A few of us are starting a MetaCouncil visual novel book club, starting with 428: Shibuya Scramble (VNDB). It'll be a pretty casual thing, mostly just a place for people to speculate and chat while reading the same visual novel, so everyone can read along at their own pace.
A thread will be going up by tomorrow, but if this sound interesting to you and you do not already own 428, then you can still have a bit of time to grab with an 80% discount on Steam:

So while playing SAO I have been following a guide which has all the old names for monsters and places in the game instead of the ones after the re-localization, while many are funny, I this giant bat gets the cake.
edit: I'm not sure this name is among the relocalized stuff though, guess I'll find out since Iìll be going to that area at some point

What a coincidence, I stuck this on my backlog for next month.
Might have to start it a little early then.
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc -> Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair -> Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls (If you want, its optional but you should still read a synopsis before watching DR3) -> Danganronpa 3 (Anime) -> Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.
V3 takes place in an alternate timeline so its non canon to the main overarching story, but it still spoils the entire series so play it last..
Also Danganronpa 3 The Anime is original, not an adaption, and serves as the conclusion to the main story.

this valve tf2 interview was super interesting. not sure if someone else already posted it already. I can't believe they have a gym and yoga studio for their employees. the benefits of working for a billionaire dollar company i guess.

Semi-facetious but these seem fairly common to me. The free minibar seems usual, if they do indeed have free booze. Also the free personal trainer 2x a week is next level. Yearly Hawaii trips is nuts!

What’s up with the last boss? Just finished the game my self not long ago and really loved the game. The fight was whatever but visually I thought the design was pretty dope.

I epically failed at my life. Beyond repairs I fear. I so want to start anew in French Canada... seeing documentaries on the region is half candy store / half porn. Evidently absolutely nothing tell me I wouldn't fail again, but that's the dream.

So ya it looks like Valve gives some of their reasons for not talking to much about things in general (if they say something people will either expect that thing or potentially take what they said out of context?)
Thanks for adding me on GOG and now that I have friends on there I can see some potential with the social features that I talked about in the past with Steam.
Also I am not sure how long this has been a thing but I noticed that the new releases page on Steam is now similar to the upcoming releases and is more organized. Before everything was pretty much just a list but now you see categories such as new games below $10USD and games under $5USD,
Also what are impressions again? since this game has over 5 million of them

I read this back when it came out and while there's certainly some disappointing things for me as a TF2 fan (TF2 is my favorite game of all time) it's certainly one of the most interesting looks into how Valve operates in a long time.
In particular the type of employees they look to hire, which kinda explains why they don't seem to get above 350ish employees (which I don't think is nearly enough for everything they're working on).
The details always get remembered by the general public. However, I don't really see why: if you put things in context, Valve employees must have a really good pay-check (including the bonus), so it does not cost much to the company to pay for little extras like a hair cut or a Coca-Cola. That is an extra $100/year for the employees who actually make use of it, and it is nothing relatively to the pay-check which may go above $200k/year (I don't know the figure, but everything is always big in the USA).
On top of that, it is done by mildly successful tech companies for employees who earn maybe 50-60k€/year in France, so it is not surprising that Valve (with its piles of gold) can offer these little extras.

Can I highlight the new (and only) Warhammer: Vermintide 2 expansion that came out a couple of days ago? I bought it on a whim and... WoW
Vermintide 2 is a PvE co-op game that was heavily inspired by left4dead. But instead of zombies and guns it offers brutal, satisfying melee combat, gore, magic, leveling up, a talent system, crafting, classes etc. It's really well done and it has no in game shop or cosmetics that can be bought with money. Odd that not being greedy is a feature now.

