Valve should do a tier for small self publishing devs where they collect only 12%, but the game would not appear on any page on Steam besides its own, remove all the payment options where the cost would exceed Valves cut, like Steam cards and cash options, can't generate keys, can't use the community hub or any of Steamworks, Would small devs be happy with more "potential" money but less tools or visibility?:shrugblob:
Punishment is not the way, Chuck.

Problem is that the commission cut discourse is not centralized and everyone goes like a chicken without head following one narrative or the other instead of explaining why one has a 30% cut and what does it does to the platform and why the other gets 12% and what does it does to the other platform.

But punishment is not the way. :cat-heart-blob:

One thing regarding store cuts and in particular Steam that I've almost never seen discussed, and that I think is relevant from a consumer (and in particular enthusiast) perspective is what it means for legitimate third party stores like GMG and CDkeys.

Currently, there's a 30% range on digital "retail" prices for games which gives those stores the opportunity to provide ~20% off deals at launch for a huge number of games, deals I generally use when I buy a new game.

Shrinking the margin means shrinking that range, and since the "retail" price will never go down this might actually mean that I would end up paying more for many new games.
Yeah, these convos always seem to completely ignore Steam's third party key market. Steam already has competition but it's not flashy like Tim Sweeney being an ass on twitter so it doesn't count and fuck if lowering the industry standard kills those stores, right?

I think I'm not buying enough anime.... there are a lot items on my wishlist on sale... crap.

But I'm also curious about Iron Harvest and its having a free weekend (had an RTS "binge" last week playing all the Homeworlds).

And also also, I'm going to need a site/app to go through my wishlist and tell me if something "old" had it's regional price double/triple in the past months.... it's getting to be a "common" thing :(

I have a truly stupid question, sorry! Can LCD displays get burn-in from persistent activation? For instance, if a part of the screen is often white (such as Genshin Impact's UID thing), does it pose a risk of deteriorating it? I can't quite believe it given that I'm not using an OLED display but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Generally no. Some types of (particularly older VA) displays can have some retention of images they displayed for a long time, but that's generally non-permanent.

Thanks. My old laptop has pretty bad burn-in but I think it has something to do with its own model given that the screen was changed once and the burn-in returned within weeks with the same pattern.

Think I might grab this:

I remember Jim_Cacher 's positive impressions about Cho Dengeki Stryker, and watching the trailer/opening it also seems it has a JAM Project opening song, which is insta bonus points.

Might wait until summer seal for Amazing Cultivation Simulator though, don't think I'd get to it soon.
But I read so many webnovels (like 1 millions+ words per month on average, probably), that it feels like I have to get it eventually.

I read the discussion between the 2, its some werid stuff, Raphael van Lierop is talking about the present and Kevin Hovdestad is talking about a potential far away future. Doesn't look like the second person knows much about what his talking, and is just hopeful that he will be able to get more money sometime in the future, where the first person knows they shit because they already gone through selling a successful game.

Nothing exists in a vacuum, the 12% won't change things in the short term but it's another factor to take, 12%, more features, huge gamepass offering, exclusives... everything counts in the long term (saying it out loud seems like Microsoft has done more than Epic on the competition side lmao)

Valve sure is making their own calculations about how and when apply changes to their policies but as I said, when your main source of income are royalties it's pretty normal to be hesitant about joining a potential race to the bottom, Microsoft announcement doesn't change anything in the grand scheme of things but adds yet another little stone in Valves path.

It would be neat to have multiple competing stores, but sadly some of the players in the market don't want just a lot of money, they want all of the money in the long term.

That's a terrible approach, however, you raise an interesting point. How much market you lose by having to drop "expensive" payment methods?

I saw it earlier and I have so many questions:

Nier: Still plagued by 15 fps drops when disabling steam input. This is getting on my enjoyment. I may need to try specialk, but I’m pretty lost on how to install and configure it.

Li Kao It might depend on your PC specs at this point. I right-clicked Replicant in Steam and disabled Steam Input, then i opened Nvidia control panel and in app specific settings i chose Replicant and set Max Frame Rate to 60 so it is only limited to 60 for Replicant.
In Replicant i have my screen set to 2560x1440 Borderless Window and i was getting a solid 60fps on my 2700X, RTX 2070 but the mouse cursor was annoying me so i downloaded SpecialK from either a link here or there was a link on Steam or Reddit - it's version 21.04.04.

I opened the zip and copied Plugins, Servlet folders and SKIF exe and SpecialK64 dll to my Steam Replicant folder, the one with the replicant exe in it, i then renamed SpecialK64 dll to dxgi dll and that's it. Local install for SpecialK done. When you run Replicant you will see the SpecialK banner at the top of the screen.

I pressed Ctrl+Shift+Backspace to get the SpecialK menu and under Framerate Limiter set the limit to 60 and the checkbox was ticked, then i went to Input Management, Mouse cursor and enabled Hide when Not Moved with a delay of 1 second, i then went to Screenshots and disabled the Steam Hook so i wouldn't get multiple screenshots and the camera noise. That was it.

