Just finished Doom Eternal, took me 24 hrs according to Steam on Nightmare, game is fun, 2016 still better tho', the arenas and movement on this one are not very well thought out, and the boss fights are somewhat underwhelming.

Monooboe Have you played any Piranha Bytes style games before? Like Gothic or Risen?
They are hard as hell at the start and you gradually become powerful, they do not hold your hand, running away or cheesing difficult encounters with Party NPCs is a valid tactic, cheese of all forms is a valid tactic, areas and goals can be surrounded by enemies that will 1-hit kill you and running for your life to get through them to a safe area is a valid tactic, they can be very obtuse with their puzzles and are slightly broken... but by the end of the game you are kicking ass all over the shop.

Elex has a slightly broken/not-explained skill system, a HUGE world, lots of dying, tons of things to do, satisfying exploration, lots of dying, 3 Factions you can choose to join each with their own style/character/outlook. I love it and if you liked Risen etc it's more of the same.

I don't know about Outward but i've been curious to try it.

I used a village guard to kill the final boss of the Gothic 3 expansion.

Hope it's either MS, EA or Take Two as those are the companies who would release WB games on Steam, especially MS and EA. Activision would use Battle.net unless Epic pays them. Take Two woudl release on PC (either day 1 on Steam or after Epic exclusivity period), but would probably fill the games with mtx. EA is a lot better these days with both Steam and Origin releases, but Im afraid thery could close down studios if they don't perform well enough.

However, my top choice would be MS in the form of both more platform choices and taking care of the studio and not putting tons of mtx in them.

Sony would be the worst. Only 1 platform choice and I don't wanna play games in 30 FPS.

Crikey ive just been reading about some of the twitter hate that the devs and voice actors of The Last of Us have been getting.

That shit is crazy. Whats wrong with people. Its disgusting.
Gamers are insane
Battletoads is coming to PC too apparently (was previously only announced for Xbox).

Thanks Phil! Sadly after Streets of Rage 4, it would need to do a lot to impress interested fans besides nostalgia.
Gotta remember to get this before it ends :3

I feel like MS or Take Two are the likely winners if that actually happens. Take are one thing, but until lawyers start getting involved nothing is concrete. They might just not sell and decide to do some private equity thing and fuck everyone over. Who knows?!

I haven't played HZD (bought it tho its cheap here), but I been trying to play RDR2. The setting is great but half the mechanics are an insult to your time. Its to the point where I don't loot half the time the people I kill. So keep that in mind. I still enjoy the game though.

I'd go with Red Dead Redemption 2

Game mechanically and settingly, they are very different (I have finished both on console), but I vote Horizon.
Phew, you guys are not making it easy! :sweaty-blob:

I've heard a few people mention the same thing regarding the archaic mechanics in RDR2, and in a way that makes me more curious about it. :thinking-blob:

Also the need for them to spawn events near you a lot of the time ruins the fun after awhile because hunting is pretty chill and you feel the need to do the event. I have to say that when I tried my wife's cousins copy on PS4 I am glad that I got it on PC, the control on console is sluggish and slow.

Been looking at some reviews for it but it looks so eurojank haha! Also it seems to lack any kind of personality, BUT i´m still curious about it. A huge world that is rewarding to explore sounds good.

Fun fact, I never really got into ANY piranha byte game before, most I think was Risen 2, it was the pirate one right?
I just want to throw my hat in and say that I bounced off Elex hard. The combat is comically bad and the jank is real.

Outward feels badly cheap and has overall a much smaller world. It basically is a bit of a trekking simulator. If that appeals to you, it should deliver and then some.

According to different people who knows MS on Twitter, MS has a giant warchest and if they really want to get ugly with buying studios, Sony wouldn't be able to counter them.
I mean BG was a very wealthy person for a reason and there is also a reason why Gabe was able to start Valve.

And without the PS3 Sony would have gone bankrupt.

Yeah that's something that console warrior often forget. Microsoft (and Google) are far bigger companie than Sony.
Can you imagine the utter chaos if MS buys Sony:dmcblob:

dont do this tho, monopolies fucking suck
Imagine if Microsoft buys Nintendo to penetrate Japan market.

Robot horse > horse.

In what capacity are these random events? I take it they're optional?
RDR2 excels in world building and immersion, Horizon in combat and unique robotic dinosaurs. Both have good a story.

That's a good point.

Do you ride often in Horizon?

I would still prefer a 3rd party publisher to acquire WB Games, but between Sony and MS it's definitely MS, plus, it's an access to tons of franchises MS would benefit from. And yes, if Phil was given a carte blanche from Nadella there's nothing Sony can do to stop him, MS can outbid Sony on anything without breaking a sweat.

