This week friend of mine asked me to play Wofenstein Youngblood with him so i agreed. Oh boy it didn't take long for both him and me to get annoyed and pissed at game. As soon as we saw that game literally says to you that you should go and do side content first we knew that something is wrong. And basically most of the things were wrong, except level design. And that is not surprising because Arkane was involved. But honestly i don't know where to start with this game. Shooting feels bad, you get option for stealth but unless you get upgrade for throwable weapons it is pointless, enemy respawn (and spawn in general, you can go to one room see that there is nobody there, leave room and get attacked from behind because enemy spawned in that room). enemies that are weak to some types of ammunition can get annoying when you are forced to switch weapons in the middle of the fight. And so on and so on. Even those Brother bosses are really bad.

And they decided to make coop game where only way of communication with coop partner is basically voice chat and in our case Steam chat. There is no ping system, you can mark only 1 enemy (unless there is upgrade for more but i didn't see it so far) and there is no any interaction between partners outside those boosts/peps.

We will finish the game but i really don't know what they were thinking when they decided to make this game.
Remind me to not rapidly flip tabs between here and ResetEra, because I just got one of the nastiest cases of Deja Vu I've ever had.

Many things are now visible that were not before. OS support, depots names i think and things like that.
That data has been visible since day 1 when SOMEONE shared the token which gave us all access to that data.

They have been updating it regularly, nothing new to see just yet.

Maybe a silly question, but today I learned Alan Wake: Remastered is a thing that exists. But Steam only has regular AW?

A vtuber told me the remaster is 🥚 exclusive? Did I miss Epic buying Remedy or something?

What tetel said, it is at this moment EGS exclusive but there was a Steam string on Nvidia leak so, maybe it releases there too. We don't really know ^^

I can't believe cracked game torrents actually have weird launchers with mod tracker music.

I haven't followed up with it, but my understanding is that it's only a modest upgrade on PC. It's consoles where you get a big improvement since the original Alan Wake was sub-HD on the 360.

But Epic and Remedy have a publishing deal for a few games. Nobody owns Remedy, though Tencent has a small stake in the company.

wife and I are slowly making our way through it. Lots of problems compared to the main games, but i still like the gunplay and find the twins kind of dork-ily charming.

Serial gen music is a weird techno genre unto itself. i remember as a teenager there was one for Nero (remember Nero?) that was absolutely amazing. I'd open it just for the music and eave it open while browsing the web. that scene in the 90s and early 2000s was a weird time.

Just published by Epic. There was a Steam version in Nvidia leak though.

The presence of a Steam version in the leak doesn't mean a Steam release will happen. It could simply be a version that predates Epic's involvement. I'll assume anything they publish is a permanent EGS exclusive until proven otherwise.

I'm really surprised by the amount of banter they recorded for party members in Andromeda when riding the Nomad. There's a huge amount of unique dialogue for every possible combination of party members.
Not allowing the player to control their powers like in previous games is a baffling decision. I was also expecting more new alien races in my party.

I thought Epic was involved with both AW Remastered and AW 2 from scratch?

I honestly have no idea. Alan Wake 2 most definitely but since they own the IP I just figure it's entirely possible they started work on the remaster on their own. Unlike a completely new game, a remaster wouldn't necessarily be a prohibitively expensive undertaking that requires external funding.

Ghidorah is the author of that -6- themes. They’re called Toilet Story. xD

There are two other well-known songs

Maybe Remedy wanted to use an internal Steam version for testing purposes, since it's easier to distribute games that way to beta testers rather than expect them to use the EGS. Clearly Epic agreed.
I won't theorize about this :p

I have been pretty clear when it comes to the publishing label, IN MY OPINION, everything will come except the MP stuff, but that's me, most of you don't think so and that's ok, we will have to wait and see.

Talking about games being released on Steam, Is there any new new regarding ubisoft?
the last thing I remember was the possibility to release their games on if Steam Deck was successful. Any new statement about it?

No, nothing new to report and even if Steam Deck sells extremely well, what does Ubisoft understand as success? 1 million units in the wild? 10 million? 50? Those were the kind of words you use when you don't consider the coming back as a short-term strategy.

I agree with you on this. I can potentially see the initial phases being timed while they test the waters with the publishing deals.

otherwise Sweeney is leaving a fuck ton of money on the table.

They don't care what money they leave. Big reason why they are moving to publishing is because that way they can return their investment due to console sales. So as long as they break even they are fine. That is why I doubt ther any Epic Published game will come to Steam. They will get money back and still have exclusive to attract people to the Store.

1 - Hmm, random question. I seem to recall the first Amnesia having some gesture based movements with the mouse ? Like for opening a door you had to pull the mouse toward you ? Maybe ? It has been years.
Wouldn't playing A Machine for Pigs and Rebirth with a controller lessen the tension ?

