Played a little bit of Wo Long and really surprised how much of departure it is from Nioh. I know they were going for a Sekiro style game and everything but it really does feel like a different type of game mechanically. And yea that first boss is brutal but once you start parrying him nonstop it becomes really fucking good. This is just like Sekiro except the first boss is where you need to git gud.

Also the port is indeed terrible. Playing on GP and the game is very stuttery. Slowdowns near bonfire and other intense areas. Reminds me of OG Dark Souls when it first released. A lot of weird slowdowns. Changing to borderless did improve performance some for me but they definitely need to patch this up asap. Koei Tecmo really struggling with PC optimization. First Wild Hearts now Wo Long :( steam reviews are brutal too.

Going into graphical settings in Wo Long n seeing Film Grain, Chromatic Aberration and Motion Blur all enabled by default...

And all 3 kinda hidden away on the back pages of the graphic settings.

And now knowing I played through couple hours of the game with them on.

And they also randomly jacked up the regional pricing lol, specifically for Wo Long. (Ryza 3 and Fatal Frame 4 appear to still have the old Valve recommended prices).

I preordered it on Steam so I wasn't affected, but hoo boy did they pick a bad game to start doing this on. That Steam discussions forum is literally on fire, so many angry people lol. :blobxorcism:

For me Wo Long is still the old price which is already jacked up when preorder opens.

For Ryza 3 and Fatal Frame it seems like they just decided to follow region pricing when they open preorder recently which makes sense in this case since both of these games open their preorders a lot later compared to Wo Long. Shame though as I would have grabbed Wo Long if it's following the region prices.

LOL Microsoft. Sub to game pass for 1 euro becomes 9.99 once I begin the process. I'm pretty sure I was not eligible to begin with but your website sucks ass.

Well yeah, it's somewhere in between incompetent and scummy. That being said, it's to play and probably rage and ultimately drop Wo Long, so it beats 44 euros on key resellers. The only downside for me would be that as usual cross play implementation looks half baked and I won't be able to ask for PossiblyPudding help.

I just went to the opean ocean because seeing it go from 1$ to full price was too infuriating.

I think the 1$ for first month only applies to Gamepass Ultimate and only if you haven't been subbed for a while.

I don't think the 9.99$ basic version does the 1$ trial. At least I haven't seen it for some time.

I guess.

All I wanted is to use a few min to check how my PC handles the game, 10$ isn't worth it for that, so I went arrrr.

Don't forget State of Decay 3. They showed that cool snowy hunting trailer and nothing since.

You can throw in Avowed as well.

Unless its Gears, Forza or Halo...Its seems Xbox has never been able to release shit on proper time. And even Halo now struggles.

As long as they don't pull another E3 2014 were they almost cancelled everything they showed it will be fine. They need to properly align everything with Gamepass. I think that has been the hardest thing for them but this year so far has been great. Every month of the year has a big new title scheduled through June so its starting to actually feel like they are hitting their stride as Netflix of gaming.
Yup schreier mentioned avowed had to be rebooted and I believe switched directors too and won't be out until 2024 at the earliest. SOD3 was announced basically the same moment it was greenlit. And we all know how bad 343 has been run for the last decade.

This is the main reason I side eye people rooting for MS to buy everything up. They've proven they can't manage the companies they already have and are expected to handle up to 10 more studios if the activision deal goes through?

Wo Long so far seems to peak at 73k cc, insane.
Is this a china boost? The game is a three kingdoms game after all. When Total War did a three kingdoms game they obliterated their franchise CCU record too.

You know what, with all of these messy ports and stuttering messes, I actually miss the days of last minute delays.

anyway, started playing returnal earlier. Really enjoying it so far, even if I am not very good at it. Although, so far, Selene’s attitude to alien tech, parasites and various other tech upgrades, means she would make a good crew member for Prometheus.

I don't know about a boost but the reverse is right, too. When the game had just been released there were a lot of negative Chinese reviews. No idea if it's about perfs.

I wish there was more releases like Half-Life Alyx and HiFi Rush. Not announced years in advance, and not rushed out the door in time for the quarterly results for shareholders. HiFi Rush was a stealth launch that was fresh on people's minds (And at most, having a single leak on /v/ that didn't say anything about the game itself), and Square Enix's habit of announcing games years before release just causes my hype to die down by the time it releases. I guess I could say the same for Halo Infinite and Blue Protocol, the former which felt rushed despite the delays, and the ladder which has a lot of decisions made by Amazon and Bandai Namco that just killed my interest in it.

