Just finished Ys VIII and damn, what a ride. I thought the game was excellent throughout (except the raids and hunts obviously) and played flawlessly after the patch work from Durante. I haven't played a Ys game in quite some time and finishing this made me just start up Ys Origin right after.
Ys Origin is quite a different game, but it's also excellent.
It was my favourite Ys until I played VIII (and the latter was in coop, so that's an unfair comparison ;))

Yeah I have already played it once with axe lady so going to use a different character this time! 8 just served as a reminder that Falcom makes damn good games. It's almost ludicrous that they are able to make both awesome action games and turn-based games.

I was suppose to play Blands 3 and Ori 2, but Frostpunk has currently captured me. Just finished the first scenario "A New Home". It's quite intense at times.

It's really great. The Geofront people really managed to produce a great localization that feels like a continuation of the Sky games XSEED published. In an ideal world, the UI would be a bit better suited for a PC monitor, but given that it used to be a straight-forward port from a PSP game, there's really only so much you can expect on that front. The actual city of Crossbell is amazing, though. It feels like a true urban landscape, compared with the much more rural flare of Liberl.

It's also neat that they reproduced the layout of most parts of the city 1:1 in ToCS3.

I have to agree about the UI. The redrawn Detective's Notebook and redone after-battle summary look great, but the high-def fonts intermixing with upscaled graphics in the Orbment screen can sometimes look off. It's not a big deal though.

i feel like ive hit a wall in Ori and its getting frustrating. i dont know if need abilities i dont have or havent found yet but i cant seem to progress

Phew. Finally finished the Trails in the Sky trilogy, what a worldbuilding ride.

Time to dive head in on Cold Steel.
I finished what little there is at the moment of the first Early Access version of Record of Lodoss War - Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth. There is not much of a game now . It took me half an hour, and then maybe another 20 minutes to find all the secrets. There are two (easy) boss fights in the game, including the water dragon from the trailer. A few characters from the anime show up (have not watched that in 20+ years though - when it aired on German Free TV - so I can be mistaken), but not much of a story as of yet. The gameplay is very much Touhou Luna Nights which I adore, but it is missing variety: only one music track is in, no distinct zones or areas, two spells, a few different weapons, two elemental Familiars (which grant different weapon damage & immunities) -that's pretty much it right now.
Sounds like basically the reason I decided to wait till 1.0. Playing a game like that in pieces sounds awful.

At least it seems like it won't be long till it leaves EA - says 4 months on the store page - so here's hoping.

So finally tried out XCOM 2 because I got the dlc package.

Yea I don't understand how people like this torture. I tried out those legacy missions, one of them, on story difficulty. I moved my group in formation, saw no aliens. End turns, aliens turn.

All my dudes gone in one go, I didn't even get a chance to do anything lol. So aliens can one shot my team even if I discovered none on map. One injury is -1K points while killing an enemy is +100.

Yea less then 5 minutes and over -5K points.

First or second game? What was the last thing you did or what quests are on your map?

Question for everyone: I'm wracking my mind and searching through old posts here about the game where you start as a young creature who escapes after your parents are killed by a knight and you age/level up and tear your way the various humans/knights./etc. Can't for the life of me think of it's name,

Or do you mean that it's time to dive head in on Trails from Zero which is the next game in the series after 3rd?

Cold Steel is great of course, I played it that way also but by all accounts the Zero fan translation that just released is awesome.

Yup. I know. :) Even if i buy DOOM Eternal on Steam, i need a Bethesda account so it does not matter for me.

The price for DOOM Eternal in the Bethesda shop is a joke. 69,99 Euro? Really? lol
I can get the game für 45 Euro in other third party stores. WinGameStore for example.

Second. Main quest currently is finding the 4 wisps
I'll spoiler just in case someone is trying to go in blind: Once you get that quest you can go any of three directions, and the map marks each wisp location. I went Luma Pools first but checking guides online and they suggest Mouldwood Depths. If you saw the area with the big spider statue that's the entrance. Luma Pools is accessed somewhere left-ish of the village where there was a big waterwheel in a lush, colorful area. Now that you can glide you can jump from the top and reach the proper entrance to Luma Pools. You can also go to the northern area that's a bit left and above the village. You have quite a few directions you can go so I'm not certain where you're stuck. Each of the three areas has their own unique ability that'll help you progress so if you're in one of those areas and you're beating your head against making progress you may be trying to force the wrong direction because you need to get the ability in that zone first.

