  • Games like Twin Mirror by Dontnod that are currently in development, never used Steam as marketing platform, never promised anything to anyone and just did what every developer does, which is looking for the best investor for their project, are sure annoying but can't be grouped with the two aforementioned cases no metter how pissed off I might be.
really i don't give a shit. there are no categories when it comes to epic supporters. everyone goes into the same sack. and onto that sack we should beat furiously with sticks. fuck them all. they dont give a shit about pc. they don't give shit about their costumers. if they need that desperately an investor for their product, maybe its a sign that the product is not viable.

I paid with PayPal. Do you guys know how to activate a chargeback?

Also, everyone, the link to submit a dispute for the European Union. Just unsure on who to address this: YsNet, Kickstarter or Deep Silver

To get a chargeback on PayPal find the Transaction ID, then go to the dispute center or something. You can input the transaction ID and make your case. You need to have tried to get a refund from the seller first, however.

As for the EU dispute, this is delicious. Never thought there was something like this. And I think who you address the dispute to is whoever you paid money to. If you paid Deep Silver, go for them. If you paid Kickstarter, go for them. If you paid YsNet, go for them.

Personally, for the PC version of S3 I paid YsNet directly; I bought my Steam key (and I did buy a Steam key - the slacker backer site in June 2018 specifically said Steam), so I will be going for them.

Edit: This only works against businesses based within the European Union, so I'm not sure who you would go for here. If YS NET has an EU office, then that might be it, but I somehow doubt that.

In my case, it will be Kickstarter then who were the ones who processed the payment of my backing.
Kickstarter has to have an European address if I'm not mistaken, I can't find it though. Not even the US address.

I already tried getting a refund from them, and they gave me that template message saying "No refunds"

Did someone contact Kickstarter yet? I feel bad by throwing them under the bus for Deep Silver's and Ys.net fuckery

Yes, I reported the project.
But, I'm not expecting a reply. They even say so themselves: we can report the projects, and they will take contacts into consideration, but they usually don't reply to reports.

Not sure if old, but I went digging in my archived mail and I've found this:

And if I follow the button, it still says "Steam" on the survey site, and I can even change my choice between PS4 and... Steam.
I discovered this earlier. Changed my code to PS4, which I will sell for more than the $29 I paid for it, while denying Deep Silver a sale. I think that's probably the best I can hope for at this point.

Yeah Epic is beyond redemption at this point for me, no matter what they do to turn around it will never be enough. People say Valve was as bad in the begining, but is it true?
In this particular case though is 50/50 Epic and Deep Silver.
I wonder what Sony is thinking of this move and all the bad-will is generating for a game they funded back when the PC was a largely non-toxic platform.

I'm still baffled that KS cant be held accountable. IMO it should not be possible to throw money to a middle man and when things go south they just shrug and go on with their day.

True, but I was thinking about in general about epic, how it all has added up. They are the one constant, who enables all others to do shit.

It's like they not only burned the bridge with me but nuked the whole fucking planet. I used to be the one good at unreal tournament, I was the udk gospel when everyone was about unity, I was first to jump in on their udk subscription model when I don't know to do shit with haha. Yet here we are, I've never disliked anything in gaming this much .

Jim Sterling might be a talking head spouting his opinions, but there's definitely a dialogue between him and his audience. If someone explains a situation to him he will listen and come to his own conclusion based on that new perspective. His recent EGS stuff is an example of that - he's definitely had an evolving opinion of it over the last six months.

Unlike some game journos who will just call you a GooberGabber or paint you as a sinophobic conspiracy nut, unwilling to leave their closed ideology echo chamber.

I still hope the game gets a negative review from non-bombers. ;)
Reviewers for big and little sites alike have been sharpening their knives over this one for literally years. Regardless of whether it's a game to satisfy Shenmue fans or not, it's going to get crucified.

That's not the case with Dontnod though. The game is currently in development and won't be out for a while, they didn't take money from anyone (at least on the customers side). They clearly stated that they're going with Epic because they need money and Epic evidently gave them a better deal compared to the one Bamco originally offered.

