It’s really hard finding my Christmas open world checklist game this year. Initially planned it being RDR2. But then AC Valhalla is two days before Cyberpunk. And Death Stranding is something I would like to play even though the story is bonkers in a bad way. And Elex 2 might also be around then, too.

My go-to magazine in the late 90s and early 2000s was [the German-language] PC Player - until that was bought up by PC Gamer's parent company, redesigned to look alike and then killed off in 2001.

There is an archive here: PC Player forever
Was that the one with the legendary Briefonkel Rainer Rosshirt or was that PC Action?

I had a TON of old 80s/90s Speccy/General gaming magazines but they were binned decades ago when i moved out to go to Uni :(

Early CVG, Crash, Sinclair User and the best... Your Sinclair!

Praise the Sun for Archive.org!

I do have Edge magazine going back to the early issues though. They'll be moving around with me forever.

The UK edition of the PC Gamer magazine is nothing like the twitter/clickbait of the site, so at least there's that to say for it. I still have my subscription and there's usually some interesting articles in it.

I never bought it, in fact I haven't heard of it at all. Was it focused on gaming?
It was a pc gaming mag filtered through a Maxim parody. Maybe not such a good idea in 2020, but in 1997, a definite change from the old white guys talk about games for 50 pages. One of their editor was a deceased coat rack in a gas mask, for instance. Just weird and not taking itself seriously at all, but the content was thorough and well written if often tongue in cheek (see editor being a coat rack). Never would have found some of my favourite pc games without it.

Example issue:

This was mine.

Next Generation articles were great, at least to my teenage mind.at the time. I feel smarter reading their articles.
Oh man, I remember that quote about it being a game screenshot. Those were the days

gabbo Your Sinclair had the same quirky humour with a couple of double-entendres and nods and winks in it so that mums would still buy it for little johnny. Crash was good but a bit dry, not as dry as Sinclair User but that was to be expected as it started out covering productivity software and moved into games coverage when the market exploded. At least that's how i remember them.

Early CVG was good as it covered Arcade and consoles too. I knew the Americans had a video game bust but it barely registered for me and my mates as we all had C64/Speccy/Amstrads, consoles were barely a thing over here at the time. Good times. Lots of nostalgia for those 8bit machines even if 80% of the games are near unplayable when you go back to them.

Vice even had an article on Your Sinclair years ago talking about how they changed games magazines.

Done with Watch Dogs' main story. Story has its moments and some of the gameplay mechanics (eg. combat, gadgets, hacking) are also fun. Fun game overall though it may be too repetitive to some.

Now moving on to some smaller titles while slowly tackling Trails of Cold Steel. I will also come back to WD from time-to-time to clear side activities as well as the DLC.

But still no Tetris date or price :sweaty-blob:
9 days left, my friend, if it's releasing in 9 days, we should be getting the announcement July 16, a week prior the potential release date, just like last year.
July 16 - announcement of PC version (egs)
July 23 - release of pc version.

Let's see if pattern repeats again. :cat-heart-blob:

Is Death Stranding worth £55? It looks fun but I could get 5 other fun games for that amount.
That's a difficult question to answer, you see there are two parts of Death Stranding, the story and the gameplay.

Story is interesting, Kojima style mixing both Sci-fi and more meta stuff like life and death or what connects us (the main core of the story).

However the gameplay is not what you would think, it's a carrying packages simulator with mixes of action and exploration, it is very zen, it's gorgeous but there's also a management part that it's mostly menus, spending resources and materials and of course, getting better gear to make even more impressive carrying, you are connecting the people through the package delivery alongside other things so....

If you want a relaxing, frustrating, quite repetitive game but that has a very interesting story, Death Stranding is your game, although it's not for everyone, I would recommend to check it out before buying.

£38 on cdkeys.com

Still not the recommended "never pay more than 20 bucks for a game" though 😏😉

Hard to tell in general, feelings for DS are all over the place.

EDIT: What helped me is to watch 40 minutes of this:

But it is getting into spoiler territory. So be carefull.

I haven't played it, but it've heard it's definitely one of Kojima's more divisive games.

Another story from SAO Alicization Lycoris.

Since the game only have 1 (you read that right, one) save slot for everything, including manual save and auto-save on crafting something and passing certain points of story quest, your save can easily get overwritten by starting a new game. :suicide-blob:

Oh look, Ubi stuff is on sale and it is making money.
Quelle surprise.

Yeah and it pretty much killed HZD making it go from 7th to 21th :confounded-face:

Ubisoft banking on Steam is no an unusual thing, if anything is funny how much they sell every time there's a sale.

Yeah, I noticed tha sale yesterday. There are at least 3 games with a new highest lowest discount which are Far Cry 3, 4 and 5 if I'm not wrong.
I guess Ubi didn't want to put their games on current discount prices for so long during Steam Summer sale until their UbiForward stream, so well, now it's not a bad time to pick some of their Far Cry games if you want and miss them. The Bundle is probably a good purchase for the majority of the players that like the Far Cry franchise.

What's the reason for having only one save slot? Is it so it can emulate an mmorpg game?
