The trailer didn't need that song over it. Play me the epic score which I'm sure doesn't have any Pink Floyd in it.

I couldn't disagree more strongly Trisolarian.

I can totally understand the urge to lash out at a person who you think has wronged you, but that action doesn't usually lead to good outcomes for you or the other person. Thinking about doing it and wishing bad things on a person are wholly separate from actually doing them and then posting the results online as happened here. That shit shouldn't be tolerated and this person clearly needs help. There's no reason to do things like this online or IRL.

Even if you don't care about the results for the other person, then think about what it would do for the person lashing out. These sorts of actions reflect badly ON THE PERSON DOING THEM TOO. Any sane business person sees this outburst and will stay FAR FAR away from this person in the future. So now they have effectively blackballed themselves from any job in this industry. Acquaintances all of a sudden revert to strangers and don't want to be associated with either person. Further isolating them and keeping them in their bubble of sadness and pity. These sorts of actions DO NOT WORK. Don't go down that road. Its bad news all the way down for everyone.

We can all fantasize about doing horrible things to an enemy, but actually doing them ends up being bad for you too. Perhaps worse. Karma is real, never doubt it. I hope this dude gets some help and figures out his life, I pity him.
I mean people in the games industry bad mouth reviewers often so it’s not a big deal at all. What will blackball him is getting the bad review.

Shipping anything is usually good for your resume. Even a bad game is usually a good thing. It shows you can finish a project and know what it takes to get to the finish line,. You can have lessons learned and how to improve next time, what went wrong and so forth. You can use that knowledge to get hired at a bigger company and continue making games. After this? This person is radioactive no one wants to be associated with this. The review being bad is bad for the game (which by all accounts was bad anyway), this move is bad for this person's career and future potential in the games industry. Maybe they are happy to be out of it, I dunno. But with stuff like this, they definitely won't be in it anymore, unless they continue to go it completely alone.

looking more at the ea play thing and its kinda weird. more games on console than pc for sure but there's some strange omissions. like peggle 2 is on xbox but not on pc? titanfall 2 is not available on either? am i missing something or are these the correct lists for available games?

xbox: EA Play for Xbox One - Video Game Subscription Service - Electronic Arts

pc: EA Play for PC - Video Game Subscription Service - Electronic Arts

edit: nevermind i did see titanfall 2 but just on console? there is a strong possibility i'm just a blind dummy.

In addition to what tex said, I think people might underestimate the impact and growth of Hololive (vtubers in general, but Hololive in particular).
And I don't just mean growth in viewers or subscribers, but growth in revenue as an industry.

Over the past half year or a bit more, Hololive has turned from a business that probably had a Youtube revenue in the tens of thousands to one that has millions per month, just in Youtube superchats.

In fact, if you look at a global ranking of superchat revenue across all of Youtube, Hololive occupies 9 of the top 15 channels. And that's with basically purely Japanese content. In the global ranking. Across all of Youtube.

Given the current rate of growth, there are 2 major options:
  • Vtubers have reached or are close to reaching a saturation point; they are a lucrative but still ultimately niche idea that primarily works in Japan.
  • Vtubers are turning into one of the biggest new entertainment formats in 2020, maybe the largest change to that landscape since the advent of "normal" streamers.
I really don't know which of the two it is, but the Hololive EN announcement probably gets us closer to finding that out, so it's interesting.
I think that saturation will likely kick In at some point. Also because of how they are a part of a talent agency I would imagine that the actual VTubers only get a small part of that money (unless Bilibili was "generous" or something)

I wonder if for some of the current VTubers the same thing that happened with A I will happen to them (getting replaced since they don't own their characters). And other VTUbers have had to retire for other stuff. I guess it comes down to the contract really

damn that's a travesty.

i remember it being annoying on xbox one at launch cause it would save a movie clip whenever it thought you made a good play. i looked at my storage at some point and had like 50 videos of peggle 2 that some ai decided i needed to keep. 😆

Popcap has been weird with releases over the last decade.

