Oddly Taiwan doesn't have PSN but still GoT purchasable.

Not like I was going to buy an old game that is near Elden Ring launch price anyways.

It's straight to the 25% or more category.

STEAM REFUNDED GHOST OF TSUSHIMA FOR ME WTF? This shit is unnaceptable
Seems to me that makes it pretty obvious what Sony thinks of all the unsupported countries. At this point you may as well spend your money elsewhere
Real question is where I should spend GoT money now XD
Sounds like it's time to get into the world of japanese indie games. No region lock and good regional prices and Sony doesn't like those kind of games so even more reason to get them ; )

So the next ROG Ally is going to be called the ROG Ally X and not ROG Ally 2.

I still feel like ROG has been talking notes from Valve (yeah I know it's a stretch but that's the way I see it, compared to them taking notes from Nintendo.)

Even the name ally, you have the legion Go (which makes sense) but where does Ally come from? Sounds like it comes from Pal, which could be if you so choose to be associated with the term ally, Pal, ally, friend, Tomodachi. As for Nintendo you could potentially make a connection to the name of Gameboy.

Anyway so for the next refresh it's being reported that it will be an improvement over the current one with more ports, a much bigger battery capacity, SD card being relocated. And other stuff.

Now the bad news about it ..... It's going to be heavier (slightly is what they said) and it's going to cost even more now. With the Steam Deck OLED Valve was able to make it lighter and even keep cost to people about the name and not increase the price.

That is because Valve actually thinks things through. Both original Deck and OLED Deck ale well rounded devices where you can see that they tried to balance things. Other devices that came after Deck were designed around big numbers (bigger screen, higher resolution, more powerful APU...).

Will more money and production value actually ruin Dragon's Dogma tho? That game seems like it's so much about vibes to me. Like chilling and hanging with the crew and going on adventures. Making it a AAAA product is gonna make it into Dragon Age Inquisition vs the OG Dragon Age.

I do think Dragons Dogma with much higher production that deals with presentation, world building and mechanical variation will take the franchise to a level where it really shines .

Epic apparently ruined Valve's 80/20 announcement plan. (From recently unsealed court document in Wolfire vs. Valve)

Valve spying on retail pricing

The Japan thing is pretty crazy because when you really think about it (and this doe not only apply to Steam since there are in fact other online storefronts as well that sell Japanese Doujin games)

But you had Eroge games that use to be very expensive compared to regular games. But you could also buy them online and with stuff like Steam you can sell them to and even wider market. Stuff still gets banned of course but it is possible for it to sell even more copies and for the publisher to be willing to sell it at a much lower cost.
--------------------

I didn't watch the whole video but is it same to assume that this is a look at the current state of the video game industry though the lens of Japan?

Guess who they talk about.

It's quite funny how the decades-long view that Sony has the best console worldwide support has just crumbled like a house of cards.
Sure, Xbox's support outside of US and UK is atrocious, but Sony would always be held high as a bastion of worldwide support.

It was all a sham and an account system that is held together with duct tape while they ignore 2/3 of the world, the console players there seemingly okay with being Tier4 customers.

So I say this a lot but I am still using steam link (not the hardware) to this day.

Just realized I can stream to my laptop which can connect to the TV but play on my desktop while the wife's watches.

I mostly used SL to play on my phone when out of my home.

This whole "you should just kept quiet and make PSN account with supported country" talk is honestly starting to get on my nerves. I had sympathy for impacted (hell I am impacted too) but constant attacks and blaming users is slowly making me regret that. Is being able to play handful of games that much more important than doing something to make big corporation actually improve their service? Or am I just insensitive a-hole who is "ruining" people lives?

Don't rationalize it, they're fanboys, and fanboys base a big part of their personality on worshipping one specific brand and console. They only care about what people in their own echo chamber of losers think. Competing in defending every corporate decision and measuring who can slurp on Sony's dick the hardest.

I see people unironically say "Well those countries are third-world shitholes anyway" and pretty much poor shaming people who didn't decide where they were born, all of this while complaining about how expensive a gaming PC can be and why a console is the better value.

They don't make sense, they're crusaders of the new version of Descartes's phrase "I worship Sony then I think"

After all the shit with Microsoft, I thought maaaaaaybe I should think about a PS5 pro when it comes... not so sure now.
So you go from one shitty console platform holder to another? Sony is terrible in so many ways nowadays. Increasing PS Plus tier prices without anything extra in return, turning up prices for both 1st party and 3rd party (!) games and with no stores like Humble, GMG etc. selling PSN keys, good luck, no free cloud saves and no USB stick saving, a bad PSN Store for discovery of new games. So many awesome indie games that even explodes in popularity on Steam never makes it way to console or years down the line.

As an owner of a PS5 myself, nothing above is untrue.

I still can't believe they increased the prices for even 3rd party games on PSN Store.

And with consoles sales going down, Im not looking for a better console future, even with a PS5 Pro and GTA, things are looking grim.

But you do you of course.

fantomena a gaming PC is still way to expensive for me, so I don't really have a choice if I want to play games with spectacle. Sure I have my steam deck but Im not connecting that to my 4k tv and expecting a pleasurable experience.
Feel like buying a PS5 is expensive in it self due to what you lose out on and what you support.

Haven't turned my PS5 on since I finished Rebirth.

