So, looks like google is getting ready to kill the customer facing side of Stadia.
Or at least de-prioritising it.
When I briefly tried it, it worked well. A lot better than I thought it would. However I still think they maid a big mistake by not making it a PS+/Gamepass equivalent. Instead expecting you to purchase an even less tangible version of the game than a download.
Anyway one less company trying to fuck over the PC community by grabbing exclusivity deals is always good news.

I just learnt that the demo of Voice of Cards has different content from the main game. Interesting choice from SQEX. I should continue playing it.
GOG is cool. All else being equal I would go with the DRM free store of course. But it’s not equal:
- Only a fraction of all Steam games are available on GOG and I don’t want to split my library more than I have to.
- Keys from third party sellers and bundles are the typical way I buy games and they are almost always Steam keys.
- Steam has an advantage in features. For me the big one is Steam Input but this will differ from person to person.
- Reports that GOG games sometimes do not receive the latest version.
- I have no significant fear of losing access to my Steam games within my lifetime so DRM becomes more of a philosophical question. Worst case, I can simply crack most of my games.
Epic has sucked the air out of any Steam alternative. By "competing" with Steam with a lower cut they have completely decimated the non-Steam market as developers and publishers demand larger and larger concessions from GOG to release their games there. Coupled with their DRM-free mandate, and it means GOG just doesn't get the games Steam or even EGS gets, and as such it is finding itself fading into obscurity more and more.
Though it's not just that... their client sucks too. Doesn't help matters.
I know it's never been doing amazing sales prior to EGS, but upwards of 10 years ago people saw GOG as their secondary library or a place they'd buy the odd game here and there from, and that just isn't the case anymore.

For me GOG lost its primary use for me. I used it for retro games. It was always something to look forward too, the latest old games they have their library. DRM free was just a nice bonus for me.

Haha. I have no doubt my PC will run it though (mostly because Im still on 1080p). My GTX 1080 and 5820k 4 ghz oc'd has done well so far.
More than this, let's not forget they're stating the game will have raytracing via patch (at launch?) but 20 days from the release we have seen nothing of it.
I think either it was a mistake from the underpaid intern that wrote the store page or it'll be some fake raytracing like the one implemented in DMC5
Also, the game is cross-gen, which should help a lot even if it doesn't run well on last-gen.
Plus, I have no dobut that FromSoft and Bandai have a lot of focus on the PC version due to how big the PC audience is for Soulslikes.

Running a 1070 and I am hoping it will keep me going until the shortages stop.
Fortunately enough my forseeable future gaming is the likes of Lost Ark, FFXIV, Total Warhammer 3 and some Guild Wars 2 I think it should see me through. Outside of that most of my gaming is smaller indie games.
So hopefully this will keep me going for a while to come (release of the 40 series would be nice).

I guess if they're ordering equal parts 512, 256 and 64gb models and just siloing each and shipping on first in first get, then yes.
But they may be ordering fewer of certain models if they've sold less of them so that demand on the more popular models is met, to the point that the devices are shipping at the dates they gave us.
I'm basically expecting to stay in Q2 for my 256gb and I'll probably be at the latter end of Q2 too.

I have too many games on my list to play that II already bought, so only new game will be Elden Ring and Warhammer 3 for the neat future. Currently playing Avengers, then Ascent, Maneater, Outriders and Greedfall.
I will most likely not be able to finish most of those before Elden Ring and Warhammer 3, which both will take a massive amount of time from mee. But after those are done, Im looking into a bunch of other smaller games I really wanna play, like Happy Game, Webbed, Maid of Sker, The Messenger, Huntdown, Exo One. Thanks to the latest update, the BTB mode in Halo Infinite finally works properly again. Loading between matches is faster than ever so there are just loads of people playing the game. I feel a bit rusty but it's really great to be back.

I really don't care for reading specifications anymore as they are rarely specific enough to my needs. Got to at least list targeted resolution and framerate and many still don't even do that. If I'm really unsure I look for vids on a similar spec to my own. I'm pretty certain I'll be fine with Elden Ring anyway, I got Dark Souls 3 working on much worse than what I'm using now.
I still do most of my gaming on a 1080p 75Hz monitor that I'm sure certain enthusiasts would write off as garbage these days, but in any game if I can just get above the freesync threshold on that I'm happy.

