So eh... Amazon has killed comixology.eu
So now to get my DRM Free backups I need to buy in amazon.es and then go to an obscure menu in amazon.com to download it.... and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to access my library from amazon.es (even tho I would read from there cause web browser versions were always lower quality than on the app or online rips which always pissed me off)

E: Apparently I can only get DRM-Free backups of what I already had but they won't keep them for new purchases ...

I would go as far as saying Amazon, in their moronic ego trip, made digital comics takes several step-years backward.
It's truly shocking how they fired a whole gun on their own foot.
I have no doubt people will continue to get comics, but sales will take a turn for the worse until they come back to their senses and at least work on a landpage or something. And that's talking about US customers, outside US the situation is all the more worrying. You have no discoverability like the US, but you also have another layer of shit UI that presents you everything but what you are looking for.

I'll check out the 200AD bundle too, cheers.

Yeah, checking for dupes is the annoying part in these bundles. And publisher's respect is variable from bundle to bundle. Fairly certain my last 2000AD one didn't need full price as the dupes were in the higher tier, but it's unfortunately not the case here.

Started Caballistics, inc (also from 2000AD). on a whim and for the time being it's... there. Certainly not bad, but not on the level I was hoping for.

Too much pop culture references in dialogs, too much edge for the cool of it. There is still largely time for it to be great as I read three stories and the narration takes its time to set things up. Reading it because if I understood correctly it leads into Absalom, which I'm very much interested in reading.

Have you ever read Vampirella ? How is it ? Always seemed a little too dated to me, without the cache of things like Creepy etc. But I could and am surely wrong, but that's the best part of it, discovering gem under your nose.

I have TONS of cbz files from the last few years that i haven't even looked at, Vampirella being one of them. I went through a phase of buying most of the bundles as they were dead cheap but i'm sure i'll get around to them someday.

I'd imagine like most of the media i consume most of these comics are fine enough for passing the time on a rainy sunday but they're not going to change my life. There again 2000AD have had some amazing stories even in Dredd if you look past the parody of America and American media that wraps Megacity. It's always wandered between gritty serious and comedy with a layer of edge over the top. You need to step back to see the metacommentary and sometimes a story is just there because they wanted to have some fun.

If you want some thoughtful stuff that's 2000AD adjacent because of the writers and artists then check out the Crisis magazines.

I think it's ample time I downloaded my comics bundles and sorted them. Amazon showed us that there is nothing better than a local copy.
...
Man, that will take ages and so much space :cryblob:

Well, unfortunately I think it will be a no for me, dog Caballistics.inc
It has its moments, but finishing the book and thinking 'well, that didn't make a lot of sense' was not a good feeling. First Gordon Rennie was a mixed bag. Too cool for school, and lacking in the narrative department.

I don't think i ever read that one. I haven't regulary read 2000AD for 20 years so i don't know much about the "new" stuff.
I only started to pick up the odd issue now and then this last year after a long long break. I have 2 issues from around christmas still in their sealed bags.

I should just start reading 2000AD with their usual late December issue where every story is new. It’s not like I could ever catch up with Dredd or any other staples from the company.
But it’s so hard for my OCD :confounded-face:

And it’s not like the Complete case files contain shit either. It’s fluctuating and often boring, but there are serious gems in old Dredd.

Dredd Case Files #14 - Underwhelmed by Necropolis so far. For an event that seems to have been relatively heavily hyped and planned for (it was set up by 'Dead Man', 'Tales of the Dead' Man and 'Countdown to Necropolis'), it's a super basic 'return of X' story.

Ai caramba....
Green Lantern: Far Sector is out of stock. I knew the book was good, but either DC didn't print many copies or it legit sold really well.
Was hoping to get one for my bday but I guess I'll just wait and keep an eye out :V

Yeah this change is BS. I'll attempt to claim my backups somehow in the near future, but this makes buying digital comics legally difficult =_=

Oh, it's so bad that I would argue that the only good solutions for high-volume readers is going back to physical or piracy. It's that level of 'let's light our own market on fire'.

Thankfully some webcomics or indies sell digital comics through their own website so on that end it's all good.

I'm in trouble... or free.
I took a moment just before reading some classic Dredd to contemplate reading monthly comics from the big two and... I can't gather the fuck.
Reading what I want when I want and with a minimal dose of spandex really worked for me for the last few weeks.