Apparently one of my neighbors has coronavirus, tonight some people with protection suits came to take him to the hospital.

Well, day 3 of the quarantine, hope you all are okay.

Called my family doctor.
Won't get tested for Covid. just get the mandatory 7 days off, someone has to pick up the doctor's notice.

My father just brought the doctor's notice, my doctor extended the sick leave to 14 days. Looks like they can do more than 7 days without being personally there.
(Well, 7 days were always a very optimistic outlook for a heavy cold and I probably would have go to the doctor regardless after 7 days)

Time to crush that backlog!

My mother’s breakfast is jam on bread. We don’t have bread. I don’t want to go buy bread or order online. Looks like stores have been raided anyways.
This is bread crisis. Beginning to fear that she will soon try to eat me with jam :fearful-face:

Ah, the beauty of metroidvanias. I enjoy playing Ori, but I probably would like it more if it was linear, I dunno. I got confused and lost so many times already...

Would Sony potentially bring Silent Hill to PC and more Metal Gear if they did end up buying the IPs?

I hope so, but I'm not counting on it. I don't like it that MS and Sony keep absorbing devs and IPs. Currently it looks like they both are OK with bringing stuff more and more to PC, but that's never a guarantee. If Spencer or Hulst go and other people come in that don't support this strategy, we could end up with lots of console exclusives again.

About to start Ori 2. Kinda in the mood for a good 2D game.

I guess only the future would show about Sony's PC plans. There could be more, there could be nothing after Horizon and the occasional service game. I don't think Konami would sell their IPs though. Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid and their other stuff have name recognition in videogames. If Pachinko or health clubs aren't as profitable any more you can always go back to these videogame IPs.

I guess I will cave and buy a cheap Beth key for Doom Eternal. Feels dirty.

I'm holding out in the hopes Zero / Aoi Kai get localized.

I'm done with Ori 2.
I didn't really like the first one because the gameplay was too often a bit crap. Combat was terrible, and the traversal mechanics were obnoxious (especially the slingshot).
Well, the slingshot movement is still here... and still sucks. But at least it's less prevalent, movement is more fluid in general, and the combat is way, way better.
In general it's just a vastly improved experience on all fronts, with noticeably more variety in environments, abilities, and shorter bursts of puzzle and action; which makes for better pacing... but also a much easier game, especially with the removal of the manual checkpoint requiring energy. Now it's all automatic and happens all the time.

It's a great game all around.
Buuuut... only if you can forgive the game chugging when changing zones... and a seriously underwhelming last boss. The game gets better and better, the last level is the right amount of length and challenge without getting frustrating... and then the boss is a pushover. Too bad.
The mountain of side quests is also distracting more than anything. They are not very interesting, it's mostly busy work, and having so much dialogue in Ori is just weird.

Also, it's more than a little bit inspired by Hollow Knight. I don't mind the skill system being dropped in favor of the ability slots (and it's done much better than HK too), but the cute insect fella to find in each level to buy a map from him? Try to make it a bit more flavorful at least... some elements really feel tacked on.

Seen on that space/cockpit junkie's tumblr I've posted about before:

That gameplay looks excellent! The fidelity is pretty terrible, but in terms of flight mechanics it seems right up my alley. Thanks for linking.

Edit : just a head's up, the pre-alpha thing is a bit of a bait and switch. It actually starts in one month (April 17th) but he does ask for your email right now.

Man, I had no idea that we go to Crossbell in CS3. Oh well.

You can either play CS1&2 or Zero/Azure first, they happen simultaneously and you'll see hints of what's happening on the other side in both arcs. I definitely recommend playing the Crossbell games before CS3 though.

My Index should finally be arriving tomorrow! (or Wednesday, I guess)

How can a week feel so long.

A parcel sent to you by VALVE CORPORATION B2C, Netherlands has now arrived to Finland and will be delivered to the address below within the next 1-2 business days.

You can no longer modify the delivery in our web portal.

I wonder if deactivating Borderlands 2 HD textures would fix my stuttering. Not like this shit can stream the textures fast enough anyways.
