(It didn't elevate anything.)
(Everything in TLOU has been done before.)

TLOU was an experience, I wouldn't say it elevated anything and didn't really think so at the time. I mean, anyone who had played The Walking Dead had seen some of this before. (A lot) Fantastic package overall, with some gameplay annoyances (like every Naught Dog game) but still a great game.

No Citizen Kane though. I don't even want a video game citizen kane. Now, GTAV.... that actually hit with some of the gravitas that GTAIV had attempted and failed to achieve, miserably.

Since this came out today:

I figured I'd also post one of my favorite Spiderweb Software things:

I REALLY REALLY suggest watching it if you have an hour to spare and you want to get inside someones head who has navigated and survived the games industry since the 90s covering pretty much every topic

I don't think I ever played a game by Vogel but I've read a few of his blog posts and they're very well written. Plus it seems like he's pretty level-headed. Will watch this sometime.

Yeah, it was a very nicely presented story that made for a really cool experience on the first playthrough. Trying to replay it just showed me how much the story was carrying me through a pretty repetitive and uninspired game, since I didn't have the plot to distract me from those annoying-ass segments.

Ok put me down for the challenge, even though I started it in mid-July

103 hours total, but it definitely would have been 110+ if I hadn't started taking... stronger liberties... with the mods in the very late game. After the 100 hour mark there was a huge spike in difficulty and I just wanted the dang thing to end instead of having to reload every trash mob fight several times.
It went from me feeling overpowered in the previous chapter due to all the high-level items and abilities I was getting to starting every battle with at least half my party automatically paralyzed, feared, and level drained no matter how many protections I pre-buffed with.

It was a truly epic story, taking my characters from level 1 to level 19 by the end (which in D&D terms is huge). Fun gameplay but poorly paced. I like it a lot but I don't see myself replaying it.

Hmmmm, it's good to see their suggestions and their calling out publishers for their obvious lies and evasion regarding how much telemetry they have but i have little confidence that the Government will handle this well if they do decide to do something. It'll be heavy-handed or laughable and easily evaded.

It's not really a quandary for me, I'm not buying games a year after release for more than they've been in sale for before. I'm interested in Observation since I really liked Stories Untold, but since it's already been $12.49 I'm not gonna be paying more than $10 for it when it's a year old.
yup the fun test will be to see which devs have the balls to put on steam at full/near full price after being out a year or so already

It'll be classed as a "Relaunch" or they'll ignore the fact it was on EGS and treat it as their first launch on Steam, which it kind of is. Either that or the Steam version will have some/all DLC included to justify the price. It's going to be popcorn time for sure!

Ive finally been giving Darkwood a proper go. Previously only played the intro bit but ive gone back to it and made some progress..

Good little game. Definitely is spooky in parts. Im playing with a controller and its a bit clunky but that sort of adds to the scary factor so im enjoying it.

I'm not impressed too. And that UI is pretty much MGSV clone.

And the price...... goddammit Sony regional pricing please.

I am severely disappointed by the dawning and increasing realisation that DS is just going to be Kojima's take on the survival genre 😥

Also Ico, RDR, and TLOU are all fundamentally just ok games that are overhyped to kingdom come for god knows what reason. Sue me 🤷‍♂️

Does Biomutant have a release date? Also is it confimed EGS exclusive (being Nordic)? Steam just says 2019.

Laugh at me all you want, but so far, nothing I've seen of DS makes it seem like it's something that's more enjoyable than... Metal Gear Survive.

Metal Gear Survive was actually fun to play. I look at DS, and I see clunky gameplay, some random survival elements, and a narrative that appears to try to be weird, just for the sake of being weird.

If it was any other developer releasing this game, it would be laughed at, and no one would care less.

RDR is a great game.

Also Ico was hyped?

Ico is a better game than TLOU tho.

The other place entered the rage mode because some people weren't impressed by the gameplay of Death Stranding.

Didn't watch the entire demonstration, but it does look like bigger and emptier MGS V.
The UI is pretty much a dead ringer for MGSV.