Peggle 2 is one example. Another is Plants vs Zombies 2 & 3. Neither are available on consoles or PC, but they have been released on mobile.
I love PvZ1, but PvZ2 and 3 are mobile games. I don't think you could port those to console or PC without people losing their minds at how many microtransactions are in them. They would have to remake the game in significant ways to make the game sell for a single price or with less egregious MTX in it. So maybe they just aren't willing to do that since I assume the mobile gravy train is still running.

There's a PvZ3????? I knew about 2 being mobile-only but I had no idea they even made a third one. Talk about fading into obscurity.

Who could've seen this coming when they were acquired by EA of all companies?!

Just checked my 4 last reviews and well, I think the reception and the impressions are excellent :cat-heart-blob:

I¡m really glad to see people reacted positively to my thoughts, it's really encouraging.

I feel like every time I write a serious review nobody sees it and I end up deleting it.

I wrote a review for a F2P game that I played in closed beta before it came to Steam and literally just said “It used to be good but now its pay to win” and it got 1600 likes somehow and nothing I write seriously will come close to that.

Started playing The Occupation from the latest Humble Choice.

Hmmm, not sure on this so far, but I've only played the first chapter.
Gameplay seems based around exploration, investigation and gathering clues/hints. The premise of the gameplay seems really interesting, like an indie purely stealth Dishonored (needless to say, fucking cool and I want this to be good).
In practice the exploration gameplay appears to be wandering around before you get a feeling for the area, then once you do backtracking between many different rooms towards the next steps of the leads you are chasing.

You have a number of leads to investigate in the area within a set time limit, and it seems each lead has a distinct thread to be worked along.
Now the game deliberately won't give you much hints on what you're supposed to/how to do it, so if you fail to grasp the next step of the lead's investigation it seems like that's you stuck. It didn't appear to me to be open ended in how you tackle each lead.
What this all meant for me was exploring a lot of different areas and gathering hints/clues, with some of the leads managing to come together for me and some didn't as I didn't know what to do next.
Not sure what the consequences are in completing leads or not are, I only managed to get half in the first level, but this set up seems rife for replayability.

The other element of the exploration is the stealth. This is no frills stuff, just stay out of the way of the guards, that's it. But the guards seem fairly omnipotent and braindead at the same time.
I had guards investigate rooms looking for me when I left no traces of being spotted, and even worse go into investigation mode when I was in the public corridors doing nothing.
I got caught a couple of times but to no consequence, not sure if something happens if you get caught too much.

Last point that I was already aware of from the game's launch is bugs. I didn't have anything especially bad happen to me apart from one specific thing.
At the end of the first level (about an hour+ in) a guard went into investigate mode and strangely entered a pin into an already open door and so locking it. Thing is I had done nothing and the room in question I was just invited into for the next step into the questline.
Thankfully I just so happened to have the keycard and pin to then unlock the door. If I hadn't I think I would have likely had to restart the whole level again, and as there is no mid level saves of any kind that would have been an hour of progress gone!
This save system seems rife for disasterous potential with the way the guards have acted so far, let alone if any crashes happen.

So, I'll put this here instead of the What I'm Currently Playing thread to reach more people.

So, what's the issue with Doom Eternal? Like, who looked at Doom 2016 and thought that the best way to improve the game was to limit Ammo like crazy? Especially because most enemies require complex trick shots to kill them, and the frantic nature makes it pretty hard to think about how to preserve ammunition.
Seriously thinking of just quitting on this game. This just doesn't feel like Doom to me. Like, sure, I can see how getting by with minimal ammo use is something hardcore fans could be into, but to me Doom was just a fun shooter. I don't want to play bookkeeper about how to best plan my shots.
Or am I just missing something fundamental about how to play this game? And no, "learn how to minimise shots" isnt' what I want from Doom.

Coco, the world's #1 SC earner has gone past 600K subscribers last night. Not too shabby for someone who debuted less than a year ago. While FBK and Korone are still ahead in terms of subscriber count, them reaching 1M subscribers by the year's end won't be outside the realm of possibility.

