I feel like the only person in existence who isn't hyped for Starfield at all. Open world stuff in general doesn't appeal to me.
I know the feeling

I’m very cautious, I want it to be good but Fallout 4 was crap so I can’t say I’m all too eager to jump right in again with trusting Bethesda

I'm interested in Starfield but it's absolutely not a day 1 for me. I want to see how the performance is, modding scene is, and what the actual gameplay / story amounts to. I want something better than FO4 because I love the Fallout setting and I couldn't be bothered to finish that.

Been watching it, its kind of like Ace Combat..with a better UI.

Also is there a time limit in Disco Elysium? I been playing it and I have no idea where to spend my skill points when I leveled up.

I am also getting anxiety over maybe missing something.

Looking forward to solid ultrawide support in upcoming From Software games, like they just delivered in Armored Core VI! Mouse and keyboard controls work good as well.

The game would have looked so much better with DLSS, though ... There are plenty of sharp square shapes in the first level that the inbuilt anti-aliasing handles badly.

I got into Darkest Dungeon 2 again and the funny thing is, I'm not good at either this or its predecessor. I think my Achilles' heel is that I don't pay much attention to character and skill synergies. I'm still having fun losing though!

Armored Core is LEGIT!
Just did tutorial and it is really good. Mix of AC3 and AC4 pace. The initial sword weapon is satisfying to hit, almost like a Elden Ring/Souls magic sword.

On optimization end, its a toss if your PC runs it 100% well or have shutters all over. Mine is latter (Ryzen 5 3500U, GTX 1650)
Getting 30fps on menus and even drops during AC customization. Not sure about the cause.
AC6 JPN or ENG VA?

Which should I choose?
FROMSOFT games always had stellar ENG VA IMO. Go for that.

Ok so I knew the game was going to be good, but it looks quite fun. Never played AC or mecha games, but feeling like I'd enjoy it a lot. Might end up getting it to play over the weekend.

I enjoy good open world, but I won't fall for Todd's "lies" (marketing).

Unless there is a substantial experience (like great writing of Disco Elysium, lore/worldbuilding of FROMSOFT RPGs, player agency of DOS/BG3), it is going the be the same cookie-cut action RPG as their previous game.

BGS quality has been going down game-by-game and lot of original devs have left the studio.
I expect a good game, from a studio that used to make classics.

Microsoft fucking gave up and kneeled before Larian because of the massive success of BG3
I think Swen carefully and diplomatically explained that 8GB of shared RAM is simply not enough and will never be enough for split screen BG3 and if they ever want to have the game on Xbox, they will have to drop that requirement.

It is a unique sitation though, since there are almost no other games with splitscreen these days. And definitely no RAM-heavy RPGs.

Also supports PlayStation button prompts if you have a PS controller connected. Based on what I've heard and seen from gameplay videos and other people's thoughts (I need to get around to buying the game, because funds have been strapped for me for a bit), just wish this port fixed some of the CPU-bound related issues (Especially on the Steam Deck, where 60FPS could be possible, but there's too many dips to 40FPS), had a HUD deadzone option (for those playing on a 32:9 monitor for example), and offered an unlocked FPS option.

Great that AC6 supports arbitrary resolutions though (outside of cutscenes and menus, which is understandable). How is 16:10 behavior? Does that expand the top and bottom rather than cropping the sides?

But so far, far better than the state that Elden Ring is still in.

Radeon 7800 XT (16GB) and 7700 XT (12GB) announced, 7800 XT is $500/550€ and 7700 XT is $450/490€.

The 7800 XT seems to be interesting for its price, being better or worse than the 4070 depending on the game and depending on RT, though I think it may not be alot better than the 6800 XT?
The 7700 XT though, to me feels like it's the same situation as the 7900 XT vs XTX, the price difference between 7700 XT and 7800 XT seems to be way too small.

I wonder. what the thought process is for determining release dates...

BG3, AC6, MK1, & Starfield all release in mid-August, early September.

I'm puzzled by it, and more than a little vexed, truth be told. That's the worst possible time for me; from mid-August on I'm not only back at work, but drowning under internship defenses and reports to grade, exams (retakes), juries, and all the various unadulterated administrative joys of a new school year.

