Man I'm really excited for Yakuza this coming week.

I also FINALLY beat Hades in Hades for the first time last week. That one was a real close run. Excited to do more runs there.

My Spelunky 2 runs have kinda stalled out in 4-X. Not making a lot of good runs past there recently. Hopefully see some more progress soon. New Olmec has been challenging to beat. Really hard for me compared with the snooze fest of the old one.

It's a shame Yakuza 7 is coming out but Japan will not be getting it at launch for Xbox for some reason.

I was under the assumption that you have to program games to take advantage of the ps5 ssd stuff which is why it's like welded to the hardware and not interchangeable for internals and they're comparing load times on lest gen games
That's what I vaguely remember reading about at least, dunno

Yakuza 7 is looking really good, excited to get going on it Tuesday.

Been playing some Control and the Trails series lately and I have some potentially hot takes.

Control - The Alan Wake DLC sucks and is crappy fan service that I didn't like. It would have been much more interesting to explore more of the lore of the world instead of cramming in some Alan Wake.

Trails Series - These games would be twice as good if they were half the length. Ok, that ratio is probably an exaggeration, but the padding really takes away from all the cool shit that is going on when you get some actual plot moving forward. They can still do the worldbuilding everyone loves without padding things out to ridiculous lengths with nothing interesting happening for long chunks of time. If these were tighter and more focused experiences I think it would probably be one of my favorite series of all time. As it is now, I need to talk myself into playing sometimes when I know there won't be anything interesting happening for a at least a couple hours.

With Mass Effect trilgoy remaster finally confirmed for next year.

RE8
MEtrilogy
New Dragon Age (maybe)
Silksong (maybe)
Elden Ring (maybe)
Starfield (maybe)
Halo Infinite (lol)

2021 is really shaping up nicely. Throw in a Cyberpunk expansion and yea looks to be another strong year.

Also since I already have a 1080p 144hz monitor...I started looking up deals for a 4k60 monitor this black friday as a larger complimentary monitor..

But wow the deals aren't that good. In fact it seems like all the best monitor deals fall into the 1080-1440p 75-165hz category. I guess 4k panels still too expensive. I wonder if they ever drop down to good prices or will PC gamers just ignore them out of any popularity.

Not even Epic has its own older game on EGS. If you want Unreal and all of those you still have to get them on Steam (do they ever even go on sale?)
They do. Best place to get them is on Gamersgate. The pack often goes on sale at a 90% off discount for about 3€

Outsides the biggest ones, my 2021 whistlist would be:

Baldur's Gate 3
Steelrising
Nier Replicant
Biomutant
ATOM Trudogard
Alaloth
Solasta
Colony Ship
Dual Gear
Phantom Brigade
Zoria: Age of Shattering
Shadow of the Road
Weird West
Broken Roads
Chained Echoes
Eastward
Echo Generation
Encased (if it didn't make it 2020)
Bloodlines 2 (please be good)

There's more, but it'd be too long. I probably should make a thread to highlight them all: 2021 the year of RPGs. :coffee-blob:

Hey, what game has you screen shotting the most at the mo?

For me its Art of Rally. Its a beautiful game and has some lovely vistas.
Horizon Zero Dawn, Control

Yeeah Ive been kinda feeling the same way, I didnt like the AWE DLC all that much. The Alan Wake stuff felt shoehorned in. But then again, I think Remedys storytelling is VASTLY overrated anyway.

I should finish the first game, too. I dropped it 40 or so hours in because I got tired of all the grinding required to get some of the Digimons.
Getting Lilithmon was excruciating.
Well, yeah, it's a monster rising game after all, however, there is this perfect grind spot that I use to get the desired stats quite quick, unfortunately that spot is at the very end of the game (prior last chapter) so yeah, I get you although I don't find this grinding that much of a pain in the ass to be quite honest.

