With 2021 almost done (or done, if you live in the future), it is time for all of us to start anew. And that also means a new list of backlog to clear.

Reserve a post after this one and update it there. Feel free to throw in custom graphics in there if you wish so. There are no rules for what constitutes a finished game other than you feeling that you're done with it, although I'd encourage not to log games you just didn't feel like playing them after 15 minutes (but if you must, hey, I'm not gonna delete your posts...or would I?).

Happy gaming!

List for the previous year.

January:

1.
Dark Souls III + DLCs - 64 hours | I had to play something from the series to help the wait for Elden Ring

2. Love Choice - 2 hours | It's a with 3 short stories about relationship and love. There is some outside of the box thinking involved in how to get some endings, so it was a nice point that I wasn't expecting at all.

3. Supraland Six Inches Under - 20 hours | Great game! The main campaign doesn't overstay its welcome, the puzzles difficult is spot on and the ending boss was an improvement over fhe first game. There are some post content to do after finishing the game, and I'm exploring the levels trying to find secrets that I've missed. I'm pretty sure I sequence break as I got an ability that was needed for some puzzles after finishing the game.

February

4. Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin -
73 hours | Such a flawed gem, loved my time with it.

5. Anodyne - 8 hours | It's been sitting on my library for quite some time, started the game years ago but never went far into it so I gave it another chance and I'm glad I did it. Plot wise I had now idea of what was going on, the protagonist seems like to be in a fever dream. The difficult is on point and once you finish the game you can use a certain access new places .

6. The Touryst - 7 hours | I'm currently focusing on smaller and shorter games. I started playing it last year but I stopped for no reason, came back in the past days and the game kept me glued through it. The visuals are cute enough, the to-do list kept me checking for the side activities that I needed to complete and the fact that it doesn't have combat made a pretty good impression with me.

7. Anodyne 2: Return to Dust - 12 hours | It's an indirect sequel to the first Anodyne though you can go to first Anodyne's world as a post game content. It still has that feeling of "what's going on here?", the world is more alien than the first game and it is the first thing that will grab your attention. The OST is incredible, it has some Chrono Cross vibes to it.

It took me around 12 hours to finish the whole game and get all the achievements and not even once I was bored.

March

8. Elden Ring - 160 hours
| Elden Ring consumed my free time during March! The game is massive but I never felt like I was wasting my time while exploring. At it's core is a Souls game with an open world, though approaching the combat like the older games may limit the game as the jump addition open new possibilities in the combat as well for the exploration.

9. Chime - 2 hours | Had this game sitting for years on my library, it's a short and relaxing musical/puzzle game.

April

10. Norco - 8 hours
|

11. ANNO:Mutationem - 20 hours | Cyberpunk + Evangelion + SCP. The combat felt clunky in some aspects though the devs are working actively in the game and patching it with frequency.

12. Umurangi Generation + Macro DLC - 7 hours | No combat, you can't save anyone, just taking photos and delivering packages while things happens.

May

13. Citizen Sleeper - 10 hours
|

14. Rogue Legacy 2 - 40 hours | The sequel improves over the first game by a lot. The various classes feels and plays different, the levels are varied and there are accessibility options to tune the games difficult to better suit you.

15. Songs for a Hero – Definitive Edition - 10 hours | It has a gimmick where the narrator sings what the main character is doing, the difficult was ok though I disliked that you need to wait the bosses execute certain moves to be damaged.

16. The Stanely Parable Ultra Deluxe - 9 hours | It's more Stanley Parable! The game has been expanded with new content and endings, and they are all worth even if you played the previous version.

June

17. Hatchwell
- 20 hours | Hatchwell is a love letter to old Zeld games, especially A Link to the Past, though it has it's own charm and can hold on by itself. The dungeons are well varied and there are secret items to be discovered in the optional dungeons.

18. Timespinner - 14 hours | The time is a bit inflated as I let the game running in the background in some moments. It's a metroidvania with a beautiful pixel art and some levels are a clearly reference to Castlevania: SotN. The map is small, but as you'll be travelling between 2 different eras it can be mitigate it.

19. The Hunter’s Journals – Pale Harbour - 3 hours | Another game that was sitting on my backlog, it's first entry in the series The Hunter's Journal, a CYOA game. The text was recorded so you can approach it as an interactive audio book and the story was engaging, discovering what was happening in this world made me finish it in just a sitting.

20. The Hunter’s Journals – Vile Philosophy - 4 hours | It's the sequel of the previous game and felt bigger than the previous one, as expected the story was engaging and discovering what is happening kept me hooked to the game.

July

21. Neon White - 30 hours |
Incredible gameplay, aesthetics and music. The plot can be a bit cringe but for me it wasn't able to pull the game down.

