Oh. Well, dumb to be sure.

Video game is just another term for "digital gimmick" tho. Like since its inception. ; )

Also, if your response to EGS is to pirate something, hey, you do you. Just doing you, bringing respect to your cause and taking the high road in this. I'll just steal an alexia from my friend and the credentials of someone else to 'pirate amazon' instead of just living without it. Sounds cool, yes?
Pirate? I don't pirate anything.

I'm just pointing out that Steam seems to be the only PC store nowadays that can exist by actually selling video games. GOG too a little but its much smaller.

Everyone else needs to resort to subscriptions or straight up buying MAUs from corporations to give out freebies.

Its wtvr for me personally. I don't mind free games. And hey I love gamepass as well. Ever since I quit hearthstone last year...gamepass has pretty much been my #2 most used platform after Steam.

This have popped out of "nowhere" and seems pretty cool. From my readings its like a mix of Risk of Rain, Borderlands and a doze of rougelike.

Also:

My prediction: Total War Saga: Troy is not a good game, Creative Assembly knows that, but they have likely poured a lot of resources, time and money into it despite it being a spin-off, so they were not hesitant to accept Tims bag of cash. They knew it would create a lot of negavity form players, so they wrote their blog post about this exclusive deal being a one-off (of course, you can never trust that). The game will be released on EGS for free for 24 hours, Total War fans will play it for a bit and then go back to Warhammer 2, Three Kingdoms/Rome etc. Casual players will try it, some will like it and then go to Steam and check out the rest of the games, some won't like it and they won't care for the game.

No, not you. I didn't want to name names.

Gamepass is great. Steam is great. EGS is so far good only for freebies and super coupon discount days, no so great elsewise.

Well, to be fair, neither does steam. Sales drive sales. Steam has weird games and egs has coupons.
I have bought lots of games full priced, these are games I really want or has a launch discount like Monster Train has (10% off) that Im willing to play the minute I buy them, so launch discount makes me more eager.

It depends on the game, I have a wishlist with 758 items. Not because Im waiting on a sale on each of them, but because Im currently playing other stuff and will buy stuff on my wishlist at some point regardless if they are on sale or not (but Im obviously hoping for a sale once Im ready for them).

However, there's the problem when I really wanna buy something day 1 (like Saints & Sinners), but Im busy with other games and Im now done with those other games, but I feel a sale for Saints is just around the corner, so I wait for it.

Satisfactory will be on 10% sale when it releases on Steam on monday next week. I really wanna play it and will play it on monday, so I will get it. I would have gotten it if it wasn't on 10% sale too.

So it all depends on the game and my interest in it.

Yeah, I've bought some games full price too. Rarely but it happens.

The volume of sales and the money that Steam makes off its sales tell me that its the sales that make them major major bucks.

Sales definetly makes Valve rich.

Still, a lot of the top 10 best sellers globally are not on sale. Currently, half of top 10 best sellers globally on Steam is not on sale.

Sure. Some games just sell well, some games you get roped into playing with friends.

Still, half of top games are on sale. I'm sure there are times that its three quarters.

Sales are not bad! But, they are the bottom line for a lot of people, because they are less of a hit on your bottom line.

EGS gives me $10 off, that's a nearly all the way there for me. Just need to figure out a better computer, apocalypse 2020, life post my dad and a massive backlog before I get Metro Exodus or Control for the DLC :p

I'm not going to get into an argument, between all the games and DLC's i've spent close to 1000€ on the franchise, they'll be able to survive me pirating a game that's being given away for free anyways

in other news - ubi somehow found a way to give even less of a fuck about steam than they were previously ... the newest Anno DLC doesn't even have a store page ... so you have to buy the season pass (which also isn't linked anywhere, so if you don't have a direct link to its store page - you're not buying it) ... or you aren't getting the DLC
"Commerce is hard" (or what was that recent ubi reply about it)

I'm really, really pissed right now. Seriously, Epic is destroying every bit of my enthusiasm for pc gaming. 😡
tbh i have been feeling kinda that aka "gaming industry destroying every bit of my enthusiasm for gaming" for like few years now oscilating in all 5 stages of grief ( way before the epic consense came ).

which always ends up with me having to do some time off social media and gaming news... every few months until some cool little indie ideas sparks my interest or i just return to the good old classics to improve my mood

During the first year of Epic exclusivity deals there was some ambiguity about whether releasing on Steam a year late would harm sales/revenues of the delayed game. Now, after about half a year of exclusive games releasing on Steam, the Steam community has proved that there is absolutely no downside to releasing the game late on Steam. People will flock to buy the games they were always going to buy (like Hades or the upcoming Satisfactory). Games that were never going to sell well (like that sci fi roguelike FPS, forgot the name, or Ashen) will not. In either case, going exclusive with EGS is proving to be the objectively correct move. Even people on this forum buy former Epic exclusives the moment they appear on Steam and then some gloat about how they only paid half price for it... as if Tim Sweeney hasn't already given the publisher half a million times more money than that one half of one full retail copy price that you didn't pay.

Any publisher or developer that is offered the Epic exclusivity deal should take it without a shadow of a doubt. The Steam community has proved this for the market.

Epic has also learned that customers can be bought for very cheap. All it takes for gamers to forget that Epic is paying publishers to keep games away from Steam or to even ignore the undercooked, featureless service that Epic provides is one single ten dollar coupon. That's all. This is how they are continuing to grow their store. Remember that time Intel got caught essentially paying off hardware OEMs to not use AMD chips? Gamers were like "OMG! how anti consumer of them!". But when it comes to Epic paying off publishers not to sell their stuff on Steam, it's more like "Pardon me sir, could you tell me what next week's free game is?"

