These shows are always a reminder that there's just not many interesting games being made these days and most of the ones that are usually get held for other shows (publisher specific events). It's also crazy that geoff's shows are always the longest by far despite him having nothing noteworthy to show.

Somehow this guy puts on a stacked show again lol. And he will do it again later this year with 2+ more hours.

There is definitely a lot of overlap and cringe slowdowns in his show but you have to give him credit. Quantity over quality n all that.

there's something interesting for a wide range of tastes – my guess is your taste in games is just narrower than the portfolio these shows present...and thats fine (its the same here; almost nothing of interest on the show for me); but just try to see it from that angle. theres an audience for each of these games for sure, even if thats not you or me :)

I was most interested in Monument Valley 3, but since that is Netflix-exclusive...meh. Other than that, Indy looks like it could be fun; a new Mafia game is a welcome surprise ....erm... yeah, thats about it for me ;)

Yeah I mean if the goal is to have "content" then you can easily fill up 2 hours but as we see every time during SGF or his gamescom show it's never very good. He usually only has 1-3 things that anyone gives a crap about and the rest is just a sea of generic filler.

Gaming isn't really any different than most other forms of media these days. There's more stuff than ever but hardly any of it is noteworthy or exciting.

In the Civ 7 gameplay video they said that you'll now be able to choose any leader for any civilization you play. That's going to lead to some goofy situations like for example Gandhi being the leader of the British Empire :evilblob:

Every Civilization release feels like a milestone event for PC gaming. There aren't that many franchises that do that these days. To the point where I can anchor life events to Civ releases. For example, I was in college when Civ 4 released. I got (pirated) it on day 1 and sat down to play right after classes and lunch around 2pm. I finally stopped playing at about 4am, 14 hours later. I have never played a game for that long continuously on any other day in my entire life. I'll never do it again. I don't think there's any game other than Civ that can make me do it even if I wanted to.

Those changes for Civ 7 seem huge. Monumental, you might say.
Swapping the civ as you go between ages is going to make a lot more relevant bonuses in every era which is cool. No more useless units from the Stone age against tanks. Kinda sad that you won't be able to do stuff like tanks vs archers but oh well.

I'm kinda bummed that this means there are only 3 "ages" now though. I understand why you want to limit that with so many gameplay changes between them.

Dunno about CIV VII
The changing civ things was tried by another civ clone and it was universally panned, going from Babylon, to Mongols, to Spain, to Germany. No coherent connection.

Also, only 3 ages? I would think at least 5 would be the minimum. (Stone Age, Antique, Middle Ages, Exploration (Renaissance), Modern Age)
Stone Age could even be a short introductory age.

But there NEEDS to be an age between Antique and Exploration or Exploration and Modern Age.

I really dislike that you have to change civ at each ages, they did it in Humankind and it sucked alot. If i pick Rome, then i want to play it through out the whole game.

I think everything else about the game sounds good, they just need to add a setting or mod that makes it so you can play as only 1 civ else im probably skipping this one.

I still think the industry needs him. Without Keighley and his shows we would just have the big 3 pushing some shitty curated marketing across the board.

They would just pick n choose wtvr they feel is good enough for their direct/showcases. It would be so selective it would likely hurt the industry. A lot of indies, mid budget, f2p/gaas and international games would get left out. Keighley lets a lot of this obscure stuff shine even if these titles don't do well.

And every now n then you get something like the Palworld trailer at one of his shows last year. People laughed at it being Pokemon with guns but that game went on to have one of the largest launches ever. Neither console maker had that trailer at their shows first. I'm pretty sure a Wukong trailer first made it to his show before it aired on any of the console shows as well.

His shows are always mid but they get millions of eyeballs on them. That is really all that matters. Its good marketing. Even the disappointing games he markets over and over like Callisto Protocol still did fine in sales. The money it cost to run trailer ads on his shows are worth it imo.

The other thing I kind of appreciate is that Keighley (or maybe devs/pubs) do their best to follow up on trailers. Even if its years later you still get follow up trailers with gameplay reveals etc. Like the Borderlands 4 shit today will probably have a gameplay reveal later in the year with the Game Awards show.
