Dark Souls 2's online features have been reactivated.
Also the online features for the original release of Dark Souls (2012) are not going to be reactivated, only the remaster will be reactivated.

Yay or nay for Red Dead 2 if I only can play it on the deck? I have it on xbox but it's stuck on 30fps because they refuse to update it for next gen. And if they will do it then I imagine they won't give it out as a patch and will sell it for full price.

Given the strong USD relative to a lot of other currencies, it was only a question of time for Valve to update the recommendations.
While the increases are pretty bad, they are still below 1:1 parity, from what I can see in many cases, like the Argentinian Peso. I just hope Valve disallows increases that push regional currencies above the literal 1:1 translation.

Even if it is (much) higher than the previously recommended pricing in some regions, the reality is, that most publishers price it even much much higher.

I think the goal is, that some publishers now use the recommended pricing because it is more in line with their own "reality"
yup most of major pubs already price it hugher than the new recommendations anyway .... i bet this will majorly affect sales of indies though

fun fact about the new regional pricing: they're updating ALL of the prices, retroactively

so if some old game used the default pricing (which is, like, the vast majority of the store outside the big publishers) - they will ALL be updated to the new one (probably in the next few hours), some already have been! Here's Half-Life 2 for example:

so no, it's not just for new stuff, it's for EVERYTHING

They cannot legally change the price of some other company's product. Half Life 2 increased because Valve implemented their new pricing recommendation. It won't automatically happen for every game. However, you will see some devs increase their old prices to match the new recommendations. It's already happening and SteamDB has a page tracking those prices increases here - https://steamdb.info/pricechanges/

technically they aren't increasing the prices - in USD, just adjusting the recommendations

and i'm 99% sure all those tracked changes are automatic, because it's not just volvo stuff, and they are being changed to EXACTLY the recommended values, so it's not being done manually by the devs either

The blogpost mentions that they were going to change the pricing of THEIR games, Is there any non-valve game affected by that ? (Though, I don't doubt some would use the chance to raise the price).

yeah, plenty, check the link in spindoctor's post - seems like an automated change to me

as in: if the devs were using the recommendations across the board, those are being updated automatically

Nope, it is being done manually by developers. They are changing their prices from Valve's old recommended pricing to the new recommended pricing.

There is no chance in hell that it would be legal for Valve to change price of some other company's product unilaterally. If that was indeed happening then ALL the regional priced games would have already changed to the new prices. That clearly hasn't happened.

well, i guess we'll see about that, but i think it just takes a while to update all the prices, so we'll probably find out in a few hours

Yeah, that seems more likely to me.

It might take time to get indexed on SteamDB but the price changes would be instant on Steam. That has not happened. Americans are asleep right now. I expect game prices from them to start going up in 8-10 hours from now.

Devs are just hurrying to change prices before time window closes.

I think there's just few hours left, if you want to get changes in before sale season.

Since changes need to be approved by Valve too.
Yeah I was just coming to post this. Changing a price now will exclude the game from being in a sale for a month. And the halloween sale is supposed to start today or tomorrow. So maybe some devs will hold off on changing for a while. Maybe.

Uh, I started The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker on Deck yesterday (more on that later). AFAIK it's the linux version, as I have to force the use of 'steam linux runtime' or the game crashes or doesn't render video. Is there a way to copy the save to my windows install of the game ?

You can manually access your saves via the Steam website.

You can download the files from there, and then you need to put them in the right place manually. You can use PCGamingWiki to see where the game wants its save games to be.

Thanks Mivey that looks easy enough for even lazy me to do.
Then again, the fact that I will have to do it in reverse every time is kinda making me not bother.

I suppose I could use the app that shares a location between machines to do it automatically. What was it called, Sync ? But I don't know how much the rest of you know about laziness (I'm an expert), but...

I’ve heard of an app for Windows/Linux called Ludusavi that backs up and restores PC game saves.

I don’t know how involved the process is as I’ve never used it, but in theory you could sync the backup folder (either by cloud or Syncthing) and then have it restore to the right place on each device.

That said, I haven’t seen it in action so I don’t know what the limitations are, but it sounds like a good solution for games that don’t use Steam cloud or use it badly.