I actually like the idea of a walking/exploring simulator mixed with some Fed-Ex courier role-play. The biggest problem with the game so far is what you mentioned, the environments look boring so far. Pretty much all the locations they've shown look like a weird, sterile version of Iceland, and just climbing over the same damn environments for hours sounds boring. I'd love to do that over a huge variety of locations and situations, but I don't see enough variety yet to justify the Fed-Ex courier traveling the USA fantasy yet.

I think I will keep my Death Stranding pre-order.

By the way as of the last 10 years what other than MG has Kojima worked on game wise?

Maybe it's because he wanted to do a different genre. Also how open world is DS? Because MGSV did feel empty as hell, those Far Cry games may just be "watch tower" games but at least I had more fun exploring in Far Cry 3 than I did in MGSV.

Is it safe to assume that open world stuff is one of Kojimas weak points? Seeing how for years he was doing much more linear stuff?

I just hope it's decent, that gameplay is not boring and that the story makes a bit of sense.

Metal Gear Survive was pretty good, it had some hard to explain decisions like locking abilities and characters' classes for post-campaign. But for the most part even the online coop missions were funny and engaging.

You weren't kidding. Yikes. Going to need to watch it for myself as ive yet to find anything interesting in the trailers/clips up to this point.

This is incorrect, because Ico is completely boring horseshit.

At least I can amuse myself with the occasional combat in TLOU.

PT/Silent Hills, which was obviously cancelled.

P.T. ?

Kojima said that those 49 minutes gameplay is about 1/3 of the story. Soooo it's really short game?

Agree to disagree. You couldnt pay me to play TLOU again.

I've been on media blackout in regards to DS since the first few E3/game awards teasers. Only seen a couple gifs and pics going around in the past year+.

He spoiled so much of MGSV in those amazing trailers it still pisses me off to this day.

Just 2 more months now. All this divisive comments from people are legit turning me on. All this disrespect towards a man whose resume is untouchable. Kojima the god will make everyone eat so much fucking crow I can't wait :D

The thing with DS is that it will be impossible to discuss objectively for a few months because on the internet you either love or hate Kojima/Sony.

I don't get that "Kojima/Sony" bit.
Is Kojima and Sony supposed to be synonymous?

Also, I really don't understand why we have some "sacred cows" in the gaming industry that can't be criticized, without people calling you a "hater".

MGSV had a huge budget, this game not so much and they spent a lot of it hiring hollywood talent.

About fucking time.

Nicalis has been screwing over devs for YEARS. Its about time they got called out. Fuck Tyrone.

This is getting annoying: I have received a total of 10 emails in the last 24 hours from game stores, publicizing Borderlands 3, offering me coupons for Borderlands 3, trying to make me aware that IGN gave a great review to Borderlands 3, and so on.

I just opened my community section on Steam, and the first thing I see: Fanatical advertising... Borderlands 3. Yeah, they are advertising a game that is launching, exclusively, on a competing platform, on Steam users' community feed.

I hope the launch comes and goes soon, so this annoying assault to my inbox can stop. :face-with-stuck-out-tongue:

Ico was pretty good, it has issues, it's pretty slow and short, but it's nice for the time.
Maybe a bit obsolete in a way though, it's very early 2000s.

TLOU is just kinda generic and a bit boring to play, like a lot of those cinematic games... it feels like a direct-to-VHS movie in game form really.
It's alright, it's just... rainy sunday afternoon kind of good.

I consider Shadow of the Colossus to be the weakest one actually.
The whole empty world for atmosphere and destroying everything for your own personal gain is just vapid and sooo far fetched as an excuse. Now that storyline is ridiculously overhyped.
And once you know how to grad onto the colossi, it's just a long sequence of slow ass climbing, and I don't know many people that like those segments in games.
Honestly I think people watching me play had more fun than I did.

I digged what I saw of Death Stranding, definitely day 0 for me, didn't watch the full video but enough to convince me.

I hope lootboxes get regulated in future so these huge publishers like EA/2K maybe could concentrate on making games rather than casinos.

Darkwood is definitely a gem, very intense game.
