Starwars, Digimon, Pokemon, Anime. It's all horrible.
imagine WWZ a year from now ...
Not to mention all of the "Better" exclusives coming out seemingly a month after each other in quick succession so all of the bad ones are going to just get ignored.

I mean look at what happened at the quick exclusivity of now defunct discord store games, no one even gives a shit about them.

Not even necessarily the bad ones. I look for Hades to struggle when/if it hits Steam. I've enjoyed most of Supergiant's games, but how many similar games will be on Steam by then or soon after? Too many to count probably.

Hades will prooooobably do ok tbh

but other stuff - like Close to the Sun, World War Z, Shakedown Hawaii, Operencia, Observation, Dangerous Driving, Genesis Alpha One, Ashen, Hello Neighbor (i'd even argue games like The Sinking City, Satisfactory, or even Metro will have problems) ... all of that will probably bomb on steam a year later .... or will be completely dead (like WWZ, Hello Neighbor or Genesis Alpha One, which are multiplayer-only) ... as good as some of those games might be (like Observation, Ashen etc.) no one is going to remember about them 12 months later .... like we can just barely remember about Ashen ... and it's only been 6 months, and we're not even in the "busy" season yet

Oh no doubt. I've already forgotten about around half of those you listed.

And it wasn't so much that I expect Hades to bomb, it's more that I think it will struggle compared to expectations. I'll probably pick it up day one and I do hope it does well when it hits Steam.

i'm only thinking Hades will do well because it's supposed to be on steam once it leaves "early access" (whenever that happens) ... so they might try pushing it a bit more, and probably a few websites will reviews it etc.

You're right. I completely forgot it was early access.

Making a big deal out of a full release and making sure folks are aware of a Steam version will definitely work in their favor.

yeah, that's my thinking too

Honestly the music alone prevents me from ever seriously recommending DQ XI.
I really enjoyed the story and characters, except a certain thing in post-game, that ruined most of it for me.
It is really pretty and the animations and monsters are a joy to watch. Emphasis of "watch" here, because I didn't like the battle system much. I enjoyed it the most when I had everyone on auto and didn't have to bother engaging with it.

Overall it fluctuates in this weird space where I really liked certain parts of it, really disliked other parts, don't outright love it, but wouldn't call it mediocre either and I dunno.
But it's certainly nowhere near my personal favorites, so I guess that's that.
And god damn it cannot be emphasised enough how bad the soundtrack is and is used.

Oof. What a shame. You didn't use the Orchestral Music Mod? Given how popular that was even on Era, I thought everyone would use it for sure...

Alright, Digimon is good actually.

I agree with your complaints about the gameplay and the weird ass story stuff, however the music is completely fixable thanks to the power of Modding on the PC.

I played the entire game with a beautiful Orchestral soundtrack as it should have been. However, I totally understand not wanting to support trash like that.

No other features than 'single player' on Rage 2's Steam page is making me nervous.

Ashen came out 6 months ago? Holy shit, EGS really is flushing games away if I can't remember how long some have been out. It feels like both forever and a short period of time ago that I took it off my radar because of exclusivity.

Oh, no, I did play it with the Orchestral Music Mod. It upgraded the music from (slight hyperbole) "really bad" to "at least bearable". I just don't think it makes it that much better? A lot of the compositions are inherently weak, there are apparently a lot of songs from previous games used, that don't necessarily fit where they're used here and the repetition of some tracks can drive people crazy (overworld theme I'm looking at you).
I really don't like it much in general.

Releasing exclusively on a tiny store (and any PC games store that's not Steam is tiny compared with it), will always be a dumb move long term - no matter the moneyhat involved.
Sure, your game might not be a success on Steam and form an audience, but with that move you are ensuring that it won't form an active audience. How is that a smart move? Those millions will run out one day, and they actively hurt your changes of making money on your own.

I hope this actually happens; exclusivity deals on pc should die asap.

I'm not buying any of these games, even when they arrive on Steam later. Plenty of other great games to play out there.

Oh, even with the mod huh. I haven't played DQ11 myself yet, so I won't know what to think of the OST myself until I get there but dang... I don't even think I've ever played an SE game with a soundtrack that I felt was outright... bad? Even their B-tier stuff... :face-with-cold-sweat:

Hmh so I took Overwatch from a giveaway here and I connected my battle.net to Humble and it said it was redeemed, but it doesn't show up on my account. Does it take awhile or am I missing something?

Have you reset battle.net? I had to when I got BO4 Starter a few days ago.

Yeah, even logged in on my account through a browser to see the game list there and it isn't there. Humble said it was claimed to my account.

EDIT: Oh wait never mind, it said "Claim to Monooboe" not "Claimed to Monooboe" haha.XD

This is a good read. The CRPG Book

Thanks for sharing. Yes, I'm aware of Felipe's book. Falcom RPGs are well represented so it was a worthy endeavor.

Have you heard about CRPG Addict?

Any blogs which feature a let's play of Star Control 2 is a good blog in my book.

On the subject of obscure RPGs, 46 Okumen currently has an interesting project, translating Appareden -The Sacrosanct Dragon- (あっぱれ伝-伏龍の章-)
It's a PC-98 RPG from TGL.

I'm very much looking forward to it.

And as a bonus, one of their staff is currently working on Possessioner as a side project (although this is probably more right up Knurek 's alley).

I believe it isn't just added yet, you should see a gift icon somewhere if my memory is right.

Ugh. I desperately pine for the days when this was the art-style that was popular.

Nostalgia buttons triggered.

In case anyone still wanted to give remedy the benefit of a doubt re EGS

I'm very disappointed in Remedy. I love their games, I still have the phisical editions of Max Payne 1&2, I bought the Collector's Edition of Alan wake for both Xbox and PC, but I won't buy Control until it comes as a Steam key on Humble Bundle. I will not support the vision of a digital future that limits our choice and offers less features than what we have now.

Seems like Ultimate General devs switched to sailing for next games ⚓

Age of Sails seems to be pretty much continuation of what they did in Civil War but now ship oriented
Dreadnougts seem to be naval oriented grand strategy during era of battleships

Watched a long gameplay video of Shakedown Hawaii and despite Retro City Rampage being 'meh' in the end I would've insta-bought it today. Awww.

And Remedy.... I should be rooting for them because of their focus on linear story-focused AAA action which we get less and less of but here I am waiting for a used console copy of Control to make sure they don't get a single Cent from me. But seeing how they uses VGCHARTZ as a source for their platform-slide they don't need money anyway, they need Jesus.

Also just saw:

hmmm

Ashen no longer has a play button for me. It has a dumbass "get" button, which only redirects me to store page, which has yet another "get" button, which just redirects me to the general store.

"IT'S JUST ANOTHER LAUNCHER" yet it can't even fucking launch things properly.
Another fun fact. I hopped into the game's Discord support channel, and this issue seems to be widespread.

There's so much to play
and not enough time in the day
so what I want to say
is instead of Remedy
Thursday comes Yakuza day

dex3108 posted this on era:

Ubisoft Store 20% Off promo won't be valid for pre-orders/new releases (3 months after release) after May 9th in Europe

I wish Ubisoft would offer an EA/Origin Access type of service so that I could pay them as little as possible for some of the games that I want to play.

So first their Uplay points have an expire date, then they start skipping Steam and now they don't even offer the promo on pre-orders or new releases?!

The hell is happening to Ubisoft?
