I'm honestly not too thrilled about this remake being so successful.

In my mind, if you ask for 70 € (!!) for a remake, you must at the very least include all content from all previous versions of a game. And it certainly shouldn't be paid DLC.

Personally, I would be moderately interested in the game if it included that MC, since I only played the PS2 version. As-is, I'm not interested at all (I don't replay RPGs or really any story-driven games in general).

Persona 3 Reload peak concurrent players so far is between Persona 5 Royal and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth:

I think some of us were questioning why Sega would release two JRPGs a week apart.

I think we have the answer now. Glad to be wholly and categorically wrong about P3R - I thought it was gonna surpass P5R but not Infinite Wealth, but once the weekend roles along that number is going to inflate.

I wonder if FF16 will even get half of the Persona 3/Infinite Wealth concurrent players (FF7 remake didn't). :toucan:

On a different note, I also wonder how high Dragon's Dogma 2 will reach.
Well FF15 had almost 30k. So if 16 were to go below that... Well, good job, lol.
For what it's worth I don't think it will leave a big impact. The game's already out of the "hype" period and actually seems to be pretty divisive and not a "cult classic" arriving fashionably late.
And Final Fantasy on PC doesn't really have big brand cachet to fall back on either, thanks to Square's efforts.
I'm very curious in any case.

Anime games have been on quite the win streak lately. So many different releases breaking concurrent and steam sales records. Some even breaking unspeakable all time records.

Its a very concerning development.

The industry needs to monitor this data carefully.
I feel like that train left the station. Genshin is estimated to have broken $5 billion on mobile (without Android revenue from China) alone a couple days ago. If you add CN Android, PC + PlayStation revenue it's gonna be well past $10 billion.
Anime has won!

---
In other anime news, I started Cold Steel 3 yesterday. Boy did it feel good to be back and I'm already glad I waited until the Crossbell games were out, cause in the Prologue alone I'm already getting giddy whenever I see a familiar faces from there (and Sky too!).
But my eyes rolled into the back of my head when they had to repeat the god damn stupid "they fell into a hole and one of the main girls lands on a guys face with her boobs" scene.

This is how I felt last night when it launched. I didn't feel outright disgust at this or yakuza selling so well but I definitely felt a bit uncomfortable with how happy everyone was.

$70 for a remake that cuts content out to be sold later and visually it still doesn't look great, like they didn't RE4 or FF7R this or anything. I'm ok with a lower end remake but $70 is a tall order. I'd feel the same way if this rumored FF9 remake is $70 too.

As for yakuza it's now also $70 and the series still cost cuts and reuses content (again not talking about assets, I mean actual content) like crazy. Again not the worst thing a gaming company has done but it did make me feel a little confused, like "should we be rooting for this as hard as we are?". That's not even mentioning how scummy sega is getting with this series with the MTX and withholding modes to even more expensive editions.

SEGA's recent monetization practices have been pretty awful in general, but despite that I'm still happy about the success of LaD8 and P3R, because we went from SEGA's PC releases being sparse and late, to PC releases being both on the same day as consoles and also on the same day as Japan.

The general consensus was correct: Terminator: Resistance is a really solid "AA" shooter. RoboCop: Rogue City is even better. I am re-watching the original movie now and it's really putting into perspective just how amazing their attention to deal is. I will be there day 1 for both RoboCop DLC and whatever project they do next. I am hoping they do another action movie franchise like Die Hard.

I hope nvidia does a RTX 4000 Super game bundle at some point for a game I want, it would be easier to justify buying a new GPU.

"B-But Kyougar! this doesn't come from TPG!"
Yeah...

Even if the buddy-buddy connections between PR and agencies aren't nudging things:

TPC should make a statement that this is silly, that they won't blacklist anyone just because they play another game, regardless of their stance to other companies.
TPC can only lose in this situation if they let this stand, people already are talking about how Palworld is the better creature-catching game, if the public also sees companies trying to bury the success of Palworld behind the scenes, it will only strengthen the argument.

Persona 3 Reload is primarily meant for the audience that got into the series with Persona 5. Atlus has said as much. Outside of the improved graphics and a few new scenes, there isn't much there for older fans. I can see why people would be turned off by it if they had played the original as it doesn't have a unique spin like Resident Evil 4 or go completely off the rails like Final Fantasy 7.

Yeah it is awesome. I played Resistance at launch and enjoyed it a lot, but it had some issues with difficulty balancing (it was too easy even on hardest), I read they rebalanced it in patches so I need to replay it (also for the Annihilation Line and Infiltrator DLCs, which I did not play yet).
Robocop was my third best game last year, only behind Jagged Alliance 3 and Baldur's Gate 3. Just splendid. Murphy was so great, even Weller's voice acting was enjoyable as heck.

