The markup seems rather high, but then again, PC parts has always been obscenely priced over there.

Derrick01 , thanks!)
Actually it's just that the Yen has fallen in price. What you are seeing are less than $100 more than what you would pay in the US
~¥100,000 is about $750USD.
Steam Deck is $650 USD as the most expensive price point and depending on where you are you still have to pay sales Tax. For me it was about $50 USD in California so my grand total was just over $700USD.
With Japan, these prices includes sales tax, other wise they would all be cheaper.
So this does suck because as I have already seen, you have this question of why buy a Steam Deck since you can buy 2 Switches for the same price In Japan or you could just buy a more powerful PS5 for less than that.
More news about the Steam Deck in Japan.
Here is the article
Valveの携帯PCゲーム機“Steam Deck”がいよいよ日本上陸。本日より国内向けの予約受付が開始された。
s.famitsu.com
The author of it also owns a Steam Deck and he seems to like his.
A couple of things, this Article confirms that the Komodo partnership in Japan, it also confirms the TGS thing. It looks like the interview and the information from it, is from mid to late June 2022.
Eric Peterson (former employee of Nintendo of America) will himself be at TGS to show the Steam Deck to people at the event.
The article also mentions how even far back as 2012/13 (when they were designed the Steam Controller that they were thinking of a Steam portable machine but the tech was just not there) this would possibly also explain the "Steam Boy" (SmachZ) and the resemblance, seeing how that thing was taking some keys from the Steam Controller and the Steam Controller did have some Steam Portable in it's early DNA.
It also seems like the main reason for Portal on Switch is because of the Steam Deck, well swing how we are updating the game for Steam Deck, we might as well port it to Switch. I'm guessing that might also include Half Life 2 at some point.
They also mention how they might make different sized Steam Decks, so I guess think of the OG Xbox Duke and the Xbox S controller that Japan got.
I feel like compared to some of the other Steam Deck interviews this one has some extra information that those other ones didn't have, seeing how they interviewed 4 different people that they didn't interview for those IGN preview videos.
So close yet so far
Iirc Komodo is the rebranded name of Degica Games so you are not wrong haha
That makes sense, I remember hearing something about that,
Also I tried to get some more information but it seems that that Steam Page was seeing very heavy traffic even after 1 hour with people placing pre-order.
Also it looks like with this SEA you don't even need to place a deposit or anything, you just have to sign up and that's all