I don't know if it will pass but I'm really uninterested. In fact I should read Jujutsu Taisen or some old Vertigo (Outlaw Nation). That excites me.
For a mainstream super hero obsessed reader, this is disturbing, and if true, liberating. Too much drivel published these days. I'm not paid to read it.

Some quick recommendations:

Something is Eating the Children is really good. The character interaction and dialog is well done and Erica bonding with others is done really well. She isn't a cold distanced loner and does actually show some care to the people around her.
I strongly recommend getting the deluxe edition which has the first 3 tpbs since it's a slow paced story. What I liked most about it is
at first you think it's gonna be Erica dealing with monsters in the town then moving on to another town, instead it eventually builds up to the Organization showing up in a 'scorched earth' attempt by the 3rd book, thus skipping the equivalent of 2-3 shonen arcs :V

The Thing by Walter Mosely is superb. It's a self contained story centered around Thing and has great art.

The collected edition will release in a few months and the last issue will release soon. It goes at its own pace and while it can feel fast it progresses the plot quite well.

One piece 1044 spoilers

It seems like the fruit just kind of amplify that joyful nature of luffy, he's just now high as fuck and finding everything he can do funny, looks like the fruit is highly versatile in terms of shapeshifting, it suits him, and not really too different so far than his usual power he has unlocked on his own, with other than the obvious strength/rubber improvement without having to use a trick to accomplish some of this stuff, and he's only bound by his imagination, I don't care too much about the combat part too much, it's an upgrade that's going to happen and it's fun.

I'm more curious about all the joyboy stuff since it's the more important part of this. It's still kind of a "destiny" trope that we already knew since day 1, I think one of the "problems" is that this imply sun god fruit is necessary all along even though he has earned it, people have it wrong about it "undermining Luffy's achievements", no it doesn't, he earned it, but this means other characters don't stand on equal ground with their dreams, because what I get is it implied "you'll never be joyboy because you never ate this fruit or it hasn't chosen you because it has a will of its own", even though that's not the primary reason (your will is the most important thing), it's still a bummer, I can see why it can sour people on it, but it's not really that much of a problem in the grand scheme because it wasn't like this story is about a single "winner", but a group of people working together with/help him.

So far we don't even know what One Piece/Joyboy even is other than a few details, so we could only speculate on that part of the story.

1044 Spoiler

Regarding Luffy's laughing, I wonder if the actual Joyboy has influence on Luffy's mental state. As Gorosei said in this chapter, Zoan fruits may have their own will. During Arabasta, we saw a canon who has consumed the dog DF and become a Dog Gun with personality. As a gun couldn't have its own willpower, it is obvious that the DF gave the will to the canon. Although we haven't seen any Zoan fruit being able to mess with their masters' (other than non-living thing) brains, being a Zoan fruit with a God name, Joyboy may be able to do so?

I think a big thing that many people miss is that awakening devil fruit is always meant to be rare. So far we have seen very few awakened DF users, and Joyoby DF hasn't awakened for over 800 years. 800 YEARS! Pirate King passed away for only 24 years and look how the world had changed after his passing. I feel that there is some conditions for the DF to awake. As you have said, if Luffy didn't put in the work, no one in the world other than a handful of people could know about Joyboy.

Although there is a lot of Internet rage to go through some discussions, I am honestly very happy to see how One Piece can still make such a huge splash with one single chapter. Can't wait to read the next chapter so Oda can give us more insights. And I really want Dr Vegapunk to show up asap. They will probably be the one who will explain everything about DF.

Yeah I remember the DF literally giving objects a soul, like the Gun in arabasta, I like Oda specifically did that with Usopp asking "wait it doesn't have a soul", otherwise Oda could've just fed a dog a gun fruit. The carnivorous Zoans also supposedly are more violent too in nature. For Luffy I imagine it's just a mannerism thing, with how simple minded Luffy is, there probably won't be much to it other than that, but I wouldn't write off the potential of Luffy having a flashback about Joyboy somewhere down the line towards the end.