22. Little Noah: Scion of Paradise - 14 hours | A game that came out of nowhere and surprised me positively, I think it must have the cutest aesthetic from all the games I played this year so far.

August

23. Spark The Electric Jester 3 - 7 hours |
A very competent take on modern 3D Sonic games. It expands even more upon the previous entry and closes the story.

September

24. A Dark Room - ? hours |
I remembered this game from years ago as I never managed to finish it before.

25. IMMORTALITY - 8 hours | This might be mu GOTY. I was eagerly expecting it since Barlow's announced he was working in a new game. I can't talk much about it without entering in the spoilers territory but it was an incredibly experience.

26. Trombone Champ - 5 hours | The most dumb idea made one of the most fun games released in 2022.

October

27. Squad 51 vs. the Flying Saucers - 3.5 hours |
A shmup with aesthetics based on old movies.

28. Vampire Survivors - 40 hours | JUST ONE MORE RUN

November

29. UnMeal - 13h |
A homage to the MSX Metal Gear games but focused on humor.
30. Lunistice - 5h | Another good 3D platformer.

December

31. Powerwash Simulator
- ? | That must have been one of the most relaxing games I've played. It was perfect to listen to podcasts while cleaning things.

Stated Goal: 3 Games a month, or 36 total by Dec. 31st, 2022.

R6 Siege, 2022 Time Sink: Start: 1465 Hours || Current: 1,502.8 || Result: +37.8 Hours (Last Update: Feb. 4th)
FFXIV, 2022 Time Sink: Start: 12,370 Hours || Current: 12,397.3 || Result +27.3 Hours (Last Update: Jan. 12th)
====================

Games Completed in 2022:

January:

1: Milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk (Steam: ~20 Minutes, 3/3 Achievements)

Thoughts: was I the medicine? Short but oddly thought provoking. Got me excited for the sequel.

February:

1: Helltaker (Steam: ~5 Hours. 10/10 Achievements)

Thoughts: Really liked this!! Great unique artstyle, boppin' soundtrack and a decent difficulty. Even for a puzzle noob like me. I will say the two boss-stages really took me some time to figure out. Those really felt a bit brutal, but still, all in all I hope someday there is a sequel! (It seemed hinted in the extra chapter?)

June:

1: Elden Ring (Steam: ~178 Hours. 42/42 Achievements)

Thoughts: Too big, severely overstayed it's welcome. Many of the locations are literally copy-and-paste with very minor edits to layout. The legacy dungeons were fun though, as usual. Unfortunately all the interesting story bits and characters are the ones least expanded upon or (after further research) related to cut content. So that's disappointing too. Miyazaki's Eldritch fetish peaked with Bloodborne, along with his ability to weave a barely coherent story in the most vague ways possible.

7/10. Probably closer to 6.5/10 on a worse day.

I finished 41 games in 2021, which is 5 less than 2020, but due to my financial situation remaining rather poor a lot of backlog was cleared which I'm very happy about.

Same as last year, I'll make a new post every now and then with updates to my list, but my reserved post (this one right here) will only have an embed to my Google sheet I use to keep track of the games.
The embed is hidden inside a spoiler tag because it prevents it from loading until you reveal the spoiler, making the first page of the thread more pleasant to browse especially on mobile.

Oh hey, sure, why not? I already do this on another site anyways.

COMPLETED GAMES
1. Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island (XB1, 2014)
- 4:42 - January 1
It's perhaps unfair to judge Storm Island by modern standards, but it's a rough experience to go back to after hundreds of hours in the most recent Horizon games. For starters, Forza Horizon 2 is firmly stuck in 30fps territory even on Series X. Storm Island specifically suffers from a few other issues. First, in a bid to be More Extreme(tm), the expansion isn't content to just throw inclement weather at you; enormous hills that wipe out half the drivers, and arbitrarily placed obstacles in the middle of tracks are two things I really didn't want in a Horizon game and add little to the experience. UI issues and the small size of the map also fail to impress. Storm Island is clearly a blueprint for future extreme weather/offroad-focused expansions like Treasure Island and Blizzard Mountain, but it's more interesting these days for historical value than as something to actually play through and enjoy.