I have heard that Replicant does drop frames at certain areas even on beefy machines but so far i haven't seen or felt anything bad but i am only in the early stages of Part 1 so maybe the taxing area is later on?

yeah exactly , i originally thought they are both devs with the Kevin one being dev of some egsclusive .
With quick check Raphael is dev of The Long Dark so he must know a lot..... but Kevin seems to be the usual EGS shill (based on previous tweet) , just acting like he is a dev

I go back and forth on getting it when my PC is fixed but I was just reading the performance thread on era and some people are still having a ton of issues.
Like I said a few days ago I'm done with this crap. It pains me because I really love this game but I'm done giving my money to companies that can't be bothered to release a polished product and expect the user to waste their time fixing it.
A few months ago I replayed FFXIII-2 and the amount of shit I needed to do to fix everything that is wrong with it is insane. You even have to disable cloud saves to keep the game from crashing constantly! I mean, wtf?!

Thanks for this. Every bit helps.
I don’t think my PC itself is struggling, the drops are random and don’t always happen. GPU and CPU are far from 100% too. I really think I’m subject to the famous controller bug.

I think this is the guide i used to lock 60fps and hide the mouse. It looks familiar even down to the ms paint mouse writing on the images.
Like i said, disabling Steam Input in Steam and setting max frames to 60 for Replicant in Nvidia Control Panel was all i needed to do but i pulled down SpecialK for the mouse cursor hide feature.

I am using an 8BitDo SN30Pro+ controller and it's wired so i may not have had the controller issue in the first place but apparently that's sorted automatically by SpecialK for DS4 controllers but i didn't notice any difference. so i didn't change any other SpecialK settings than the ones i listed above..

Downunder.
Kaldaien released SpecialK/RadicalReplicant v0.5.0 last night and that seems to improved my GPU usage and merged the framerate unlocker mod into it. Frametime graph looks much better now.

I'd be paying more for the games I do but at launch, but I'd certainly be buying less games at launch without a 20 to 22% discount on a preorder and waiting for a decent sale after launch. But I guess devs would be better off getting a larger chunk of the sale at 88% of $30 than 70% of $60 since they'd be getting a bigger share. :shrugblob:

I just hope they hurry up with the unpackaging of distributed games (and it's not just empty rhetoric), then I could actually consider Gamepass again.
from what i understood this potencially means unpacakaging of all the upcoming WinStore/GP stuff ... but sadly i doubt thy will ever try to de-UWP stuff thats already therein this weeirdass semi-UWP for most of gamepass do ... or the absolute crazyness that FH3 and few others have (encrypted appx withs crambled filenames).

Would be nice to have at least the first parties like Crackdown 3 or Halo Wars 3 unpacked , but i doubt this will be more than just adding the possibility not to use appx .

Amazing Cultivation Simulator is, well...amazing.

Lots of people compare it to RimWorld, but it’s so much more complex, with far more moving parts if you can imagine. Kinda like comparing Civ to EU4.

Also a damn fine RPG to boot.

Infinite seems like a lock for an Oct/Nov release. Maybe even earlier for Sept but probably not. New Forza and Psychonauts 2 should be coming in the fall too.

That just leaves Starfield. I'm starting to doubt it comes this year but If it does it will be a ridiculous winter for Xbox.

I feel that they want to release Starfield in this year like how they did with Fallout 4 (release shortly after reveal), but I am totally okay with it being an early 2022 release.

Another interesting rumor:

Also this. Definitely look like a sequel is coming. The character models are new.

The reason I think its not coming is there hasn't been any legit leaks of the game so far. That year when Fallout 4 released the entire setting of the game in Boston/Mass was leaked months before reveal. Its been very quiet this year and I doubt Bethesda was able to stop the leaks internally.

On the flip side the development should be sped up for it since there is no PS4/PS5 version for them to work on anymore. That could make it come faster and have less bugs. Either way I'm now leaning towards late next year release. So wtvr hopefully the game is very good.

Oh yeah, that sounds reasonable, too. Anyway, I also hope it is good. Very excited to get my hands on a Bethesda new IP.

I haven't been following World of Demons too closely, but from what I hear, it doesn't sound like its not coming to PC would be any great loss. it was originally developed as an F2P game and apparently that comes through in the final version

now, where the hell are the PC versions of Shinsekai, World End Club, and Little Orpheus though

Just like that console exclusive platinum game wonderful 101 or bayonetta or vanquish
Too bad it will never get on PC ever

Was it really said Bayonetta and Vanquish wouldn't go PC? What was the rationale since it was multiplatform to begin with? I wouldn't say Nintendo allowing 101's remaster should be the expected norm, companies tend to not be charitable in any way and permission was stated as needed for that, and granted. It'll soon be about the same amount of years it took Bayonetta 1 to come to PC for 2 and there's not anything suggesting it's going multiplatform other than knowing they granted that wish for Wonderful 101 in the past so they may well keep having the same relationship with Platinum, if Platinum ever asks.

I meant that more as a there's so many game anymore listed as xyz only that down the line being "Oh by the way it's coming to __!" they just wait to say it so people buy it on the only announced platform is what it seems like

Realistically I have no idea it just always seems that way to me whenever I see something that's neat

It's neat, would be rad, just saying. Like Shenmue 3, corporations like SEGA wouldn't very often give an IP they own to its original creator to do his thing without them. But it happened that one time. Which doesn't mean Yuji Naka, also without SEGA for a long time now, can ask for Sonic, and receive it. Or Yu Suzuki in a similar situation can ask for Virtua Fighter and all his other works. Maybe something small, but maybe they don't even care to even ask for anything. But if something takes a decade + to arrive then it's hardly gone PC proving someone who said so right, it's a retro re-release at that point :x
