News Epic Games Store

Oh well, such is life.

They're just games at the end of the day.

Of course it's just games. EGS is also just a launcher for games, so why all the noise in the first place?
Why monthly Steam threads where people can celebrate, recommend and talk about games? Why gaming in general? Nobody needs it to survive and there are bigger problems in the world. In the end we'll all die and nobody will remember us after one generation.

Please, do not read to much into sentences like "hurt" or "I'm angry" or "Tim is evil". This is a gaming forum and people are talking about games like it is real business. You see the same thing when it comes to soccer matches, when an author "screws" up a book sequel or greedy TV producers ruin Star Trek.

Everybody knows it's not the end of the world. It's just the linguistic that's being used in hobbyist circles. There is no need to critically observe and weight every word.

The new Test Drive Unlimited game is EGS exclusive:

Why does Epic keep wasting their money on BigBen games? They’re such a mediocre publisher. Overpass, Bee Simulator and Paranoia all have negative-mixed reviews and nobody cared about any of them. Hell nobody noticed Paranoia peacing out from the store for weeks lol

Yes, I assume they will go the Netflix way: fund lots of content for their platform. Content that then stays only on their platform...I don't think they've given up on their dream of making the EGS bascially a virtual console ecosystem/their own little walled garden.

That's fine, which is what we said from the beginning.

If Epic wants to second (or first?) party games, that's what they should have done from the beginning. Nobody complains that Half-Life is available exclusively on Steam. Epic should revive Jazz Jackrabbit because Unreal Tournament is dead on arrival with Fortnite still around.

Epic probably has a multi-game deal with bigben, similar to Annapurna and Ubisoft.

WRC8 was pretty good according to the reviews, no idea if it sold well on EGS. Bigben's upcoming bike game is on Steam afaik.

After watching just a tiny bit of that NoClip video on Hades I cant understand how any Dev can say that releasing on Eggs over Steam is better for them, other than the bucket of money given by Tim. There is so much more direct feedback and data from Steam its not even funny. Those Devs lose a lot of respect from me (and a sale).

I do realize this is a hobbyist forum and we may get hyperbolic now and again on purpose. I just wanted to be sure, as I got the sense some people had really started to take physical and emotional tolls from the entire EGS situation, which I would hope isn't the case.

They dont own Blands though right? They just publish it? I should have clarified by saying TakeTwo's own internally developed games.
I'm not sure they're making a distinction. I think with Borderlands 3 and RDR2 they are weighing up what the best lengths of exclusivity are. They probably have a lot of data now from both games (two big hitters with varying lengths of exclusivity), and judging by the fact that they are pushing Borderlands 3 on Steam really hard, I expect they feel even 6 months of exclusivity is probably too long for them for a big name AAA. I'm questioning if we'll even see more long-term exclusives from TakeTwo going forward because they've probably seen the data, and that data tells them a lot of their customers will wait 1, 6 or even 12 months for Steam. And when you're making a lot (or all) of your games live services with DLCs and microtransactions, the last thing you want is a significant portion of your customer base waiting months for your game to release elsewhere.

I'm calling it: if they do another exclusive, it'll be 1-2 months. But that's obviously riding on whether Epic bothers with those sorts of exclusives going forward, which also depends on the data they have too.

I think Epic is past the point of free games adding new real users lol.

I think the point now is to not lose users, free games is the only thing going on for they for a while now, they don't even have any big exclusives anymore and the vast majority of big names for this year is already announced for Steam. Brandon Jones summarized, on the Easy Allies podcast, how he utilizes EGS and is pretty much how I see the common EGS user, just login to redeem the free games and never play it or continue to play Fortnite.

Yeah, I am just scratching my head with them slowly increasing the number of free games. There is a reason why EA also stopped their free games after gifting a ton, in the end you are just paying to get the same users.

Man I hope not. I love XCOM. It would be reeeeeeally annoying.

I've been worried about xcom3 too. I'd head out to the kitchen and flip the table at first probably, but then I'd remember that XCOM generally could use at least a year of bug fixing. I guess after that I'd put the table back.

Until EGS supports cheevos I an mentally not able to play any of the freebies.

Why the fuck is it taking so long for EGS to provide cheevos, it took Stadia just a few weeks.

Everything to get people into launching their store I guess. Meanwhile, the number of people saying that they won't bother to buy indie games anymore is increasing at an alarming rate. But hey, we have competition now, right?

i'm sure all the devs are happy about this too ... especially the ones that didn't get a payout from papa Tim

I just noticed that Humble Bundle is providing either a Steam or EGS key for Metro Exodus.

Upon purchase you will be granted a choice to redeem via Steam OR Epic Games key

I'm guessing this will happen to Borderlands 3 when it releases on Steam.

Thats the way to do it!

Game will not be eggsclusive wich is a relieve, I'm curious to know if is just Undead Labs doing this of if MS will start to release their games on EGS also.

I remember Spencer saying that he wanted to release MS' games on EGS, but that Epic wouldn't allow him to do so if he released these games on "a certain other storefront".

After this announcement, Microsoft jacked up the CAD price for the game on Steam from 33.99 to 39.99. Wonder if its because they wanted to keep it consistent with EGS's lack of CAD support

Awesome.
Edit: Lol they increased the price here too.

thanks, Tim

also - they jacked up pretty much all the prices ... seems they have forgotten to set them and were just using volvo's recommendations before ... but we can't have that, of course ... gotta squeeze poor people

Microsofts prices are completely insane. Even Gears Tactics is €70 here in Europe. XCOM 2 was €49.99 on release.

Yeah I noticed it was a bit strange. Ori has been $39.99CAD since it went up for preorder and Gears Tactics is 79.99.

Thankfully the individual Halo titles still use the Steam recommended price in Canada and only cost 10.99 each instead of $13.49.
