How did they get those sale numbers and what does the colour code mean?
Top of first slide. I assume it based on their estimations.

Green = Likely in "Test Flight" event
Orange = Secured or in negotiation for free game

So the last 2 won't see more money from EGS unil epic gets their money back ?
correct

those that have lifetime recoup MGs, does that mean they're exclusive until they meet that threshold?
nope, it means they don't get a penny from egs sales until they re-earn the money Tim gave them for egsclusivity ;)

Wow. I can't believe those MGs. Those devs made out like bandits. I wonder what they paid for Shenmue.

Detroit was 6 months, right? I wonder if that 10mm counts for all the games.

Mechwarriors devs literally stated they sold "houndred of thousands" of copies.
i think they were doing pre-orders on their website before they announced they aren't releasing on steam ... so they probably counted those in

I find it hilarious that Phoenix Point's exclusivity cost Epic nearly three times as much as Tony Hawk.
might be because they had to sell out all their KS backers

also another reason - i'm fairly sure (like 95% sure) THPS was supposed to be the first bnet exclusive (instead of Crash 4) and activision wasn't exepcting to make much money out of it on PC anyway (they might be greedy, but they're not stupid - there's no way in hell they thought a non-cod bnet exclusive would sell gangbusters) - hence the $4m

No Man's Sky
Europa Universalis IV

Epic is getting bargains on Ubisoft games. I'm pretty sure they only paid $64k for For Honor.

Thanks, man.

did we know that total free games buyout in 2020 was 100 million dollars? (only 11 mio without test flight event)
I had missed that:

That would leave $89m cost for test flight event:

Assuming: Handsome Collection + CIV 6 was $31m per:

So $58m for

  • Conan Exiles
  • GTA V
  • ARK Surival Evolved

Assuming $1.5m for each CE & ARK

estimated GTA V cost:

$55 m

Unless I missed some game?

"Stellula" might be Farming Simulator '19
True.

Stellula is Farming Simulator 2019.

Eel is Kingdom Come Deliverance.

Albacore is Assassins Creed Syndicate.

Fall Guys was supposed to come to EGS in Q4 2020.

True.

Yeah I checked that site. Also looking at some other names, Eel probably refers to Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Albacore refers to some Ubisoft game. Looking over some news articles, KC: D was an EGS freebie in early February 2020 so it's probably in that same time range.

Kingdom Come 1.5 million ?

On one hand, it is pretty damn low for such masterpiece of a game and quite new one at that.

On the other, it is 10% of its entire budget, just for a week long giveaway, so...not that bad.

I missed that table for some reason. :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat: And For Honor cost $63 k. cf. News - Epic Games Store

Not sure whether Troy figures were known.

EGS is a trap to catch lapsed Fornite players.

Same with Fall Guys x Fortnite.

Same with Rocket League.

End of 2019 sales. You won't get a more accurate breakdown than that.

No idea about the distinction between New User EGS and All EGS New Users. :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

Behavior during the first 5 days (of what?*) w.r.t. wishlists is different from behavior w.r.t. purchases: Borderlands 3 is the best-selling game on EGS, and only comes fourth in terms of wishlists.

*it could be the first 5 days after the store page was published.
I also appreciate the fact that people wishlist the upcoming free game of the week. :lul:

Risks for EGS staff (no idea what MIT means):

Fortnite concurrent #s on EGS are really low from these leaks. I thought they would be much bigger.

But it explains why they only make 8% of all revenue on PC now.

CSGO and Dota 2 on Steam are both bigger than Fortnite on EGS.

After Broken Fang the CSGO #s are probably doubling the Fortnite #s. I don't see how they expect to make EGS grow and be profitable if Fortnite is declining. I'm more and more leaning towards them raising that 12% cut to 20% or something like that. Otherwise EGS will never be profitable.

Also if Playstation made 46% of all revenue in 2018/2019...then peak Fortnite #s on PS4 must have been 2-3 million. Really crazy.