I've completed Horizon when it first came out on the PS4. Got 100% in it and unlocked all the trophies. It's a very enjoyable experience if you like/don't mind the usual modern open world game design trappings. However, I'd still rank Red Dead Redemption 2 over it. despite not playing it yet. Usually I'd refrain from recommending games I haven't played yet, but I've played the original Red Dead and found it to be one of, if not the, best open world games I've ever played. If the second Red Dead is just as good as its predecessor, let alone better, then I'd easily recommend it over Horizon. Though I must admit for transparency sake that I'm a sucker for the atmosphere in movies and games set in the old wild west 😛
Do you ride often in Horizon?
Almost all the time!

That's a hard question and the answers depends on personal preference.

I'd say Arthurs personal story in RDR2 is more interesting than Aloys in HZD. The world in RDR2 is bigger, better looking, more open, there is more to do, there are better side stories in RDR2. The game is in love with details and loves wasting the players time with them. It's an exceptionally long game.

HZD has the better combat, more interesting world setting and one of the best sci-fi game stories out there. I'm differentiating between Aloys personal story and the world story. Alloys journey is a bit mundane. But if you are willing to hunt down and listen to audi logs, read files etc. you'll get an awesome sci fi ride. Every single piece of collectible paints a bit more detailed and darker picture. The mysteries why there are robot dinos is what elevated the game from okay to awesome for me. Once everything clicked, I had to put down the controller.

But if you already know, from spoilers or other sources: Go with RDR2 then.

I really hope all of you are going in blind into HZD, without knowing anything. Please take your time to watch and listen to the, sometimes lengthy holo videos, audio files etc.

For what it's worth, I've dabbled in Horizon on PS4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox, and Red Dead is boring. It's yet another po faced Rockstar game that loves the smell of its own farts. Plus its fetishism with realism in pointless ways makes the gameplay one helluva slog.

Horizon is just a scifi game that lets you ride robot dinosaurs and, while it has a lot of open world padding, is pretty fun.

I hope for MS, feels like they would do the best with it.

Yes and no.
While I like that Microsoft is taking notes from Sonys playbook and allow their studios to develop projects more freely. Microsoft games are still obsessed with "current trends" to have the biggest mass market appeal possible. Let's take Forza Horizon 4 or Gears Tactics as recent examples. Fine games at heart, but littered with (free) loot boxes, tiresome xp bars, spinning wheels, points, trivial level ups. It is getting annoying.
Say what you want about TLOU2, HZD, Bloodborne, Dad of War. Those games feel free from executive suit decisions, Microsoft games don't.
That said, even the worst Microsoft game is not as bad as WB's own Shadow of War. That thing is ridiculous.

I guess I signed up for the Steelseries newsletter back when they were giving out games. They just sent an email with the choice of a few indie puzzle games. I got two emails, so I was able to grab lit: bend the light and shapez.io. ¯\(ツ)/¯ I like free stuff.

I also like that Windows made pulling up emotes and weird anime shit easy (Win key + .) (⓿_⓿)

It breaks my heart to decide one of these two but I go with RDR2, HOWEVER, keep in mind is a slow paced game that goes from little to a lot.

HZD is more dynamic in that aspect, either way, both are amazing, but RDR2 has a special place in my heart.

Horizon burries RDR 2 in terms of story (its not even close), tightness, pacing and whatnot. Has an unique setting and when you play in very / ultra hard, the combat straight up destroys any open world game out there in such a magnitude that its impossible to describe. BUT, its also much more of an action rpg at the core so if you're more of someone who likes to explore a world to find secrets or cool vistas you might wanna skip it, cuz its pretty standard fare here (collectibles / logs), yet the writing and in particular Alloy's story / Zero Dawn are on their own a reason to buy it

RDR 2 has the better technical edge, has a dynamic event system and overall is pretty cool to run through and has a very rewarding sense of exploration with a lot of stuff to find and hilarious side quests. But honestly ? the combat really sucks. Its absolutely nothing special outside of the display of violence. Now I think that for curiosity's sake its still worth a run because the atmosphere is fantastic, the world is crammed with things happening to you / to see / to do but as an overall package its a letdown

RDR2 is the weird one , i have strong love hate relationship with that one. Especially when people hail it as second cuming of Jeebus ... which is definitely not.
The game looks amazing, has great atmosphere and really enjoyable story , but it just annys me left and right way too much. Yes the animations looks amazing , but for fucks sake just give me the skip button. Also absolutely despise some of its dreadfully limiting mission design .... cases where they said "hide behind the rock" and after 10 minutes hiding behind the rock you start to search for which friggin rock triggers the right animation/script" were making me scream in frustration

Still great 8/10 game , but from i played i just cant go higher ... its great expereince most of the tim but every now and then its just put nail in your brain and keeps hitting it and hitting it and hitting it ..... aaaaaah i am never finishing this
