Yeah, the God of High School adaption is unfortunately not good.God of Highschool is trash
After that hype-ass first episode chase scene it hasn't recovered at all.
The characters are uninteresting, the mysterys are uninteresting and the pacing is HORRIBLE.
The marriage episode felt like it should have been the season finale to 12 episodes of character developments, instead its drama about characters i dont care about doing things i have no business to care about.
And worst of all, the fights aren't even that good. Don't get me wrong, they aren't bad either, but if your entire show is a tournament arc, you gotta deliver at least a consistent 8.5/10, when most of the show is a 6 with some 7's and 8's.
At least Deca-dence continues to be a joy
It's a shame because in theory, this should totally be my thing :/Yeah, the God of High School adaption is unfortunately not good.
I actually liked todays episode because it managed to set up some basic ass conflict and character drama and had cool action, but in the grand scheme of things it's too little too late I guess.
It's a shame, because I quite like the webtoon. It's not going to win an award when it comes to writing, but it's wildly better than what the frantic pace of the adaption delivers. And has consistently great action coreography and paneling that just gets better and better.
Example: Daewi vs Mori fight in the webtoon (chapter 35). The paneling in the first half is just awesome.
I don't know. They should have either taken their time with proper character development, build up, etc and ended it with the Mori vs Daewi fight or throw out all that stuff entirely and just have a continous, escalating action animation fest. As it stands, it tries to do both and achieves neither. :/
I've also started Your Lie in April, again based on a recommendation from Gevin
I'm confused, Deca-Dence has no source material, it's an original production. Or am I misunderstanding something.Deca-Dence has really been awesome. It also highlights how much of a difference in quality there is between anime that's nearly not made with a plan and anime made based on source material where the author actually has an idea of where they are going.
Looking at you, Trigger.
Seriously? Then I'm doubly amazed. I could swear I thought it was based on a light novel or something to that effect.I'm confused, Deca-Dence has no source material, it's an original production. Or am I misunderstanding something.
Yeah, it's original. Seems to have quite a history though, apparently has been in the works for 4 years.Seriously? Then I'm doubly amazed. I could swear I thought it was based on a light novel or something to that effect.
Not to be obstinate about the point I sought to make earlier but this would explain it. I have had the distinct feeling so many anime productions, despite their budgets, tended to wing it with their plot and writing on an episode by episode basis. But Deca-Dence is one of the most thoughtful, tightest show I've seen in a while. It's truly amazing.Yeah, it's original. The Road To DECA-DENCE: Project History & Production Notes 01-05
Yuzuru Tachikawa’s DECA-DENCE is one of the most unique action anime in ages, but its ambition, scale, and the coherence between themes and design philosophy make a whole lot more sense once …blog.sakugabooru.com
Thanks for that list! I've fallen off the season-wagon so it's good to have at least a few pointers. Also, I'm about to finish Deca-Dence, and I really need to get back to Mahoutsukai no Yome. What are you watching this season? I am going to watch at least these three:
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Munou na Nana
- Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken
Already watched the first episode of Nana. As someone who have read the mange, the first episode is faithful but the pacing is a bit too fast.
Very, very excited towards Adventure of Dai. One of my favorite voice actresses, Tanezaki Atsumi is voicing Dai. I heard it has very good story as well, and I just can't resist a long, old-school adventure story.
I still need to get back to Deca Dence. I remember watching it for a few minutes of the first episode but not sure why I dropped it lol. Also be reminded that Dai is rumored to have over 100 episodes so you can decide if you want to follow it week-by-week.Thanks for that list! Hypnosis Mic is super popular in Japan. Otome stuff is totally not my thing though (I would rather watch BL than otome) so can't speak about its quality. Some of my friends are excited towards it anyway so I will try to follow it's reception.Gonna watch Akudama Drive since that's written by Kazutaka Kodaka (Danganronpa)
Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle sounds interesting but idk if the source material is supposed to be good or not
Holy crap! Though Dai's original showing was all of my childhood, and my memory of it has huge holes in the show's plot given that I wasn't able to watch it regularly. I need to finish it this time .I still need to get back to Deca Dence. I remember watching it for a few minutes of the first episode but not sure why I dropped it lol. Is the Made in Abyss movie a continuation of Season 1, or a recap?Finished watching Deca-Dence. That was excellent throughout. Really great series.
