News Epic Games Store

Managed to play 1 match in Predator: Huunting Grounds. Even with crossplay enabled it took me forever to find a match and the game is really rough and I really dislike the climbing controls.

Real shame cause I really like the Aliens and Predators universe.

Pretty much all negative impressions everywhere.

So I guess Sony releasing it on EGS is just a cash-grab for Sony.

When they announced it was multiplayer-only. That was a red flag. VR was another.

HOB is free this week and DRM free for anyone about that life.

MIght give it another go, bought it at release but it never played well with 10 series cards, horrible framerate spikes and hitching so I refunded. They never bothered to fix it.

Those thirsty suits at deep silver love money so much that they even make remasters exclusives... plus that way you can avoid the debate about giving the game at a discounted price or free for existing owners.

....I can't even be mad at deep silver for this. If tim's that much of a sucker that he'll pay for a remaster of a game no one cares about that looks like someone went into reshade and nonchalantly tweaked sliders for a few hours then I'd take that deal too.

If Epic’s exclusive contracts have been any indication I am guessing that for this “remaster” of a game that still works fine on Windows, is the worst game in its respective franchise, and will probably break all the fun mods, they paid 69 gabagoorillian bucks, about three times as many dollars as can fit in our solar system. With the 88/12 split, Deep Silver can graciously give the game a launch discount that brings it from its base price of $40 to a meager $38.

So Tim "delboy" Sweeney is now money hatting glorified patches :-p . To be honest Saints Row has become stale as fuck got bored to tears with the series after 4 so won't be returning to it. Curious why they remastered 3 but not 2 when you consider what a broken mess 2 was on the PC. Anyhoo interms of EGS buying exclusivity I guess it is true "a fool and their money are easily parted", Tim is a shining example of that.

He money hatted the Ghostbusters remaster/remake and the world promptly forgot it even existed.

Another eggs exclusive I care little about. Its funny, i was one of those really pissed off with all the initial Epic bollocks. Now I just don't really care about eggs. It doesn't look like they will make too big an impact on PC gaming for the foreseeable future, just a few exclusives that i can either wait for or pass altogether.

If anything, EGS did a great job learning me which devs and publishers are worth spending my money on and which aren't. I won't even be sad if the next Metro or SR are EGS exclusive. I have no intention of giving a shitty publisher like Deep Silver any more of my money.

Not about Saints Row, which isn't really my thing anyway, but just a random observation... It's interesting how far in the wrong direction EGS is taking PC gaming. I haven't pirated a game I don't already own in probably about 12 or more years. But when games are being eaten up just for the sake of keeping it off my preferred platforms, I'm surprised at how often I look at that as the best option. Especially as a linux user, and in light of their publishing scheme.

EGS was legitimately a threat a while back but PC gamers seem to have actually voted with their wallets. I don’t mean to pull a “gamers rise up” thing here but I have never found the codboycott.jpg meme to be empirically true, it it was we’d be looking at a sequel to the DMC reboot and Hitman Absolution 2 right now. As it turns out making your marketing strategy that of trying to attract children with no finances and actively antagonizing everyone else doesn’t work great.

I’m optimistic that future EGS exclusives will be just as pathetic. I have one last big risk in that I fear that whatever Rocksteady’s making will be an exclusive, and that will be what hurts me the most... but I’ll figure it out.

Customers and PC gamers did win the first battle. Epic is still a threat but they will be contained and eventually defeated if we stay vigilant, continue to oppose them and vote with our wallets. For the moment though I am enjoying the sight of the games industry having egg on its face after trying so hard to discredit the anti-moneyhat effort and convince people that gamers would capitulate and "follow the games".

I basically never play remasters of games I already finished (even if they are my favourite game of all time e.g. PS:T)

Do it for him.

This is a bit to "early victory", i don't feel the gaming press or industry as a whole really changed their stance. Some devs might have caught on, but Epic doesn't stick to one thing long enough to learn any lesson before they're on to the next fuck up

I neither expect them to nor care about them changing their stance. I celebrate their failures as wins for customers. I'm sure they'll keep trying and I'm sure they will keep failing, as long as we keep opposing them.

Or someone who has a disturbingly self-centered view of the world, jury's still out. I do find his writing a little overrated.

Objectively, yes, it is a bit overrated. Withing the realm of videogame writing I stand by my original post.

He's a good writer in that realm, I would agree that far. But I never thought he was that amazing, especially not compared to others in that same industry. Hell, the obvious example would be Disco Elysium. His recent work on PoE did absolutely nothing for me.

That being said, tastes and all that, I didn't mean to really denigrate him and sorry if it sounds that way. More that there's something about him and the whole Obsidian thing happening on the Codex that had a really foul smell despite my complete agreement that in all likelihood, Urquart is to blame.

Also, I completely agree with your earlier post regarding the EGS and the anti-moneyhat reaction.

Don't worry about it, I never have issues with people expressing their opinions. I am a Codex member and I am quite familiar with the situation so I fully understand your point of view. It's obvious that there's some bad blood between Avellone and people at Obsidian and I'm not fully convinced either that only one party is to blame.

That’s going to go on forever. DMC5 still had game journo reviews unfavorably comparing it to the reboot six years later. The important thing is that it just doesn’t matter. If EGS becomes a footnote, which it is well on its way to, it’s not going to be able to claw back in.

The real problem after that will be this trend of publishers all wanting their own launchers - and even that’s starting to cave, given Bethesda and EA gradually coming back into the fold.

So, I've made a video about that SR3 remaster and it's exclusivity on EGS, and I was surprised to see that it got more dislikes than usual. Today some of these guys are finally commented, and yeah, that's exactly type of comment that you could expect:

I was going to explain to him why he's wrong, but on the second thought, it's really not worth it, people like this not even playing on PC and came in only to shitpost. Btw video in the question for those who've missed it:

World War Z is actually quite fun. I wonder if it's a full Epic exclusive. It's been 1 year the 16th april.

Maybe they're content not to hype Steam release given how well their EGS release slot went. I'm sure it's empty now, but what do they care at this point?