It's definitely a YMMV situation. For me I was bored with it more often than not and can only remember like 1 or 2 quests from the game. I do still want to replay it on PC since I also have the dlc for it but you all know how those plans go. I've been sitting on this planned replay for like 3 years now lol. I have a rough time with overly realistic games that take place in simpler times (to put it nicely). I get incredibly bored with RDR 1 and 2 as well because the vast majority of the game world is so empty. I'm not saying I want a ubisoft game where something has to engage you every 3 seconds but I feel like these hyper realism games swing too far in the opposite direction too.

That being said I wish more games had its potion crafting system. I liked following a step by step guide and manually creating my own stuff, and if I did get tired of doing that the game still let you auto craft stuff once you created it one time. I just find no value in crafting in games because there's no effort or thought to it it's just go pick up a bunch of trash on the ground in various areas.
Well, if you ever do replay (and I recommend it on PC if you only played it on console for sure, 60fps and near instant loadings make it vastly more enjoyable), make sure to play Johanka's questline in the Woman's Lot DLC. It is one of my favourite questlines in any RPG.

Aaaaand both games came out at $70 for the standard edition. This now marks a precedent of PC players being ok with that price tag, bummer
There is a thread on otherforum lamenting the price-gouging of indies and how some 50 bucks games can't find success because Indies devalued the price of games.

The reality is neither.

For example Strategy Gamers.
We are okay with that price because we (Grand)Strategy/Tactic/Simulation gamers don't have that much competition or competent talent in this space (I am loath to use the word "competent", but a strategy game needs a good battle/economic side to be fun)

Just look at games from Slitherin the publisher, they range from 30 to 70.

Here is an example:
Rule the waves 3, beloved by fans, it costs 60 bucks and looks like this:

The same can be said about VN's or JRPG. There just isn't enough supply for the demand.

While you have Metroidvanias or 2D platformers who need to knife-fight the other 10.000 developers.

I already said that I won't buy P3 for such a ludicrous price, not even for half, because I played it 14 years ago, but lets face it:
Steam is MASSIVE. A tiny minority buying their beloved game will set the charts or CCU on fire.

Really if you look at the overall timeline of gaming, 'anime games' are at probably 0.1% of what they once were in terms of popularity and in number of releases. Just like how for a while there weren't any TRPGs, or RTS games, or space sims and now there are. I think it's still a vastly undertapped market.

To be clear I'm including everything from Japan-only releases, to Western anime themed games like Zone 66, One Must Fall, and Shogo, as well as JRPGs etc and games that were Westernized when brought from Japan.

I watched Robo cop the past weekend. That movie is wild. It was my first time seeing it and if you had told me it was not the original Ropo Cop but rather it was a parody of it. I would 1000% would have believed you. The movie is just silly. Visually it's definitely impressive with some of the designs that they used for the robots and the stop motion was interesting to look at.

Also police going on strike? Going on strike against WHAT???? Also looking at the 80s, cops mainly used pistols and stuff. Now in the US, the use Assault Rifles.

By the way I just find it hard to believe stuff anymore. Anyone, anyone could just make a picture(post/article /video) of something and claim it's made by some one else when in reality it's just fake.

I was reading this one post about Hi-Fi Rush and MC users scores and stuff that John from DF posted. Supposedly that information was inaccurate and fabricated (MC doesn't do verification or anything) and this let to John picking it up and after John found out that it was fake and not something someone actually though, he then proceeded to delete said tweet?

But how do I know that was actually the case and not the person mentioning all of this being the person making a fake tweet posing as John since they don't seem to like DF and stuff.

I'm not sure who to believe. In a way I wouldn't be surprised if John had in fact said it seeing how out of the DF team he is the one that acts "high and mighty" and looks down on other people. Hey you like Call of Duty? That's not a real game. Instead you should be playing this one game by M2 on a CRT using original hardware and stuff. In a way I kinda get it why hey does it (the art of video games) but it also does gate keep people and just makes people that are "core gamers" seem like a bunch of snoops. I'm not even sure if John fact checks on stuff either since I have seen some questions stuff in the past that could have been corrected by look up updated information.

P3R with 3x the concurrent players as Suicide Squad atm.

Granblue Fantasy is doing nearly 7x Suicide Squad. I'm sure console numbers are better, but it's nothing short of a massive flop on PC.

I feel like anime games hit a pretty bad roadblock during the ps3 era. That period was also really bad for japanese games in general since it was the cool thing to shit on them (just look how many articles on gaming sites talked about the death of japan. Even terms like JRPG were used to make them look inferior to "real rpgs" like Mass Effect). Ironic considering a japanese game literally created the new genre "Souls-like" on that very platform!
It's now a thing of the past luckily but remember how hard it was to even get most anime games outside of japan on ps3. Bamco alone released multiple japan only games every year for the entire generation, hell even Tales almost risked becoming a JP only series. Games like Tales, Yakuza, even Persona were not taken seriously and I hope you knew japanese of you were a fan of any Manga/Anime/Light Novel property outside of the big 3. While companies like NISA, Aksys, XSeed did pick up the slack and released multiple games even on ps3, but their releases were seen as even "less" than the usual. Even during E3 Sony ignored most JP games during their big presentations (unless you were SE)

