Another indie title previously exclusive to the Nintendo Switch is now coming to Steam this month. This one is really cool as it's a mix between contra and Shadow of the colossus.

1 year later.

Daikatana is also what happens if you give developers too much money and time to make games, they fuck it up.
AKA the Star Citizen Story™! 😀

I remember when Daikatana released, just a couple of weeks after, it was available at my local game store in big box format for only about ~€7... Back then, that NEVER happened.

Hey, that's not totally fair.
Daikatana "only" had 5 years of production, and produced a product to the stores.

The jury's still out if Star Citizen will ever reach that state. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

As someone who pre-ordered Star Citizen as soon as the website was up, and has a "golden ticket" because I subscribed to the mailing list before the game was announced, I really should start thinking about selling my account one of these days, since apparently people are paying good money for some of the items I have.

I hate Origin, it's the second worst client Ive ever used (the worst is Xbox beta app). Worse than Steam, UPlay, GOG Galaxy, Oculus and EGS.

It makes GOG Galaxy super slow to start up and is overall a very laggy and sluggish client to use.

The only good thing about it is that I rarely start it up. Looking forward to playing EA games on Steam instead.

Ohhhhh ffs ! After years of delaying a real playthrough of XCOM 1 I started it on a whim. Several hours into it I discover that I had Enemy Within unchecked.
Can you install and start the xpac during a walkthrough or do I have to restart ?

Edit - Some steam review say that it isn't compatible with windows 10 ? What ? :dizzy-face:

Well, on the other hand Star Citizen is pretty much unparalleled in what it does technically and artistically. Game engines are still trying to figure out how to do planets, let alone all the other crazy stuff they pulled off. The one area where they are stumbling is gameplay and it worries me increasingly though.

I have no idea what their designers are doing, how much of it is due to a missing tech foundation and the establishment of backend logic (cache, persistence, server meshing, all behind what you can and cannot do in gameplay) and how much is them being less than good designers. The way flight has been going, I feared they aren't taking gameplay seriously and I thought they might be in for a harsh reality check.

Fortunately I got echoes that they are starting to wake up to the reality that yes, people play the game right now and it's starting to be a bad look for flight not to be looked at seriously in a space sim.

Edit : addendum in the interest of fairness : flight tuning, as in how the underlying simulation is used. Even despite the 3.5 revamp that simplified it a lot, it's still pretty realistic under the hood. Problem is that flight tuning never seemed to be a priority nor given a lengthy period of time to iterate on along with players. The flight team didn't seem to have a clear destination in mind.

FunktionJCB at least now we know how long steam certification takes

:toucan:
Yeah, that bullshit. :)

He posted another update a few days ago, where he said the PC release date, while once again thanking Apple, and posting this as to why the Steam version was coming later than the Apple Arcade version:

«Regarding those concerned that Apple launched two weeks before Steam, all I can say here is I am an idiot. We could have launched Steam the day the Apple version launched, and I just wasn't thinking. My apologies to all of you! »

So yeah, no details, no nothing.
And, of course, no "since we could have launched it already, the game is now available". Nope, still have to wait until the end of the month.
This guy is awesome with updates.

So I always thought that Deep Silver game is called Chorvs, with a "V", as it has in the logo, but Steam page is "Chorus".

signs exclusivity with Apple

thinks said exclusivity means he can't release on Steam

makes up cock and bull story about certification to justify later Steam release

realises, like with the dozens of other Apple Arcade exclusives, signing with Apple only makes you exclusive on mobile and macOS

scrambles to release Steam version after infuriating backers

That about sum it up? At least the developer acknowledges they're an idiot.

The Commander '85 kickstarter campaign ends in a few hours.
Just though I would give a heads-up, since tiers are relatively cheap, so if the game is something you are interest in, backing it will score you a discount on the final game (which is launching soon-ish).
Say what you will about the games PlayWay publishes, but their crowdfunding campaigns are "painless", you get your stuff, and you save some money on the game, since the game tiers are usually affordable.

I'm finding the game strangely appealing. It's a new game by the developer behind Bohemian Killing.
I got a Steam key for a demo, and it's interesting. A mix of those "janky" simulators, adventure game, "walking sim", with retro mini-games, and some genuinely interesting details.

Here's a video of the demo by another user (do skip along to see the mini-games, access to computer manuals, ...):

I got the bundle as well. Too many games I wanted to play or cherished in there, from the dungeon siege series to LiS and Sleeping Dogs. Probably not worth the 36 bucks it cost me but between charity and the chance to tell Square that their western properties are worth giving a damn about, I gave in :).

[UWSL][UWSL]Still not as expensive as FFXII[/UWSL][/UWSL]

Hmmm, 95 items for £19, i think i'll take advantage of that deal. I thought i owned more SquEidos games but nope.
I paid nearly as much for StationFlow the other day.