2. Cruis'n Blast (Switch, 2021) - 1:32 (1:02 + 0:30 in 2021) - January 2
It's flashy and full of pyrotechnics, and I can't think of another game that lets you drift a stealth chopper or a triceratops. But beyond the fireworks and the rampaging dinosaurs, you're still looking at a pretty basic arcade racer. It's hard to get a real sense of where to apply your skills; turns are never sharp, you have a limited number of nitros, and boosts in general feel hilariously inconsequential; what's an extra 10mph for a few seconds really going to do for me besides protect a lead at the end of a race? The racing feels frustratingly arbitrary at times, like nothing you do actually matters. Getting a perfect start still leaves you at the back of the pack. Taking out cars doesn't matter because they can just pass you again in seconds. Collide with walls and you get slowed down a bit but not very much. Shaving two seconds off a 50-second track can leave you with the exact same placing. Unless you're into racing the same tracks over and over to unlock and upgrade all your cars, this is a really short experience.

3. Forza Horizon 3: Blizzard Mountain (PC, 2016) - 5:16 - January 3
A significant step up from Storm Island in every way. It looks better (goodbye post-apocalyptic Storm Island), it plays better thanks to the unlocked 60+ framerate, and it's got a wider variety of ways to progress to the final Kingmaker event. Really I only have two issues: first, there are still some quality-of-life improvements I could suggest, like an automatic option to equip snow tires (or better yet, just make snow and rally tires the same purchase like in later titles). Second, and more importantly, the additional skill challenges for the race events are often annoying and feel at odds with the basic task of finishing first. Why are you asking me to hit things with the side of my car 15 times, game?

4. Forza Horizon 3: Hot Wheels (PC, 2017) - 4:46 - January 9
God, what a disappointment. Hot Wheels inherits the biggest thing I didn't like about Blizzard Mountain (the skill challenges) and adds a whole host of new issues. The biggest one: it's not fun to drive. All the road surfaces are slick plastic, which means a staggering lack of grip. The tracks feel more slippery than the expansion that literally had you racing on snow and ice. Worse, the AI (at least on Expert and Highly Skilled) seems mostly unaffected by the chaos of the tracks, whether it's the lack of grip, the ping-ponging off the walls of the tracks, or the ridiculous twists and bends in the track that, if you're not careful, will catapult you clean off the map altogether. It sometimes feels like the way you're "supposed" to play Hot Wheels is to set the difficulty to low, hit all the walls with abandon, and give zero shits. I sincerely hope Playground never does anything like this again.

5. Lake (PC, 2021) - 6:12 - January 11
Lake's a pretty innocuous game on the surface--a forty-something woman takes a break from her hectic programming career, returns to her quiet hometown, and fills in for her recently retired father at the post office. But I spent a long time during deliveries and even outside the game thinking about some of Lake's central concerns: what it's like to live (and leave) a small town, how to decide if you've reached an inflection point in your life and what to do about it, and how open you can be to new people and experiences, or old friends and neighbors. It's not the most dramatic of games, but Lake is thoughtful and heartfelt, and its core storyline resonates with me.

6. The Pedestrian (XSX, 2022) - 4:29 - January 24
Aside from one puzzle that's actually extremely clever but a bit of a chore to complete in practice, The Pedestrian has pretty much the perfect difficulty curve for me: never frustrating, teaches its concepts well, and by the end of the game presents you with puzzles that look nearly incomprehensible until you start to pick them apart and figure out what you need to do. A lovely experience.

7. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Switch, 2018) - 6:47 - February 3
The first episode was adorable and lots of fun. The second episode had some neat levels but was beginning to wear thin. The third episode began to feel like too much, and the final level was an exercise in frustration. Captain Toad is not a long game, but frankly I wouldn't have minded if it was shorter. Playing the game handheld doesn't really do it any favours either; it can sometimes be hard to see what you're supposed to do or where you're supposed to go, and sometimes that means dying to things you couldn't spot. When the checkpoints get bad (hello last level), this compounds the annoyance.

8. Destiny 2: New Light (PC, 2021 version) - 4:51 - February 5
In order to play the Forsaken campaign that's going away soon, as a new player I needed to play through New Light, Destiny 2's current new player experience replacing the original Destiny 2 campaign(s?). My only exposure to Destiny has been through the first game, which didn't leave the greatest impression, so colour me surprised when New Light starts the same way Destiny 1 did: a ghost awakens you in the Cosmodrome, a newly revived (reborn?) guardian, and you need to find you way back to the Tower. Trying to get started with Destiny 2 in 2022 is... a lot. It is very clearly a game geared towards people who have been playing Destiny for close to a decade, and new players are left with snippets of story and systems upon systems upon systems, the relevance of each left poorly explained. That said, if you don't care about story, lore or even things making sense, Destiny 2 has a whole lot of things you can shoot at while turning your brain off, and I'll be honest, that's kind of appealing to me right now.