Nope, you got hit in the face with the same issue I did. The game has good to it but the designer's hand is really, really heavy and authoritarian. It's like they are shoving their decision design into your face every minute, asking "Did you see how you have to shoot the glowy bit with that specific weapon? CAN YOU SEE MY DESIGN CHOPS?" when all I want is run, gun and enjoy it.

I mean make no mistake, strategy and thinking is good, but they went way, way too far in that constraining direction. They need to pull it back a tad. It does get better later on when you have more options, but barely. It's always the same cycle of weapons you use to maximize DPS and it never really felt I was free to be creative, to play the way I want. Rather, I had to guess how the designer wanted me to approach that problem and the answers were really limited.

Yeah, this sounds depressing. I can see what Swenhir means too, despite being just in the second mission.

My original problem with the ammo got better after getting an upgrade for just that, but the focus on "high level" play over just simple fun is just baffling. I wouldn't even mind if they put this stuff behind some difficulty slider, call it "Expert mode" or whatever, and just enable normal ammo capacity and other values for people who liked Doom 2016.

Yeah, Doom Eternal is just extremely unfun because of these mechanics. Also the arenas just have too many enemies, it becomes boring and a battle of attrition every single time, which especially obnoxious when an enemy can spawn behind you and one-hit kill you (in some cases).

I hate the way you get ammo almost exclusively through the chainsaw. I'd rather be scrounging mazes than waiting to be completely out of ammo, then killing a weak enemy in a specific way to get all my ammo back.

Same with the health. I hate the 'lose all your health to kill an enemy to get your health back'. That's just bad game design.

With Doom 2016, a lot of people complained that fights felt too samey. And they really did. You dodged most enemies by doing the same thing (just never stop moving). Your weapon choice never mattered much, since all of the weapons were insanely strong and the chainsaw meant you had unlimited ammo for whichever you liked. Then, most fights just spawned in all of (or most of) the basic enemy types you'd already encountered, so fights never felt distinct, and it all blurred together.

Compare that to classic Doom: Enemies had distinct patterns that forced you to play differently. Weapons strength was balanced by ammo and how tough they were to use effectively. And level designers built levels with distinct sorts of fights to keep things feeling fresh.

It really feels like, in Doom Eternal, they tried to fix the sameyness problem of 2016 with brute force. The game still has most of the same problems. Enemies still require you to just constantly move to dodge them. They still throw a formless slurry of previously-encountered enemies into every arena. You can still get unlimited ammo for whatever gun you like by using the chainsaw. All of your high-end weapons are adequate for just about any situation, so there's no good reason to switch them up.

So the only reason to switch weapons is by using brute force to push the player to. You can't kill that enemy with the super shotgun, better switch to plasma! You could 1-shot that caco if you'd just switch to the grenade launcher! Whoops, you ran out of your tiny ammo store and your chainsaw is still on cooldown, better change weapons! It's like they decided that the lack of variety wasn't because Doom 2016 lacked good reasons to switch things up, but because players were just being obstinate. So they force them to change things up. Variety achieved!

I really disliked Doom Eternal, despite being a huge classic Doom fan and loving Doom 2016. If you're not enjoying it, I'd drop it. It doesn't improve.

Join the club.

Part of my fault is buying it for the PS4, but in my defense, I'm stupid and the world had shut down and Doom Eternal ain't running on no gtx 660ti.

Part of it is the reason that talk about this game died out pretty fucking fast. It isn't a massive step back from Doom 2016 in terms of how comfortable to begin and how accessible it is. Seriously, Id made a game for the top 20% of skilled Doom 2016 players and not for anyone else. Sure you can switch weapons and combo in the air between three different ones at once, but wouldn't it be better if you had to switch guns FOUR TIMES.

Too much "didn't think about if they should" all over this thing. I try to come back to it once a month when I think about buying it for $60 in march. Guilt aggravation.