As much as I'm annoyed about the game not releasing on every platform at the same time and I won't be purchasing it on the EGS, they didn't screw over anyone, they didn't took money from pre-orders, didn't run a crowdfunding campaign, didn't create a Steam page and didn't even say when and how the game was going to be made available to the public.

Very different from stuff like Shenmue or Metro/Anno or other games that used Steam for marketing.
I know, never said it's the same situation. I still don't give a damn about their financial situation just like they don't care about mine, so I'll skip the game entirely.

In case anyone doesn't have their Fangamer email anymore, someone linked the survey resender over on Era. I'm gonna give it a day or two before swapping my key to PS4 in case Ys Net/Deep Silver commits to offering backers their Steam keys on Steam release (even if it's a year later). If nothing changes in the next few days, though, I'm swapping and selling that PS4 key to recoup my pledge funds. My interest in actually playing the game at this point is now nil.

People keep talking about "timed" exclusives, but is it possible for it to be anything else? Unless Epic is publishing the game, or helping develop it, or owns it somehow, how can it be a permanent exclusive? Every contract has time limits. Even Hong Kong went back to China when the lease was up.

I wonder if Valve is retaliating by buying up exclusives of games Epic is sniffing around.

In other news, I tried to get PayPal to refund Shenmue III but they closed the case immediately. Might try my bank next.

i don't think so ... someone would've said something by now (that it's exclusive, i mean)
It might not even be moneyhats, but favourable incentives exclusively to certain developers. I dunno. I'm not a business person, I don't actually know what business development at Valve actually does if they're not finding ways to bend the rules to get developers on Steam. But everyone was probably sniffing around Destiny the second Activision dropped it, and you know Epic probably had some major cash to throw.

Maybe Bungie were burned by the BNet experience (it probably sold like shit on that client, on account of it not being a Blizzard game) and didn't want to repeat not being on Steam for a second time in a row, regardless of the cash? Or maybe Epic just didn't give them enough money to make it work? Or maybe Valve just made them the better offer?

With the way Valve operates, I'm not sure a moneyhat or favourable incentive (revenue share, maybe?) is something they'd necessarily gloat about. It'd just be a thing they did to get a thing, and they don't need to sing it from the rooftops because the fact that Destiny 2 is on Steam and nowhere else will speak for itself. Plus it's probably a pandora's box they really don't want many to know they've opened, for the obvious reason that everyone will then come to them cap in hand for some of those sweet incentives or straight up cash.

Plus I really don't think Valve are sitting on their arses doing nothing about EGS. They can't rely on blind faith that the market will sort this out, because Epic has clearly found a flaw in the free market (not making it free, essentially) and are exploiting it with every dime they have. They must be having conversations with developers thinking of going to Epic, or developers that have gone to Epic (if only to ask why, and what they could do better), and there's also a lot of pent up frustration on their own channels (and probably Gabe's inbox) about what Valve is actually doing to stop this poaching going on. I saw in one Steam forum a bunch of people were demanding publishers who use Steam as free advertising before doing a switcheroo to Epic get blacklisted by Valve. Not necessarily something I support, but it's clear that customers are getting more and more agitated about this.

Of course this is all conjecture on my part, but I just don't believe for a second they aren't doing a thing to try and curb this.

maybe ... i mean - you definitely don't give away a game that's selling well for free

Plus I really don't think Valve are sitting on their arses doing nothing about EGS.
i sure fucking hope they aren't

because Epic has clearly found a flaw in the free market
that's not a flaw ... that's by design ... if you have enough money - you can do anything you want

but it's clear that customers are getting more and more agitated about this.
that's good

I'm starting to think being a dipshit is part of the EGS exclusivity contracts.
So, as expected, indie publisher Raw Fury has an EGS exclusive title.

Here is how they are reacting to negative feedback:
It feels like I'm in another dimension or something. I remember when indie devs/pubs used to be nice to their customers. If Epic's moneybag is that deep, just say so and go on with your business.

"I'm starting to think being a dipshit is part of the EGS exclusivity contracts."

I've been wondering this as well. At first I figured it was too ridiculous, but every single pub/dev has been acting like a piece of shit when confronted. I guess everyone has a price, I just wonder if we'll ever find out the truth one day.
