doesn't bring anything new to the table and it's just more of the same.

Left 4 Dead 2 is 10 years old today. :cat-heart-blob:

You got Half Life 2 on release? Did it live up to the hype?
Yes, easily, the opening was just as impressive as the one in HL1 but had a different feel, same goes for the rest of the game. Wasn't just a rehash but everything felt fresh and the world so much bigger, story got expanded, gravity gun. Still love 1 dearly and would put it above 2 if forced to make a choice but it was 2004's GOTY and so much better than Doom 3, the other big sequel, though I've come to appreciate D3 after later replays.