Yeah I also think the DF kept "escaping" the world government's hands mean there were likely a ton of people already eating it and they didn't accomplish much to be notable, to a point the WG just try to secure the fruit just as a precaution, but don't care enough about it up until now. The recent meeting with Shanks is incredibly sus though, and that they're now panicking despite CP0 not giving much of a shit earlier on.

Oda still got it, I have never seen a long lasting Shonen writer to be still so passionate and creative with their work, you can tell more than half or even most get burned out or no longer care about their story, or just wrote themselves into a corner but still have to keep going. Oda had a clear goal from the beginning and people are still so hyped to watch all the mysteries in the One Piece world unfold. Glad it's an extremely popular series too, well deserved and it means people have taste lol.

I wonder if Vegapunk will be tied into Kuma and Sabo, I wonder where their next destination is, Elbaf? There's also Lodestar for last island. I hope it doesn't lead to a detour like Marineford to be honest, but I'm up for anything.

Yeah, I can totally see your point on Luffy being just high and happy thanks to the new power. It is funny that even Kaido poped his eyes out when getting rekt by Luffy in this chapter.

The meeting with Shanks is extremely intriguing. I agree that it is the turning point that pushed Gorosei to order CP0 to eliminate Luffy. As Shanks is going to play a major role in the upcoming Movie "Film Red", I feel that we will see a huge exposure of Shanks' true nature very, very soon.

And yes, there are so many loose ends that waiting to be tied up. I honestly have no idea what the story will be heading, but same as you, I am up to everything that Oda wants to write. His work is not perfect and some scenes may take way too long to develop, Oda is totally deserve the praise and what he does to not just shonen but Japanese manga in general is massive. I have burnt out before but the latest development totally reignites my love towards One Piece. I feel like a kid again, and this feeling is surreal.

This gets me thinking about Luffy's dream that's supposedly childish, maybe his life time goal is to bring joy and laughter to everyone, or something along those lines, I feel like some of these story elements become kind of a self insert for Oda, or somewhat breaking the 4th wall, Luffy becoming cartoony in art, and devil fruits are sometimes based on literally things that don't even exist, like... most of the mythical fruits are more concepts than existing objects/beings, as if they're mostly things people hoped/wished for, there are too many rules that it feels artificial but too complicated to be manmade, they're often based on imagination and creativity being their only limitation. I really wonder how he'll explain it, but with One Piece it often has really simple and charming explanations, remember Klabautermann? It sounds like such a dumb explanation to what fixed Going Merry at first but then becomes the most heart breaking thing at the end of the Water 7 arc.

Even with Roger finding out what One Piece is at Laughtale, it feels like he just read through the journey of Luffy, just a funny grand adventure that wasn't recorded in history.

I just read some manga ! After watching anime. My god, it’s weeboo time, is it ?

So Sakamoto Days ch 1-3 was good. Drawing of fights and some characters is maybe a little messy, but whatever. The big question is will it stay a sort of gag manga or will the writing evolve ?
I’m relatively interested.

I have a bizarre request. Could some people who speak Japanese translate me a page from a famous manga ? Maybe 「Echo」 ?

Uh, context ? As I discussed in a convo on ERA some weeks ago, one of the first few pages of Berserk 1 seems horribly translated in French. In English it's just there, a little boring, but it gets the job done without sounding brain dead stupid.

I would like to know, for curiosity's sake, if maybe the French translator was more faithful to the original meaning (which wouldn't absolve them at all from the horrible translation, but would be interesting) or if he was really that bad.

For reference,
"You fell into my trap, fool!!"
"Je t'ai bien niqué, mon mignon" (litteral. I fucked you good, cutie)

"The only one trapped is you, bitch!!"
"Tel est niqué qui croyait niquer" (litteral. He is fucked who thought he was fucking)

One Piece 1045 scans and translations are out

The whole fight is very fun but the tone is so disturbing, with commentary about how "that thing" has Luffy voice and Luffy's "voice" (life energy?) is fading... Seems like G5 is killing him.

Yeah since it's been established in marineford/skypiea people's "voices" fade when they die, I feel like it's implying Luffy is just literally dying and maybe he's just able to just control or forcing his heart beat to move? We saw him using conqueror haki even knocked out so it's not impossible. We'll see, knowing Oda it could just fade when someone is knocked out lol.

