Meanwhile their Deluxe pack (which is just the H2 DLC people already owned but didn't carry over) never goes on sale. I would've easily played another 30 hours of H3 WOA if it did.

FML

I had given up hope of it ever coming to Steam, but the fact that they keep updating their Preview version with RTX and such gives me hope they are considering it for a multiplatform release.
I'm not saying it is coming to Steam, but releasing it on Steam would be good cover when people accuse them of monopoly behaviour for not releasing it on PS5.

Sure, but behind the facade they are not dumb.

I think xbox is really wary of how vital Steam is becoming for their ecosystem. It's nice when you look at your bank account every month, not much so when you have to sit down and explain your long term plans for your platform/ecosystem.

So, less than 50/50 but still money left on the table has to be tempting.

That ship has sailed, those horses have bolted, or whatever other metaphor you want to use.

Microsoft’s about as likely to have a strong ecosystem on PC as Eskimos are to have a sunny beach.

Never put anything past capitalist dumbasses, mind, but even with the entire Microsoft, Bethesda and ABK first party catalogue, they don’t have the mindshare to sidestep Steam.

All of the above have tried it, at one point all at the same time, and all of them failed.

70% of something, is a millions times more than 100% of nothing. And as long as Steam is growing (which it is) your 70% also keeps going up too.

Meanwhile, behold the field on which the Microsoft Store grows its profit! Lay thine eyes upon it

Thou shalt see that it is barren

I don't disagree. I think they are fucked.

But never underestimate the executive decision making process. If not Phil, or Bond, someone will eventually come along and start the cycle again. Shit be cyclical. (that's if the other parts of the business haven't cracked first or the call came from above yet).

I mean sure, there's a possibility that a Ballmer and Mattrick-era combo of colossal stupidity takes over the company and Xbox again. I mean, if you let a gorilla in a suit become CEO, then one stint with a competent successor is not gonna fix the rot that allowed that to happen in the first place.

But on the flipside, I know it's a bit of a meme to say Xbox is doomed, but Xbox literally is fucked six ways from Sunday if they can't push the envelope on Game Pass subscriptions. Their entire future as an ecosystem gatekeeper in gaming rests on Game Pass becoming sustainable and successful. If they fail, Microsoft just becomes a supersized third party publisher on other people's platforms, and frankly they're half-way there anyway.

In the end, Xbox and gaming is so inconsequential to Microsoft's bottom line that, if any future dumbass leadership team don't even see potential to build their own walled garden, they may just carve it all up and sell it off in the future anyway.

Honestly with how penny-pinching Microsoft is outside of doing the minimum "pro-consumer" gesturing possible, I have no faith in the management of said company. Like I am extremely cautiously skeptical of Starfield especially with the gameplay that we've seen.

Setting aside Game Pass and how their first party games haven't been great at all lately (Because honestly, that's more of a symptom of publicly traded companies in the past 10 years if you look at everything else):

  • Their console UI has become increasingly more incoherent over the years. They got like several different ways of doing the same thing, and their settings menu makes things difficult to find any settings. App/Game pinning likewise I've seen others confused by.
  • They don't allow replacing the internal drives of their consoles (Which are using standard formats), because they want you to only use their overpriced proprietary external drives (The same thing people gave the Vita flack for, which somehow isn't an issue here)
  • Xbox controllers still lack gyro or the play and charge kit that's needed to even charge through the USB port, because Microsoft got paid out by Duracell to actively make their controllers worse and more overpriced (Not even mentioning price of rechargable AAs, and the ridiculously long time they take to charge).
  • Xbox still lacks Bluetooth headset or USB audio support, meaning if you want a headset or use your Xbox on a monitor, you're either stuck to the 3.5mm jack, or something like the Sound Blaster X G6 or SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless where they have an optical out connection.
  • Windows 11 has become such a massive unstable mess (not even taking UX into account) to work with, where enough to where most people are either sticking with Windows 10, downgrading back to 10, or just moving to Linux. Basic features like a vertical taskbar are still MIA.
  • Their Xbox PC client is such a mess that people would rather just have their games on Steam. What they tried with Games for Windows Live isn't going to work this time either. Even their PC ports lack extensive controller support and only support XInput and limited rebinding 99% of the time, despite Microsoft talking up about accessibility.
  • The process of downloading a digital game, let alone a physical copy with patches is a hell I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I was helping a relative install Mortal Kombat XI on their Xbox with the physical copy that comes with the DLC, and I was waiting not only for an install, but another download of 64GB of data. Just for the download to fail and not work on multiple occasions. Same thing happened for HiFi Rush on Game Pass on my PC, I just gave up and bought the game on Steam because every time I verified the files, it got worse.
  • They couldn't even get their more obscure original Xbox games on their back compat list, such as Brute Force. They're selective with their idea of game preservation at best. I know JSRF has song licensing issues, so I won't mention that one.

