Klaus is now on netflix and while I only watched the first 15 mins of it, it was lovely and the art style is wonderful IMHO. Give it a watch.
It was visually absolutely incredible. They nailed the late-disney, Treasure Planet/Atlantis look with 3D. I adored that.

It's got that 'feel good' vibe. It's a light kinda film that just gives warm fuzzy feels, the perfect relaxing christmas movie.
Shoot now I wanna watch Die Hard 1. Maybe I'll watch it over dinner.

People who open flower shops can’t be bad people, right?

Bara no Nai Hanaya / Flower Shop Without Roses

Oh my God. This drama was originally aired all the way back in 2008, and probably subbed shortly after that. How did I miss this gem? What an amazing show, full of plot twist and wonderful characters.

It's about a guy who runs a flower shop with her wonderful daughter. He's a single father, but they always have a fun and peaceful life. He's an amazing dad who raise her daughter alone in such a wonderful and inspiring way. In some rainy day, he met a woman in front of the shop, and it changes everything. I know that it's an old drama, but I just can't bear to spoil it to anyone who haven't watched it. All I can say that the writer put such a perfect title for this story.

Anyway, above all, what amazes me the most is the main character, Eiji. He's such a nice guy and that probably won't be enough to describe how nice he is. He's like the Prophet or even Buddha, who is always willing to help anyone in need. But Eiji, he has no secondary motive at all, he's not preaching, hoping for people to return a favor for him, or anything. He simply want the people around him to be happy. His kindness simply has no bound, he's willing to suffer for other's happiness. And he never hold grudge. I know it's a fiction, but still. He's simply inspirational and think a lot about my life while watching this drama. I aspire to be like him, even for a bit.

Catching up to Crisis on Infinite Earths event since it crosses over with Black Lightning and I want to see BL take his place as the Paragon of Putting Electricity Up Someone's Ass .

Otherwise Black Lightning Season 3 has been great
Tobias can be terrifying holy shit

Watched that Michael Bay movie on Netflix

It was actually really, really, really good. As always the cuts were a bit all over the place but that's absolutely Michael's take on superhero movies, his own version of the boys if you will, didn't expect it at all tbh, was kinda wonderful.

The action sequences were some of the most intense stuff I've seen since a too long while

It's now completely a Disney movie. Except that the actual ones are better than this.

Snark aside, it depends on the execution, scripts always read a bit badly. But sheesh, this looks like it's really going to be bad.

Saw star wars this morning and let me tell you, I vastly prefer looking at the ruins of actual trainwrecks. Utterly soulless movie from start to finish, and the action set pieces weren't even good. GFX were nice, the only good aspect of it

Wow. I thought this was mostly a film with plot problems but if the execution really is that bad, oh boy.

ook , seen TROS , was a quite intensive from start to finish , definitely went with spectacle and emotions over plot. (but well thats what SW movies always were) . Curious to see if internet will rage about the parts i expect them to

From pure enjoynment factor perspective .. most fun i had since the OT.. although still need to process it all to form definitive opinion , but wastly prefer this trilogy to the prequels, despite its problems .

Exactly my thoughts.

And like I said yesterday, is it so bad that a film entertains people who are looking to have a good time at the cinema?
I keep reading negative comments that pretty much complain that a Star Wars film is... a Star Wars film.
I watched it in a room full of people, old and new, fans and non-fans (like my wife), and everyone seemed to have a good time with it.

I loved that final sequence, just before the credits.
That was a nice way to finish a trilogy.

I firmly believe that opinion on this film will sour with time. You can disagree but spectacle can overcome problems with characterization, pacing, dropped plotlines and what not in the moment.

Having a fun time with it sounds like MCU movie praise, films which I watch once and can't be bothered to watch again. I forgot that I even saw the new Spider-Man like two weeks after seeing it. A high mark of quality.

Hey, it‘s my time of the year when I think I should reconnect with my past habits/passions and watch something. 9 times out out of 10 it’s shit, but hey.

So today I watched the first two ep of Good Omen and it was shit. Kidding, sorta. I have a lot of sympathy for Pratchett and Gaiman, but this is super boring at times.
Not bad, has its moments, but Oh Lord the pacing Is all over the place, super fast then super slow.
I will try to finish it at least, I want to expand my horizons.

By the way, since I see it mentioned on this page, can someone tell me if American Gods s1 is a litteral adaptation from the book ? Same question for the comic book.

Went to see Star Wars last night. It's a decent SF action movie, but not a good star wars movie if you know what I mean. The story wasn't exciting at all, lots of the dialogs are typing Hollywood talk about nothing, and several things didn't make sense to me at all. The visual effects are incredible tho, and I liked the ending, despite being rather predictable.

I watched Klaus on Netflix last night. Nothing particularly original but it's incredibly well made and it's a great heartwarming movie for Christmas.

I also watched Star Wars yesterday morning, didn't like it as a Star Wars movie, didn't like it as a movie, didn't like it at all.

The new one? I'm really not sure whether I want to watch it. It seems bad. I think inevitably get curious but by then probably regret not having seen in in a movie theater. At least the visual spectacle and sound would be impressive if I go see it. But I could also spend that money and time watching Knives Out, which is supposedly quite good.

I was on the same boat, went, and had a lot of fun with it.

I honestly don't understand all the negative reactions.
I feel people are going to the cinema already putting the film down, because of some bad reviews they see online.
As someone who went to the cinema to watch Episode 5 and 6 when they launched (and all the main entries, and re-releases after that) I think the film managed to channel some of the "magic" and spectacle of the original trilogy, unlike the prequel trilogy, and certainly unlike Episode 8.

If you have the chance, I would say go watch it, and make up your mind.