It's another fun chapter, I love Luffy's awakening since he can now do some really crazy stuff with it, seems like his form still has the balloon/rubber logic he always has where things like going gigantic will take a ton out of him and he'll deflate right after. Also with how he's supposedly also coating himself in haki and using conqueror, Oda doesn't really have to draw them anymore like G4 lol

I am now convinced that Luffy will die after the fight (or already dead but G5 is helping him to go overlimit a bit). Looks like we are going to see how Law / Chopper will save Luffy. Also yeah, G5 design is growing on me. I imagined the hair was like fire like many fan artists did, but it turns out Luffy being completely white as mentioned in this chapter. It fits the "moon" / silhouette aesthetics well.

Speaking of moon, I wonder if there is any connection between Luffy's DF and the moonrace discovered by Enel in the cover story?

yeah I feel like being a "sun god" fruit is just symbolic thing Oda wanted to add because he wanted to make that "freedom and liberation" connection (just for the convenient hype and power up), it wasn't like joyboy was a literal god, and most of the power is still based on rubber, people got too hung up on the name "god" because we always see them to be a shonen trope.

I just feel like Joyboy and DF have some sort of connection, the SMILE fruit and the main ingredients being called SAD sounds like it might be related to him, because the opposite to Sad is Joy.

But yeah I'm curious with where Oda will go with the whole Moon/Sun thing.

Yeah, I even saw some stupid people commented that Luffy being a Sun God wouldn't be afraid of Akainu's magma, so Ace died for nothing... Really made me mad. Basically, I think Joyboy was being worshipped as Sun God because of his liberation act. Like how the Sun Pirates did to the emancipation of the Fish-Man race.

I have totally forgotten the Smile fruit before you mentioning it. I remembered the adverse effect of failed Smile fruit being one that couldn't stop laughing? Sounds like a connection with Luffy's current condition. Man, we need Caesar and Vegapunk to show up and explain everything now!

Man, we need Caesar and Vegapunk to show up and explain everything now!
people love that silly power scaling stuff, like I don't even care if Luffy never fight Akainu at the end but there are people out there who wants to make the admirals enemies that the strawhats will fight as the villains, and they want some scientific explanation why he can even beat them or whatever lol.

yeah Smile was a major theme post time skip, in this arc people literally were forced to laugh/smile even under Kaido's ruling because of SMILE.

it's also a common theme through out the series with D people, all the D folks die while smiling and even the non D folks like Oden. Robin's back story with Saul was painful :(

Scans are out for One Piece 1046.

Zunesha just kinda confirmed for everyone it's not a reincarnation thing at the least. "It's as if you're right there. We should put our faith in this boy."

Cover page figures don't seem like the other Germa kids. Also a bit different than Judge's boots. Blackbeard pirates? I figure this might be a good time to get Poneglyphs and kidnap Pudding. Maybe he has the original Fishman Island one? Doesn't explain how he know all of that though but then he's been with Whitebeard for ages.

If anyone's on Marvel Unlimited and looking for something to read, please please check out Immortal Hulk. I'm not a huge Hulk fan usually, but dang this series is fantastic. It's blending actual good psychological storytelling about Banner's system and its various alters with absolute horror and gore in a way I never expected. An incredible throwback to old 80's/90's horror comics and absolutely great storytelling. I'm on issue thirty-something and I could barely put it aside since.

Following on with the Shueisha Hololive collabs. The girls became editor-in-chief for a day and made their own manga.
42 minute translated video. Posted in VTuber thread but posting here in case anyone else is interested.

Finished Immortal Hulk, my god it's so good. I hear that the following series completely ignores everything that happened there, huh? Not sure I'm interested then.

Started Strange Academy for the time being now, and it's also off to a really fun start!

One Piece 1048 Scans are out

Orochi finally dead, he's probably my least favorite thing of this arc, his character is just so boring and it's always been speculated "denjiro will probably finish him off to save Hiyori since he's been gone forever", that makes his end less satisfying and I never liked that idea that Hiyori can't stand on her own and needs saving. The flash backs of Oden in the 9 red scabbards point of view where they hear the gun shot, and Wano's people suffer/wishes leading up to the clash were good, that punch will probably be like Dragonball's final kamehameha that will take up an entire chapter since Momo still needs to move that island, lol.
