It's an absolute nonsense. That Humble Bundle creator (Wolfire) vs Valve lawsuit looks better than previous. But sounds awfully like "we wanna distribute Steam keys without actually releasing on Steam, thus Steam is bad for not footing bill without anyway to get revenue".

reading the lawsuit they are angry at steam cause forced key distribution and that they broke down the keyless activation on bumbleOf all developers, shouldn't Wolfire know that Steam keys are generated for free and can be sold on other stores without giving Valve 30%?
Imaging someone picking EGS key from Humble Choice...Imagine suing Valve for forcing Steam-games to be released on Steam
Wolfire is better known as Humble Bundle (before sold to IGN)

It's clearly infringing on Humble Bundle's rights to be the gaming store equivalent of parasitic leeches.I feel like it is completely ridiculous.
Steam is basically the only significant commercial platform where game developers can create keys for free and sell them elsewhere; and they decide to sue Valve for not allowing that in a completely unlimited way bypassing any revenue for Valve at all, rather than suing everyone else for not allowing it in the first place?
What?
Whew. Is it still as big as it used to be?
Yeah, it's literally how they made their millions and helped "devalue" indies.Of all developers, shouldn't Wolfire know that Steam keys are generated for free and can be sold on other stores without giving Valve 30%?
Pressure. What is actual expected outcome of those Valve trials? I mean if they lose/win Steam still be the most popular store and those others are just they don't magically become any better places.
If they win indie devs just run back to Steam and those other places are then just ghost towns. If they lose, they just lose and lose some money and same outcome.
I mean it's better than the lawsuit that used only Tim Sweeteners tweets. It's very very low bar to beat.I feel like it is completely ridiculous.

yup, pretty much thisAll these complaints and lawsuits are always doomed to fail. If devs want a better cut, they should demand that and fight for it in an organised manner. Don't preach about fairness and monopoly - that's not what this is about and everyone can easily debunk those emotional arguments. Just say outright that you want a better cut and then do something about it.
You got the only one! So which game was it?
Lol at that 43% saying that they should take 10% or less, absolutely delusional.
I don't know much about the gaming industry except what some coworkers tell me, but if I compare it with other tech related stores, I would be very surprised if anything below 10% is profitable, operating costs always go around that, and even then if operating costs are let's say 7% and you take 8% you aren't making any ''real'' money unless you have another source of income, which is the case of Epic.
Yeah the headline is about developers thinking 30% is too much, but even a large number of them think that Epic's cut is too high. According to Tim, operating costs are about 7% so 5% is unprofitable. I don't know the magic number, and there probably isn't a magic number with all the variables in play.
They want to prevent people from moving to Steam, thus losing 30%.
So many company do not allow existing customer to take advantage
Nier replicant - Go to gamefaqs and look at the Nier FAQ, then i go to the Fextralife site and look at their walkthrough. Done. Simple.Hmm, installing Destroy All Humans and musing with the idea of starting Nier Replicant. But fuck if those guides are not super confusing. Not surprising unfortunately, websites are after the clicks, the more guides the better.
I can already smell Tim's smug tweet. As part of our commitment to empower every PC game creator to achieve more, starting on August 1 the developer share of Microsoft Store PC games sales net revenue will increase to 88%, from 70%.
Funny, I remember that lawsuit of Trickle down economics (can't remember the name) vs Valve that claimed for some unknown reason that the Microsoft store (on PC) had a 15% cut.Continuing Our PC Gaming Journey in 2021 and Beyond - Xbox Wire
We’ve talked often about our “player-first” approach to gaming over the last few years. In the past, that may have meant different things to different people, especially for those who identified strongly with being a console gamer, a PC gamer, or a mobile gamer. I mean, they're paying most developers to be on the store (gamepass). They honestly shouldn't be charging anyone to put their game up on that store.
Yeah but at the very least Microsoft is doing some actual competition by not keeping their games exclusive to their store and instead trying to offer non-walled garden benefits to use their shit.As a customer/player/gamer/consumer whatever you wanna call it, I don't care about the dev cut a store takes at all, I buy on the platform/store that serves my needs the best.