When I say HiFi Rush plays like a PS2 game, I mean that in the best way possible (not as a pejorative). Outside of the PC version lacking PlayStation prompts as an option, there's very little that I can really nitpick about (Outside of how slow Chai moves), it's really well polished. It feels like a PS2 game in terms of experimenting with gameplay mechanics, being against the trend of massive symphony soundtracks or detail in the most mundane places, being a focused experience (unlike most open world games), and being polished where it actually matters. It ticks off all of the checkboxes for me. Tango Gameworks clearly learned from the problems with The Evil Within 1+2 and Ghostwire Tokyo's PC releases, and it shows. The director has been clear and communicative about how they went about addressing problems like stuttering, and it doesn't have the PBR look that a majority of other Unreal Engine games can't stray away from. I can't really say the same about a majority of this for every other Unreal Engine PC port or PC port from Japan.

I don't want to act like a doomer or put down other people's work (oversights are probably easy to forget about when you are being overworked on a time constraint), and I really don't want to write long and detailed conjectures that come off more like blowing off some steam, but it genuinely feels like HiFi Rush and NISA's output on PC (in the past year or two, although this generally includes the Trails and Ys games too) were the only times were something just worked in the past few years without patches or mods. I also liked Half-Life Alyx, Doom Eternal, and Devil May Cry V, but outside of HLA, what happened post-launch with the other games (The soundtrack controversy and DLC content in Eternal, and the DMCV SE stuff not being on PC) ended up just souring my opinion on them.

On the topic of HiFi Rush, I'm glad it sold 2 million. It goes to show that the idea of safe game releases (endless sequels, reboots, and easily marketable stuff like open world games) have been having issues with staying relevant past a short shelf life, and more creatively risky stuff can indeed succeed in today's market (Although a lot of this could be down to indie games making a market for it). I think games being more creatively risky rather than immitating cinema (even if there is a space for that) is going to be key for games to be more widely considered as an artistic medium. Okami got the recognition it deserved by the re-releases that Capcom did, and plenty of JRPG series that were niche before (like Atelier and Persona) are finally getting the recognition they deserve despite my opinions on their fanbases. FromSoftware has basically invented their own subgenre of action games. I think Square Enix trying to cash in on the western market by any means necessary due to superstitions about the dying console market in Japan during the PS3 era (Whether this is Forspoken, their mistreatment of Eidos, or questionable TL/loc decisions) fails to take this into consideration.

Might finish Wasteland 2 before RE4 is out. Fantastic game.

Also replaying TW3 but taking my time and just savoring it, this game is so fucking massive. Can't believe it's been 8 years... Feels good to revisit it but man, there are so many bugs and glitches when riding the horse. It can make traversal annoying.
Still one of my favorite games of all time though.

I keep thinking about SMTV, just fucking release it on steam Atlus!

Wasteland 3 is also great (in my opinion better) if you haven't played it, make sure to do so eventually. I played the gamepass version without DLCs and enjoyed it thoroughly. From what I read the DLCs are not particularly great.

I played W3 last year, won it in a giveaway here. That's what made me check out W2 which I already had in my backlog.

Just bought Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana, which is my first ever Ys game.
Never realized these were action RPGs, so they’re now on my radar. Looks like this one’s currently a historic low on GMG at $12, and Steam Deck verified if anyone’s interested.

This is one of the best ones. Early Ys are short but really satisfying adventures. Particularly Ys 1+2, Oath in Felghana and Origins (haven't played the rest until VIII)

If you're interested in learning more about Ys games :

I was watching the latest Sakurai video and he mentions Steam at 2:12. I wonder how many games he has on his account.
He has mentioned PC gaming and even steam throughout his videos (I've been watching each and every episode).
It's likely he plays some of the PC centric genres.

PC gamers showing once again they are okay with literally eating :poop:
That's not it. People are buying games with issues at launch because they don't know that the games might have issues or they don't perceive them as issues. Over the last decade PC gaming has become a mainstream way of playing games, it's no longer the realm of the power user. As such the biggest part of the audience out there either doesn't follow gaming news closely enough or any issues do not get in the way of their enjoyment.