Then there is also a complete bundle for 33€, that includes the game, two smaller map packs (not needed for the expansion) and the expansion itself.
This expansion offers a great opportunity to jump into the game. It offers the usual stuff like new weapons, a new factions, higher lvl cap etc. But more important is a new game mode called "magic weaves" (Warhammer lore thing).
It doesn't erase the current progress, but adds a new and different one. Everyone playing the new expansion is starting from zero, so to speak.
Weaves are remixed and redesigned parts of the current map portfolio, shorter and a bit more objective based. There are 8 main lores of magic in Warhammer and so there are 8 different weave types here. Each weave has a completely different visual and gameplay mutation.
The first one is the magic wind of life. The maps are overgrown with plant life, life energy and sparks are floating around and every killed enemy leaves thornbush behind that hinder your movement.
The second weave is the wind of metal. The maps are dusty, with a strong yellow rust tint, gigantic swords are kissing the sky. every armoured enemy is tougher and you get a damage aoe aura for killing one.
Every wind of magic is different, every lvl is a bit more challenging, you progress by earning points by completing those levels and crafting your gear, learning skills etc.
It's extremely fun and addicting. No Idea how many maps there are, some people are at weave 97+. But I assume they start repeating at some point. So far there are 5 maps per weave/lore of magic. This would be 40 maps with 8 visual and gameplay permutations.
To play the expansion you need the base game and you need to finish the campaign (the two map packs are optional). No need to level up or grind for gear. I'd say getting through the campaign, on the lowest difficulty, with bots (if you want) can be done in one evening after work.

I remember looking at gifs of that game in 2014-2015, so I expect it to take a while for it to be released

On release over at GoG, but I refunded it much later because the GoG was so much behind the steam version.
This update will bring vulkan support to the game? I'm kind of tempted.

With a couple fan patches and a few subtle mods like the SHTUP textures the game's already as modern as one could want it (without using other mods like the character upgrade project that completely misses the mark in terms of atmosphere, SHTUP is super faithful) so I wonder what they can do to make this a worthwhile purchase. Would they actually bother/risk rebalancing the classes and everything to make the notoriously useless psionic abilities better?

I gave Payback a second try last year after hating it on launch and it wasn't that bad, and I loved NFS15, so, I'm very interested on this one. I still think that they need to find an identity for the series though.

I actually pre-ordered the game, but at launch, it kept crashing on my old graphics card, so it remained unplayed since then.
I'll probably give it a go when the new update (is it an update, or DLC?) launches.
So, what does the game play after all these updates?
What is the point? Is there an ending (I believe at launch there was one)?
I bought the game expecting to fly between planets, and exploring the planets a bit, but what is exactly there to do?

There's 3 modes Normal, Creative where you have infinite resources and Survival with Permadeath.
There is very little guidance, it is a very unfocused experience and i love it to pieces.

I'm hoping for less base building (I'm not really the Minecraft/Terraria kind of guy), and more exploration, and fighting other space ships.
No Man's Sky is very much guided. You follow the story (which is eh, but it's not exactly super relevant). You can avoid it. In the same way that you can start Minecraft worlds and "explore" the few base biomes available for ever.
But in general, it's just a 3D Rogue-like (with optional permadeath and it sucks so don't do it) where you explore new randomly generated systems for resources while building up your next tier of upgrades, conveniently color coded.
The issue being that all the gear can easily be obtained very early, and then you grind tons of mats to unlock your ship's ability to explore higher tiers, with very, very little new things to find.
And in general the mission design is trite, be it alien stuff, robot bases to attack, fauna to scan and the like, it all feels the same. And looks the same, even with added generation, it's only good for a passing overview.
The game isn't bad, it works decently well, be it mining, ship combat, or even crafting.
There's just absolutely not enough unique stuff for a game that tries to be endlessly replayable.
Ships, weapons, planets, ennemies, NPCs, star bases, it's unbelievably rehashed.
Oh and the UI is complete shit.

Nope. The launch issues didnt help my interest and the open-ended nature of the gameplay doesn't really tickle my fancy very often. I can play 1, maybe two of those kinds of games in a year, and then rarely do i go back to them.
I prefer more narrative driven content., so ive given it a pass until now.
