Is it a bad idea to play the first Octopath? I know the sequel is apparently better in every way, but Im still very interested in playing the first one first. The sequel will probably be on a deep sale by the time Im done with the first game lol.

Have had my first "why the hell is this marked as Verified??" moment on Deck

Playing Spirit Hunter Death mark, by no means a demanding game either, but:
some scenes were showing far too dark
some weren't displaying at all and were just a black screen
the game then just straight up crashed back to the Deck menu

Looking over at ProtonDB lots of reports that it basically just about doesn't work on Deck :dizzy-face:

Not at all, the game is good. Yes, Octopath 2 is better but in an iterative way, it's not transformative.
I assume it is smarter if you wanna play both games to play the first one first otherwise if you play the second and then the first, the first will feel worse.

Not significantly so. I wouldn't say there was anything about Octopath Traveler that significantly detracted from the experience that II improved on. That said, II is an all around better game just from the quality of the writing and a few small gameplay tweaks. But nothing major.

I think they are by and large the same game in many ways, so I think it's fine to play them backwards. I'd say going back to Persona 4 after playing 5 is a bigger jump, and I think that's a perfectly fine order to play those games, so I think no one has anything to worry about with Octopath.

Did you get the "hey, does this game actually work on Deck" popup?

On the other hand, Trails to Azure is "unsupported", but has specific Deck button prompts, gets 5 hours of battery life, and has a large UI setting for Deck. And it doesn't crash (knock on wood :p)

On the third hand, Kuro no Kiseki has very tiny text in some menus, but is fully verified.

Another question, how is Nier Replicant? It's half off.
If you've played Automata it takes some of the improvements of that game brings them back to Replicant.

But it's still NieR - much of the structural cruft of the original game (repetitiveness, back and forth questlines, general tedium of replaying the game over and over to get the endings) still applies, but the improved gameplay systems makes it more bearable.

It's a solid 7-8/10 but nothing on its sequel.

From what I remember, the game had some issues with higher framerates (and systems that run it in VRR/G-Sync/FreeSync) and animation/combat speed, but I believe there was a community fix pretty quickly, and SE might've even patched it by now.

Overall a decent if not brilliant port.

I still think Square Enix are going to use KH4 hype to launch all the other games on Steam.

If they do another KH4 event with no Steam release then we can chalk it up to Square Enix being incompetent or there being a different deal.

But in the meantime, given all the other games have made their way over, I’m assuming SE are free to release it on Steam but are choosing not to.

Yep it's strange how unreliable it can be. Cities Skylines for example, is Playable but crashes for me wherever I load a city.

I also spotted the unsupported "Sons of the Forest" in Valves "100 most played games on steam Deck" list, which is a bit funny.

Valve praised the system in the anniversary video, but it surely has room for improvement, even if it's generally good.

Btw Durante, ive seen some developers add a note to the unsupported label, which then linked to a thread in the steam forums where they'd explain what's up-maybe you can do that too?
(I would have to search for an example)

I would say so, yeah, although it's not a massive difference. If you haven't bought either yet, definitely start with Octopath 1.

Another question, how is Nier Replicant? It's half off.
I reviewed that too, It's pretty ok but the gameplay and visuals do feel dated. Cool story, interesting characters and world, some neat ideas but a lot of fetch quests and grinding. This is how I concluded my review:

So putting all the above together, my position on Nier Replicant is as follows: It clearly has enough good elements to justify a purchase and at least one playthrough, but only die-hard fans of the Nier universe and players with an extremely high tolerance for repetition and monotonous quests will find enough value in the game to justify a full-price purchase and the multiple playthroughs required to fully unfold the plot.

Sometimes, unsupported really means unsupported:
But more often than not it mean 'whoever was assigned the review just didn't give a fuck'

Grisaia was what pushed me into dual boot on Deck route, it's really really broken. Only issue with Clannad OTOH is that the opening movie doesn't play, and on first boot you will need to kill the game. Works fine on subsequent runs

So it definitely isn't happening when it makes sense to.

God damn, that sega sale at gamebillet is really tempting me but I can barely afford to buy RE4 as it is.

Finished Wasteland 2, great stuff. Gonna focus on my TW3 replay until RE4 is out. Kinda forgot how buggy this game is, traversal on the horse can be a struggle.
It's also such a massive game, I wonder how many lines Geralt's VA recorded for this, shit's insane.
But yeah, replaying it all these years later reminded me why it's one of my favorites of all time. Pretty much a dream come true for any fan of the books.

My sale haul so far:

Sniper Elite 5
Octopath Traveler
Cultic
Pizza Tower
Lunistice
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - Commander Edition
Paper Beast
Scorn
Know by Heart
Lego Builder's Journey
The Falconeer
High on Life
Spark The Electric Jester Pack (1,2,3)
Mail Mole
Project Warlock 2

Still heavily considering Nier Replicant (tried arrr verison and liked it), Crash 4 (so I can ignore my Battlenet and Playstation versions, got both of them as promos so never paid for it lol, but really liked the game), A Space for the Unbound and Beacon Pines at least.

However, I plan to day 1 Stranger of Paradise and maybe RE4R, so don't know what I will do.

It's a time problem, not a money problem.

I definitely recommend it.
When it comes to visuals and gameplay it's decent enough.
OST might be the best to ever appear in a game.
As for the story, it's by far the strongest aspect but be aware that you'll need to replay the second half once and the final dungeon a total of 4 times to get the full plot.
You'll also be asked to aquire all weapons in the game which is a tedious task.
Unlike the original though, you are rewarded with a completely new gameplay segment, not just additional endings.
But yeah, despite being a brilliant game as a whole, these things may be off-putting to you.

Dev build is receiving constant updates.

Valve filed a trademark for CS2.

It's coming. Richard Lewis said the end of March or first of April.
So they are going with the CS2 name. huh.

If its an actual new game then CSGO will be CS1 and still be played by millions for years until people transition over to 2. It would take a while for 2 to become a full fledged game. I would guess 2-3 years in beta.

I could see both CSGO and CS2 have 1 million concurrent at same time lol.

Also its consistent and simpler for them to have 2 across the board for everything. The commitment is there. :sneaky:

Man i wish your Steam wishlist would go back to the same point when you add some thing to cart and go back to it.
or better yet - just add the game to the cart without leaving the current page at all
You can do the second thing (not leave the page) with Augmented Steam on a browser. It's under Store -> General -> Prevent Redirection When Adding Items to Cart. Works on store pages and wishlist but I think it's disabled by default? I basically don't do any of the actual store stuff in the client because Augmented is just significantly better, and faster.

Oh it’s 100% CSGO changing name/engine infrastructure. They wouldn’t maintain both simultaneously.

One of these days I'll figure out what you do for a living to be able to afford all the stuff you buy.
I'm also intrigued how you find the time to play them but one thing at the time... the money enigma first.
My guess is that you're an oil baron baby

Noelopan once said: Never ascribe to incompetence that which is adequately explained by malice.
Wouldn't be surprised if it is some strange Disney requirement.

it stays on the same page by the way of reloading the page, which is not ideal, sadly :(

I noticed it does that on the store pages, but when I was adding stuff from my wishlist it seemed to just keep do something magic and wasn't changing my place or anything. I was doing that in the sale this week.

Where are you guys buying Resident Evil 4? 60 euros is super steep for a remake of a game I already played and will play only once.

GGDeals says they're legit. They currently have the best price for RE4 on their UK site. Was going to get it from CDkeys but they raised the price.