9. Destiny 2: Forsaken (PC, 2018) - 6:34 - February 8
I've not had the pleasure of playing a lot of Destiny campaigns, so it's not hard for Forsaken to be the best Destiny campaign I've played; it really just has to beat out the Destiny 1 campaign. But as a new player, it's hard to discern the deeper ramifications of the story: who are all these people you're fighting? Who's this woman the villain keeps talking to? Should I know my partner, Petra, from somewhere? And yet Forsaken still works better than Destiny 1 because at least there are clear character motivations from the main players. As for the gameplay, the actual missions offer some pretty neat combat scenarios, but it also suffers from a decent amount of busywork in the beginning. It's fun for the most part, but it's not mindblowing.

10. Tametsi (PC, 2017) - 48:07 (33:42 + 15:05 in 2021) - February 13
This one was a rollercoaster ride of emotion for me. A more difficult and curated set of Minesweeper puzzles that aren't all just same-size-square grids? Sure, I'll give it a shot. About 50 puzzles in I was cruising; 66 puzzles in and I was sneaking peeks at a comprehensive video walkthrough to get myself unstuck on specific steps that had me staring at the screen for half an hour. By puzzle 80 I had completely given up on Tametsi's "you never need to guess" mantra and was just randomly clicking on shit just to get through it all. A brief renaissance in the mid-90s saw me complete a few more puzzles without hitting a mine, but eventually I just spam-clicked my way to the end of the 100 puzzles. This leads me to Tametsi's biggest problem: the last third of its puzzles feel like they increase the difficulty just by giving you more stuff to keep track of, decision trees that go deeper where you have to remember more stuff about the puzzle to figure out the one thread you haven't tugged on yet. Tametsi started to feel like work, and while it's really hard to blame a $1 game for giving you this much quality content, I admit that the last third soured me on the experience, even if objectively it's a very well designed puzzle game.

Updated times.

Having that choice paralysis... Where I have like 8 currently playing games and I get stuck deciding what I wanna do, so just sink into my comfort games of Siege and FF lol. Already 44 hours racked up, which makes me feel guilty cuz that time could easily complete one or two games on my list instead... 😓

1. A Plague Tale (Steam) - Fantastic 3D linear adventure game in the mold of uncharted. You play a teenage girl on the run from the inquisition with her strange little brother. Running for their lives they encounter many residents of plague infested france, some helpful some not. Brilliant story telling and writing maybe let down by the slightly silly supernatural element towards the end. Controls as a bit frustrating as well. ★★★★ 1/2 (12.5 hours)

2. Lake (Steam) - Returning to her home town she left as a teenager, Meredith must confront where her life is and where she wants to end up. Amazing OST and great writing and characters to get involved with. Cozy. ★★★★ (9.5 hours)

3. Endzone: A World Apart (Steam) - Strange one, even though it's meant to be replayed like a 4x/city builder game once feels like enough. There wasn't any real peril apart from managing your own population, resources weren't scarce, everything felt like there would be no variation on replays. Fun for what it was but nothing I'd want to replay, even the scenarios. ★★ 1/2 (14.7 hours)

4. Vampire Survivors (Steam) - Digital crack, got all the unlocks and all the achievement and while I'm sure I'll keep playing it it can be considered complete ★★★★1/2 (19 Hours)

#1. Grow Home
Enjoyed it.

#2. Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
It's fine but I hate some of the map design, the one way routes in particular. Also it's one of those games where you kind of don't need to kill anything so at some point it's often just faster to just dodge the enemies and race to next checkpoint.

5. God of War (PS4) - Decided to play it again to celebrate the PC release. Still lots of fun, can't wait for Ragnarok. ★★★★

6. Let Them Come (Steam) - Fantastic little rogue-lite. You play a sentry gunner fighting off waves of aliens. Die, improve you weapons and stats etc... ★★★★ 1/2

7. Mafia Definitive Edition (Steam) - Runs a little wonky but is a fun pseudo-open world game. Like Mafia II there is nothing apart from the main missions, just a nice open world to drive around in. ★★★1/2

8. Aperture Desk Job (Steam) - Fun little demo for the Deck, can be played fine with just a standard controller. ★★★1/2

9. Far Changing Tides (PC GP) - Nice sequel this time focusing on sailing/submarining as opposed to a train in the original. Maybe a little too much sailing and not enough puzzling. Amazing ending if you have played the first. ★★★★

10. Horizon Forbidden West (PS4) - A bit bloaty but improves storytelling dramatically from the first. Great quests and acting. Movement and climbing is still pretty wonky. ★★★★

February: Halo Infinite - Still addictive Halo combat loop, but now the armor upgrades add extra fun into the mix in ways that Reach's armor abilities failed to do. The rest of the game was lacking. They need to come up with better mission objectives. It was the same 2-3 missions over and over again. And there's very little variety in terms of art. I know Halo is known for copy and paste level design, but this was the first Halo game where it was beginning to annoy me. There's the outside forest area which looks the same 90% of the time and there's the Banished and Forerunner stuff which are basically the same visually too. At least in previous Halos the Covenant, human, and Forerunner ones looked distinct from one another.

