For me VR looks like legit interesting tech that simply doesn't fit into my lifestyle.
I'm at an age where the disposable income to finance the hardware is not an issue at all. But the barriers inherent to the tech simply make it unappealing at this stage in the game. Stuff like sensory deprivation, completely "checking out" while using the gear. Just not for me.
It kinda reminds of those wicked-cool racing setups some hardcore enthusiasts have. Complete wheel/pedal/shifter setups with racing chair & screen bolted to a cage. Looks not only incredible, but also incredibly immersive. Yet...I have to take a pass as it's not a fit for my life.
Yeah that's what holds me back from VR too - it just doesn't make sense for how I play games. I can't be wearing something and be that distracted from what's going on around here. I like to be able to check out for a little bit, then pause, do some other stuff, come back to the game in a bit. VR is asking me to commit too much I think. Also I think I'd feel silly whirling my head around while nobody else in the room can figure out what the hell I'm looking at, so it kind of won't work for the casual social aspect of games.
I do wish I could borrow one just to mess around with HL.
