After my audio upgrade last month, with my new speakers being bigger than I expected and having to keep them behind my monitor, now I have enough space for a bigger monitor, so I'm thinking about also getting a new monitor to replace my old "cheap" 24" TN panel (Asus VP247H).

Been checking a bunch of options for the price I can afford (300€ max), when taking into consideration what I have available here, I think the Gigabyte Aorus G27Q may be the most balanced option overall?

I tried looking into the LG 27GN800-B, but while it has excelent response times, the contrast and blacks seem to be rather bad.

And also tried looking into MSI options, but the only ones available here for 300€ or less are 1080p ones, but at 27" I'd rather go for 1440p.

Why did you bounce off it in the first place?
This is probably more on me. But I did too many of the side quests. Kind of burnt out on them.

Plus I really dislike forced stealth missions. I also didn't like the chase quests either. It was at the second one of them I gave up.

so it wasn't bad mechanics, to a degree, or at least outright broken mechanics - like the swinging or combat, it's just you didnt jive with the mechanics as used?
Seems fair. As my last spiderman game was on the Gamecube, I'm worried the swinging wont be as fun

The game is very Ubisoft-y, you get like 4 types of activities and it's pretty much doing that for the entire side content.
The traversal is lots of fun and the combat is serviceable.

Yeah, a lot of it was on me and my tastes. Although some of the mechanics are a bit dated now. I can see why it is extremely popular and I will definately be grabbing it on a decent sale. For me it just isn't worth the asking price.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!!

The time has finally come! This is a game I've been looking forward to since it was announced and one I really wanted to experience with everyone. We're going to be starting Cult of the Lamb today! :blobcheer:

After some hurdles trying to get the Twitch integration stuff set up I believe we should be good to go. I have a general idea of how it all works and I'm excited to see how much chaos it'll allow everyone to cause.

We'll be starting in about 10 minutes.



Be sure to take a peek in the co-op thread as well if you have an interest in co-op stuff. I shared some ideas a couple nights ago about the thread itself and about maybe bringing our events back.

Make a daily budget after all the bills are paid. Like for me I don’t have much money so I have a daily budget of 5€. If I want to buy something for 10€ I need to wait one day. And so on.
This is basically the foundations of budgeting. I remember scraping by on about £75 a week and this was the only way I made ends meet.

If you can, what I do these days is have a “pay lag” where I have a bills account (that my wage is paid into) and a disposable income account, which I transfer into at the end of the month.

I get paid on the last working day of the month, and I let that money sit in my account as a buffer to pay bills and absorb any surprises (such as annual bills or bill increases). Then when the next payslip comes in, whatever is left from the previous one goes into my disposable income account and I can just spend that freely. And whatever’s left at the end of the month in the disposable account currently goes on my credit card, but the long term plan is to put it into savings to help pay for my next PC. ;)

It sucks when you get a promotion because you’re kind of waiting a whole extra month to enjoy the pay raise, but it’s invaluable to help me budget in luxuries without having to worry about overspending or bill increases.

So had to nip into my local town today to pick up some new glasses. So decided to have a look around the likes of Game and CEX. And I was reminded of why I don't generally use CEX. They had a 512GB model of the Steam Deck for £900. Also one of the persona games for £120. Robbing bastards.

Jagged alliance looks cool, I've liked all of them even if they're kind of janky. They can keep shitting them out and ill buy them because that's what i want from that type of game just more story with vaguely new stuff.

Sometimes that's like literally all i want from a "new" version of a game. Don't have to reinvent the wheel

Great playing weekend.
I’m not going to spend many hours on Spiderman since I platinumed it on PS4 but it’s nice to play it portable.
I’m not sure if sell my Switch but meanwhile…

Having finally upgraded my CPU, I can confidently say that Halo Infinite is one of the worst PC ports of any game that I have ever played. How is it even possible for variable framerates above 100 FPS to feel worse than 60? Why the hell can't the game even maintain 60 FPS at 1440p, on an RTX 3070 Ti and an i5 12600k, installed on a decent performance NVME drive? What? How?

Like, the only game I can think of that had a worse port would be Final Fantasy XIII, which somehow ran worse after I had upgraded my GPU back in 2014. I'm pretty sure Microsoft vetted that version of the game for PC Gamepass, thinking about it.



I'll need to look at that THQ Nordic presentation. It's nice having a publisher of smaller-budget releases. Alone in the Dark could be interesting if it's based on the original games and not the "I DON'T HAVE YOUR STONE AND FUCK YOU ANYWAY" reboot.

I tried the Diofield Chronicle demo.

