I know AI scripting in RTwP RPGs is a feature some find really useful, but I'm not really interested in my party members playing themselves. I do find pause conditionals useful, but not absolutely necessary.

Play one for 10 minutes and you've played them all basically. And they look the same on ps2 and ps4 (this is a 5% exaggeration)
No lies detected.

I usually use both approach. AI scripting is useful for easier encounters, but sometimes things don't go exactly as planned and I wouldn't mind micro-managing my whole party. Also, people often regard FFXII gambit system as the best rtwp, but I think it's mostly due to the simplistic nature of the encounter design of that game. You very rarely encounter a group of more than 3-4 enemies in FFXII, so it's always easier to get control of the combat there. Everyone will stay where they are and you only need to pay attention to your health and buffs/debuffs in combat. In cRPGs, there are often encounters with 6 or even more enemies charging at you. To make things worse, a lot of them have teleportation skill and will gladly ambush your mage/ranged units in the back. AI scripting wouldn't be enough to handle such situations.

In addition to what you said, FFXII battles just generally aren't as positional as most CRPGs with RTwP systems. Those usually have things like powerful AoE spells with friendly fire, and engagement mechanics.

WALL OF TRUTH
:wd_salute:

Although I feel like changing Hektor 's mind in particular would be as easy as posting some cosplay of certain female Digimon.

Not bad sir, not bad at all.

... now if only I could play these on PC!
YES!

In my ideal headscenario, and considering Namco's previous handling of ports, Surive on PC at the very least means all new Digimon games going forward, and ideally porting some of the older games in-between (e.g. how they did with SAO).

Anyway. Finished Dragon Quest XI probably one of the best JRPGs of all time. Now to decide what to play before Kiwami releases. Thought about Odallus or Aggelos or something other that is short and could make me try out my M30

Most RTwP lack a good gambit system, therefor they are trash as the opinion that RTwP is good. qed
It really is absolutely amazing! One of the very best JRPGs I've ever played. Did you finish the post game stuff as well?

Honestly the music alone prevents me from ever seriously recommending DQ XI.
I really enjoyed the story and characters, except a certain thing in post-game, that ruined most of it for me.
It is really pretty and the animations and monsters are a joy to watch. Emphasis of "watch" here, because I didn't like the battle system much. I enjoyed it the most when I had everyone on auto and didn't have to bother engaging with it.

Overall it fluctuates in this weird space where I really liked certain parts of it, really disliked other parts, don't outright love it, but wouldn't call it mediocre either and I dunno.
But it's certainly nowhere near my personal favorites, so I guess that's that.
And god damn it cannot be emphasised enough how bad the soundtrack is and is used.

Yes! Postgame side stuff is pretty much take it or leave it but the main path of the post game is pretty great. So much that I would say they should've put that in the main game.

What about the post game soured you?

The music is not the best, I give that. Used the Orchestra Mod and tuned down the music which is too high a volume on default. Overworld music got better in postgame, too. VA performance were fantastic, too. Added so much.

What didn't you like about the battle system? I thought was pretty well done with its empasize on buffs/debuffs like past DQs additional with various enemy types. Classic camera made it pretty snappy. Also I had the opposite effect on my. Started with everyone on auto but then switched to manual because the AI would prolong fights by attacking the wrong enemies, doing the wrong action, using the wrong ability, etc.

I have a confession. I have refunded two or three times (four times according to my mail archive). All refunds were made within one month and it was when Steam introduced refunding. After that I have never refunded once

Saying DQ has no world building when its a series that essentially develops every single town you visit with a full blown story arc revolving around its customs makes me want to german suplex all of you.

I refund a ton of games. But only because I can get them cheaper elsewhere.

I think like 10 games I refunded ended up in a humble monthly a month or two later. Which is good for me because I had a yearly sub at the time 😎

It is fate to not get any anime games, was going to get 20€ steam bucks today to get something from the golden sale but they didn't have any 20€ cards at the local games store.

I admittedly asked for a refund a lot of times during big sale events but they were all games I wasn't completely sold on and I wouldn't have purchased in the first place if it wasn't for the possibility of having the money back if I didn't like them. I end up keeping the vast majority of them anyway.

