If you ask me I think that PS5 results (both software and hardware) had impact on accelerated PC releases. PS5 is selling well but due to manufacturing issues they are not at the place they wanted to be at this point. Then they raised te prices of their games and now they bumped console prices too. Add to that current inflation issues and other world issues software sales are probably down too. So they are pushing more PC releases to increase sale numbers. It is relatively cheap to port those games to PC and return on those investments is huge.

Sackboy feels little different, it probably has little different audience and doesn't really impact Sonys release schedule.
i am hoping that moving forward they will mix and match the big hitters (tlous, BBs, DeS, Sushima, Horizon 2 ,...) with the older stuff that needs second chance like pretty much every bluepoint remake, last guardian or gravity rushes

Sackboy is the first Sony port I'll buy (unless they do something really dumb from 15 years ago, that is, leaving out the local coop in the port; I doubt that).

Also a 4090 has almost 100 TFLOPS. And yet performance is nowhere near where I thought such a number would get us.
For some reason, I thought a card 5x more powerful than my 3070 would handle native 4k better, but we're still not there. I don't know if this is because gaming graphics are poorly optimized to utilize TFLOPS or because... what?
I'm not sure what you mean? It seems to perform about as I'd expect for the specs. It's 82.58 TF, a 3090 is ~40 TF running at the actual clocks it usually reaches in games, so that's pretty close to a factor of 2. And in GPU-limited games / settings it seems pretty close to that from the numbers we currently have.
It should be very capable of handling native 4k in a lot of games (though you probably wouldn't really want to do it because "Quality" DLSS will probably look at least as good at higher performance).

Maybe one reason for this impression is that NV chose to showcase some numbers for really extreme settings, i.e. the new higher-than-Psycho raytracing setting for Cyberpunk 2077. This obviously won't run well at native 4k, but it's also mostly designed as a proof of concept and to show off the specific improvements in RT perf compared to the previous generation.

Yeah maybe it's just how they chose to show it off so far. Idk, for some reason I just expected we'd be a lot further in graphics as we creeped closer to 100 TFLOPS.

Hell, I remember that dumb quote from Sweeny about 40 TFLOPS being needed for like-like real time graphics. But that seems VASTLY underestimated now. Unless he meant at like 1FPS?

How good is this game? I kind of stopped paying attention to the NFS franchise after Underground 2.
I've played it for a couple of hours but didn't like it at all. The story is crap, winning or losing depends more on car upgrades than driving skills and I found it difficult to see/predict the sharpness of upcoming corners. My advice is to play Hotwheels Unleashed instead if you want a decent arcade racer.

local coop was already working great (live switching between KB/gamepads) in the lionbridge test year ago (although i did manage to break it a bit by playing around with like 4 gamepads )

I think as time goes on, techniques like DLSS and even its new frame generation will just become the norm, and I think with those things you can already easily get 4K at 60 FPS even using complex global illumination techniques like path tracing on the 4090.
Frame generation aside, DLSS in many cases even improves fidelity over native.

It was such liberation when I got rid of all my physical games. But there are moment when I think how awesome it would be to have a library of those old pc boxes again.
Yeah, I tossed all my 2000-era big box PC releases. Kept the discs, though.

In retrospect, I wish I would have at least held on to the game manuals for nostalgia's sake.

I did wind up repurchasing the impeccable Homeworld manual from eBay. At 100 pgs. it's not the largest one out there (there's some real telephone-book sized ones in the flight-sim & wargame genres), but it's one of the best written. Hell, the first 40 pgs. are nothing but worldbuilding and lore.

Pretty nice package. You can even nab a .pdf copy at ModDB.

18th October - A Plague Tale: Requiem
19th October - Uncharted collection
21st October - New Tales from the Borderlands
21st October - Persona 5 Royal
21st October - Gotham Knights
25th October - Victoria 3
27th October - Sackboy
28th October - Modern Warfare 2 (and this will actually start sucking up oxygen on the 21st when the campaign releases)

And then there are some other notable things releasing around this time like Potionomics, RE8 DLC, Star Ocean 6, Scorn and probably more.

There are going to be winners and losers in those couple of weeks. If I had to guess, I'd say Modern Warfare, P5 and Vicky will be winners and Gotham and the Sony games will be the losers.

The youngins around here are wondering what the shit is a telephone book :thinking-face: :p

Deadeye is my big Oct. release, and generally one of my more anticipated releases of the year based on my time with the demo.

Stealth infiltration action with terminal entry coding and a subversive tone.

Flat Eye is my runner-up. I'll likely check in on the reception first though.

Vicky 3 is probably my top highlight of the Big Boy releases. But the last few PDX drops have taught me to wait at least a few months post-launch before diving in proper as that gives them the runway to iron out the post-launch kinks and user feedback. Pretty hyped either way though.