Also, the boss fights are horrendous. Cheap bullet sponge bullshit. Was doing my play through on Legendary and completed 80 something percent of the game until I got up to the Escharum boss fight's last stage and then I lost my patience and switched to Normal mode and finished the rest of the game. Now here's where this game is really trash... In past Halos you could replay levels. I wanted to complete the game that I almost finished on Legendary. I was shocked to learn this unfinished piece of garbage doesn't allow you to replay levels. One level and one boss fight from finishing it on Legendary and it wouldn't let me. Like, how is this a thing in a 2021 Halo game? It's insane how feature-poor this game is compared to the first four Halo games. Games as a service can fuck off.

March: Dark Souls: Prepare to die Edition - My first Souls game and it was fucking great. Love the variety in the world and enemy design... Such a stark difference from what I experienced with Infinite. Wish I hadn't kept putting off playing this game for so long. Thanks to Durante for the mod... Attrocious port of the game. Unfortunately, didn't get to enjoy the game with people helping me/screwing me over because of the servers being down do to the security vulnerabilities. Wish the ending was better, but the journey was so good that I wasn't soured by how short and weak it was. By the end of the game I was a tank... Sorta. Beat Gwynn and all the bosses in Artorias of the Abyss dlc in a single attempt, but would (along the way) get wrecked by normal enemy swarms and one-shotted by the bridge Dragon from early in the game. It's weird how this game can fool you into thinking you're going wreck the normal enemies, but then the game catches you off guard and you end up dying. Want to jump into DS II, but I think I need a break after that. :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

I was shocked to learn this unfinished piece of garbage doesn't allow you to replay levels. One level and one boss fight from finishing it on Legendary and it wouldn't let me. Like, how is this a thing in a 2021 Halo game? It's insane how feature-poor this game is compared to the first four Halo games. Games as a service can fuck off.
I recently finished Halo Infinite as well and with the latest update, there finally is a level select - but only after you've seen the end credits roll once. After that, you return to the open world and all icons for the main missions (including the ones that are located outside of the map, like the first two missions or the final mission) are accessible for fast-travel/starting.

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin - I enjoyed it, however it's inferior to the original. I missed fun NPCs like Siegmeyer, Andre, Lautrec, or Frampt with their fun/campy voice acting. The NPCs here were bland with the exception of 1 or 2 characters. Gameplay was fun after a few hours of progress, but way too frustrating at the beginning; The combination of a health bar death penalty, the roll being tied to a stat, low poise, and enemy mobs almost made me want to just dump this and skip to DS3. However, I'm stubborn and stuck with it and by hour 7 or 8 I was finally beginning to enjoy the game. There was a lot of other bullshit later on like the game tossing invader NPCs at the worst spots, but my overall experience with the game was positive.

It's a great puzzle game, and kind of still to this day has a very unique mechanics and look to it. I at least can't think of anything that's quite like it off the top of my head. Maybe surprisingly short? I didn't check hltb for the length before and was a bit surprised when the ending came. Steam says 5.8 hours, and as I'm checking hltb now, 5h40m is the median and about 6 hours is the average for completionist. So it checks out.

#14, Gateways
Also a neat puzzle platformer. Emphasis more on the puzzle and less on the platformer here as well. Imagine Portal, but 2D, but also some portals shrink or grow you, rotate your gravity and even have time travel mechanics. Some of the last puzzles are pretty hectic with your time travel echoes running around with you, upside down and on the walls.

15. Jedi Fallen Order (Origin) - Fantastic story telling, decent level building, stupid slides, janky combat and bug still present from launch. ★★★1/2

16. Desperados III (Steam) - Fantastic strategy game. 5 different characters with complimentary abilities clearing vast maps of badguys. You can pull off some crazy complex moves with the right timing. Levels might be a bit too long at times. ★★★★1/2 (38.5 hours)

17. Diorama Builder (Steam) - Zen like light puzzle game about the correct placement of parts on dioramas. Some have over 450 parts. Great voxel graphics. ★★★★ (3.4 Hours)

18. Barn Finders (Steam) - Not you typical playway job sim, is quite story heavy and very weird. Less barns than you'd think. ★★★ 1/2 (14.6 Hours)

19. What the Golf? (Steam)- Very weird gold game, sometimes the ball is the ball, sometimes it's a car, sometimes the epic exclusive rips off portal... ★★★ 1/2 (3.2 hours)

20 - Call of Duty WW2 (Steam) - Shoot, bang, shoot, bang, bang, hey it's that guy from that movie, shoot, bang... ★★★ (13.8 hours)

Dark Souls III - Finally "finished" the trilogy. Still need to obtain and complete The Ringed City DLC to fully complete it... Wish Humble had also included this DLC in the monthly package where I received this game.

