In my arse end of the world, they will price the games at $90 AUD most likely. Considering our country is entering a recession because of C19, I'm sure it'll go down well.
Hopefully there is still competition, I remember buying fallout 3 on pS3 for AUD$110 because there was no competition. Now games launch at AUD$69 (about US$50). Though digital only editions and I imagine a deliberate return to physical scarcity will be a way of forcing inflated prices.

I'm guessing this is a place-holder price, no one is paying $124 for next gen games! I sure as hell ain't.

so i fully watched the Sony show, still quite conflicted about it
  • FF16 - looks nice , love the dark medieval feel of it , although ,messed up messaging
  • Hogwarts - really love the idea and great to see it finally revealed , but barely any gameplay shown
  • SpiderMiles - great looks , but felt way too directed , setpiece-y and QTE-y to me, also hey look we have reflective surfaces too
  • CoD: WarCrimes - nothing out of the ordinary , standard CoD
  • RE: VIII.Age - love the setting, but barely any gameplay shown
  • EggWorld-Soulstorm . looks about what i expected , will be fun in a year
  • FNAF - lol FNAF in 2020
  • DMC5SE - love to ee Vergil mode, but the messaging is a fucked up for PC version (missing Turbo and legendary DK modes)
  • Deathloop - just a reel of random gameplay clips , doesnt really show of Arcane strenghts, but looks promising
  • Demon's Souls - looks nice and all , but something just feels wrong , might be how low close to the ground the camera is in the footage

Standard console launch prices here are already 70$ and the last 2 console games I bought for full price was TLOU 2 and God of War, everything else I wait for a sale.

But as someone who mainly plays on PC it isn't hard to wait for sales on console, but for console-only people it will be worse I think.

Prices are already too high and 3rd party games are in general cheaper on PC that consoles too.

Man, I don't know. I feel that 80€ is such an absurd amount for a videogame that it will significantly impact day-one sales in many European countries.
I don't know what to say other than: it's not like people buying a Digital Edition console will have much of a choice.
Buy immediately or wait six months to buy at a 30% discount rate. So still 56€.

Digital only is a trap on consoles.

Well, looking forward to the day when other Sony PS4 games are coming to PC. We will see if the Queen's list will come true at some point in the future.
I think, after what happened last night (I'm just watching everything on twitter) it's pretty safe to assume that we should stop wondering when will it happen every time there's a Sony event, I'm even more convinced that they will just drop the PC ports one random day so the backlash is minimum so yeah, will happen whenever it happen, I'm out of wondering and expecting.

I have a backlog to play and if Sony is fucking stupid to not communicate things correctly is not my fault, if I can I will buy their games and if not they will eat shit. 😡

I'm sure that people would buy at 80€, especially those only playing a handful of games per year.

But now the GamePass offering from Microsoft got even more interesting for everyone else. I'd be tempted as well, if they would use Steam like EA Play.
They do need to market their console better in Europe, though. Here in Italy I already saw some PS5 commercials, but nothing from MS yet.

Prices here were about 70€ (which in turn is about 82$) when in the US were 60$ (and 60$ + VAT is not close to 80$) now are gonna be 80€ (which in turn is ~95$).

I mean I haven't bought a console in years nor do I usually buy games at launch but I have no doubt that it will trickle to pc prices :confounded-face:

Oh, I was not expecting them to announce a slew of SIE games on PC during an event designed to promote their next console.
That said I don't think plans have changed when it comes to releasing more of their 1st party titles on PC.

It was even mentioned in their official investor report.

We just have to wait. :)

After the backlash yesterday?
They'll release them way after ps5 launched. Probably not even this year.

They are even taking back the FF16 PC announcement. And that one was saying:"running on PC matching PS5 hardware." Or something like that.
It's funny AF.

No no, what I meant is that yesterday I saw Sony rushing plans and hurrying their PR machinery which leaded into a lot of typos, mistakes and misunderstandings, so at this point I'm really tired of their thing, we had enough tidbits, announce them or not but stop fucking around, DO YOUR FUCKING MOVE, backlash will come from the very same people whenever you do it.

FFXVI, announced for PC too, Square is fucking dumb and completely hides that fact, Sony re-confirms
Demon's get a typo BUT when asked for clarification they just
When pressed on whether Demon's Souls is actually a lifetime exclusive to the console or a timed exclusive like Death Stranding, Sony declined to elaborate further, reiterating "Demon’s Souls is exclusive to PlayStation 5."
WHICH SMELLS SO SIMILAR TO THE DEATH STRANDING SITUATION.