What puzzles me is that I don't think that timetable is at all atypical. Most people in Europe take their vacations sometime in July and August. As far as I know, that's true for most parts of the US as well.

If that's correct, why on Earth release games just as most people go back to work, instead of, say, late June, early July, just before they have oodles of quality free time? How are there so many people playing BG3 all the way through? Are there large markets with vacations in September? Or are release dates more or less random ("when it's done") and I am just getting the illusion that this is a specially dense period of releases because, by pure chance, games I'm personally interested in happen to release back to back?

Historically, end of August (basically September) to beginning of December has been the best time for games.

I'm sure they have many metrics, but partly it is because during holidays (be it summer or winter) most people leave the house, not stay in to play games. Regardless of what we might think, videogames still can't compete with real life out there. For boxed products, Madden releasing at the end of August had always signified the beginning of the highest selling stretch for games, ending during the first days of December (again, one would think Christmas is a great period for games, but they are competing with actual Christmas. Most games avoid launching around that time if possible).

Whether this is an American-centric viewpoint that has spread everywhere, that has to do with whatever competes vs big game releases, be it sports leagues, TV shows, or other entertainment forms I can't say, but there's a reason for it. Big games moving out of November into September was seen as a successful move at some point, and straggles moved towards February-April period proved successful too at some point, once sept-nov window became too crowded.

I think games could be stretched out all year long for enthusiasts, but the industry loves their windows, and for the most part they're proven right. As long as it's the right game.

Heresy!

Balderdash! Blasphemy!

Dramatic indignation aside, this is most likely the answer, and blindingly obvious in retrospect.

In hindsight, the fact that a student did not show up this morning for his retake exams because he was "excessively sunburnt" should have reminded me of the existence of the Vast Outside (tm).

When I taught elementary/high-school, the amount of kids who would come back and share their summer stories of just staying in and playing videogames was incredibly low. I found it surprising as well.

These are the same kids who would skip school (sometimes not even a fake sick note) when a game they liked came out, miss homework or bring their consoles to school and use the classroom TV when we had off time at every opportunity.

When I asked them why, I was expecting it to be due to pressure from their parents, but in general it was a family trip or sports with friends or just hanging out. Maybe it changes with generations or as people age and responsibilities change, but overall yeah, I guess we all still need some sunlight every now and then.

i just realized that 3D printing is basically just like PC gaming. You spend a ton of time tweaking things to enjoy best results possible. especially if you are idiot like me and don't save previous calibration settings for 3D printer and you need to do it all over again because new firmware installation XD And yes that happened to me on both Pc (BIOS settings) and with 3D printer XD But damn when you tweak everything just right results are glorious XD

$450 for the 7700XT.
Really would have preferred a $300 or under GPU. I hope the rumors about the upcoming $150 Intel Arc GPU matching RX 7600 performance is true, that would be the GTX 750Ti of this generation, although it came a few years later than expected.

Who’d have thought AMD would get positive reaction if they made a product that actually competed?
The FSR 3 for all DX11 and DX12 games bit via updated drivers part of AMD's conference is especially interesting. I really hope that they release the DX11 SDK for FSR that they've been holding behind a sales representative contact. Would be neat to see DX11 games get mods that add FSR support, and with the amount of flawed DX12 implementations out there, maybe it would be safer for some developers to stick to DX11.

FSR 3 seems neat but I hope it is treated like sample and hold black frame insertion rather than sold as a optimization shortcut or a GPU seller from game publishers looking to rush out game releases. SpecialK's BFI with the ultra low latency stuff is effectively similar to what DLSS 3 hopes to achieve minus the extra frames being interpolated in, instead black frames are inserted in between each real frame. This should only really be used to minimize the display's sample and hold motion blurring on LCDs at low framerates. Part of the reason you'd want a higher framerate is for more responsive controls.

My opinion is that it should only be really an option on consoles for those looking to use a 120Hz display or something, because hopefully then, it won't be used as a crutch for game optimization.
