Thinking about the upcoming sale, I'm actually less interested in the actual sales, and more excited to see what kind of art Valve has this year in it.
I wish they would go back to those earlier sale events , in which you could score some DLCs (or even games) by doing the objectives.
Objectives that actually took some effort to achieve, instead of just launching the game.

It was a great way to play games we otherwise probably wouldn't play, at least not right away.
I discovered a few games I had on my backlog, and that I hadn't played before, thanks to these events.

I still have one DLC for X3: Terran Conflict (A Sunny Place) that was, as far as know, never available outside of that Summer Sale, because unlike the other DLCs you could score, this one was never sold.

Did I got got?

Does anyone know If I have now an epic account because I had a dauntless open beta account?
That was my worry. I deleted my Epic account when all their nonsense started and emailed Phoenix Labs to get my beta account deleted after they announced the partnership. No idea if they actually followed through since I never received confirmation.

Guess if I somehow end up with another Epic account I'll just delete that one too.

weird video ... he seems to be confused about pricing somehow ... also complains about lightning while using gzdoom which by default has modified lighting (so it might conflict with the sigil wad)
... i wish influencer acutally did their job and check/confirm things up before speaking nonsense

Sigil vid from some guy
:(
have not seen the video but played the first 2 levels from sigil and I thought it was great so far. Sure, it's the very beginning.

well, to be fair, the sigil instructions will tell you to use gzdoom. don't have time currently but will check out later chocolate doom. pricing is easy afaik? physical you pay, wad with soundtrack you pay. wad without soundtrack will be free shortly. You can mail John your order confirmation if you bought physical and he will mail you a link to the wad+soundtrack version (that's what i did).

Having yesterday completed Mirrors Edge im on a bit of an old-ish game kick so today I've started Metro 2033. I really like FPS story driven games and that era seemed to churn out quite a few of them. Metro at 4k 60fps everything turned up to 11 is still pretty nice and so far im enjoying the game. Theres a fair amount of slow walking and talking in between more actiony sections but the game definitely has me hooked again.

If only there was a modern Metro I could play on the client of my choice after buying from the store of my choice...

they had no plans to release on Steam in 2017, I'd say that now the chances are even lower than back then.

Yeah, me too. :)

On a side note, I know, for some (I would say ridiculous) reason people started disliking him after Daikatana, but say what you will, every online interaction I had with John Romero (dating back 2 decades or more ago) has been nothing but awesome.
He replied to every message (detailed replies) I ever sent him, he worked to solve in a couple of hours some minor bugs I had with his game Hyperspace Delivery Boy! (sending me details, and the files with the fixes, while he was going through the fixes), we traded emails regarding his old works, or even the Gauntlet series (while he was at Midway), and he had frequent interactions with everyone who posted on the Rome.ro forums.
He really is a very nice guy, passionate for what he does.

Needless to say, in regards to getting access to the digital download, I just dropped a message on twitter about buying the boxed version, and asking about possibly having the digital download of the files while I wait, his wife Brenda replied soon after, and John himself sent me an email, and link to download the files. (y)

Tom Hall (another ex-id Software, and ex-Ion Storm "heavyweight") is also another great guy, and they frequently work together.

Sure, might just be problem with instructions as with modded gzdoom lightning its a bit borked but if you set it to Legacy its all fine.

Sadly, this is extremely frequent, and what's worse is that there are many people who take their word as gospel.

So many times, I've seen people discouraging others from buying certain games, because they'd seen people like "totalbiscuit" or "jim sterling" saying the games were crap, and so, so they made it upon themselves to deter others from playing those games, and spamming the game forums on Steam and elsewhere with idiotic comments and links to those influencer videos, while insulting developers, and so on.
What's worse is that many of these influencers make videos extremely lazy videos, with factually wrong information. And many people don't even bother trying the games themselves, and make up their minds. If "x" influencer says it bad, its bad. Never mind if there's a free demo available that they could try for themselves, it's crap, period.

I remember one indie game, where people kept posting over and over that the game was crap, because "totalbiscuit" said the game was crap, insulting anyone who attempted to say positive things about the game, and I ended up checking that "totalbiscuit" video, and it was frankly ridiculous.
He complained about the controls, saying there was no option to configure them (it was right there in the options menu!), he got stuck, and lost, because he didn't even bother reading a prompt that told him how to roll down (and obviously, he didn't check the map either), it was just plain ridiculous.
Pretty much everything he complained about was something that was explained during the tutorial, and he clearly couldn't even be bothered to read tutorial prompts, or the options menu.

I know I'm a grumpy old guy for saying this, but it's appalling that these people cost sales and money to talented indie developers, while making fortunes monetizing their sloppy "work", and while creating a mob of people that something resembles a cult.
Which reminds me, these are the people that Epic wants to reward with their store, with that whole "influencer" program. :pouting-face:

Speaking of the game, Tizoc, is there any pre-order bonus?
I thought one was announced, but I don't see anything on the game's Steam page.

I hope there isn't, since I'll have to delay my purchase until next month. :)

People should stop listening to influencers altogether or take their words as opinions and not gospel. GGGman I use to find previously unknown shooters, but I'd never let him dissuade me from trying something just because he doesn't like it.

I got mine from GMG and didn't see any mention of a bonus on there so I think you should be safe.

makes me wonder if volvo are even planning on doing something like that as well ...
Well.. between Origin Access, Game Pass and now maybe Ubisoft Pass, and with streaming possible being also a big factor, it would be good for Valve to have some plans for a service/subscription based system. But who knows. With the amount of backcatalog Steam has, I certainly would be very interested in a Steam Pass even if had a lot of limitations.

As for Ubisoft, well, if their endgame really is indeed an UbiPass.... then the deal that was already very good for them just got a lot better. And thinking about it, it puts the recent region price "adjustments" they made in a new light. It would make the subscription system a lot more enticing for those regions (that is if they don't ask us to sell a kidney for it).

A Ubi subscription is a neat idea, but my god their lineup is so dull imo =/
It makes a lot more sense to me than EA's, but yeah their lineup is very bleak too.

For all the credit people give them for a "diverse" lineup, that diversity is mostly really low budget stuff. Their AAA games now all have that same GaaS/social element feel to them. Open world, clear bases, complete daily/weekly objectives for MTX credits or items. same basic RPG elements. Their entire lineup on the AAA side all sort of blends together into one homogeneous blob in my head.

That being said I'm still against the idea of subscription services. It's the ultimate devaluation of content, not necessarily in terms of price but how people actually view things. I watched it happen to music and even now with games I see a lot of people say "I'll wait for gamepass" for games that look good but people don't want to actually buy for $40-60.

:thunking:
Stealing money from Sega, physical aggression of employees, a fascination with "barely legal" porn (all allegedly of course) and now posting a video with animal cruelty. Gearbox couldn't have asked for a better "face" :p

And this also reminded me to check. Borderlands 3 still isn't back on EGS? Must be really annoying him.

You can drop 30gb off of the install by deleting the Japanese pre-rendered cutscenes in the files.

You mean the English ones, what kind of weeb would delete the Japanese version

I don’t know if this is an appropriate spot to chat about it, but AMD had their keynote practice runs online on YouTube for a bit.

3700X 8c/16t < i9-9900k < 3800X 8c/16t (according to them) gaming performance.
$400 for 3800X.
Also will announce a 12c but the 3800X is the gaming focused one.

Feels like the Athlon XP/64 days. Usually I would complain about having to buy a new motherboard, but Intel have already screwed me on the chipset so no difference on that front. I hope AMD delivers (in real word performance), but no rush. I still have to see the new consoles to even think about upgrading.