Just trying to pinpoint where to play those, on the Desk or on the Deck.

2 - Similarly, if a game page on Steam doesn't mention controller support is it a clear 'NO CONTROLLER' sign or not ?
Again, trying to understand if I can play my new purchases on the Deck.
For reference, they are Night in the Woods, Norco and Strange Horticulture.

While they are not publicly traded, Epic is still obligated to maximise their ROI for their stakeholders.

If they can extract more cash from a game by releasing it on Steam down the line, they will be forced to, especially if their PC publishing strategy isn’t working.

It is not? We don't know this for sure, we know there was a string on Nvidia leak but we never got a string for Steam package at all (except if it was inside the game files) but AFAIK, while this might be true, we don't know if it is.

the counter to that is why would when anybody sign up to a publisher who is actively going to limit where people can purchase their. Yes the argument can be made that they will sweeten the deal with wedges of cash.

as a publisher they have a different duty than when they are just operating a store front.

however I won’t discount the fact that sweeney can be very self destructive.

China has started approving games for sale again after a 9 month freeze. As to how this relates to Steam, it may mean that the government might finally clamp down and close access. The Steam store has existed in a grey area for years, but was able to be easily accessed even without a VPN. Around last Christmas, it was reported that users couldn't easily access the store any more. As far as I know, just from reading poorly machine translated Chinese forums and looking at Great Fire Wall status sites, it hasn't been an outright ban, but users can't easily access the store without a VPN any more due to time outs. A potential ban would be a body blow to the platform as China makes up around 25% of the total userbase. It'll be interesting (and scary!) to see how it plays out.

There were actually rumors a few months ago that Epic may go public. I'd love to be able to read their financial statements outside of the trial. Also I kinda waver back and forth as to whether EGP titles will go on Steam. I think Tim knows there's money to be made, but he's so petty that he might refuse out of spite.

Because Epic is fully paying for project and offers better deal than other publishers (50/50 split after Epic recouping ther costs).

Regarding Ubisoft and coming back to Steam if the Deck is successful: If the Deck becomes super-successful, nothing stops them to make a shoddy Linux version of their launcher, slap Proton (it IS open-source, after all) onto it and keep their games off of Steam anyway. The same applies to Rockstar, Blizzard or whoever that has their own launcher. Most of these will run fine already in Linux anyway.

Regarding Epic published-titles: I really dont think Sweeney cares much about leaving money on the table, given how much money he's blown on his spite-project. As long as he's got endless Fortnite money, he doesnt need to worry about extra cash coming from Steam releases.

Not ruling out either, as weirder things have happened, however.

1: yes, Amnesia has these mechanics. And it plays just fine on the Deck, just tested it out. You have, as always, various community controller schemes, some with gyro which work really well. And instead of pulling the mouse towards you, you pull either thumbstick. Its honestly fine :)
However, its a very dark game, maybe too dark for the Deck. I found it annoying (not scary) to play without a latern (and latern oil is in short supply)
Rebirth I think has the same mechanics. I didnt test it because my Deck didnt have the space for it ;) and I'd rather forget Machine for Pigs existed.

2: Steam Input will most likely solve this issue for you! Use a community control scheme or set up your own :)

Feel like I've been bumbling around for a while now trying to find my next big time-sink.

Think I may have finally homed in on a nice candidate. Tomato strikes again, unearthing the gems and draining my bank account in the process.

I've heard Realms described as Terraria meets RuneScape/Skyrim. I think that fits well as it combines the crafting & building of Minecraft-likes with deep rpg leveling and npc-directed questing. It's a nice mix.

Presentation overall feels charming with goofy marionette-like character animations. Lots of graphic detail giving the world a lush feel. Soundtrack is ace.

Feels like there's a lot of meat on the bone with this one. Thumbs up so far.

So tired of the metaverse, seriously.
Both this and not looking forward to it kick starting another round of speculation of Epic x Sony partnership = exclusives. :flushed-face:

The metaverse stuff is quickly shaping up to be another venue for insufferable brand placement as an extension of what is occurring in some games today, but amped to 11. Definitely my old folk yelling at the clouds moment, but I worry for it as advertisers and marketers continue to look for ways to reach younger gens who have grown up with services that pay out of ads and/or have easily accessible means to block ads.

And how could a game with a name so great be that bad ?

I'm not really arguing, its reputation is really shitty.

I'm all for them companies investing heavily on the "Metaverse", most of it will crash and burn spectacularly, and will be funny to watch.

I'm curious to know how Epic is selling the idea tho', because we saw time and time again that most Fortnite kids won't play anything else, and Roblox and Minecraft has the creative space on lockdown.