In case there's still any doubt, Epic will never stop moneyhatting exclusives. People are under this illusion that "Oh eventually they'll have to stop and things will go back to normal" but why would they? This is proving to be an extremely successful strategy for them and the more customers they draw, the more it amortizes the cost of exclusivity. They will continue to pick and choose the biggest and best games and do these deals forever. Speaking of Sega, can you imagine just how many new customers EGS will get if they pay to have the next Football Manager exclusively on their store? The only reason Sega might not do that is because a year later they will have another entry so they won't get any money from Steam for it, but for Epic it would be worth it to get hundreds of thousands of FM fans. Sega wouldn't lose a thing. In fact, if it scales up enough, you might even start to see publishers voluntarily go exclusive with Epic just for the higher cut.

Paid store exclusivity is the future that PC gamers have chosen for themselves.

I wanna know what's gonna be revealed on June 4th. Sega Shiro game? Revival of classic IPs? That Famitsu article better be good when it drops.

this year? Not so much.
GTA 5 is a pretty big deal than most games last year, honestly.

Cool. Was a general statement not directed at you. See this justification a lot, its a bit bunk. On the one hand, who cares about an digital product sold by a megacorp that didn't even "exist" until you paid for it. On the other hand, first time devs trying to make it get pirated to hell and back for funding. The general idea, which I've heard here A LOT, is that "if its EGS, its cool to pirate", which you know....

If its hardware related it better be a VR headset or a handheld gaming device. I can't think of much else that would be significant tbh.

Does Sega even have the capability to make a VR headset or handheld? I can think they'll make a Saturn or a Dreamcast mini, but they don't strike me as a company that'll make tech like VR or a worthwhile handheld when the Switch exists.

I tried out the demo for this kickstarter, it basically tries to be a character action game but in a 2D plane. I'm not good at these types of games and don't wanna sound like an armchair expert, but it felt sorta slow and hitting the enemies doesn't feel as good as other games like DMC if that makes any sense. I also didn't do much combos and it feels like filling the stylish gauge is pretty damn hard, but I guess with time, replayability and experimentation you can do it just like in all these other games. There's a demo if any of you like these type of combo and stylish heavy games.

I won't call a Total War SAGA game for the "best and biggest games", neither Samurai Showdown or Huntdown or Sludge Life. Last year it was bigger with Control, Blands 3, Satisfactory, Hades, Outer Worlds, this year? Not so much.
I'm not talking about what they did last year or this year. I'm talking about 3-5-7 years in the future. Last year they had over 100 exclusives. In 3 years that number will whittle down to 15 exclusives per year, and that is when they will pick the biggest and best games. I gave one example with Football Manager. FF7 Remake could be one as well. Arma 4. The next Bioshock. Even indies like Spelunky 2. The next game by Jonathan Blow or Supergiant. They will get to pick and choose whichever games they want and developers would be completely nuts to turn down the offer.

Steam customers have proved that taking the Epic exclusivity deal is objectively the correct choice.

Steam customers have no good choice.

EGS exclusive sells well on Steam = Publisher win and is happy, got both Steam sales money and Epic money, but will show that some people won't use Epic

EGS exclusive sells bad on Steam = Publisher will say that taking EGS money was the right choice after all

Yeah I'm sure Epic will continue to spend millions on exclusives that people only get for free or with coupons that removes whatever profit they could make out of them, sounds like a sane strategy :steam_cleanseal:

Either way I ain't using their shit. Get all the exclusives you want, I have several lifetimes of games to play already.

Steam customers have no good choice.
And among those no good choices, they are choosing the option where they reward the publisher that took the Epic deal by giving them even more money.

Which is why I am saying that taking the Epic deal is objectively the correct choice for publishers.

Could you use the EGS thread for EGS talk please? I muted that thread for a reason - I dont wanna mute this one. :)
I agree with this. I fully understand the anger that Epic rightfully deserves. I'm someone who deleted their Epic account when they started doing exclusives. I even went the extra mile to email the Dauntless devs to try to ensure that my old Dauntless beta account wouldn't be converted into yet another Epic account.

For me when a game becomes exclusive I ignore the Steam page and forget about the game. That's the end of it for me. As Stone Ocean said a couple posts ago I have a pretty sizable backlog that I can most likely spend years working on and it's not like Steam will ever be lacking new, great titles either. Heck, I have over 400 on my wishlist even! :face-screaming-in-fear:

Oh, and BlindRhythm this warm welcome should be proof enough that your fears are unfounded and that people love you when you are you :photoblobheart:
Haha you're right! It all seems so silly now when I had that worry in my head. Thank you and everyone else for the kind words you've given me! It means so much! :cat-heart-blob:

So with the GOG sales, I can;'t decide if I want to go all in on older titles I would be double-dipping on, but would greatly appreciate the ease of the gog installed version vs some partially working hardcopies (due to win8/10 not liking the drm on them). Nets me about 8 games.
Or
Spend the same cash on newer titles, which nets me 3-5 depending on the titles

Lol, I forgot that there was going to be a Playstation Conference this week. I was probably mildly hyped for it at some point last week, can't really remember. 2020 keeps delivering ridic moments so fast that I barely remember January and February.

Can't have a conference when the military is occupying your building.

EDIT: Apparently that is the day of George Floyd's memorial.

Can anyone refresh my memory on how I was able to make a Uplay AC Unity shortcut in Steam ?
I just tried the same for Syndicate but couldn't find the game in steam external game list and only was able to make a Uplay link through Steam.

But I definitely could make a custom Unity one. So I'm forgetting something or UBI changed something for this one.

Look at that small size! How can you even play on this thing?!

If they're going to go that small they should make it something slightly smaller so you can hang it off a keychain and play in class in middle school without getting caught.