(just realized that I was going to tag Ascheroth for Digimon thing and I ended up tagging Arsene becase I mixed up both nicks, well done, Mor)

I'm playing Yakuza Kiwami with a bunch of great mods to improve the subtitle fonts, LOD, character models, DOF etc etc. None of this is possible with the Game Pass version of the game, where all files are stored in a locked down encrypted folder. It's kind of sad that millions of pc gamers support this turd anyway because it's cheap. :(

What's your CPU, in vanilla Yakuza 0 I often got fps to the 50s with my 3770K (and 1080GTX, don't think it's the issue) when roaming. Is Kiwami less demanding?

I am faced with a dilemma: buy Yakuza: Like A Dragon and a handful of games in the next Steam Sale, or save my money on Yakuza and go ham in the next Steam Sale.

Ocd is working me to the bone to buy the Asus TUF VG27AQ.
Reason is working me to the bone to realize it will be a big hurdle for the next four months and that we are only the 9th.

I suppose this desire to upgrade is to have my personal console launch, but I’m too poor for this kind of whim.

Am not waking up happy.

edit
I’m not even sure it’s the best bang for my bucks. Go 1440 120 or save for a 3080 and go 4k on my TV...

At 1080p 60 I feel it has done its time.
And it would be repurposed on a second PC for my mother (but let's not make my tantrum any less egotistical).

That's a fact. But it's also a fact that the more people accepting games with locked game files on pc, the less likely that Microsoft will ever do something about it. Seriously, we can only pray that Microsoft keeps releasing their 1st party and money hatted games on Steam, or modding for a significant amount of games will die on pc.

I don't know why there's no option on steam to completely hide curators, previously I could just ignore every single shown curator and steam would sort of hide them by not displaying any for a while, now I always get this error despite not following them

I wish this whole thing could be hidden, waste of space

edit: this is another waste of space which I don't care about and I'd like to disable

Likewise, find it very hard to believe. Also, doesn't it kind of go against his own ethos to praise that game considering the systemic abuse at Ubisoft that he's made his fight to unveil? Or does his convictions about crunch and fair treatment not go that deep for him?
He has a subsequent tweet addressing the topic.

I think at some point Microsoft will go the path of least resistance and just give up on this whole UWP business. It's not cheap to maintain, no one is using the store to sell software or IAPs and even after so many years it's still barely functional. On the other hand, if you just wanted a client that downloads normal files into the normal Windows filesystem (without any of the crap obfuscation that UWP is going for), you could probably implement it in a few weeks and get something that's already more functional than the current store.
There's a reason people are speculating that Microsoft might literally give up on Windows and turn it into a Linux distro. Not because there's evidence that this will happen, but because it's clear that Windows has long stopped being a priority for them. They are moving more and more into the business of services, with less focusing on owning the OS or hardware.

That's a notable departure from the usual behavior there then. Thanks! I don't agree with him there. I think that as long as this is the accepted way to make these products without consequences, the abuse has zero incentive to stop from Yves's perspective. At least I know where he stands.

For home use, yes, but from the business side - I don't see that occurring any time soon.

Just did a run in Hades @1440p 120 on the 4K TV. Surely not ideal, but I can't say I have the visual acuity of a teen anymore.
So if we forget the need to have a second monitor for some time, I'm not losing that much with my setup.

I would also make the point that right now is arguably a bad time to jump up in resolution. Consoles just raised the bar, as they do with each gen, and I think you'll be more comfortable in the performance department in a couple years once the PC hardware is again comfortably ahead.

Honestly, even for business users Microsoft just wants you to buy their cloud services and use Office on whatever OS you currently like, Mac OS or Windows. As it's all about how it interacts with other services, like OneDrive and other things.
This is all just idle speculation -- let's be clear about this --, but I could see Microsoft releasing some sort of "Windows Classic" which will just be a version of Windows with literally no support unless a company pays them a lot of cash to keep it updated, and have actual Windows just run on the Linux kernel, with the OS looking virtually the same. The benefit to Microsoft would be that they wouldn't need to maintain an OS anymore, and their team would actually be able to focus on making great software, instead of working with a 1000 year old code base.