Seriously, this is why I get angry, because everything feels like it should have been waited 1 more year.

It's clearly a Death Stranding situation but it also shows how clueless Sony is about what strategy to adopt to promote next gen.

First they said a bunch of games were going to be next-gen exclusive but then they changed their mind and now a whole bunch of them will be releasing on PS4. My guess on this is that stocks will be lower then they planned so they now expect a whole bunch of their community to be without a PS5 for quite a while and they fear the backlash that would come from people being cut out of playing those games.

Then they somehow decided to be honest in their announcements and clearly state if a game was console exclusive, timed exclusive or total exclusive. Then they witnessed the reactions from their community on social media and decided to [UWSL]awkwardly [/UWSL]backtrack to the Death Stranding kind of PR.

They failed to say that Demon's Souls was a launch game during the show. They failed to say that pre-orders were opening soon after the show. They failed to say that Spider-Man was also releasing on PS4. It was such a disorganized announcement for such key info.

In case that was not obvious I had their PS4 catalogue in mind.
If Queen's sources are to be believed there should be quite a few PS4-era exclusives hitting PC in the soonish future. :)

I understand your frustration. The lack of transparency should never be glossed over.

The PC + cloud future for Sony is taking shape. However long it will take.

Both these console launches look like they've been cobbled together earlier than they should've been. Like both sides were terrified the other was going to launch this year and they both decided to rush to market. These things need another 6-12 months in the oven, if only so there are some actual games for them.

I am expecting poorly ported cross-gen games (moreso than usual) and at least one of these consoles is going to have some debilitating hardware issue. If Sony is having yield problems, my bets are on them.

I see some friends on Twitter rushing to pre-order one console or another, and I just want to scream at them to wait and see how this pans out. I've just got a bad feeling this time.

Since the overlap (of possible buyers) between both consoles is the same they started playing the chicken game (and Covid didn't help) and here we are.

One retailer has gotten Demon's Souls up for pre-order, it's 95$ in Norwegian.

Regardless of how much I want Demon's Souls, I will have to wait regardless due to that price. I wonder if other retailers and PSN it self will have a price around that.

Im happy now that I played and finished Demon's on my PS3 some years back, even have 97% trophies cleared. If I haven't played it already, the waiting for either a PC version or a price drop (which is what Im doing now) would be terrible.

Tested shows exact same number of IR lights on both revisions, lol (timestamped):

Placebozo interpreting things how he wants them to be just cos Facebook bad I guess.

Tracking may still not be quite as good 100%, who knows, for Tested it wasn't perceivable (and yet they perceived the G2's deficiencies in comparison to Quest/S) and I'm sure it can improve if needed since the lights are there and it only varies how many it tracks at a time or how it blinks them.

Outside the Facebook shenanigans which are up to anyone's opinion I don't see how anyone can not recommend it outright for anyone. from $299 (if you find the strap bad then $349 but Tested found it ok) you get a bit higher res than Index at 90Hz, the best finger-tracking-less VR controllers made (back to CV1 quality it seems, even with the thumb rest area), roughly the best-tier inside out tracking even if ars is right in that it's not as good as before, no need for proprietary PC cables, just a good USB cable, and of course the best stand alone kit by a mile on top of the PC VR stuff. If you want super high res G2 is your friend but you'll deal with its tracking & in EU it costs freaking 699 EUR (and the Quest 2 starts 349 EUR so 400 with Elite strap if needed). Might as well go full premium for an Index at that point for its impeccable tracking and deluxe controllers. Sound is important too, the Quest 2's is just passable I guess, but you can use your own headphones, we PC gamers got those for our PCs before VR was a thing and still havethem most likely. So yeah. A bit less bias, a bit more objective hardware reviews from that guy pls. Even if he has to spend paragraphs about Facebook anyway it's nuts to present the Quest 2 in that light.
Ars bozo edited that article and puts the fb reps at fault for lying that their controllers are gimped instead of their own incompetence, lol:
Facebook reps mentioned that the controllers were redesigned with an emphasis on increased battery life and comfort, which I found curious. The original Oculus Quest controllers didn't last very long, but they only required one AA battery and were far more efficient than, say, the HTC Vive Cosmos controllers. What got the battery drain down further? This is when Facebook reps claimed that Quest 2's controllers have fewer infrared sensor points: "We're able to find computer vision algorithms tuned to achieve the same [level of controller] tracking in fewer LEDs, thus [requiring] less power," a Facebook representative told Ars Technica.