To counterbalance things, allow me to post a few positive comments.

Swery went to watch it 3 times in a couple of days, and loved it:

Adam Goldberg (the guy behind the TV series The Goldbergs, and a big Star Wars fan) loved it as well:

Go and watch it if you're curious, you won't get the chance to see it on the big screen again once it's gone.

I didn't go already putting the film down but I found it to be a disjointed and tedious mess that felt way longer than its running time to me. Events all lack a sense of consequentiality, gags have always been part of Star Wars but in this new one (as in the TLJ) are completely out of place and unnecessary, the omnipresence of mellifluous dialogues is extremely corny to the point of becoming almost funny. It has a shit ton of fan service to please those who saw the original trilogy back when it launched (to which I'm immune since I can't be nostalgic for something I never lived). Action scenes are enjoyable but they weren't enough to save the movie for me.

Maybe that's the thing.

I see a lot of people who don't have much of an appreciation for the films, events and characters of the original trilogy, and have big fondness for the prequel trilogy (which, as someone who came from the original trilogy, I find it veeeeeeeeeery weird :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes: ).

Personally, I'm of the belief that if Star Wars is the pop culture phenomenon that it is, and is still talked about 40 year later, it's because of Luke Skywalker, and Leia, and Han Solo, you know, the characters (and the actors behind it), a human element, and not just the lightsabers, the cgi effects, and other stuff.
I don't feel that bringing back these people, and making them a part of the events, is something negative. I mean, this is a sequel to the original trilogy, and a lot of people, like me, wanted to see these characters back. That's the whole point of a sequel.
I know some people feel differently, and apparently see this "fan service" as negative, or as a pure nostalgic exercise, because of that good old "ageism" that apparently makes anyone above a certain age irrelevant, and only good to come out to be killed as a plot point, and nothing more.

But, I'll do say the following.
I went to watch all of the 3 films from the sequel trilogy in packed theatres on opening night. Packed rooms with younger people, older people, parents with kids, fans with t-shirts and dressed as characters, and non-fans that were usually "dragged" to the films by their parents/husbands/boyfriends/(...).
The mood after Episode 7 was great, people enjoyed it, got a kick and reacted during certain events and characters (not only when some old characters came along, but when new characters did something cool), people clearly had fun with it.
On Episode 8, people ended up the session... apathetic. None of the enthusiasm was there. Not even from the people who went in full costume.
With Episode 9, the mood was, like with 7, of joy and fun, but even more so. People cheered, people cried, and people went berserk in certain moments, including that last scene. It was great to see a whole room, including my wife (a non-fan, who loved the new movie), and people of different generations reacting very positively to the film.

It felt like an "event" film, like plenty of 80's/90's pop-culture classics were, and not like most crap that passes as a big production nowadays.
On another thread, I had someone react negatively because I said I had a lot of fun with the new movie, as if "fun" is something meaningless. You know what: it is important. And something I find lacking in many of Hollywood's recent output.

So yeah, maybe people with a big fondness for the original trilogy, and who didn't care more the prequel trilogy, will get more enjoyment out of it.
You will see plenty of characters and actors from the original trilogy, as well as references to events and places from them.
If it's something you feel it's positive, and you enjoy an old school space opera, I would say you will probably enjoy the new movie.
If you don't have much fondness for the original trilogy, and enjoy later entries in the series instead, maybe you won't get as much out of the movie.

Another theater visit today with my lovely daughter to see Frozen 2, and I liked it a lot. The store is a bit darker, but interesting and exciting from start to finish. The songs are beautiful and Olaf is funnier than ever. And of course the movie is a technical masterpiece. Especially the water is truly impressive. Very recommended, and not only for little girls! ☺

The ones to whom you always return even after a fight is the family.
The person who is moving forward with you after a fight is a lover.

Mukai no Bazuru Kazoku / My Family Goes Viral

This show took me by surprise. The plot itself is very interesting, it's basically a story about a family whose members unexpectedly goes viral one by one. It also sounds pretty simple judging by that definition, but the story telling is so good with lots of interesting twists and tear-jerking moments. It also teaches us about social media's effect on individuals and families, how scary it is to become famous all of a sudden. The ending was pretty great and satisfying too, and Grandpa is the best character.

Just watched Parasite on the theater.

Fucking hell

You must watch this movie.
Watched it a few months ago and i think it will age like fine wine as part of kino's greater canon.
It does a good job both a Comedy and a Drama, with bits of horror elements even.

But most importantly, its underlying themes are the most incredibly and damning.
It's not just a criticism of wealth inequality (of which we have plenty in movies), but it goes even a step further and dives deep into the social aspects of privilige and ist inherent limitations.

My favorite, and probably the most sad scene, is when the poor family spends a night alone at the wealthy families house basking in their wealth and getting drunk where the daughter starts asking if they, the rest of her family, can ever see her being all uppity and fine like the wealthy family, and the unspoken answer is no, they can't. Because being poor and being wealthy isn't just a matter of owned capital, it is a matter of mind and upbringing.
Even if you accumulate enough capital to be wealthy, you will never be "truly" one of the rich because your personality will have your former class imprinted upon it to a deep degree. It is possible to become wealthy, but it is not possible to ascend from the class you were born into.

And that made me quite depressed.

Haha, I’ve seen this first hand. A family from rags to riches to rags again until they stabilized. So desperate to feel upper class.

The rim of the world on Netflix. I love alien invasion movies (independence day is one of my most seen movies) but this one was really bad. Bad story, bad characters, bad dialogs and bad special effects. Someone should also explain to me why a car radio still works when an emp pulse fries all electronics in the area. Bad. Just bad.