Dark Souls III is a great game. It corrected one of my main issues with DS II that being the almost total absence of interesting NPC characters and engrossing voice acting. I still feel the first game is the best in that regard, but DS III gets really close to that first game's quality. It also (for the most part) corrected my other main issue with DS II being that game's slog of a first few hours with the unfair difficulty due to the overwhelming number of enemies it would toss at you at the same time, and the awful roll/evade mechanics due to roll being tied to a stat. DS III avoids this issue until the Ashes of Ariendel DLC, and by that point in the game I had massive damage output and decent defense so it wasn't nearly as frustrating as the first few hours of DS II.

I don't feel like elaborating on all the things I didn't like, but if I had to pick one main issue it would be the difficulty spike at the end of the game. Dark Souls I feels pretty fair and steady all the way through. Dark Souls 2 starts off awful and unfair, but after 7-8 hours in it began feeling fair and the challenge is fairly steady all the way to the end. Dark Souls III starts off relatively easy (by DS standards), but after the Catacombs of Carthus area the developers decided to get stupid and spike the difficulty up abruptly. It's not that big of a deal, but it did frustrate me and left somewhat of a bitter taste. To run into a wall after feeling you're in a tough but good groove sucks. It wasn't so much the regular enemies, obnoixous platformiing, and dangerous environemntal effects that bothered me so much, but rather some of the boss fights. Prince Lothric, Nameless King, Sister Friede, and Soul of Cinder can be pretty brutal for someone going through the game as a melee build with a greatsword. Stupidly fast bosses that with absurd range/reach that can teleport, lunge, and go invisible, and hit like a truck, doesn't really complement the mechanics of a dude with slow swinging greatsword... Lol.

Anyway, my overall experience with the game was very positive and I am happy that I finally got on board with this series. Would love to try Sekiro and Elden Ring one day. And maybe I'll pick up a PS an grab Demon Souls and Bloodborne if they never make their way to the PC.

Dante's Inferno - I don't even know where to begin with this one. This game is pure insanity. Check this out (1:01:42) :

The female demons have massive cocks that they use as weapons... wtf

or this (1:24:37):

It's so goofy and weird. Keep in mind this is loosely based on Inferno, that famous classical poem. And yet the people behind the Dead Space series turned it into a stupid God of War clone. This is one of those 360 games that's always been in the back of my mind as a game that I wanted to play through just because of how absurdly stupid the game is as a concept. But, it's stupid in a good way. I recall playing the demo, but I didn't feel like shelling out $60 bucks or whatever it was at the time. Anyway, thanks to Game Pass I was finally able to check this out and I was highly entertained throughout the journey. Finished it in under 6 hours. Some annoying platforming here and there but the combat was kinda fun for the most part... It's really the depiction of hell which makes this game a treat to experience. Also, there's a cool Godzilla-like sequence in the game where you control a massive demon to smash a demon city to rubble. It even allows you to use a cool atomic-like breath that is similar to Godzilla's, but the videos I've seen online don't show it. :/

Godzilla sequence (3:42:18):

The Surge - Very janky combat and platforming. The main character is constantly skating all over the place while the attack animations play out. Sometimes if you're near certain objects you may even levitate in the air after executing a dismemberment attack. There's no parrying so that sucks. Most of the enemy attacks play out virtually the same. Either they bludgeon you straight on, shoot you, or use flame throwers. There's little creativity in terms of movement or enemy evasions. The souls-like gameplay mechanic of losing your loot if you die twice never really felt important. In Dark Souls I would often worry about losing my souls upon entering a new area. In this game the threat was never really present with the exception of the boss fights so I think I may have lost my scrap (their version of souls) maybe like 3 times in my entire play through.

Still, despite how low rent this felt at times, I had a lot of fun mainly because the combat is kinda cool. Never got tired of ripping cyborg arms and legs off. It's a good $10 tier game. I would have been disappointed if I had paid $60 for it. I think I may have gotten it from on of the monthly/choice bundles so it worked out.

1. Shin Megami Tensei V - completed on 21st June - Never played any other Shin Megami Tensei game before but I've experienced the last 3 Persona games via playthroughs. SMTV is very gameplay-heavy and has very little in terms of story and characters. The characters don't go much further than just being archetypes when it comes to their motivations.

