Not sure what screenshot / camera tool it is but either way 5 dollars per month for one trick tool is insanely expensive. I pay 12 euro per month for Photoshop and Lightroom and those can do a quite a bit more.
As I said you can pay one month, get tool for all games that he made it for and canceled subscription. But if tool gets update (sometimes needed when new game patch is released or when he decides to add new feature) after your subscription ended you need to pay again. And for something that I personally won't use that often and doesn't bring me any money it is too much.

As much as I am for supporting modders Frans is kinda not telling whole truth here. First for me it is 6.5$ and that is per month. What that means is that if you paid for one month and got his Camera tools if update is released next month you need to pay again as far as I know. I could be wrong but as far as I know Patreon locks posts and files as soon as your subscription ends.
The tool also seems to continuously add support for new games, so I feel it's more than fair for the guy to ask for some money if you want to use those tools. I feel a smart business move would be to release the older versions for free after a month or two. The comparison with Photoshop is weird, since Adobe is selling those to millions of people, and can afford a lower price per unit. If this modder works on this like a full-time job, then I could see a 5$ sub as justified.

And honestly, the tweet talks about hate, so given what that usually means for gamers (death threats and the sort), it's hard to defend.

Each game has separate download it is not one tool for all. But again I am fine paying 5$ if I will have option to get updates and download tool after my subscription ends. But as far as I know as soon as subscription ends you lose all of that.

I think you still have access to the older blog posts even after your sub ends. But it's been a while that I used Patreon, maybe I remember it wrong.
And I feel it's fair to want money for updates, if it is a small indie developer. Those updates don't write themselves.

I can't say that i agree with paying for updates in this case.

Also daily F ASUS post, now they moved big Z370/Z390 thread from Maximus subforum to other motherboards sub forum. They are doing everything to put it under the rug.

Huntdown is our first title, and, as you can imagine, the games industry is a tough business to succeed in. Last year we decided to go Epic Games Store exclusive for the PC version. As a small team, this gave us much needed reassurance that we'd stay in business. The EGS deal also secured us time to give Huntdown some essential polishing, and give players the experience we envisioned, and they expected. We didn’t take this decision lightly, and our goal has always been to bring the Huntdown experience to everyone, regardless of platform.

Now we're closing in on the one year anniversary, we're thrilled to finally release on Steam! We have been absolutely humbled by the passion the Steam community has shown for Huntdown over the past year, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to join the community!
did they just admint they used EGS deal for beta?

Im considering getting

because it's published my Irregular Corporation which is now owned by Epic (Mediatonic), but not sure if I should.
if you need to look at some gameplay to help you with your decision:

~

I'm playing The Outer Worlds right now. Usually I play a game like this slow and methodically, by doing all quests and sidequests, searching everywhere I can, and try to be nice and get the best possible outcome for everyone.

And then, on the second playthrough, I just blast through everything and play like a complete arsehole. This time, I started with that "second" playthrough. So, technically I completed that game, but not the way I'd usually do it. I'm doing it my "usual" way now. EIther way, I quite enoy the game and its world :)

Had this on my radar for ages, is it good?
Yeah. I mean, there's still a lot of underlying jank which comes with the territory, but it's really good overall. (Well, I didn't play the whole thing yet, but judging from what I did play)

This, and that debate about paid mods has pretty much reached its conclusion for me - not all content is created equally, it would make a horrid mess of dependencies and end up creating something that can't scale for the user. No way you could have hundreds of mods as you have today, not to mention that mods would have to be kept up to date and play nice with each other as they are all by definition live services.

also someone asked about Maneater Steam launch

Probably sooner than what the message let's you guess, Steam package has been getting regular updates lately (last important one languages and configs) so I don't discard an Early Summer release (not quite ready for Anniversary tho which is late May) we will see.

this happens a lot more than expected, to be honest.

As much as I am for supporting modders Frans is kinda not telling whole truth here.
I don't understand the context surrounding the tweet. To be honest, I did not know that there was a business about in-game photography tools. However, I dislike the way the tweet is framed. First, that dude has 335 patreons with 3 tiers (5€, 25€, 50€), so he earns a rent of 1675 €/month at least. For this kind of business, and what could be a part-time job, I think he is doing fine. I don't know what were his expectations, but he seems to be good at setting prices and running his business. Second, that same dude complains about potential customers who are not happy about the price, which is bound to happen in any business. Convincing people to pay for something is hard. He managed to do it for a sufficient number of people so that his business is sustainable, but naturally cannot convince everyone. Third, he calls the unconvinced people "gamers" and judges them based on the alleged price which they paid for their computer. This is where it gets absurd to me. People who consider using in-game photography tools are more akin to photographers than gamers. Or has photography become really that popular among "gamers", thanks to tools like Ansel?

That's a bit beside the point anyway. Beyond the argument for paid mods, he's free to charge for software and people are free not to pay for it. Giving him hate for it is as unacceptable as his complaining about his potential customers and deciding for them what their financial budgets should look like.
True.

I am cringing saying this: but "they are paid with exposure".
What gives you a better outlook for a future employment. Your 5$/month tool that was used by 100 people, or the free tool that was downloaded over a million times?

Sure, you could be a hotshot and make your own company but then why are you trying to make money out of other people's work?