In certain circles it is, noticed the sentiment recently when looking for deals for a separate monitor not even intended for gaming. Found it annoying to parse impressions as you have to filter out the go hard or go home crowd.
I'm happy with my 1080p monitor anyway. I do have a 4K TV that for a little while I used to hook up to the PC. However I ended up feeling the difference wasn't worth snaking a cable through a room as well as basically hogging two screens and went back to just using the monitor all the time.
I only have 1080p displays, but I'll use DSR to run games at 4K, giving me nice super sampling.
I do plan on going 4K when 4K is basically considered a minimum resolution UI wise, and when 4K 60fps+ max details is an expected 'minimum' level of performance on a very good gaming PC.

1080p is fine, though personally I prefer 1440p nowadays. I think 4k is a waste of rendering power, so 1440p is a nice middleground.

I do really hate how Nvidia arbitrarily decided they invented GPUs by completely arbitrary criteria and how so many in the media just went along with it. Where do you draw the line? I'd say they are absolutely incorrect in saying this, and I hate this sort of marketing BS disinformation.
The NES had a 'GPU' in that it had a chip that was related to video output (the PPU). Anyone that isn't a dumbass can tell that's a 'GPU'. If the chip outputs an analog signal directly it's a DAC. Anything else is a GPU.
Big tech companies sure like to big up their place in history. Its pretty laughable really as many of us were actually there at the time.
Apple try to do the same thing, especially with their really early history. Pretending that all the first hardware shows were all about them and that the early magazine and newsletter coverage was wall to wall Apple. Narrator "It wasn't"

Yeah, I have no interest in upgrading my resolution anytime soon. I love my 1080p gsync/freesync monitor and if it breaks down next week, I will buy the same one.
About the resolution talk: These days I'm using 1440p at 27' and happy with it. Good for work and doesn't push the GPU to hard. If/when DLSS or something like it becomes the standard, I will probably switch to 4k, as at my current resolution I find the results to be somewhat mixed.
But in the end, use the resolution you are comfortable with it, and if it gives you more GPU headroom, all the better.

The worst thing is, by Nvidia's own definition of a graphics processing unit, which is:

... which I just did 30 minutes ago, on Heroic. Jesus, I came so close on multiple occasions to spiking the controller into the floor - some of that late game encounter design was pure BS. The inherent randomness in Halo's encounter design + the advanced movement mechanics youre basically required to use don't mix well with an extremely small margin for error.

Yeah I bought a 27 inch 1080p monitor some years ago and instantly regretted it.
Not unless you only define yourself by your resolution. I only upped to a 1440p because i needed a second monitor for work and it met every other criteria i set and was a better price at the time. I still use my 1080p monitor with no issues
Id rather 1080 and max out everything with a solid framerate than up my res and have to turn things down to keep solid fps.

The real move is to have 2 monitors one at 1440p and one at 1080p. This lets you live in both worlds.

Unless it's confirmed to be fixed if you are thinking of running Dual Monitors under Windows make sure their refresh rates are the same or divisible e.g. 120 & 60 or 144 and 72. There was a long-standing DWM issue which would cause stuttering if monitor refresh rates weren't divisible but i'm sure i read it was fixed. I'd double check first though in case my memory is faulty.

I haven't finished it yet (hence why I'm putting my thoughts here and not the review thread) but I imagine my impressions won't change at this point; playing Guardians of the Galaxy and I've a very positive but nevertheless mixed feeling.
On the one hand it's basically a Marvel take on the Uncharted formula of cinematic 3rd person action adventure, I think a lot of reviews out there were overselling it as something it's not.
My only impression of GotG before this game is the MCU movies, but I'm sure many others are the same, and with that said I think it's a really good adaptation.
Gamora and Star-Lord are different but still enjoyable in their own ways (I think I actually prefer this Gamora!), whereas Drax, Groot and Rocket are pitch perfect impersonations to their movie counterparts and the team dynamics that come with it.
I think the reason the game is getting such aplomb is simply that it's a really good GotG adventure, the story is the main appeal here; it's a good comic book/tv series style story and if you're a fan of the characters then it's worth a play for this.
That said, I can't get it out of my head at this point (I'm at chapter 13) that the game, given it's surprisingly lengthy, is quite repetitive.
It's mostly either exploring environments in a pseudo Uncharted kind of fashion, which is all fairly inconsequential really. Or it's the combat, which while satisfactory, and there are plenty of options to play with, every encounter plays out basically the same, which over a game that's pushing the 15-20 hrs mark is just too much.
I think game needs to be either shorter or the combat had to be ultimately more complex. That said it's still wroth a playthrough for the story as its really strong.
