To cloud or from cloud? I don't think you can easily sync to cloud without installing the game, maybe if you run a game through SAM, Steam might get tricked to downloading the saves.
If it's the other way around, SAM might trick an upload, but if it doesn't, you should be able to always grab any cloud saves from Sign In .

Ludusavi is another option for saves, I used it when I installed Win11 on a new nvme maybe a month ago. I don't know if it's better than GameSave Manager but it worked great for me.
For Steam games, just grab the entire steamapps folder from where your library is, or libraries are if you have multiple library locations. Then when you reinstall on the fresh windows install, just make the library location again, shut steam down and paste the whole steamapps folder back in its place and the games should be there when you start steam back up.
Though you didn't ask, I should say that C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\ folder is also good to backup before a fresh install. A bunch of local game specific userdate live there, stuff like local Steam screenshots, maybe saves etc.

Absolutely no clue about gamepass games though.
When I finished Wateland 3 my saves didn't upload to the cloud for some reason. I uninstalled the game but seems like I'll have to install it again just to backup the saves. Should've kept the game installed until I could sync the saves.

Remember that there are a couple hours left on this giveaway :)

~

also I received 5 friend requests on Steam today, all from a level 0 "Playerunknowins Battlegrounds" with the same avatar image (the game logo). I didnt take a screenshot then but when I wanted to do that now, all these friend requests had reverted to random people. So Im guessing a scammer got them and they got their accounts restored now – Im bringing this up in case there is a scam wave making the rounds; be vigilant (always) :)

Folks, I finished SIGNALIS yesterday and it was an incredible game, and this coming from someone who isn't a fan of the survival horror genre. I know it takes inspiration from various games and media like older Resident Evil games, Silent Hill series and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The RE inspiration is mainly noticeable in its inventory system, being able to carry only six items made really conscious about what I was picking or carrying, though you're always unlocking shortcuts to the save points. Reading the notes and paying attention is essential to solve mostly of the puzzles, and once you solve them get that feeling of "I'm smart".

The way the enemies looks and moves were clearly taking inspiration from SH, though you can pass unnoticed by mostly of them, just don't run or use your lantern/radio near them. Still talking about the enemies, one of the revelations you get quite early in game is that they can come back to life so you need to burn them, but the item used for it is rare and it kept tense every time I had to pass through a room I didn't burned down the enemies.

Aesthetically the game is a love letter to the PSX era, there is a CRT filter option you can enable that I liked and used it for part of my play through. The illumination is superb, just watch the gif bellow:

GIF from IGN Africa

The OST can be relaxing and unnerving at the same time, some songs sounds like they were made by hitting things. The enemies screaming when noticing you always made me feel nervous even though I knew I could just run and outpace them.

I got the Memory ending and I watched the other endings, and I'm still trying to process what the fuck was going on so I'll probably read and watch some videos theorizing about the lore, but meanwhile I read that text from Paste Magazine (beware spoilers) and was an interesting analyze of some themes from the game.

10 million players is the more impressive metric IMO, especially since last year had the one two punch of Elden Ring and Lost Ark. Goose Goose Duck is also >600k CCU and is doing a ton of heavy lifting.
I agreed.

The player stat was big before due to PUBG, so it means that people are playing many more games today.

Big fan of open source and having a CLI so thanks for the tip on Ludusavi! Going to use that instead of GSM this time.

finished NMH3 on the Spicy difficulty, gonna get back to it in some time to get through it 100% later

but for now, not-gaming related time in smaller text and different font so you know it's not a mandatory read
this semester, I think I'l try to get a little better grades - this entire time I never actually cared much for them, they were mostly a last-second type thing, I basically procrastinated on all of them and never gave it good elbow grease throughout the semester, which worked out fine at the start when I got my many B's, but with my previous semester amounting up to two C's, a E and an unavoidable F, my ego's a bit down and I'd like to have my average grade of B back, not a mediocre average of C (even though it has no role in the end as my master's degree allows anyone with a C or higher average grade to enter)
It'll totally be harder than before, with these being advanced topics and shit, but that's what work is for, and I don't find it really challenging, just fucking time-consuming

Anteater About Dragon Quest XI 100%, do you remember if there was any missable ones? Or should I just play it for fun and at the end try to clean up the achievements?
I don't remember there were missables in terms of achievements, I did a quick search and people said there weren't, so probably safe to do it in your own pace.

I got all the achievements and never used a guide until the very end so I don't think anything is missable. Post game has important story points rather than just super bosses like a lot of jrpgs so I would advise against skipping it.

To be honest this isn't anything new, and if anything the news is good because it means it hasn't gotten even longer than it already is.

Both horizon 1 and god of war 2018 had roughly 7 year cycles. Now that obviously doesn't mean it was in full production that whole time but that is when the director (and probably a few leads) first sat down to iron out the very beginnings of the project. I believe cyberpunk and RDR 2 also fit into similar time frames. FF16 by the time it's out will qualify as well since I believe schreier said it was first started after Heavensward came out which was in 2016. So even if you want to be lenient and say it started in 2017 that's still 6.5 years by the time it comes out in June.

As i said before for many studios issue is that they are not efficient. They would often go back and forward during pre-production and production, rebooting things and changing things based on demands from higher ups. They would also often spend a lot of time on stupid things like cramming in as many currencies as they can in game (or crafting materials) and then spending tons of time balancing things for no reason (i mean we all know reason, make game as confusing as possible so it is easier to just go and buy resource packs as MTX). And things like that. CP2077 wasn't almost decade in development because they were making sure that game is polished, full of things to do and engaging. It spent almost decade in development because they didn't know what to do, changed direction multiple times and rebooted game multiple times. In comparison you can see where time was spent in RDR2 but even with that i can bet that they wasted at least 20% of time on rebooting smaller things and changing things that didn't need to be changed just because.

This year will probably be RPG year for me, or in general longer games year. i intend to replay Mass Effect 2 and finally play Mass effect 3 (i have Legendary Edition and last year i replayed ME1), maybe play Mass Effect andromeda, play Dragon Age Inquisition, replay GTA V, play Dying Light 2, if they fix Witcher 3 maybe do replay of that, maybe play Stalker games for the first time or simply just jump into Stalker 2, finish Gotham Knights, play Hogwarts Legacy that i got for Christmas, maybe finish Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLCs, if Assassin's Creed mirage is good i will play that too, Star Wars Jedi Survivor is day 1, maybe play Fallout 4...

This year in gaming I'll do as I do every year.
Claim at the start of a month "not much for me" - during the month I'll buy lots of things - at the end of the month realise I haven't played even half of them.
Maybe at the end of the year I'll be at 30% played if that.

Yeah inefficiency is definitely part of the problem. In ff16's case I'm wagering a huge reason why it has taken 7 years is because of the engine they're using which is a modified ffxiv one. The team being familiar with it doesn't really matter that much when it's just not a good engine (the ffxv/forspoken team and luminous engine is an even better example of this). By comparison the FF7R team will have made 2 games in the same time span that 16 has taken to come out, and that's including the 2 years of work CC2 wasted on FF7 Remake. But it really shows what a difference a good engine makes versus a crappy one in development time.

Amazing if true, hopefully not a 4xxx gen exclusive
Lol if you believe they won't lock it to the current gen only.
Also, I imagine this will be the driver that will disable Gamestream and Shadowplay, because poor baby NVIDIA can't afford paying $0.25 licensing fees for each person using these...

Im actually having fun with Back 4 Blood. Not as good and replayable as L4D2, but still a decent game.