The time travel stuff. Act 2 had so much great character development moments only for everything to be completely undone in Act 3. Yeah, Act 3 kinda went through the same beats on fast-forward and it's more than once teased that everyone still remembers what happened in the depths of their minds, but it's just not the same. I was so, so disappointed and it retroactively made me enjoy everything prior less.

Regarding the combat, it was just kinda there for me. I found it to be very simplistic, and on the normal difficulty there was basically no strategy involved outside of boss fights, and I didn't want to play it on hard because the game is already extremely long as is.
Controlling everyone manually might strictly speaking be somewhat faster in dealing with trash mobs, but I just often ended up alt-tabbing and read or look something up while I let the game play itself at the end ¯\(ツ)
I probably would have payed more attention if the game had better music tbh, I can stomach "going-through-the-motion" gameplay if it's accompanied by good music, while apparently bland music has the effect of making me care less about the gameplay as well.

I bet Square Enix are kicking themselves for not getting their Avengers game out in time for Endgame.
are they even still working on that thing? they only showed that CGI-nothing when they announced it ... and absolutely nothing since then, and it's been like ... what ... 3 years?

I've only refunded like 4 games. Two were boring, the other two didn't work (thanks SecuROM)

Should have refunded Monhun World, Tekken 7 and DBFZ

Yeah, not even a peep about it since the announcement. They were going to do 3 Marvel games, right?

I refunded two games this year, Xenon Racer, because it didn't run on my PC for whatever reason at launch and Sigma Theory, because I got a coupon shortly after buying it so I refunded and bought it again.

Last year I refunded some games too, ATLAS and Skater XL during the winter sale, because both were bad, and TES Online because I bought the wrong version. Didn't refund anything in 2014 ~ 2017.

Ouch. Talk about missing a launch window.

Thinking back, do we have any big budget games over the entire lifetime of the MCU? Spiderman is Sony, and then .. what? Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3? The Telltale Guardians of the Galaxy game? The LEGO games? I guess there is the Ironman VR one.

Between Marvel and Star Wars, Disney really didn't manage the gaming side of its properties very well.

Steins;Gate, 428, Umineko, Fata Morgana or Muv-Luv as all great.
I keep forgetting about VNs. Earlier this year you recommended me half a million games, and I added them all to my wishlist and downloaded the free ones. I also bought (or already owned) several others, like Danganronpa 1, the Fata Morgana prequel, The Silver Case plus its sequel, and the first Higurashi, none of which I started yet.

Maybe I should wrap up my FM replay post haste and get on with the other VNs I own.

Exanima still alive and showcasing improvements made in recent patch
Showing animation improvements while using a greatsword, a weapon that is particularly difficult for characters to control smoothly due to its combination of size, mass, speed and grip. In previous versions, the sword and entire character would wobble very noticeably.

Crazy, because so many of my all-time best are on the SNES. For best SNES JRPG I got:
1. Chrono Trigger
2. Terranigma
3. Lufia 2
4. FFVI
5. Earthbound
That's leaving out games like SoM3, Illusion of Gaia, SMRPG, Tales of Phantasia, BoF2.
And I've been missing out on the best of them all, apparently?
I have all of these on my SNES Classic (please don't ask how they got there :p), but the thought of embarking on a 300+ hours RPG binge scares me to death. Even though I'm not a fan of the genre I want to play these titles, but the tim3 commitment they require turns me off.

If you're talking about A Requiem for Innocence, be aware that it should absolute not be played before the regular game. (And it's not really a prequel).
I already finished the original game once, and loved it so much I immediately started it again. That second playthrough is the one I haven't finished yet, haha.

Requiem isn't really a prequel? But the store page made me believe that was the case... Oh well, guess I'll find out once I start it in 3 decades or so.

I just checked and I received a refund exactly 36 times...

pls no ban
There's nothing wrong with refunding, it's there to be used.
I've refunded a bunch of things. Some games I wasn't sure if I would like them, but with the "safety net" of refunds bought them anyway, but didn't really like them after all end refunded (conversely, others I've kept).
Some I refunded simply because I bought them in a sale alongside a bunch of other things and realized I was only playing the other things, so I refunded the ones I didn't play and bought (or will buy) them again later, when I had time for them.