I’ve been thinking of using it for some of my non-Steam games that I want to sync the saves for. If I get around to setting it up I’ll post something here.

Indie F-Zero looks like some exciting fun and gameplay wise probably even the best so far as anti gravity racers always seem to get something wrong.

But I can't help but feel weird that an all new game can't even look as good as a now almost 20 year old title that probably wasn't anywhere near some AAA budget. Why are the tracks almost just the actual track with different colors and backgrounds to differentiate them and next to no other elements to them, the GX tracks were so cool with their varied themes and unique atmospheres and everything and even back then (for some reason) the game was at times almost panned for sacrificing detail to have that blazing fast gameplay on GameCube. Also, weird, I tried to find good quality attract mode videos on youtube and it's hard, some are of some glitchy AX or otherwise emulated version, others are stretched widescreen, 30fps, etc., I guess the game is not that popular, then or now. Anyway, Aero GPX looks like it ignores this existed and is trying to ape the look of games that did make sacrifices for the hardware, like 64, but without actually looking retro in any way which is something BallisticNG gets right. Still, this looks cool to play and I'll try it when it comes. Actually this sort of fantasy racer is the only I play when I don't have interest in anything resembling actual cars which I'd only play with a wheel setup I've been unable to invest in etc.

Anyway, like I said earlier, more about The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker.

It's a FMV game where you play a new psychiatrist who takes over the late Doctor Dekker, recently assassinated. And your job is to meet Dekker's patients, try to help them and also learn more about the death of your colleague.
So yeah, as a game, it more or less miserably fail at what it tries to do to separate itself from other FMV games. The big idea is that you can, in theory, type your own questions for the patients. In practice, and while it doesn't lack merit, well, it's shit. It's pretty apparent that the parser or whatever it's called is not up to so ambitious a task. So a lot of 'I don't understand what that means' replies from the patients. Some incredibly logical things you try to say were apparently not planned for too. So yeah, by that point you stop giving a shit about the gimmick and just use the suggested sentences the game throws at you. It clearly make the whole thing super on rail and I suspect more monotonous than other games in the genre. Butttt it's not shit.

Because the characters and writing are interesting enough.
Each patient is more... troubled, than the last for one. And it doesn't take long to see some connections between them and, as the main art of the game hints to, some tentacled fun.

I really liked my time with the game yesterday. Every patient has either a super mysterious issue or is just plain creepy. A really interesting game for the season if you like the genre.

Though as much as I liked what I played, there is no denying that the game main gameplay idea is a failure and it can become monotonous. On that point, after more than two hours of play I saw I was at 39% with 200+ questions asked. Knowing that the game had a Guinness for having 7 hours of video and 1000 questions, the risk of it outstaying its welcome is high.

Will depend on the frequency at which the game throws interesting scenes at me.

PS. Oh yeah the actors are good in my mind. I saw some critics but apart from the secretary who seem to overplay her acting far too much, it's a good time. Was pretty happy to see that the dev seems to hire some of their actors back for each new game. Solid.

What’s TxF?

Transactional NTFS (TxF) allows file operations on an NTFS file system volume to be performed in a transaction. TxF transactions increase application reliability by protecting data integrity across failures and simplify application development by greatly reducing the amount of error handling code.
In short: Either the data is saved or not.

It's the first time in my life I've heard about this existing

Both out ^^ now.
a little off topic but I'm curious who are on european PlayStation release administration because it's been some weeks they take a lot to appear on "new games" according with european time zone. It's been usual since PS5 release date but now it's exaggerated.

People are managing to find Uncharted AMD Promo keys for 15 Euros and i can only find 304 at best XD

Also in past few weeks i upgraded my 3D printer a bit (new PEI bed plate, new Capricorn Bowden tube, new all metal extruder parts, bed leveling sensor and new bed leveling springs)

That new gold PEI Bed Plate is probably best upgrade i could do to this printer. No cleaning, prints stick great and it is way easier to remove them compared to glass one that came with the printer.

Likely some ancient code, done by someone overly worried about data loss and no care about the quality or maintainability of their code

Ironically, due to these patches, Proton and therefore Linux might be able to run these games for longer than Windows, if MS really does drop the support for that API at some point