Re Zero Season 2 Part 1 is now also over and boy was that really good as well. That season simultaneously had some of the most brutal stuff yet, but also some of the most emotionally powerful. The episode about Subaru's life before he got isekai-ed was beautiful, and imho is one of the reasons Re:Zero is a cut above most other isekai shows.
I've also watched the Made in Abyss movie and uhh, yes that was a Made in Abyss movie
Although, while probably more fucked up than Season 1, I don't think it hit me as emotionally hard as that. But that might be partly because of "getting used" to it.
There are 2 recap movies (Journey's Dawn, Wandering Twilight), which I haven't watched, and a third one, Dawn of the Deep Soul, which is a straight continuation from season 1 and what I saw .Is the Made in Abyss movie a continuation of Season 1, or a recap?
Proceeds to immediately rush to see that third oneThere are 2 recap movies (Journey's Dawn, Wandering Twilight), which I haven't watched, and a third one, Dawn of the Deep Soul, which is a straight continuation from season 1 and what I saw .
Yeah that stuff legitimately sucks. There's unfortunately some of it in the movie as well, though it probably isn't even half a minute total. Still, that adds nothing aside from making it harder to recommend. Ugh.Proceeds to immediately rush to see that third one
Thank you! That show was so harrowing and wonderful at the same time. I'll never forget so many of those moments, even if it did get seriously creepily at times with its odd sexualization.
and thats just the beginning , this was just an introduction to Arc 4Re Zero Season 2 Part 1 is now also over and boy was that really good as well. I watched that movie in theatre back in Japan. Heard people crying when the credits roll but all I felt was anger and the urge to punch something.Watched the start of it, got increasingly uneasy. Then Reg got his arm cut off and pissed himself in pain and I noped right out. Not sure this is the kind of show I can enjoy anymore, despite the sense of awe and mystery of the Abyss.
I already knew that before that movie but at least it had meaning and it was more or less balanced against the rest. This made me seriously consider dropping the show entirely. It's just not worth the anguish at this point. There can't be a worthy payoff to such suffering that isn't sadistic and just stupid. But the author is a sick bastard.
Yeah, if there is a season 2 I will keep watching but it wouldn't be a surprise that if I suddenly dropped it one day. Hopefully the movie is the series' worse (as in darkest) moment.I already knew that before that movie but at least it had meaning and it was more or less balanced against the rest. That show's animation budget is as ridiculous as its characterization and writing is really good. None of that wooden dialogue, the pacing is on-point, it's just a fantastic action/shonen show. I'm having a blast. The Jujutsu Kaisen ending rules
The rest of episode 2 didn't disappoint either. There was some sick animation on display. If they keep this up for the actual big confrontations, than whew
It's beautiful. Also, this is rather surprising given the kind of rating the show is getting. What's up with that? I know anidb can be, well, smug and elitist at the best of times, but this is still a bit low for such production values. This shot from Assault Lily
Actually it is a misleading shot. The majority of the scenes do not look like that haha. The show is more like a commercial for the original doll line. I think it is mindless fun with some good fight scenes. People may find it full of tropes but I don't mind them. It's beautiful. The first two episodes had an incredible style so far, the character introductions, the scene changes, the character designs...So Akudama Drive is pretty bonkers. And good, from the first 5 minutes.
I have just finished the second one and I can confirm that this show is toe to toe with Jujutsu and Kimetsu for the productions that most impressed me this season. Seriously, the art of those backgrounds alone, woah. The first two episodes had an incredible style so far, the character introductions, the scene changes, the character designs...
