A big problem for me with non-Steam games (GOG, EGS, Battle.net, Uplay) is that because I am logged into Steam all day (I use it as my main platform), I forget games that are not on Steam. Like I got Bugsnax, Pathless and Godfall which are on EGS on wednesday and thursday, I bought Valhalla with the price error (still no order confirmation lol) on Uplay and I got CoD on friday.

I haven't touched any of the EGS games or Valhalla since thursday and CoD since friday, I forgot I own them. Because I don't regularly open those launchers (I call them launchers while Steam is a platform) in compared to Steam which I have always open. So I forget about games on them.

This is a problem for Epic/Ubi/Acti.
I don't really have this issue because I use my desktop as a sort of "I have these" list with various games' shortcuts, but I can see how you'd forget about these games if you don't have them right in front of you.

Which brings me to that very important question : what in the world do you use your desktop space for then? :p

Im trying to have it as clean as possible. Right now it consists of 4 documents, shorcuts for Genshin Impact, FFXIV and Treesize free. Other stuff like Spotify, Chrome, Discord, Steam, Oculus, EGS etc. are in the taskbar or whatever it's called below.

However, Im considering placing FFXIV and Genshin as non-Steam game in Steam to remove the desktop shortcuts.

I have icons on the desktop disabled entirely. Hate having a bunch of incongruous icons in the background. Instead, I pin everything I need to the start menu or the taskbar 😅

When I need to find some specific app, I just press the win key and start typing.

An easily solvable one. Put everything on Steam, done! Well, not for Epic, but fuck Epic.

This is shaping up really sweet. Hopefully the single player stuff are meaty enough. It looks like playable, manual and not just press a for awesome, anime fights!

Shame it's a fighting game, how cool would it be as an alternate take on an action adventure like Platinum Games makes with that system? Maybe the sequel!
I don't see how it being a fighting game is a shame. Anarchy Reigns as mentioned already, has a PVP mode where you just fight other players. Don't think it makes the game worst. Since you said "with that system" seems like you're fine with how it already plays so the fighting game origin doesn't seem to hinder how it looks currently to you. It obviously requires polish though.

I like what is shown in that video which is like an action adventure set up with the way the encounter starts, the archer being up top for a sneaky attack as he's busy with the first enemy like it happens in say, the Souls games. The fighting system looks good and fun, it's super stylish and I'm sure I'll enjoy it as is but I would prefer to have an adventure to go on and expand on what is seen in that video with fun level design and enemy encounters with different types and numbers and bosses over some limited arenas/waves of enemies for PVE and the main focus being 1 on 1 fights as in any fighting game and its first trailer. Someone already likened it to Anarchy Reigns, that one had a fun combat system but I enjoy Platinum Games' action adventures more than PVP/token PVE.

Started Soma, I can already tell that this game is right up my alley.
First impression wasn't great though because the game got stuck on the loading screen when leaving the first area.

Even though I finished Yakuza Kiwami 2 I still play it for the cabaret club. Not only is the gameplay addictive, it actually has its own plot and you end up really caring about the characters.
Each hostess also has her own sub-story.

I wish Linear Bounded Phenogram could be bought separately from Stein's Gate Elite, even though it's on sale I still can't afford it and it's killing me.

Reached Rank 5 in God Eater 3 :heroblob: I wonder if I should try out some of the other weapons, but the scythe is just too cool.

Also making my way through Higurashi ep. 5 right now. It's a bit of a shame that it's been a while since I've played the previous 4 episodes and will likely miss some subtle connections, but oh well. Should still be a wild ride regardless.

The game is still a work in progress so I can't definitively say one way or another how it will pan out. I just wanted to say being a fighting game, I don't think it doesn't mean it will not have fun level design and variety of enemies. The level design in the video, at least to me, doesn't seem like just some reused arena in a multiplayer plopped into single player. Level design in terms of layout rather than art design I mean. I am a bit confused though since I'm sure Platinum action games also puts you into arenas with waves of enemies to fight before progressing. Hopefully Varvarion developer will add cutscenes, and potentially small puzzles to go through as the levels progress making it more of an adventure.

Basically I think this is too small of a preview to consider this some kind of token single player game and I'm hopeful for it.

So, I've finished RE3R in under 6 hours and I really don't get why is it a full price game? Not because it's a short game, I'm perfectly fine with short games that deliver quality, because it's lazily made. The last two boss fights with Nemesis is some of the most boring shit ever: shoot fucker, wait for him to run a few circles around you, shoot again, repeat and railgun battle ain't even tense. It got a bit better towards the end, but ehh, most definitely not worth the full price, maybe not even at 50%. Just an average ass TPS.

Obligatory
I've been observing European taste in games they play and develop have a lot of correlation with their lifestyle.