There is no better way to understand the anime game situation than to look at the history of Gundam games. Most of them were jp only, but little by little some games started to appear at least in the us on Dreamcast and PS2. Dynasty Warriors Gundam got 4 games on PS3 and then... nothing. Occasionally some came out in the west, maybe digital only, but most were still JP only. Then we stopped getting Gundam games at all (thanks New Gundam Breaker!) and at most you could import asian versions of some Vita releases. Until Cross Rays released on Steam worldwide, and apparently saw some unexpected success because otherwise it's impossible to explain how something like SRW (SRPG like SD Gundam G Gen) also got a western release on Steam. And 4 years after NGB finally Battle Alliance released, the first Gundam game in 4 year time (and one of the few post DW Gundam) to actually get multiple western translations. But during that "dark age" too many games ended up being jp only and as games based on an external property it's unlikely they will ever see a modern rerelease

I'm willing to accept japanese games were having troubles on ps3, and later ps4. As I said shitting on them was very common, and Sony did everything to treat them like second class games unworthy of mentions. The damage was done. Lucklily anime fans did band together and put their money where their mouth is, which was Steam. Only someone who puts their head under the sand could pretend anime games aren't doing great on Steam (and are most likely the platform where most sales are). 5 years ago no one would have predicted Steam would have so many successful Visual Novels, RPGs, mecha games and who knows how many more historically snubbed genres. 5 years ago SRW in the west was a pipe dream. 5 years ago a Konosuba game would never be considered for a western release. 5 years ago no one would have expected a Type Moon visual novel to release in the west. Even something like SAO who got multiple games in the west during the last 8 years during the ps3/psp era would have never released in the west, and even less likely to get a 10 language translation. Even a game like SpyxAnya looks like something that would have been very difficult to see in the west despite SxF being a very popular seriers worldwide simply because of it's genre (and it being jp dub only)
Luckily the dark age of anime games are over for good

I heard that you have to disable ray tracing through an .ini
I'll have to look into that. Disabling the reflections in the game's menu already doubled the frame-rate but I still had to cap it at 30 because in Tartarus it's not even holding 40.
The complete absence of shadows in the dorm is probably a bug. Or maybe it's a clever play on the fact that it's SEES' headquarters, I dunno.

You're absolutely right about the being shit on thing. And to some extent it was a result of Japan development collectively falling way behind on video game technology due to the lack of Japanese language documentation and the strength of Western video game engines / hardware, and the Japanese gaming community (by and large) basically moving away from consoles (which remains true).

Suicide Squad is basically just reminding me of Fallout 76 all over again with everyone who actually understands that it's a looter shooter but DC themed is happy with it and everyone who wanted Rocksteady to to make a continuation game of the Arkhamverse is upset at them and shitting all over them

Every time a game like SS crashes and burns it's the one good thing about what's really a sad situation overall. We don't get a lot of high quality big budget SP games anymore so every time you see one of the remaining few S tier devs of those types of games go this route it cuts deep, and it's a wound that's not going to heal by some other dev taking their place because we rarely ever see new devs entering the AAA space and really leaving a strong mark (ironically Rocksteady did exactly this in 2009). So it ends up being a net loss for us while the field of remaining high end SP devs shrinks bit by bit.

Still this is better than the alternative which is a game like this succeeding and encouraging pubs to keep repeating this pattern. We seem to finally be in a place where pubs are second guessing the live service narrative that's dominated the industry for the bulk of the last decade with many of them cancelling big GaaS games that were in the works. Maybe we're entering a phase where this doesn't happen anymore, or nearly as often at least.

Downunder.
Not to be overly mean, but bragging about the playtime of a VN feels a bit self defeating. Just comes down to ones reading speed
Well, that also depends on if the VN has gameplay elements (or one that is obnoxiously obtuse that playing it without a guide/flowchart is an exercise in frustration)

One related thing that is pretty hard to miss is that not a single Nijisanji Vtuber has streamed Palworld, while it seems like it makes for half of all Hololive and indie streams over the past 1.5 weeks.
At the same time, Nijisanji is the agency with the "special agreement" for Pokemon, and the only one with the permission to stream those games arbitrarily (while others have silly constraints to time windows for specific games, or limitations for the parts of a game they can stream).

Seems very unlikely that this is a coincidence, but it's impossible to tell if this is anything actually enforced by Nintendo or the Pokemon company, or just anticipatory obedience (I hope that's actually a thing in English).

I am not against people having fun with something I don't like. But in case of games like Sucide Squad it is in a way better for everyone that it gets criticized. Working for 7 years on a game and delivering product where you literally repeat same encounters entire game (with bit of tweaks now and then) with same enemies is bad no matter how much fun you have. Better level, enemy and encounter designs won't make game less fun but it will make game better for everyone.