This is super frustrating.
  • Apparently someone actually tried with the PC version, since it supports up to 8k resolution. But for some unfathomable reason it seems to use a pre-populated, fixed list of resolutions to offer, rather than simply querying what the system supports.
    This is an UE4 game, the pre-populated list is too large for anyone to tell me that they tested all those resolutions in detail and don't want to ship "untested" ones (Note: this was always a laughable argument; just listing it for completeness since I heard it before), and as far as I can see any arbitrary resolution is supported in borderless mode anyway.
  • This is doubly annoying since the real use case for fullscreen (rather than borderless) mode would be DLDSR: the game has "3" AA options: FXAA, TAA and "MSAA". The latter is exceedingly surprising in what looks like a standard UE4 renderer. So of course I tried it immediately. I'm as suprised as you are to report that it does absolutely nothing. I always wonder how this stuff happens. How can anyone get a setting through all the effort it takes to release it (menu localization etc.) and it does absolutely nothing? Who is the graphics engineer who decides on what to put in the menu and signs off on this? How do they not do the bare minimum to check/understand what they are doing?
    Anyway, FXAA predictably shimmers like shit, so the only actual option is TAA. And of course TAA is great AA and makes for a very stable image, but it's blurry AF. And of course the game doesn't have a built-in render resolution slider that goes above 100%, even though UE4 gives you that basically for free, so you'd like to use DLDSR, but then you can't do that comfortably because of the whole resolution list clusterfuck. Whew.
  • Talking about UE4: unsurprisingly the trademark UE4 shader compilation stutter is there. I won't even blame S-E too much about this. Sure, you can and should fix this as a game devloper if you decide to use UE, but at this point this is really a case of "Get your shit together Epic".
  • Then the next surprise: a raytracing setting! What does it do? Hard to say, of course none of the settings have meaningful explanations. What it certainly does is get the GPU power from 120W to 330W in the same scene, that's the most noticeable change. Second most noticeable is that reflections flicker like an anthill, even with TAA. Only with side-to-side screenshot comparisons is it then possible to see that they are, in fact, better in terms of realistically reflecting the scene geometry.
  • That's it regarding graphics, but the frustration doesn't quite stop there. Despite them trying to label it as something different, the core gameplay of this is basically an RTS. That's a genre which has a few decades of control and UX refinement on PC, and for good reason. So what do they do? They put a common action on pressing shift while putting the mouse cursor in a specific place. Note: not holding shift while clicking. Pressing shift to perform the action.
  • That action is enqueuing orders, by the way. Initially I was once again positively surprised that this is in the game, but also once again there are baffling decisions that follows a good idea. Here, it's that (i) your queue is only exactly 3 actions deep and (ii) there is only a subset of actions which can be queued. Just why? You went to the effort of programming this system. It's 90% of the way there, implementation wise. Why arbitrarily limit it?
Now all of this would suck regardless of the quality of the game. And it's also far from the worst PC port I've seen. But that's the very reason it's so frustrating: the game seems good: the gameplay seems interesting, the VA is good, the graphics show their budget but are charming enough. And even more than that: someone actually tried with the PC port. It supports framerates up to 144, and the mouse/keyboard controls, while clearly not designed by someone who is familiar with how RTS work, are also not just completely phoned in controller mappings. There are even extra hotkeys for directly selecting units that make use of the extra key real estate of a keyboard, and mouse buttons 4 and 5 have useful default mappings -- not something which can be said for most JRPG PC ports.

That's what makes it so frustrating: people tried, and it's not bad, but it could be so much better if they got someone to work on it for just a few weeks who actually understands how PC games (in terms of graphics options) and the RTS genre (in terms of PC controls) actually function in the 2020s. Or the 2010s for that matter.

Yes, this was a rant. I'd tweetlonger if I knew how -- I'd love for someone at S-E to actually read this and reflect on their actions :p. Feel free to tweet it for me, or put some BGM and an interpretive dance and make a tiktok, or whatever kids do these days to get the attention of a company.

I was surprised when I saw FSR and Ray tracing as things that the game supported.

Now one question, when i boot it says CPU OVERTEMPISSUE during POST, but in the Bios it shows its at 51 Degrees CPU 61 Degrees CPU Package which seems normal?

Can i ignore that?

How are DELL monitors priced in your area? They don't really look fancy, but the panels are solid and their reputation is very very good. Me and a few others in this thread have mid-tier DELL monitors and really got nothin' bad to say about them. They do tend to punch above their weight.

Edit: Just realized Amazon lists these as display port 1.2, but it's really 1.4.

Correct (I’m Spanish) I usually live in Japan but I am on vacation at home with my family, processing visas -I’m trying to change it from specialist to investor- and medical check-ups. ^^

I contacted person who did God of War sharpening removal mod to see if they can do something about Spidy. Unfortunately they don't own the game and have no intention of getting it. Oh well wait continues.

Edit: Just realized Amazon lists these as display port 1.2, but it's really 1.4.
Unfortunately the only Dell monitors available in the shops that I regularly use aren't good for me.
Out of the 3 shops, one of them only has 60Hz Dell monitors, another only has 27" 1080p ones for my price range (and one of them is a curved one), and the last doesn't have any.
