This person constantly leaks EGS giveaways and Humble Bundles so they are legit. I couldn't decide whether to post this in the Steam thread or EGS thread. I assume the Steam release will happen on the same day as well, but you know how Epic is. :shrugblob:

Eh, I know we’ve disagreed on this before, but I don’t think not buying the game is really sending the right message. If anything it further justifies the developer taking Epic’s cash. I think this is especially true for developers not backed by a publisher, like IOI.

I'm not sure this is true. As you said earlier, when people are buying the game on Steam anyway, devs are getting Epic's money PLUS most of the missed money the year after. In my opinion, this is the best possible motivation for devs to accept more moneyhats in the future.

But yes, the most important action against Epic's moneyhatting is not to buy the game on EGS. It seems that the majority of PC gamers waits for the Steam release, which is probable the main reason why Epic is switching to (probably) permanent exclusives using their publishing label. I'm not saying that permanent exclusivity is better than timed exclusivity (on the contrary), but at least the amount of games involved is A LOT smaller.

The best (and now proven) way to deal with EGS games is to let Epic eat shit on the game selling poorly on their store to the point where they’re actively discouraged from continuing the practice, then judge the former exclusives on their merits as a game once it’s out on a platform you’re willing to use.

In the end the only thing that matters to these companies is the bottom line. If they see things that make number go up, they will do them. If people don’t buy the game on Steam after a year they’re not going to link that to their EGS deal, they’re just going to chalk it up to a poor selling game and think they were right to take Epic’s cash.

But that’s just my opinion.
I used to lean more on Geoforce's side of the argument RE: "buying EGS exclusives" but have since come around, nowadays I'm more in line with your view (don't buy ex-EGS games blindly to "prove a point", but its OK to buy games based on merit).

Doing the latter would be a losing proposition if EGS just kept throwing money at new deals in perpetuity, but its clear based on the severely decreased frequency and size of the EGSclusives nowadays that Epic has seen the writing on the wall, and won't keep burning cash on things that don't really move the needle. They were left holding the bag financially on almost all of those deals from the first few years, lol.

Well, this, basically! Hahaha.

----

In the course of my eternal quest to play my PC games damn near anywhere else but in front of my desk, I've bought an Apple TV 4K (2022). - should be arriving in a week or so.

I understand that it has native Steam Link and Moonlight apps available, and based on feedback it seems to do the job quite well (I have the old hardware version of the Steam Link, and there were artifacts and streaming delays pretty frequently). It also should allow me to connect an Xbox or PS5 controller via BT, so I'm not chained to the Steam Link by a USB cable. Anybody else try streaming their PC games off one of these things? :face-with-open-mouth:

While waiting for it to arrive, I'm also planning to mess around with streaming PS5 games to the Steam Deck - I generally boot up the PS5 everyday for 30 minutes to get my Genshin Impact dailies out of the way before proceeding to play games elsewhere. It would be great if I could cut out the middle man and just knock off the gacha chores in bed lol. Streaming it sounds like a lot less difficult than getting GI to play nice with Linux, or setting up dual boot.

Leaker has never leaked anything Steam related as I guess they don't have access to backend like they do with EGS or Humble Bundle, so yeah, it's extremely likely they will release on the same day but they do not know.

For what is worth, GTA Trilogy steam packages have been updated constantly last week so... yeah

That would only matter if EGS would still give out money with a garden hose. which they don't.
The only result that matters now is: If you go exclusive, you will tarnish your brand and maybe even go bankrupt. Go crying to Epic and find out if they care.

My view is they will take a moneyhat if it’s sufficiently big enough, regardless of which customers are protesting or buying/not buying their games on Steam.

Remember, these companies have an obligation to their shareholders to maximise profits. If you do the math then the number of people who will 100% boycott on Steam are too small to affect a company’s bottom line once Epic has written the cheque, so it seems like fruitless denialism on the part of the boycotters unless they’re taking a moral stance, in which case more power to them.

On the flip side, I don’t see buying a former exclusive as rewarding a developer or publisher, but signposting where the money is. We’ve seen this as an effective strategy with companies like Sega, whose only EGS presence is the games Epic paid them for.

I also think the only way to kill this behaviour completely is to not reward the platform that actively encouraged it. So don’t give Epic money - that’s the only way they will stop. They are the source of the poison and if the community kills EGS dead then this behaviour dies with it.

Uhnn, I bought Midnight Suns even though my plate is already full between P5R and Ys VIII (and Death Stranding if I decide to continue).
On the bright side, it was a grey key, no such things as too small discount.

I see Cacher reaction and, not knowing the reason behind it (maybe the super long games ?) I feel compelled to precise that by grey key I just mean a key from a reseller, nothing illegal (that I know of).

Nah, I just thought if it is from places like G2A. As far as I know they are pretty risky.

Yeah sure, not the safest place to buy keys from. I dare to hope I'm buying from less fishy sites, but at the end of the day you are right.

I buy EGS exclusives whenever they release on Steam, usually I don't even know they were exclusives as I don't follow EGS exclusives they way I did before, like Eternal Cylinder, bought it on Steam sale, didn't even remember it being EGS exclusive.

However, I will buy Alan Wake 2 on EGS because Alan Wake is a very special "series" to me.

As I said back when this whole Epic moneyhat thing began, getting Epic to stop giving out moneyhats would be much easier than getting developers to stop taking them. They key was to make these deals unprofitable for Epic and that was fully achieved. I don't think it matters if people buy former Epic exclusives on Steam anymore.

ANYONE EXCITED FOR FOR FORSPOKEN?

YEA?

ANYONE?

NO ONE?

HOW MANY?

I buy a lot of SE shit including just about all of the 147 games they put out in the last 3 months of last year but even I think this one's going to be pretty bad, like stranger of paradise-tier without the memes to carry it.

I'm feeling similar on AW2 if only because while I don't like EGS I can't feel I can really object too angrily for exclusives that are published/funded by the platform holder (similar to having to use Origin for an EA exclusive). It's not ideal but I get it unlike straight up buying exclusivity.

Bright Memory Infinite has gotten a third person mode (or, as they call it, "Perspective-assist Mode")

its a good but short shooter, can recommend it.

Perspective-assist Mode.
Given the skins I guess the focus is on the ASS of assist
:lewdblob:

Command and Conquer Remastered is 3 EURO. That is pretty much a no brainer. It's a remastered done extremely well and works on the Deck. Tank rushes are actually quite doable on the Deck.

Now give me a RA2 and TibSun remake you cowards!

Added both to my cart. A horny game and a proper game, balanced as it should be.

But Stranger of Paradise is genuinly fun

I also don't mind using a publisher's launcher like Origin for 1st party games. But the huge difference between EA and Epic, is that EA never tried to disrupt PC gaming by spending hundreds of millions to cripple other (and better) launchers. I don't want a shitty company like that gaining growth on my gaming platform of choice.

That's what it's all about for me. The more people buying AW2 on EGS, the higher the chance that Remedy's next game will be EGS exclusive as well, and the higher the chance other independent studio's will sign a publishing deal with Epic.

The "I don't like what you're doing, but here's my money so you can/will keep doing it" mentality never made sense to me. But I'm a bit of an idealistic person on that matter I guess. ;)

Yeah, I fucking love Remedy and Alan Wake but no way in hell am I buying AW2 on the EGS lol. They can release it on other stores or they can lose my purchase, simple as that. At this point I'm honestly getting used to them not wanting me to buy their games, so :shrugblob:

Maybe the Max Payne remakes will just launch everywhere without any bullshit. Or maybe they'll launch exclusively on the Rockstar launcher because why the hell not lol.
