a new semester has started, and alongside it, pains that are too big for me to ignore

i am currently having a breakdown over the math, for the first assignment was non-sensical, and i am ripping my hair out of my head as we speak, this isn't helped by the fact that almost everything around me goes to shit, like my mom having a rather negative reaction when i saved up my money to buy her a new iphone
therefore, i think i'll have a small break and i'll see you guys later

Almost bought Gears 2-3 on Xbox during their last sale, good thing I didn't! Would pay good dollar for a full collection on Steam.

Just wondering. Is it possible to somehow have your own cloud ? Some remote disk space where you can backup what you want, without oversight, and where you could download things from on a whim ?
Pretty sure that's a dumb question and it has been possible for years, but I'm tired.

Also apparently don't bother trying to use Google Drive for this...

update:

nevermind because this breakdown i had over math was the fact that the task had a red herring in the form of information that wasn't relevant to the answer of the question at all

also yes, i am indeed wishing voodoo magic and everything bad on the person who made this assignment

Light the assignment on fire and flip off the professor as you dance wildly on the fires of all the free pallets in the tricounty being on fire
i sometimes wish for the day where i can dance wildly on pallets in fire and flames as i look down on the people who aren't

With how the world is going on (Omicron, Ukraine etc), I honestly don't care anymore. Going to buy some games in the upcoming sale and enjoy life as much as possible.

What are you thinking for series climax in 2029? I'm guessing either tech singularity complete with grey goo (many goos), or alien invasion. Maybe one saves us from the other as a cheap deus ex machina.

In the eyes of alien, human race is probably too stupid to be worthy for invasion :cautious:

I vote on grey goo.

The aliens could be anti-nanite / nanotech. Stuff can be dangerous, and all it takes is one lousy meteor to send organic-life dissolving goo across the galaxy!

Imagine if all this happens and then 2030 everything is just back to normal like the end of a syndicated serial where they want the watcher to be able to watch episodes in any order.

But for real you got the right idea. No reason to focus on things we can't control (the Ukraine situation)

Gears Collection would be pretty cool. I enjoyed Gears 4 and 5, but 2, 3, and Judgment were never released on PC, and Gears 1 UE has been broken on PC for a while now and still hasn't been fixed (apparently, a Windows update a few years ago had the unfortunate side effect of capping the game's GPU utilization at around 40%)

Sounds kind of useful.

Basically if I am playing a game on my Deck and battery is about to die....I would just suspend it and sit at my comp to immediately resume playing while Deck is recharging. Going back n forth pretty convenient.

Also buy a 2nd Deck or Deck 2 in the future. and you have 2 Decks. Play one until battery dies and then pick up the 2nd :coffee-blob:

So I finally hit HR100+ in MH:Rise and think I unlocked the last set of quests and finished that up so now it's just slowly talisman farming, helping friends out and trying other weapon types. Clocked about 80+ hours and I'm ready for Sunbreak.

On the other hand I got Vampire Survivors recently since it looked interesting, a few people here were playing and it was cheap. I've sunk 10 hours in the past 2 days. SEND HELP.

I've noticed something in regards to sales at GOG. They do not go for as deep discounts as they did a couple of years ago.
On my wishlist there, I have a lot of old hands that I know have been discounted down to about €1-€2. Today, the same games never go below, say €5.

I wonder if it's the publishers that have changed it, or GOG due to the "multi-store future".

Tomorrow is my first day back in school (physically) in over 4 years. I have taken some online classes and stuff over the last 2 years but this will be different.

Le Pertti I signed up for a photography class.

Wish me luck.

Its been that long that I don't even know what to bring to a school.

By the way I guess I'm now one of the older people in class

I didn't enjoy the first Gears when it was released on pc, so I didn't play 2 and 3. But I bought Gears 5 last year and it is really good. I'd love to play the first game again, perhaps I'll like them more today than I did back then.

I also quite liked Gears 5 – I would like to continue playing it at some point, as soon as they update EAC to work with Linux :)
Havent played any other Gears of War games though. Curious how well Epic did when they still developed actual games :P

Gear 3 is really good. Epic ending to the original trilogy.

Finished La Mulana EX and started La Mulana 2 (now discounted on Steam at an all-time low!). I'm very thankful these games can exist because there's nothing like them. The way it evokes a sense of perilous (!) adventure as you explore a huge unknown space themed in pseudo-historical mysticism really works for me. Despite all the genre's deep cultural issues, I do enjoy campy archaeological adventure films like The Mummy and Indiana Jones. La Mulana feels like a proper video game version of that. You're out there solving mysteries, puzzles and riddles that go beyond lighting three torches and demand some actual figuring and note taking. You're maneuvering a treacherous environment, whipping skeletons, and you always need to be carefully observing and recontextualizing your immediate surroundings based on stuff you may have seen before. It reminds me a bit of Outer Wilds, if that game was less forthcoming about how its systems worked and minus the loop mechanic.

I'm annoyed that Xbox seemingly can't just port games to PC, they have to be part of some remastered collection that can be sold on Xbox.

Finally finished Journey mode in Tetris Effect, even if it was on the easiest difficulty. The last level, Metamorphosis, was really difficulty.

Do you also bully your coworkers? :thinking-face:

I believe it's a joke. You wrote that you have found your kindred spirit and posts a gif of Michael Scott, someone who bullies their coworkers.

I think I have found a kindred spirit 👏
Just reading further down that thread, he says this:

Hard to take anything this guy says seriously if he thinks Half Life 2 was mediocre, or didn't inspire a ton of games. Hell, I can't even list the number of mods for HL2 that become their own games.
This rando just comes across as a pretty mindless contrarian.