I'm going to be blunt. I have seen many games I love bomb and many developers who made those games I love crash and burn that I became completely desensitized to any attempt at a random dev "sob-story" or some empty PR. There is nothing someone on the internet can say or write that will ever make me feel bad for "buying/consuming" or "not buying" a product and you know why?
I respect developers, I enjoy the videogames they make, but they are not your friends. A friend is not some guy you will never interact with outside of using their product. The absolute vast majority of players will never interact in any way with the developers of a game they're currently playing for their entire life, at most they will see him/her/them during a stream or during an interview. The link between developers and players is ultimately build on consumism: a developer produces something I enjoy -> I give the dev money to enjoy the product -> the dev invests the money received. That's it. That's all there is to say. In 2024 the amount of developers has grown so much that it's literally impossible for everyone to find success, and a random guy on an internet forum like me would never have enough money to support all of them. It's inevitable in this consumerist world that many devs will lose their job or leave the industry
I can be sad when I read about all the layoffs. I can be disappointed in other players if they refused to buy something I though was a really good game for petty reasons. I can curse this dog eats dog world. But is it my fault? Absolutely fucking not. What else can I do but to buy a game I know I will enjoy? This is all I can do, and it's such a small thing no one's job will ever be "saved" with just 1 extra copy sold, just as how the opposite "1 less person not buying something will never make it fail" is true. Even if I were to gift a game I love to 2 other people, 5, 10, 20, it's still peanuts. Even if I ran a smearing campaign over a shitty game and convinced 10, 25, 50, 100 people to not buy it it's still peanuts. Even if every member currently registered on this forum bought a specific game en masse it would still be peanuts

Let's look at 2 recent examples. Did me buying Hi-Fi Rush change Tango's destiny? No because consumism is king. Did me not buying Suicide Squad caused Rocksteady to be on the chopping block? No because consumism is king. It's exactly because I'm a "consumer" that it's in my interests to pay for things I enjoy and ignore things I don't. An alternate interpretation could be a "prize and reward system": a game is coming that does things I approve, on a platform I prefer, and in a genre I enjoy, with a sensible price depending on the 3 factors before. By preordering (or buying it at launch if no preorder is possible) the game (or even by preordering a higher priced version) I send a direct message to the pub: do more things like this and you will get my money, and in case I got scammed I can always refund. It's like when you give a treat to a dog in training. You reward companies in the same way. And of course the same is true for the opposite. You punish a product by not paying for it especially if you don't like it, or think it's pushing some shitty practices and so on. Or you can buy it while on sale if you know you will enjoy it but think it's overpriced. Again, it's consumerism: I don't spend my money because I'm an activist, I do it because it's my hobby. And no one can make me change my ways
So no. You should not feel bad for not buying Sony games because of the PSN account thing even if you are in a supported country. It's your money and it's in your right, and no one will lose its job because you specifically didn't support a product. If you don't punish a dog that doesn't behave it will continue to bite everything and everyone

At the end of the day sony had nearly 20 years to make a good service (heck even nintendo remade the whole eshop).
They could have given incentives or they could have created an "unsupported" region that doesn't let you buy games but you you could link (since they wanted number to go up).
Everything else are excuses for a company that didn't bother to improve because they were ahead.

Interested in seeing where they go with the next one. I'm sure since MS is involved it will have 80% more GaaS crap than eternal did when you'd boot it up.

I'm gonna drop the hottest take ever here but I hope the music is a return to form. I can't stand that garbage skrillex metal the last 2 games had. The original doom's music was inspired by slayer, metallica, pantera etc and the last 2 dooms were inspired by putting a drum beat to a malfunctioning dial up connection.

Lost in Random is nice little game but those battles can really be awful. You can spend more time in some battles with normal enemies than with boss. And combat is really mediocre, for the most part you are just running around and shooting with a slingshot at crystals on enemies to gain ability to throw dice and get cards. And cards give you only way to harm enemy (weapons, bombs, hazards). So encounters can last a looong time and they are boring.

Characters are fun and environments are interesting. Most quests are basically fetch quests (both main and side ones).

Overall I still like the game and I will continue to play it but barely half way through I already feel fatigue due to combat.

And Depression The Game (Plague Tale 2) returned to doom and gloom after 2 neutral chapters XD But environments are still amazing and voice actors did great job for basically all characters (but especially for Amicia and Hugo).

So Xbox showcase next month is looking like...

New Doom
Gears 6
Perfect Dark (rumors)
New Call of Duty
Starfield Expansion
Avowed
Something for Minecraft (like always)
Indiana Jones
Stalker 2
Flight Sim 24

And I guess Fable and Clockwork Revolution have to be there. Especially CR since it already had gameplay shown last year it has to be closer to release.

South of Midnight is still too early. And State of Decay 3 is probably dead or in dev hell.

I guess they will show Towerborne but I'm not expecting small games at their shows anymore since their shit corporate focus is now "High Impact Titles"..

I doubt they announce new hardware as well and it feels like Blizzard isn't doing much for the time being...so yea.. that is looking like their event.

I don't know about new Doom.

I would much rather play a Wolfenstein 3. Looking back at The New Order and Colossus...those are easily the best run n gun FPS games I played over the past 10 years. Kind of unfortunate they didn't conclude it and doing Indian Jones instead.

Meanwhile Doom and Doom Eternal are kinda forgettable for me. Good games but not great. But I guess id have to make something.

Wolfenstein is most likely a dead IP to them now. They can't turn it into GaaS like Doom so Microsoft will probably not let them work on it again. I mean they tried with the Youngblood game but yea..

Nothing from Xbox excites me. Maybe Fable? But I just don't see it being good sadly
Even though it hasn't looked particularly great so far, I still hold out hope that Avowed will actually turn out interesting to play.
And if MS doesn't disband them, I'm also curious what Harebrained Schemes has been doing.

So that's two things. Or maybe 1.5, since one isn't really a concrete "thing" yet. Which isn't a lot, but then again it's more than I anticipate from any Sony studio.
