Tried FF16 demo. I like the Active Time Lore mechanics. The game also convinced me that I need to get a better rig and, more importantly, upgrade to 1440p soon.

If only Valve put this much energy into dealing with all the wallhackers and aimbotters. Instead, more deep-learning-AC that definitely absolutely never has any false positives, and never kicked anyone for rotating too fast with high DPI settings.
It's weird, Valve recently did something that seems to be very effective against bots and cheaters in TF2. Casual mode was overrun for a very long time until Valve did whatever they did a month or two ago.

Well, I just won a match because the other team kept having someone getting false-positive kicked every other round - And when at the beginning of the match I asked "Bets on who gets autokicked for strafing?" it was the people who kept getting kicked later that game who responded with "Just don't rely on software bro, skill issue".

So either they were getting hit with false-positives, or they were Projecting.

Discussion I've seen so far is that this thing sucks at detecting Wooting Rappy-Snappy, but absolutely incredible at triggering false-positives on "All Meat" players.

It was suggested that that issue with TF2 happened because an old build of Source Engine Source Code was leaked.

Any way now we know what Hektor tax money goes

The German government gives this game it's approval.

Crazy Wukong beat both Elden Ring and Cyberpunk. I didn't think it would be this big wtf

And Palworld killed it earlier this year.

I wonder what will be next to top something like this now.

From a singleplayer perspective.... It will have to be Witcher 4 or Elder Scrolls VI

I guess GTA6 as well but late port R* bs will most likely keep it under 1 million.

Honestly I feel like there's a discussion to be had concerning Valve's intertwining themselves perhaps a bit too deeply with the eSports scene for Counter-Strike - Particularly given that this was an issue that had already been hashed-out by TOs.

I can't help but think that Valve over the past few years has a bit too quick on the draw to make reactionary-changes to CS based off of things that happened at independently-ran tournaments.

So I just spent 36 excruciating hours without electrical power in my house. I came back and now Bloodborne runs at 120 fps on emulator, Wukong breaks the single-player CCU record on Steam and FFXVI gets announced on Steam at a reasonable price and with a demo included. Goddamn

Saw a bit of that Shapez 2, and it looks pretty good. Very relaxed but also gets pretty tough puzzle-y like a factorio or almost a Zachtronics game. Though maybe not all the way into that territory. Looms pretty fun.

When the dust settles I hope we're able to get a good idea of just how heavily skewed the split is between china and ROW. It really didn't seem like wukong had that much hype in western circles. Like people were aware of it for sure but it didn't feel like an incoming freight train like elden ring or zelda, it felt kind of similar to stellar blade to me.

But it is kinda wild just how hard a single country can carry something when they truly feel like doing it.

Yeah, when it comes to PC gaming I find Era proves they know absolutely fuck all. But then again a lot of them get surprised whenever a game has the cheek to be popular on PC even though LoL, Dota or CS have the sort of consistent numbers most big companies have dreams about.

Anybody playing Wukong ? Is it good ? And is it regular difficulty or sekiro-like ?

The whole polemic has left a sour taste and I can't say I'm really eager to play it. But if it's good, it's good.

Isn't steam in china a different client/app? Are the player number segregated or are they counted together?

There is official Steam China and there is just Steam. Valve made specific client and store for China that is applying all regulation demands but vast majority of people just use standard Stram that is still available in China.

I like how Era are acting like Wukong has 2 western players and every other player is from China

The trailers had over 1m views on the likes of IGN etc. It had hype in the west, they just live in their own bubble as usual.
They're delusional, right now the game is number 1 in the top sellers list for every country that can be selected in the regions dropdown on steam's top sellers page:

Astonishing numbers for Wukong. I knew Palworld was toast but let's see what happens during prime time and over the weekend. I think the game might have done even better if it had released around Thursday or Friday to get the cumulative effect of all those factors. Fortunately the horseshit "controversy" around this game amounted to absolutely fuckall seeing these numbers.

Also fascinating to watch Westerners try to downplay the success of the game. Some are just asking questions... "Are we sure these numbers aren't being botted by China?". "Is it possible this success is because Nvidia was giving out coupons for the game with GPU purchases?". "Isn't it suspicious that 80% of the reviews are not in English?". Others don't even bother to hide their racism or Sinophobia. "If you buy this game you are directly supporting the EVIL DASTARDLY Chinese government!!!!!!!!". Because you see, you should only ever finance the noble, righteous, virtuous and heroic Western nations who have managed to hold a firm grasp on the moral high ground throughout history as they plundered the wealth of civilizations and mercilessly slaughtered tens or hundreds of millions of people in the process. Head over to the r/Games thread on this subject to see how many people are unable to hold back their racist bullshit and how many comments are getting removed.

I'm guessing this an anthropological 'first contact' moment for a subset of people who, for example, don't engage with mobile gaming and so do not understand just how big and successful games like Genshin Impact have become and why that has happened.

Is anyone here playing Wukong? My worry with Chinese games is always the quality of the localization. Would be neat to have a deep RPG that was actually translated well and has great English writing

As dex said there is a dedicated Steam China, but Wukong is not available on there. The only way to "officially" buy Wukong in China is via WeGame which is Tencent's equivalent of Steam. Even though Steam China is a different frontend, the backend is the same as our Steam so all the numbers are combined.

The Steam we all know is in this weird gray zone where it is not easily accessible, but it isn't completely blocked ala most big western sites. It was easily accessible until December 2021 when the government put a semi block on it. However it's easy enough to buypass that Chinese is the second largest language and Wukong can do >1 million CCUs.

Unfortunately, well translated or not it seems that it won't make much sense if you are not on top of your Journey to the West game.
I never read it. I expect nonsense.

Seems like there's a complete English translation, with decent editing from 1984 originally. In Ebook form since 2012:
Only a mere 2241 pages or 600K words. No biggie (for comparison, the entirety of LOTR has around 570K )

Though from what I understand, the game is not actually following the classic novel, but it's like a fan fic that plays after the events of the original?

It's what I understood, too.

And I was toying with the idea of tracking down the book. But I don't really do 300+ pages these days and it must be rough storytelling wise. I mean, university made me read The Odyssey, and I'm still not over the bored bricks I shat. So many bricks.

Yes, Stutter Fantasy XVI
Even despite locked (although not pre-rendered) cutscenes
I'll have to say the second part of the demo ran pretty well. Phoenix vs Ifrit was surprisingly the best part (80-120fps and no stuttering), which makes you wonder even more why did they locked cutscenes to 30fps :shrugblob:

will Wukong eat CS2 today?
Looking like it. It's going up about 20-25k every 5 minutes and is at 1.681 MM right now. It should beat CS2 within an hour.

Dunno if there's enough gas in the tank to beat Palworld. If they had done a weekend release then it would have happened.

I still hear about ‘dawn‘s rosy fingers‘ in my mind !

(rough translation in English of the expression the author uses to describe dawn. And let me tell you, in The Odyssey, there are a fucking metric ton of dawns :anguished-face: )

Now, on the other hand, what little I read of the Iliad was pretty great.

I like how Era complains about sh*tty devs in some threads but ignore some sh*tty devs in other threads.
Even more stupid is the bashing of "GAMERZ!" like clockwork. While only 1 news outlet some years ago (IGN) did a report about the devs views. (as far as I know.

That honestly doesn't necessarily mean anything. Almost every semi notable AA/AAA release right near launch will be the top seller because it's a revenue list and new games, especially SP ones, sell the most right at launch. So any surge of sales will be enough to pusth everything near the top of a revenue list.
