So I've got this 1st world problem where I want to use my DS4 as an Xbox 360 gamepad and leave it at that. Simply and to the point I used DS4Windows.

I don't really care for proper DS4 integration or anything for the few games that decide and do that. I don't need the touch pad and share or whatever.

Still, apps like RetroArch seem to rely on the order of activation/acknowledgement of the device by Windows to map it. There are also some games that only accept the "first" xinput controller they see for input (regardless of what you set as the "preferred device" in the Windows settings for "older programs"). So I first connected my DS4, set it up as a 360 pad with DS4 Windows, then connected the Fighting Commander, then finally my flight stick, and that was their order.

Then I for example mapped stuff in this RetroArch system core so that the DS4 turned to 360 via DS4Windows is controller 1 and my Fighting Commander controller 2. And for another core, the opposite because I prefer the Fighting Commander to be the primary instead (ie for Sega Saturn and arcade stuff).

It all worked great, Trials of Mana and Phantasy Star Online 2 accepted the DS4 as the first 360 pad input, RetroArch cores/games worked as intended, etc.

The next day it seems that the controller order changed and then messed up everything, perhaps mostly because DS4Windows starts after logging in Windows so that pad goes through the process of first being a dinput controller and then becoming a 360 xinput gamepad after the fact, so the "last" device, while the others just work as soon as Windows starts via their drivers. Anyway, the result was those two games expected the Fighting Commander for input and my DS4 as 360 pad didn't do anything in them, RetroArch cores had different controllers as gamepad 1 and 2 than I had set, etc.

So, does anyone have a way for these usb devices to have the same order no matter what happens on boot so that my DS4 as 360 is always first? I would think that as long as they're not actually uninstalled Windows should keep them with the same order even when they're unplugged as long as they remain in the device manager (as hidden unplugged devices) and you do reconnect them before playing but I guess that's just not the case.

Or alternatively a few simple steps to use Steam's input thing (I never wrapped my head around this seemingly clunky thing, hence the use of the simple DS4Windows) instead for my DS4 to act as an Xbox 360 pad (and as the only pad games like those above recognize and work off of) so I can just use it as a vanilla dinput controller in RetroArch and hopefully not have the order change every time I boot Windows as all controllers will be connected from the start? Unless that also has a chance to change their order based on how the different USB slots get power and device detection or something which would suck.

You are still projecting. Where did I say what gaming should be? I play niche-ass niche games that even people on this board rarely heard about.
I never said they are not allowed to play a game. I found the gushing of it cringe-worthy.

I can roll my eyes at anyone I want to, Mainstream media doesn't need to be defended by you. right back to you
You may think I'm projecting but I'm just saying what I'm reading from these posts. You feel my reading of your posts is wrong and you've said so. Fine.

Finding the gushing 'cringe worthy' is..... well a tiny bit elitist.

But, you do you, don't really care a whole lot to continue this increasingly defensive conversation.

Thank you for the hidden little message. :)

FWIW, as far as I know when you use Xinput there's not way to actually get this information. Therefore I personally implement "whatever Xinput controller was last active" in single player games, but it's also understandable for games to simply use controller ID 0.

The Steam feature to arbitrarily reorder controllers is very useful in this context, but obviously it only works in connection with the Steam overlay / input machinery.

Well, I don't know how to explain things right maybe but those two games I mentioned didn't accept input from my DS4 as 360 pad and tried to work with the Fighting Commander (also xinput) instead until I did the process where I unplugged/uninstalled everything and then set up the DS4 first before the rest. Others work with whatever controller you press buttons on and switch between keybord/gamepads just fine and what not. Other random games (like Styx) would take input from my flight stick instead and constantly drift the camera right because of the way the axis work on that (even though it's not even xinput) even though they also accept keyboard or other pad input at the same time (but obviously I couldn't play right until I unplugged the flight stick).

had to google if the caption was real... and it seems like it...
Anime can be wild at times. Did the mobile game ever come out for this series?

I'm trying to use the steam controller config and it's just frustrating and incomprehensible. Like I'm doing the define layout thing for my fighting commander and it waits for input for this or that function and accepts what I press, then I move on to the next button etc. etc. then randomly instead of accepting input to map as a function it instead actually does a different function with that input like exit that configuration screen or open the chat or whatever random shit, wtf dude.

Edit: screw that bs I guess... back to DS4Windows... And the same ordering controllers issue that comes with it...

every time I want to enable/disable it I have to do that, it would be faster if I had a button which opened the controller settings menu directly on the client (i.e. similar to how we have a BPM button)

I generally keep it disabled as some games tend to behave weirdly when they both support the controller natively and the Playstation Configuration Support is enabled.
I see.

In my experience, native DS4 support means no vibration, and it's a deal breaker for me. I'd rather have XBox prompts than no vibration, it feels weird. That said, it seems that it's only an issue with wireless setup, as vibration will always work on wired.

The Steam Game Festival: Autumn Edition is coming this October!

I guess it's official. The ultimate edition doesn't come with the expansion packs, though.

Windows Store needs price adjusting bundles and way to tell what dlcs you have/don't have.
No idea which of those I should buy when I have Hot Wheels Edition + Blizzard Mountain (Ultimate edition?)

As soon as I see roguelike, I'm out. Other than the fact that the word has lost all meaning, when a game truly does nail the roguelike feel, I hate it.

Hey Horizon is a shit port, but the game's pretty fun to play. It's fast and it feels nice, even if some animations can go a bit haywire (like the stealth kills that send Aloy in a weeeeird path finding sometimes, it's annoying when you're not invincible doing it either).
Now that's a game that nailed new items pretty well too, simple but effective crafting.

On the other hand the skill system, eurgh. It's absolutely nuts that if you can't see the tiny differences in UI design, you can't tell the difference between Horizon, Assassin's Creed or Tomb Raider... all the AAA games have the same template of boring ass"upgrades"... that just so happen to give you the base movements that you would expect in such a game, like stealth kills or the now ubiquitous bullet time.

Sucks, especially since the way to level up is just "do random shit and kill monsters for XP", there's just zero flavor or any lore systems in place. That's the difference between kill 100 robots, get more storage room; and upgrading your pouch with specific materials looted on specific monsters.
Huge, huge difference in player's satisfaction.
And it gives reasons to do things beside the highest XP per hour grind too...

But anyway, it's not the worst example, Horizon is still fairly fun. Just the usual pitfalls that I hope will change a bit with the next gen.

My Fall Guys store updated and it's all pattern's and colors, no outfits. Why do you hate me so much, game? 😭

I'll stop posting about Fall Guys now. Just wanted to be annoying one last time in the spirit of the game :grimacing-face:

Windows store needs unfucking in general. Search for Forza Horizon 3 here and it claims it doesn't exist at all unless I search for it a second time but then its the same as for you - no real way to say if I own the ultimate edition despite the fact I actually do. Just tells me I own all the individual parts that make up FH3 Ultimate edition.

Exactly the same shit with FH4, a clusterfuck of awful presentation of showing what I own properly on the store and I own the ultimate edition of that as well. So telling me I could buy things individually again is just confusing.

Congrats Internet, now more crunch thanks to your memes
Now just announce the postponement of the release of PS5 and XBX to 2021 spring like we know has happened and let this farce end.

While gamer memes and social media interactions are overall shitty as fuck, M$ pushed for them to release gameplay that was most likely not ready for the exposure it got. Must be soul crushing for the people on the team but M$ enjoys eating souls so....