PSA to America. Sara is not pronounced like Sarah. I forgot to rename my character in Mass Effect Andromeda to Sarah so it matches what they're saying. grrrrrrr. Lara != Laura either.

I'm getting that itch to return to Dragons Dogma, I hope my savefile is still there, dont want to restart it for a fourth time! It's such a strange game, there is something specific about it that I cant put a finger on but makes me sometimes think about it and miss it.

What might be the issue if a 1080p mkv plays suuuuuuuuuuuuper choppy?
The only thing I can think of is compatibility issues with the player you are using, high bitrate and hardware is struggling, or just broken file, but I´m no expert.

Star Citizen's flight model has been controversial since their very first release of the Arena Commander module. CIG needs to understand that they won't be able to please everyone and just pick one idea and stick with it. Some of the very first, and presumably most invested, backers specifically want a proper, realistic simulation of space flight in the game. On the other hand, a simplified and more accessible flight model is what will actually get more people to play the game. I have a friend who backed the game and is pissed off that they will support controllers and third person view because that will change flight and combat mechanics. Now it sounds a bit absurd in this day and age to complain about controller support in a game that has vehicles, especially because joysticks are just not common peripherals these days. On the other hand, the original Kickstarter pitch was definitely for a fully realistic flight simulation model and I'm pretty sure you can't properly make that work with a controller.

As always, one of the biggest problems of the Star Citizen project is setting and managing expectations.

probably not ... still - i'm pretty sure 3080Ti is going to be $1500 (and 1800€ as a special "fuck you" for Europe)
Well Im not getting the 3o80ti, but the 3080. I play at 1080p, so a 3080 will be more than good enough. I bet a 3060 or 3070 will be more than good enough, but Im getting a 3080.

Might build a new PC as Im afraid my 5820k 4 ghz will bottleneck, so either a intel 10th gen or Ryzen 4000.

I agree regarding expectations, and the one set during the KS was a newtonian, realistic FM indeed. I agree that it has to be accessible, but that one is more down to the IFCS's design, HUDs and the ship's tuning. The problem is that they appear to have no idea what they want to shoot for.

Nah, it's totally worth it. ;)

$30 for 50+ games, and 50+ DLCs? It's totally worth the asking price, any day of the week.
These aren't asset flips or anything, we are talking about some great titles, and others that, while not so great, are certainly far from being devoid of interest.
I paid far more than $30 for many of the included games, with no regrets.
What would be a better deal? $30 would probably get you a couple of MP maps on a Call of Duty type game, and with that money you wouldn't even be able to buy one of the multiple season passes Koei Tecmo releases for their games. 😛

For example, I paid 44,99€ for Sleeping Dogs alone, plus I bough the DLCs, and even paid to upgrade to the Definitive Edition.
I would still pay 30€ for Sleeping Dogs, let alone all the games you get from the pack: you get all the Deus Ex titles, pretty much all of Ion Storm's internally developed games (if you can tolerate older games, do check out Anachronox), the Thief games, a lot of Tomb Raider games, plus a lot more.

It's a good chance to give some games you might not have given a chance otherwise a go. For example, Dungeon Siege III was relatively poorly received, but I found the game a lot of fun to play (with a controller; this was, at the time, one of the rare cases where I found an action RPG played in this perspective a lot more fun to play with a controller, instead of a mouse).
The Kane and Lynch games, for example, are also worth a look, especially since they are both short games.

That whole lot will get you busy for quite some time.

On my Steam activity feed, everyone in there is buying this bundle. :)
Sadly, I own them all already (completed this bundle on a previous Summer or Winter sale), so there's nothing new for me.

PSA to rest of world: Stop assuming we're idiots.

Nothing personal, but the one thing that has bothered me about this site, is the occasional "assume this about American's" sentiment I've noticed from posters around here. Please, knock it off.

I don't care for more than 90% of the content of the bundle though, and most of them I could have gotten individually on sale for far less than 36 bucks :p. The historical low for Sleeping Dogs is something like 2 or 3 bucks for instance.

It's a great package depending on what you want out of it, but for the games I wanted it was a little pricey.

Frequently, when I check itch.io, I see a lot of cool looking free games.
Here's another one:

And here's another interesting game, that's currently on alpha (not sure if the final version will remain free):

I spent 30€ on a single manga volume yesterday (physical hardcover and full color and it does look fantastic going by the one single image I could find,
but still) 😅
You can get almost the entire bundle for that! Digital games are so cheap.

True but what's cheap and affordable to you isn't to everyone unfortunately :). 30 bucks is quite close to a whole week's food budget for me.