Like I can confidently say that even if Xbox put their stuff exclusively on their consoles again, I still wouldn't be interested in their output. I didn't have 90-99% of these issues on PlayStation or even the Switch.

What ever happened to Xbox's push for KB/M support on consoles, or VR?

Uncommon times here. I’m playing BG3 and… that’s it. I don’t have a huge drive to buy games, I’m eating with Larian’s CRPG well enough. And my bank account is very glad for it. I only splurged 75 for a key of Starfield premium, in the hope that it can occupy me like BG3, and that’s that.
September Starfield. October Cyberpunk. If I ever get the time, the Original Sin games.

It actually leads me to wonder about the impact of huge hits on other releases sales. It’s obvious not everyone is interested in a huge CRPG, but in what order of magnitude does BG3 is eating other games lunch ? Not even sure you can gauge that.

I’m good.
….but hot :sweaty-blob:

I will buy Starfield when its more mature

as in: has more mature mature content
Oh yeah baby, that's it, put that WD76 into the exhaust port of the plasmatic injector...
And now, to get grout for the home base on Todd Prime, let's get really mature there.

So the next day it releases you mean? Nude mode won't take longer than that.
I said mature.
I can watch naked polygons everywhere. But naked polygons integrated into the story and mechanics? that needs time.
Well, technically they will be integrated, since they'll be nude throughout the story

Soo, finally taking advantage of my dualsense edge while playing Crossbell duology, bound highspeed mode to the right paddle button as a "hold-button-to-enable" and bound highspeed mode to the right FN button as a toggle.

Anyone ordered Starfield special edition off of CDKeys? I see in my country it is the same price as the standard Steam copy. So $30 off.

Wondering if previous early access copies of games give the key at early access or do they only get key with the standard launch day?

A “Special Trial Version” of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be included with Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, publisher SEGA and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced.

“As you may have been surprised to see, we’re including a special trial version of next year’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth as bonus content with purchase of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name,” said Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama in a developer update. “As the name implies, special content like scenes not included in the main game will be unlocked after completing Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.”

All I can say is that YuPlay didn't give me a key, but they mention that I should have it on the 1st at the latest, so that includes early access.

In my experience they do tend to send codes for early access. They did for Remnant 2 and Back 4 Blood when I preordered those at least.

Belgium
I'm back home after spending two weeks at the Belgian coast, enjoying the nature and silence.

Actually the Belgian coast is an endless wall of apartments, filled with tons of people 😣

But anyway, I'm so happy that the Steam Deck exists! It's awesome to continue the games I was playing at home. Especially the Yakuza games look and play great on the Deck.

Today I started the free trial of Forza Horizon 5. The graphics are great and I like the handling of the cars. But I'm not sure I want to spend dozens of hours in this game. There are so many options to fine-tune the difficulty that I don't feel the same satisfaction when winning compared to games where the devs offer a certain difficulty/challenge. Oh well, two more days to play before deciding if I buy it or not.