Gameplay was fun - exploration was good and the battle system was great. A few QoL issues here and there, such as certain items that that couldn't be easily discarded or sold, doesn't feel good to discard a party member that I invested so much time into, no drop rates for certain items that can be acquired by once a demon is defeated.

Overall, a fun game and I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

21. Scarf (steam) - Delightful 3D puzzle platformer, lots of tools and interesting mechanics. ★★★★ 1/2 (5.9 Hours)

22. Alien Isolation (Steam) - Great story, setting and mechanics. Terrible terrible stealth. ★★1/2 (20 hours or so)

23. Rage 2 (Steam) - Short story with the world filled with endless filler. Fun game but would have liked Mad Max 2. Short for an open world, 30 hours for 100% ★★★1/2 (30.1 hours)

24. Hardspace Shipbreaker (Steam) - Played a heap in early access, the story mode is vastly shortened and progression sped up. Great chill game, performance is still peak unity. ★★★★ 1/2 (19 hours for main story restart)

25. Surviving the Aftermath (Steam) - Feels like an almost identical game to Endzone, one campaign was enough, got all the achievements. Campaign takes far longer than Mars★★★ (35 Hours)

26. The Last Campfire (steam) - Beautiful 3d puzzle platformer, genuiely touching. ★★★★★ (9 Hours)

27. Deadlight Director's Cut (Steam) - Oldschool 2d platformer, super bugger, the controls suck and does not work well with modern computers. Was getting 7fps in some places and even with endless .ini changes, it maxed at low 20s. A Shame as it's interesting. VO is bad as well. ★★1/2 (3.9 Hours)

28. Trek to Yomi (PC Gamepass) - Style over substance but what style ★★★ 1/2

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy - What an incredible game. Flawed for sure... Brutally linear... Awful QTE game play... Terrible trial and error dialogue selecting segments where if you select the wrong choices you get stuck in a loop replaying a scene until you pick the correct dialogue... And a ton of bugs. I can't recall playing another game as buggy as this one. That said, everything else in the game was freaking great. I was genuinely impressed as I was expecting an uninspired shitty licensed cash grab. It features fun combat (although very shallow), beautiful graphics even in performance mode, and great voice acting, Remember when people bashed this game for winning Best Narrative at the VGAs? Admittedly I haven't played the other nominees lol, but at the very least I would say this game was deserving of winning something like that. It's so far and above compared to a lot of other games I play. Really liked seeing how the Guardians came together as a team at the end. Also, I was very surprised by the writing. I'm not a fan of the MCU and I was expecting the lamest banter between the heroes. I think there's a toggle to make them speak less? Anyway, I didn't change anything and very early on I came to the conclusion that I really loved hearing them talk to one another. Drax in particular was excellent.

#17, The Looker. It's fine. Most of the jokes don't really land though.
#18, A Plague Tale: Innocence. It's pretty good but it does feel like the probably moderate budget shows in some places.
#19, Control. It's good! Going to do the side mission and DLC as well, depending on how lengthy they are, I might make them a separate entry. Who knows. I haven't checked hltb as I'll soon find out anyway so it's not that important.

#20, Control DLC (The Foundation & AWE). Still good but a little samey at this point. Foundation takes place in a very boring cave system and AWE is more brutalist office environments, so it's more of the same.

29. House Flipper (Steam) - Fix up trashed houses and sell for profit. Gets a bit samey and boring after a while. ★★★ (15 Hours)

30. Battletech (Steam) - Fantastic somewhat sandbox TB strategy game. The DLC was a bit disappointing in what it added though ★★★★ (70 Hours)

31. Hook 2 (Steam) - Fantastic short puzzle game, improves on the first by adding a 3rd dimension ★★★★1/2 (1.5 hours)

32. Cats in Time (Steam) - Find the 10 cats in the various dioramas, some are hidden behind puzzles, others out in the open. ★★★ 1/2 (3.2 Hours)

33. Power Washer Simulator (PC Gamepass) - Very Zen cleaning simulator with a story that goes places you don't expect. ★★★★

34. Golf Club Wasteland (Steam) - While the actual golf is passable, the story, soundtrack and experience are top notch ★★★★ (2.4 Hours)

35. Bioshock Infinite Buried at Sea Parts 1 + 2 DLC (Steam) - Two quite different extensions to the main story playing as other characters in the universe. Doesn't do anything too different to the main story but fans of the setting and characters will like them. ★★★ (9 Hours)

36. Werewolf The Apocalypse: Earthblood (Steam) - Decent story about the environment and conservation, eurojanky in almost every way. Bafflingly unexplained mechanics, the world is about the size of a big carpark etc... ★★1/2 (9 Hours)