My friend currently got admission for PhD in Vienna and we had a talk yesterday. He told me people are very content here and don't like going too much beyond their current means (he said they aren't as ambitious, whatever that means). This simulator games (and many slow-paced games) would feel right at home to them there.

Of course, I'd love to hear from actual Europeans on this thought.

RE3R was my worst purchase of this year. What they did with Nemesis is just horseshit.

I'm not European but from the sounds of it, it seems that people are okay (more or less) with their social economic standing in society and because of that's don't really have plays to move up high. So there is not really much need for say a "blue collored" worker to try to say go back to school and do more training and stuff in order to get a much better paying job. In some other places (like the US) you see a lot of people that are not happy with their standing in society and some of that might just be them not happy with their "dead end job" so someone that is ambitious would maybe try to start their own business or just try a different vocation.

I think in some parts of EU there are still unions and stuff like that and laws that protect workers.

So if you found a nice paying job and if your content with your life your going to be okay with life being set to "cruise control"

As a stark contrast if you look at a place like Japan you will notice that there is a fixation on fantasy (sci-fi as well?) and on with youth (which is why a lot of the most popular stuff from Japan typically tend to have younger characters. You do t really see that much slice of life games and even ones that do have some stuff like that (Persona) you still have the fantasy part of it.

Life in Japan can be very depressing and that's is why you see so much Isekai series because people are not content with their lives. So people want an escape. Having a full time job now and stuff I can see why Isekai series are popular (well at least I think that because of how they all start with a 20-30 year old office work who isn't happy with their life ends up dying and being wisped away to some fantasy land were they now have god like powers.

Are suicide rates in Japan high because people are not happy with their standing in society? And why you also have hikemori? Their are shut ins and stuff like that in other countries as well but I think Japan does have a high number of young individuals that refuse to leave their rooms.

Steam's fighting game sales event is pretty fancy. Special graphics, various streams, cool page layout, I like it.
There is another event going on as well. I wonder if they later on plan to have a special page to let people know about upcoming events and stuff.

The other event is a UK game fest. Guildford Fest.

I'm curious with the new gen consoles if they will impalement some sort of fest type of store feature.

I guess maybe they would not since some of this type of stuff is relatively new. More traditionally They would just get a group of games and then just put them on sale. That was more or less how it's been. When it's Golden Week you just see games on sale and that's about it.

oh and tomorrow I get my PS5!!!!!

I still have to move around a lot of my set up in order to be able to set it up and play the same day

To be honest, while I know Europe a lot more than Japan and can't possible match your own experience of it from the sound of it, both cultures really have me depressed in a similar way. My experience of Europe is colored by the way I have been raised and abused, so there's that, but overall it's a very "keep your head down, and no matter what you do DO NOT STAND OUT" kind of atmosphere. Being unemployed is being less than human while a one size fits all education with coarse branching paths is offered.

Japan honestly felt bad as hell as well past the tourism/history delight. It is just as exploitative - if not more - a culture, but I get the feeling there's a lot less dehumanization and uniformization, for foreigners, outside of work. That isn't to say it isn't there, and oh boy how work does squeeze the life out of you, but it appears people and society allow you to be a person, to be special in your own way.

Either way I feel both cultures suck and I have no idea where I want to land, help me NA/NZ/etc.

I think the Isekai trend is both a desire to escape - just like Europe just loves the shit out of anime - but you can also make the point that a lot of people there just love gatcha and a really zany grind that kind of echoes the truck simulators? Maybe I'm being really stereotypical, but I don't get the feeling both societies are all that different. It's all exploitative and geared toward the dehumanization of people as little gears fitting into the money-machine.

Just received my DS5 controller at work. Opened it up to see how it feels, and damn, it's certainly heavier than the DS4. Will also take some time getting used to it's shape and larger size. Although, it's nice that Sony has gone back to the more enclosed L2 & R2 triggers.

For anyone interested, you can follow the experimental DS5 PC support here: https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4Windows/issues/1545

After not having used my Xbox one controller in a long time and also having mainly used the DS4 and now using the DS it's hard to use the new Xbox controller. The placement of the "select" button is not that good. With DS4 the select button is just the touchpad.

Looking at the release schedule, Rise demo 1 in Jan and demo 2 in Mar. GUILLOTINE is planned to release in Feb on Switch and on other platforms in May. Might be a smaller game as it is not yet announced.
Great Ace Attorney yes yes yes
The leaked image said "DISK Japan Only Planned" in Japanese. So, no indication of localization yet but there is possibility.

I once thought this was contentious opinion, but I've seen this stated so much that I must be in minority.
Umineko is regardless a great game worthy of recommendation, albeit I personally feel it has some pacing issues.

Well that's the opinion about Higurashi/Umineko that I've seen everywhere. You still need to play Higurashi first though to understand all the references.