I don't know how Durante started his company or how he got in contact with gaming companies and do contraction work. But his modding tools and mods that he made available was probably a good reference on what he could do and that the end-product he made, was sought after heavily.

A thing I notice while playing Yakuza 6 and having just spent a little bit of time in the arcade playing Space Harrier and some darts is the thought "I don't have time for this!!!". Mainly because there is a boatloads of other long games that I want to play waiting for me going into this almost stressful mode for something I do in my leisure time. It sucks.

Updating those tools still requires time and effort to do so, I've made basic camera tools via CheatEngine for one F2P game, but since the game was receiving new content on a weekly basis they were getting broken after each update. Even it was just a cheat table, repairing it every week was a huge pain in the ass and I eventually gave up on it. Of course, most single-player AAA games don't update so often, but his camera tools is not a simple cheat table either, it can take literally days of full-time developing code or even worse in some cases. If it was that easy to make and update those tools, then there would have been a lot of free alternatives, but there aren't and that should speak for itself.

I see a lot of people here don't understand what are these tools. These mods are like more advanced photomodes without annoying limits and very useful features like camera movement speed and frameskip. I'm taking HUDless shots in games as a hobby for around 10 years already and Frans's tools are like a lifesaver for me, without them I wouldn't be able to take the majority of my recent shots. Yes, they are not as versatile as Adobe products, but they are great for their niche and Ansel is nowhere near as good as those tools, so it's really not surprising why people are willing to pay for those mods. I can't afford to support Frans on regular basis, but I don't play the newest games like Cyberpunk 2077 and his mods for older games still work perfectly. So yeah, it's not really required to spend 5 bucks a month on his Patreon to get working tools, and it's not quite the same as products from big software companies.

Just to be clear i have no issue paying for things including smaller mods or software like Frans makes. Hell i paid like 5-10$ for tool to download my Flickr images and create same folders that they were on the service. It was 1 time tool. My issue is basically using Patreon to sell them in kinda half subscription way and there is no clear info how things will work after subscription ends.

And regarding updates yeah it takes time but that is normal thing when you are selling software. And no matter how big or small you are when money is involved both sides expect more. For me asking to technically pay full price every few weeks/moths to get updates is kinda too much.

There is always something to bitch about whenever a product or service is not free :suicide-blob:
Hell, people will bitch even when the service is free. I had a bunch of assholes that I have Patreon page for my youtube channel, they were complaining about "how you DARE to ask money for making such shitty videos". I still hesitant with promoting my own Patreon page at all, because I launched it only because Patreon was increasing their fees for all new pages that were going to launch later. All I was doing for my patrons is mention them at the end of my videos and monthly updates with a sneak peek for my next videos, and even that somehow triggered some people.

Ah well

I realized there is an ACTUAL Darkroot Garden area i hadn't explored, so lemme go there next,
then Demon Ruins and into Lost Izalith.
That leaves Valley of Drakes and New Londo Ruins

Once I cleared those, I'll do the Astoras DLC
Painted World and Undead Asylum I'm gonna ignore, former because...she ain't hurtin' anybody for one thing.

Ignore them. You make content and it is free on Youtube.

I am a big supporter for creators going to Patreon. but anyone who thinks they can support their work with Patreon only content (so no free release after a specific time) is kidding themselves. Most Authors, developers, modders, artists, who didn't release free content anymore lost most of their audience or never took off in the first place.

Bonus Patreon-only content? mostly fine, as long as normal free content isn't impacted
Patreon Discord only? Fine.
Patreon-only multiplayer sessions? Fine
Patreon-only polls? Fine.
Patreon-only early access (the most common thing on Patreon) fine.
But ditching your whole audience? death-knell

For modding especially: This is not sustainable. Should I pay 5 dollars for every one of the 100 mods I use? What if your mod is part of a compilation and only works / makes sense with other mods? why does your mod gets paid and the others not?

Oh man, the Archives.
I was completely unprepared too and got into it with a huge amount of souls saved. Managed to get out without losing them because I played extra cautious and probably got a bit lucky.
It was intense.
One of the gaming moments I'm probably not going to forget anytime soon.

Outriders is surprisingly good. The moment to moment gameplay is good, the loot upgrades feel big enough that I want to continue to play some more and the locales are varied enough that I am curious to see what's next. The most refreshing thing is that there is no GAAS nonsense shoved down my throat and I can presumably finish the game once and have a fully satisfying experience. The demo and Game Pass were brilliant marketing moves because I would have not gave this game another look otherwise.

Part 6 Jojo

Thought everyone in the anime thread should know.
Looks like I've missed 3 parts as I only watched the first and Stardust Crusaders and somehow never kept up with the next series.

What are the next ones and in what order to watch as anime series?

I'm only finding Diamond is Unbreakable and Golden Wind in my usual spot so I guess it's missing one to get 5 total, unless one of these 4 is considered 2-part.

Edit: seems like the original anime series is 2-part, including both Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency. And then it's the above two in order. Correct? Or?

Season 1 - Phantom Blood (1) + Battle Tendency (2)
Season 2 (technically 2 seasons I guess? it's like 50 episodes) - Stardust Crusaders (3)
Season 3 - Diamond is Unbreakable (4)
Season 4 - Vento Aureo (5)

And now the upcoming part 6.

Humble Bundle has got me putting all this anime into my basket. I'm pacing around my room trying to tell myself no.
Anything in particular with a good discount?