I went back to compare tricky "expert" Beat Saber levels on both Quest 1 and Quest 2, and sure enough, the older controller is noticeably more accurate. It's hard to perfectly measure VR controller detection without access to verbose data logs (which I've used to diagnose issues with SteamVR in the past). But I can safely say that after an hour going back and forth between Quest 1 and 2, the number of lost swipes on the newer hardware was higher. So this downgrade in sensor points checks out.

[Update, 3:30 p.m. ET: Since this article went live, we've seen infrared camera footage from Tested confirming an identical number of LED bulbs in both generations of Quest controllers, which puts Facebook's original statement into question. The FB rep may have been describing a downgrade in frequency or power for those LED bulbs in Quest 2 controllers.]
I guess like for myself English is not their native language so they can't understand tracking fewer leds, if we even take their word on what fb reps said, doesn't have to mean you have fewer leds total, but maybe that when there are more than a couple in actual view you may not necessarily need to keep track of all of them for the same result. Not to mention how ridiculous their testing method is, instead of playing around to find exact issues and blind spots, when it starts going haywire and when it picks up the proper tracking again, they counted missed notes in beat saber? How very scientific and objective, lol.

8 pages since yesterday.
I hate you all.
:blobclosecry:
  • Sony claimed Demons Souls is coming to PC and other consoles at the end of a trailer. Took them an hour to come up with a :"DeS is exclusive to PS5" statement. Which sounds like the Death Stranding is exclusive to PS4 statement.
  • PS5 games are 80€
  • FF16 trailer was running on PC hardware. But now all mentions of the PC version vanished.
  • DMC 5 is getting a PS5 version with Ray tracing, but the PC version won't be patched.
  • and now Sony is claiming that subscription services are bad and unprofitable for true blockbuster games.

I'm grumpy.

At this point the only result that remains from that conference is increased console game prices - which will trickle down to PC in all likelihood - and a corp tax on Europe and no doubt other countries. Nothing about those games justifies that price, and nothing about the cost of making them either when execs get such bonuses.

Fuck Sony, if I can be honest. I'm really tired of this whole exclusivity song and dance while they kick the price up in the middle of a pandemic and recession.

Went back and played a little of the original Demons’ Souls in light of yesterday’s gameplay trailer, and all it’s done is reinforce what I already thought of it. Sure, it looks really visually impressive and “next gen”, but it’s lost that From Software touch. The off-center camera, the constant huffing and puffing and grunting noises with the player (where the original was silent, eerily so in soul form, on purpose), weird floaty GoW-esque animations and the constant camera shaking with ripostes and backstabs... Snoy can keep this one on the PS5. I’ll gladly stick to the original. Just port Bloodborne already so I can stop paying attention to this garbage company.

On the other hand, if Elden Ring has the same visual fidelity as DeSR while keeping the same sense of style and finesse that From’s games have had, then sign me the fuck up.

It's made even more so by the fact that it's an arbitrary tax that isn't reflected in anything of the game's quality. This is still the bog-standard AAA release and you can arguably find anything just like it at vastly inferior prices on PC today. There is no innovation, there is no particular jump in cost, there is nothing to games developed on these platforms that justifies such a premium. This is just the industry collectively pleasing itself at the thought of people paying more for the same.

You can bet MTs will still be going strong. I'm really, really out this time. I was already not interested in consoles but I'm not touching those releases at these prices and I encourage others to do the same. Money is the only language, the only data point they respect and understand.

They're popping up at $100+ here in Sweden, which is almost a $40 increase from previous generation.

I don't know what's going on, is anyone gonna buy at these prices?

I made it. Feels like I lived several lifetimes in those 8 pages.
Now, I will just say that, being PC centric but absolutely not allergic to consoles : gimme that 3080.
PS5 is not even worth contemplating.

On a related topic I think I saw Sony say the Game Pass model wouldn't make sense... well, with the price hike on games I'm semi expecting them to do a 180 in some months time. They will need a big customer base, every customer bases.
At this point I suspect that one of Sony biggest issue right now is how to handle their die hards.

Swenhir hit me up for some DRG if you want. Been several months since I last played it but it was fun.