37. Batman Arkham Origins + DLC (Steam) - Fun Arkham game, Batman really should have kept the electro gloves for later games :p. Like an instant win fight button. ★★★★ (35 Hours)

38. Dark Pictures - Man of Medan (Steam) - Fun story about a "ghost ship", lots of QTEs and quick decisions and it seems like many different outcomes. Seems like I got the best ending but still with two dead characters. ★★★1/2 (18 Hours)

Yakuza: Like a Dragon - I had a fun time playing this. My first Yakuza game! It's surprising that I stuck with it to the end, because I hadn't touched a JRPG in ages. I didn't know if I would have the patience for it. 113 hours and I didn't even 100% it. @_@ I believe it's the first JRPG that I have completed in over 20 years. @_@ Fuck. I'm old. The last one I played and beat was Final Fantasy X on the PS2. Don't recall ever buying one during the 360/PS3 gen, and I skipped all of gaming last gen outside of a few indie games on PC. And to be honest, I was going to bail on this one early on. I think I have ADHD when it comes to videogames these days. I do not want to sit in front of a TV and just watch shit happen instead of playing the game. I'M TOO GODDAMN IMPATIENT. I FUCKING HATE CUTSCENES, lol. It was cool to see fancy cutscenes in the 90's when gameplay graphics were kinda ugly, but I'm not impressed by it anymore. And this game is just full of it. The first three hours were brutal for me. It was like here's 10 minute cutscene, followed by 3 minutes of walking across a city map, followed by a four minute cutscene, and then a 2 minute turn based battle, which is then followed by another 10 minute cutscene. It was driving me nuts and I was going to bail, but I stuck with it and ultimately fell in love with the game. I fell in love with the characters, the humor, the story, and even the cutscenes. I was finally able to enjoy them because they were so incredibley amusing. The Kimichi and Masochist Substories are classics. And the ending to this game actually made me tear up. It was an incredible experience.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition - Despite owning a 360 back in the day I have always ignored this series. I've been curious about Gears 5 ever since it was released because it looked kinda nice in the videos I saw of it. So, given that I have Game Pass I thought it would be neat to finally go through and experience the entire series for the first time. Initially, I wanted to play them in order (although I have no desire to play the original after beating the UE), but now I don't know if I have the willpower to play through the series as I was intending because playing GOW: UE was both a fun experience and incredibly frustrating one. It feels very dated and underwhelming. It's an old game so feeling dated makes sense, but I could easily play Doom, Half-Life, or Halo CE and while they all feel dated compared to modern versions they still hold up. There's still magic in those games that make them fun. I found playing GOW to be incredibly annoying experience because of the brain dead AI, awful writing, annoying characters, and combat that wasn't as tight as I was expecting. I went in expecting the graphics to not be impressive, but I was surprised by how underwhelming the combat and entire game felt in general. That brain dead AI... Goddamn do I hate Dom. Fucking useless bastard. I understand that CO-OP was the selling point of this game back in the day, but I feel you still have to deliver a solid solo experience and this wasn't it.

A Plague Tale: Innocence - This was such an awesome game. I had never paid attention to it when it was first released so I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. This felt like a AAA level release in terms of visuals and voice acting. And it feels like it's been ages since I've enjoyed a really good stealth-based game, so I really enjoyed experiencing another game like this.

Gears of War 2 - This was incredible. I was not expecting to like this one so much after playing the mostly underwhelming original (Ultimate Edition). This has to be one of the most drastic examples of a sequel being SIGNIFICANTLY better than the original game in virtually every way. If this is a 10 out of 10 then Gears 1 is a 1 out of 10 by comparison. The combat is significantly tighter and more varied. You even get to fly a bunch of vehicles and creatures.. It's also not Greys of War anymore. There is a lot of color and artistic variety in this sequel compared to the one-note original. I was impressed by how good it looks 14 years later... Granted I think it has FPS and a res boost on XBOX.

39. Biomutant (Steam) - Incredibly dense open world post apocalyptic setting. 90% of the content is boring tick box stuff. Feels like they built a world and didn't really know what to do with it at times. A smaller tighter experience would have fit their story budget better. ★★ 1/2 (43 hours)

40. Gas Station Simulator (steam) - Run a gas/petrol station in the desert on route 66. A lot of juggling jobs and other stuff. Aliens as well, what is it with western job sims and aliens? ★★★ 1/2 (14 hours)

41. Saint's Row (Let's say Epic or PS4) - The world is good, some fun story stuff but heaps of buggy repetitive content. Feels designed to appeal to all but appeals to none. Also no male cockey geezer voice so massive fail on that one. ★★ 1/2 (Maybe 20-30 Hours)
